Cable for ipod - HELP!!!

I was looking at purchasing the XtremeMac Auxiliary Audio Cable for iPod and I just want to be clear that I am understanding the description correctly. Do you plug the cable into your ipod (where the headphones go) and also into your stereo (also where the headphones go) so it plays from your stereo speakers? I would appreciate an answer soon since I am considering buying this in time for Christmas. Thanks.

I don't think that is right. You need an audio in jack on the stereo. A headphone jack would be audio out. I haven't seen a car stereo with a headphone jack. I have seen an auxilary jack on some - for use with mp3 players.

  • Is there a usb 3.0 cable for iPods?

I was wondering if there are USB 3.0 cables for iPods. Any feedback would be great

No. Apple only sells one cable for the iDevices.
The iDevices will work with a USB port but it will be not faster than a USB 2 port.

  • Telephone # for iPod help

Can somebody tell me the number to call to ask for iPod help?
    thanks

    Hi Drummer,
    You can contact Apple here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
If you purchased your iPod recently (within 90 days, I believe) you get 1 complementary tech support call. After that, it's an arm and a leg ($60).
    Good luck,

  • 30-pin to RCA cable for iPod Touch??

Are there any cables out there than connect to the iPod Touch 30 pin port, to RCA (left right audio). I would like to connect the iPod to my home stereo system without using a cradle or to my car aux input (making a custom-built kit) so I really need a high-quality cable only (not from the headphone jack). I see some for older ipods, but for Ipod touch??
    Please help!!

I believe you are talking this type of cable

I have not tried yet myself, but as a hardware issue - it should work for iTouch, bear in mind, both iPod and iTouch works on my iPod HiFi (via dock). Unless the software is not compatible .... e.g. iTouch is not working on my car stereo via dock.

  • Great tip! A / V cable for iPod

Just passing along a tip I got today from a friend. I have been looking for the cable to be able to get my iPod movies on my TV. There are a few cables out there, and they look like standard mini jack to Red/White/Yellow RCA. Well the ones for iPod specifically will work fine, but are about 20-40 bucks, depending on where you look. Apple sells it for 29.00
Well, here is a little trick and a mean swap that Apple did. If you use a standard Cam Corder A/V cable, that has the same Red/White/Yellow RCA plugs , it wont work if you use the colors to the right jacks
BUT! If you swap the Yellow Video CAble for the Red Audio one, it works like a charm! I used my Cam Corder cable, did the swap, and had iPod on my 60" Big Screen. And that cable is black too, just like my iPod
Just thought Id pass this along..

oh ok , sorry for the dupe, I am sorta new to all of this.
I did try to search and could not find any info on it..
Thanks for indulging , yet another video newbie

If you have had your iDevice for under 1 year, then yes your covered by your warranty which will fix/replace anything for free.
They will fix or replace anything that's considered a manufacturer's defect. They will not replace things that are damaged.

  • Convert Selection for Ipod help

Having just updated to the latest version of iTunes 6.0.2 for the Mac I have been attempting to the Convert Selection for iPod menu selection for video podcasts that have not already sync'd up. I have successfully converted 1 video podcast and loaded it on my iPod 5G, but have also tried unsuccessfully to the same with 4 or 5 others. When I do Get Info on the converted files it does show the .m4v file extension and when I run the video podcasts from within iTunes, it looks like it is the right size.
Has anyone else seen this and can offer a resolution?
    G4 Dual 1G (QuickSilver 2002)   Mac OS X (10.4)

I think I was able to resolve this myself after some trial and error. It looks like it is all in the name of the file. I've gotten some files to transfer after going into the Get Info section and updating the name (usually shorten the name or take out non-letter/number/# characters and then get the filename on disk to match.

  • What usb cable for ipod touch 4th g 64gb?

I got a used iPod touch 64gb 4th generation, but no charging cable. I assume that a charger for a classic iPod video 64gb wouldn't fit, but which cable would be the right one?
There is one for sale, called a "Sync Data USB Cable+Home+DC Car Charger For Apple iPod Touch 4G 4th Gen 8GB/64GB". It seems as if this would be the right item or am I missing something? This is a generic item. Should I do that?
    Thanks!
    Mildred.

This one "Sync Data USB Cable+Home+DC Car Charger For Apple iPod Touch 4G 4th Gen 8GB/64GB". should be fine.
The charger for a classic iPod video 64gb may not work since early iPod chargers used FireWire charging (12 volts) vice USB (5 volts) for charging.

  • USB cable for iPod Touch

Can I use the older style USB connection cables (the ones with the buttons you squeeze to disconnect) with my new iPod touch? I don't want to damage it, but I have several of these older cables and it is nice to have one at the office and one at home without having to move them around.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the Forums!
Yes, they work fine. I have some from old iPods (including FireWire cables), and from Griffin power accessories, with the push buttons, I use them all with my IPT (depending on where I am).
    Hope this helps...

