Cable light not coming on and not charging.  Outlet working

I plugged in my charging cable as usual and light did not come on.  Outlet working.  Tried several times to get to "sit" correctly.  Yesterday I had problem with wi-fi.  I noticed there was a red light on one setting, something that began with "fire..."  I got wi-fi to work again.  Don't know if there is any connection to problem right now, but I am down to about 7% power!

First make sure both male and female MagSafe connectors are perfectly clean and the gold pins on the cable end are all sticking out (see here, especially #7, click on the triangle to open: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1713 ). Then try to do an SMC reset: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If that doesn't solve the issue, the power brick may be bad and require replacement. Do you have access to another power brick to test and see that the charging circuits are ok on your Mac?

My MBA suddenly shut off and after charging, nothing works except the keyboard lights.   I charged it and it's been hours and no sound, fan, or power chime happens.  It also says it's fully charged.

same or similar have to keep trying to reboot- only happens after charging overnight.

  • Macbook charger-brand new, no light, not charging?

    Hello everyone,
Recently I was having problems with my MacBook charger not working. It was almost 4 years old, so I figured it was time to order a new one anyways. So I ordered a new one and received it today, and the charger is still not lighting up. The laptop is also not charging, however it does recognize it because it says "Not charging" where the battery would usually be indicated. Does anyone have any idea on what would be causing this? I'm thinking it might be the battery, but not 100% sure. Here is what my laptop is showing:

  • Flashing adapter led lights - not charging

Often (but not always) my charger flashes orange-green-orange-green etc, and the symbol in the toolbar tells me 'battery is not charging'. I had to replace my charger recently, but it was doing it with a spare that I was borrowing too. I hoped it was my battery, and have replaced that (needed a new one anyway) but it's doing it right now, having just put in the new battery.
It's usually when the computer is awake, but has done it a few times when it's sleeping (I don't turn my computer off much, so can't say what it does then).
Sometimes the screen dims too - the charger still glows, but the screen dims like it's operating off battery, and the symbol tells me it is. But this too is just a flicker.
Any idea? I've seen 'reset PMU' as an option, but I'm a bit worried - it says it will do something to my RAM...
I've just put in a new hard drive and new ram, with the hope that my computer will last me a long time, and really can't afford for this to be a hardware problem... It started just after getting the new hard drive.
    What can i do?

Hi. First and foremost you can't do any harm by resetting the PMU. The warning in reference to 'RAM Disk' in the instructions is virtually obsolete as RAM Disks were used by older OSs before OS X. The whole tone of the PMU page is, IMHO, overly cautious in relation to OS X.
Secondly you may find that resetting the PMU doesn't actually solve your problem. You mention that your problem only started occurring after replacing the HD. That sounds to me as though there may be a dodgy connection at the DC-in board or that there is a fault on the DC-in board. If you did the HD replacement yourself I would reopen the iBook and check the connection to the Logic Board and ensure that its cable is routed as it should be. If you had the work done elsewhere return it with a description of the problem and let them sort it under warrantee. Worst case scenario is that you need a new DC-in board. They aren't that expensive and it would be worth doing considering that you have already upgraded the RAM and got a new HD & battery.
    Good luck,
    Adrian

  • MacBook Pro will not charge, only works when plugged in.

My MacBook Pro says it is at 68% battery not charging but the source is coming from the power adapter. It hasnt gone down for the past day or so. Also it only works when it's plugged in and shuts down immediately when the charger is unplugged. I just bought a replacent cord and this started happening. Does anybody have a fix for this? Also if anyone lives in Auckland(NZ) where is the apple store or do you know any other stores in auckland that can get a charger from that are apple certified
    Thanks

The cable carries the same warranty as the device with which it came.  Bring it to Apple.  If  a hardware defect is noted (and not misuse) then the cable will be replaced.

  • 4 week old Iphone shut down and wont charge or work in any fashion.

My new iphone  (4 weeks old) shut down today and will not work in any fashion. Will not charge, is not recognized by computer when plugged into the usb port. It is an expensive paper weight. I have looked at the apple website and tried all their trouble shooting suggestions.

try the force restore option, its perfect for your situation
try force restore in the following way
    1) make sure the phone is off
    2) Open iTunes on your computer
    3) press the home button and keep pressing it and at the same time connect the handset

  • Lightening cables are not charging brand new iphone

Apple store replaced the phone I got on June 26 yesterday because the phone would randomly reset and then would not come back on.
Today neither one of the lightening cables I used with the previous phone (one came with the phone, one purchased the same day at Best Buy) will charge the phone.  Any fixes for this?

I should add, I get a message that says the cable "is drawing too much power" when I use my mac at home to sync/charge, and a "USB over notice" on my work PC.  If I plug into an adapter absolutely nothing happens.

  • When I copy and paste a link into the body of my email, the link won't light up in blue and underline becoming a working link. I do not have this problem with Explorer. Who do I get the link to work?

Not sure what more I need to say. If you still don't understand, let me know.

In Rich Text mode, there's an "Add a link" button (an Earth with two chain links in front of it) in the toolbar, which opens a window where you can type a web address. Yahoo! Mail then inserts it into your email as a link.

  • I have an iPhone 4, and my charger only works half of the time and is bulged by the actual plug I'm spot. Will AppleCare cover this? If not what should I do?

Can someone please tell me what I need to do to use my AppleCare to replace my charger? And if I don't have my AppleCare info but have the email from when I activated it, is that all I need?

take it to an Apple Store genius bar ,let them decide the options

  • Battery will not charge, but works fine on ac.

I tried resetting the pmu, and using different ac adapters, but to no avail, sometimes the light on the power supply changes to amber, but the charge on the battery remains zero, any tips? (I press the button on the battery without the ac adapter and it flashes on the first green on the first LED for a few seconds and cuts out over)

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
When there are battery issues, typically one of three parts has an issue: the power adapter, the battery itself, or the logic board.
You can test your logic board using the OS X install DVD that came with your system (it will say in small print AHT Version x.x on it). Insert it, reboot holding the option key down, choose Apple hardware test, and follow directions.
How many charge/discharge cycles does the battery have on it? You can find this in the Tiger system profiler (click blue apple, about this mac, more info, power, battery information). Apple says a properly maintained battery should retain 80% of it's charge after 300 cycles. The Apple note on battery maintenance is http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
Although different ac adapters didn't fix the problem, I'd assume they were working on other systems, so you've eliminated that as a cause.

  • MacBook Pro 2007 battery not recognized, not charging but working

I recently bought a new battery for my MacBook Pro 2007. As said in the title, it seems to work alright, but it's not recognized by the computer (X in the battery icon), and I don't think it's charging.
I tried to reset the SMC, no change. Unfortunately, I don't have any other computer to test my battery and my powercord on, to see if it's coming from either one of them. And I don't have an Apple Store around.
Do you have any suggestions ?

  • DVI to RGB  cable does not seem to work

When I connect my MBP to my HDTV via a DVI to HMDMI converter cable I get excellent, razor sharp images. However when I connect using a DVI to RGB cable all I get is garbled signals. Any ideas on what I should be doing different? Thanks in advance!

  • Classic iPod not charging; only works when plugged in

My iPod Classic would work only when plugged in my computer or to the wall. I noticed that when I plug it, the battery automatically turns green and the fully-charged symbol appear. However, when I unplug it, it doesn't work. Any ideas on what I can do? It's no longer under gaurantee so anything that I can do at home would be helpful. Thank you xx

Seems very unlikely you need a new Macbook since it works when "plugged in"; at worst you will have to spring for a new battery.
Try running this program - it will give you info about the state of the battery:
