Cable for macbook to tv

Can somebody please tell me if the Belkin Y Adaptor Cable (http://tinyurl.com/2uzpnb) as sold on the Apple site is the correct cable for connecting the sound for our Macbook to the tv? It's listed as Mfr. Part No.: F8Z180-07-GLD.
If not, does Apple sell what we need?
Thanks!
susan

Most modern TV's have RCA plugs for sound. Are you just using it for audio or will you be connecting it to use with video also? If your using it with video be sure the audio in ports you hook to correspond to the Video in you're using.
To be sure just check the manual that came with your TV. It will tell you which audio ports go with which video ports.

  • HT4241 HDMI cables for Macbook 13" duo core 2006

    Hi,
Firstly apologies if this question has been previously answered.  However I have been trawlling the internet for ages trying to find out the correct cables to set up a macbook to an HD tv.  All I want to do is connect two devices but everything I read seems to be about macbook pro 2009 onwards - what about those of us you have older macs?
Sometime ago I was given as a present an iwires mini display to hdmi cable set.  On the box it said suitable for Macbook pre 2010.  My Macbook is a 13" duo core 2006 . Anyway the cable didn't fit and because the package had been opened couldn't get a refund.
Please can anyone in simple terms tell me which HDMI cables I need to connect to the tv so that I get both audio and video.
    many thanks.

The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody have a Mini DisplayPort. The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports. Each would take a different adapter to connect with the TV.
You'll need a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter and a cable from that to your TV. Here's the various types of Mini-DVI adapters on Amazon.com  http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_2_16?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keyword s=mini+dvi+to+hdmi+adapter&sprefix=mini+dvi+to+hdmi%2Caps%2C264
You'll also need audio cables to the TV using a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio. You attach it from the headphone jack of your MacBook to the appropriate audio input plugs on your TV.
If you connect the MacBook using a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo system for audio if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio with the HDMI plug. The Mini-DVI to HDMI doesn't carry audio and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI. Check your TV manual though to see if it might have audio plugs that work with one of the HDMI ports.

  • HT1338 Power cable for Macbook not working / Apple Care discount?

My power cable for my Macbook stopped working. I went to the bookstore at my school and at first they told me I could get a discount on a new one ($29 instead of $79) because I have Apple Care. Then they told me that was a mistake and I have to pay full price even though I have Apple Care... True/false????

It appears your Macbook is at least 2 years old. If you have the extended warranty and there is no physicla damage to your power adapter, then you "might" be eligible for a free replacement.
Have you tried replacing the duckhead adapter yet? That's the part that normally fails first.

  • Connecting cables For MacBook  to a VGA

What connecting cables can I buy to connect my MacBook with a (I guess) standard size DVI to a VGA standard? All I can find are Mini-DVI (which I don't have on my MacBook) to VGA. Help!!!

Here is exactly what both of my MacBooks say and in the post after yours, there are two pictures of DVIs, the top one being the original, bottom the Mini-DVI... BOTH of my MacBooks have the ORIGINAL larger DVIs....THAT is my problem, I cannot find an adapter that will take me from the ORIGINAL DVI to a Standard VGA.... Incidently, I bought both of these at different times, different places so would assume MY issue would not be isolated. Past the occasional need to have a larger display, I love these machines and really don't like being forced into buying different machines to satisify my viewing needs. Thanks for you time, attention and suggestions, they are ALL appreciated! - Doc57

  • Which FireWire Cable for Macbook Pro to Macbook Pro Migration Assistant?

    Hi,
I've just purchased a new Macbook Pro 15" (standard - not retina display) and am planning to transfer my files via the Migration Assistant. My question is, I currently have a mid 2009 macbook pro (2.8GHz, 4GB) and was wondering which firewire cable I need to purchase - there are so many different types!
    Thanks!

Hold T and boot the old Mac's drive to the desktop of the new one or do so during Setup Assistant or later with Migration Assistant.
Setup Assistant runs only once, at first startup when fresh out of the box or when freshly reinstalled from scratch. Migration Assistant is a regular application found in the Utilites folder.
If you're going to move all your stuff over, the easiest and least problematic way is via Setup Assistant. Since the computer is in a completely blank state when SA runs, it can create identical user accounts, permissions, etc., as the original source. MA is an app that runs on an already configured and running system and, hence, can't duplicate user accounts, modify permissions that are already in use, etc.: this can cause vexing issues for new users that may not be to well versed in multiuser operating system administration.

  • Alternative to the firewire cable for macbooks

I was wondering if there was some sort of alternative to firewire for uploading film footage? My macbook does not have a port to plug in firewire. I know that USB can be used instead but that this can lower the quality. Is there another way that you can upload footage without lowering the quality but using a usb cable?

    I was quoted...? that's a first.
Anyway, the transfer protocol isn't what determines video quality, it's the camera. The new video cameras that use USB are not true DV as they use a compression algorithm. Comparing compressed video to DV is much like comparing a CD quality audio file (44.1kHz 16-bit) to it's mp3 counterpart. Acceptable? For most consumers the answer is probably yes. However, the video degrades quickly if you have to change file formats or compress it more for a smaller file size. The compressed format is why the new camers can use SD type memory cards instead of digital tape.
It's probably true that USB2.0 couldn't keep up with the amount of data a DV stream
When transferring many small files, USB 2.0 is as fast if not faster than Firewire 400, when transferring several files over 30MB(approx) Firewire 400 is faster. Files do not have to be broken up into packets and reassembled on the other end.

  • Cable for MacBook Pro and old lacie hardrive

    Hello
I have just upgraded to a MacBook Pro after using a G4 Powerbook since 2004. I had also for the same time used a Lacie 160gb hardrive as back-up. And i guess you know what is coming next. The lead from the Lacie will not fit into the MacBook. I had a quick look at the cables at Apple Shop but it all just looked like a blur to this old fellow. Can someone point me in the right direction please.
    Thank You

You need a FireWire 400 (6-pin) to FireWire 800 (9-pin) cable or adapter:

  • HT201343 I need to get external connection cables for macbook air to imac - is this just a thunderbolt to standard usb?

My screen is busted and i need to backup information/ upgrade system to icloud drive.
To do this, i need to use an imac display - can i connect this with the standard thunderbolt to usb cable?
I do not have apple tv, and may not work since i cant see the screen on laptop.
    Thanks,

You need to connect the Thunderbolt cable to a Thunderbolt port or Mini DisplayPort to use Target Display mode; the iMac model also needs to support video in. Click here for more information.
You need to connect the Thunderbolt cable to a Thunderbolt or FireWire port to use Target Disk mode. When in this mode, the computer can be treated as an external drive.
If the connection involves USB at any point, it won't accomplish anything.