  • Is the "Apple Composite AV Cable" for Ipod touch a charger or power adapter

What I mean is that if it's plugged in all the time while playing it (on my stereo), is the battery being used (charger) anyway or is it directly getting the power from the power adapter therefore not using the battery therefore not using/draining the battery cycle (as a battery as a limited number of cycles in it's life). Perhaps it's not a charger/adapter thing but a Ipod Touch conception thing. If I use 24h a day the adapter, am I using the battery cycle or not? Who can answer me this for sure (Apple?)?
Also on a similar note, can I connect the Ipod touch on another PC to charge it (through the dock/USB cable) but without synching it (I know only one PC can synch but if I want to recharge the Ipod at my girlfriend's place on her PC without Itunes can I?)

Anyone else has an idea on the issue of if the Ipod touch uses the power adapter/charger as direct source of power and not through the battery? If the battery is now fully charged and the Ipod is playing (and plugged in) is only the adapter working or is also the battery?
remember the good old days when electronics could work with the adapter or the batteries of the time (non-lithium). If you didn't have a battery in it would work. Even if you did have a battery in, the adapter would be the source. I currently have a 20g Iriver and it displays a "plug" symbol when plugged in and playing and not the battery symbol which lets me to believe the battery is not being used.
I am concerned that if a lithium battery as lifetime of 500 cycles for example, and I use 5 hours a day the player (plugged in all the time) that 1 cycle will be done within 5 days even though I wasn't actually away from the power outlet. Of course I will use my Touch often away as well but overall by using 2h a day away and 3h a day plugged in, if it's the battery working all the time, my battery lifetime will be decreased by a lot.
Any ideas? Any way to ask Apple officially? email address? form they will respond to?

  • Ripping DVD's ready for iPod - Help Needed!!

    Hi All
I have been using Handbrake to rip my DVD's and for some reason it has stopped working now..
It goes through the process of encoding the files, all the settings are correct and I have noted the saved directory (even changed it a couple of times), and when it completes 100% there is no file to be found anywhere......
I have posted a note on the handbrake forum but got no reply yet.
Does anybody know what the problem may be?
Also, does anybody know of an application that will rip DVD's so that they are iPod ready, or maybe into MPG/MPEG/AVi format.
    Many thanks
    Garry

How long do you wait? Once conversion has completed, the YourFileName.temp file must be rewritten to your desitination location. This can take some seconds, depending on the size of your movie. While we're at it, is the temporary file even being created when conversion begins?
Also, does anybody know of an application that will rip DVD's so that they are iPod ready, or maybe into MPG/MPEG/AVi format.
Ripping/extraction of DVDs can be done by a number of Mac compatible appliations. MacTheRipper (free) is probably one the most popular at the moment. Stripping and/or conversion, however, still requires an ancillary application like MPEG2 Works 4 Advanced ($$) or MPEG StreamClip (free). However, since your were less than specific as to type (stream file, elementary streams, VCD compatible, SVCD compatible, DVD compatible, etc.) of target file desired, I can only generalize. Conversion basically depends on the workflow you utilize. Both applications have some "intrinsic" capabilities but, for the most part, rely on QT, QT Tools, and/or QT components you have installed and available. In addition, both application allow output to what is basically the QT Pro "Movie to QuickTime" export option. This simply means that in addition to the specific formats you mentioned, you also have full access to all of the same target QT formats you could normally access directly from your QT Pro application. (I.e., you can go directly from a VOB file or file segment to any available QT compatible compression format based on QT Pro and installed QT Pro components.)
REMINDER: These alternative compression formats are not iPod compatible.
ADDED: Forty-TwoDVD-VXPlus ($$) will convert ripped/extracted DVD directly to iPod compatible formats.

Where are the videos from? are they from a creditable source or from an illegal downloading site such as limewire. most of those videos are not in the correct video format to begin with so apple itunes will not recognize them and convert them. The best way to convert video is to rip your own dvds or home movies and put them on your computer then ipod. There is at least one way on each operating system (windows and mac) to rip your own dvds and then transfer them to itunes and finally put them on your ipod. A mac is the easiest of the two ways. If you have a mac, then you download a program off of the web called handbrake. Simply "google" >handbrake rip dvds< and its homepage should pop up or try <a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://handbrake.m0k.org). Handbrake allows you to copy and convert your dvds to ipod format. On a windows operating system the most effective way I have found to rip my dvds is quicktime pro($25-$35). You can buy it at quicktime's website. It basically does the same thing as handbrake. I, myself, have simply converted some videos, like sports shows and commercials, to ipod format using itunes and both the video and audio worked fine.
