Cable needed to transfer video to Mac?

Hi all,
In a few days I am purchasing a Macbook which (among MANY other things), I will be using to occasionally edit homemade video(nothing hardcore, just the general, 'cut this part', 'add music to this part' and so on). I just need to know what kind of cable I need that goes from the Digital Video Camera to my Macbook. Thanks!
-Jordan

I've got a Panasonic PV- GS15 MiniDV camcorder. It has a mini USB slot and a slot with 4 pins and written above it is i.DV. Should this camcorder work? I am planning on purchasing this cable if the camera is in fact compatible.

  • Cable needed to output video to TV

I'm a complete neophyte, when it comes to using my computer to watch video in my TV. I have a MacBook, model identifier 5,2. What cables would I need to transfer video from the Mac to a TV with HDMI connectors. Can it be done?

You will need an adaptor from your video port to HDME if your TV has HDMI ports. Your model has a mini-DVI port so you need an adaptor to go from mini-DVI to HDMI. Check the Apple Online store. Griffen has a multi-use adaptor that may work. If not check adaptors from Kanex(.com).

  • Buying a 2010 macbook...what cable do I need to transfer video from my cannon mini dv camcorder?

    Hi
I'm confused as to which cable I would need if I want to transfer video from my camcorder to macbook?
    Please help???

The only input plugs on the 2010 are USB. If you want FireWire you need to get a MacBook Pro.

  • Any other ways to transfer video to mac?

  • I need to transfer video from a camcorder to my iMac what cables needed?

I have an old Canon Optura 300. I just realized that it still has a tape in it with important memories I would like to preserve. I suppose I could get a disk made, but I would rather do the transfer to my imac myself and have the "tools" needed. According to the Canon tech I spoke with, I need a DV IEEE1394 4-pin cable. But since that's a firewire cable I will also need a converter in order to use it with my iMac. Does getting the "Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire" adapter make sense and is it the right way to go in order to transfer the video onto my computer? Do I need anything else to complete this transfer?
Just checking—I know there's no better place to go for my answer than this site.  Thanks, Joan (still OS X 10.8.5 for now)

OK, so that part is correct. Then, do I just hookup and it automatically goes onto my computer? What will capture it, or will it simply show on my desktop and I need to open it with...what?

  • I need to transfer video from a Sony DCR-TRV530 to iMovie11.

I have successfully transfered my Sony-produced video tape to my older iMac, but now that I have changed to a new iMac with OS 10.8.3, I can no longer do the transfer. Apple's guidance has not helped. What do I do now?

This camera works with Macs. All DV format cameras work, but Apple does not list them individually.
It depends which new Mac you have. You need a Firewire Port. Newer Macs would have Firewire 800. However, the very newest Macs do not have Firewire, but have Thunderbolt instead. For these you need a Firewire cable plus a Firewire to Thunderbolt Adapter.
So, if you Mac has Firewire, you need a 4 pin to 9 pin cable like this.

If your Mac has only Thunderbolt, you need the 4 pin to 9 pin cable mentioned above PLUS an Apple Firewire to Thunderbolt Adapter.

  • What do I need to transfer video and audio from my 2009 Macbook to my television?

I want to watch a movie with my family tonight, but the DVD is broken. I was planning on renting the movie online and transferring the video and audio from my Macbook to the television. What cables will I need to accomplish this? Also, does anyone know, were I to use a Windows instead, would transferring the audio be simpler? (And what would I need to do that?)

Try doing it without a cable!
    Use AirDrop, described here:

UPDATE - Oh, sorry, I see the article points out the MacBook is too old for AirDrop.

  • Need to transfer videos from ipod to pc

Hey guys, I just bought a second hand 5th gen 30gb iPod and I want to keep the videos that are on it now on it. I want to transfer them to my computer incase I need to do a hard reset and lose everything.
Also, how do I delete some of the videos off of my ipod and keep some? Sorry I am a new user. Also there is not enough room on my harddrive to put all the videos on the computer
Thanks in advance for any help.

Oh just wanted to add, I know there are many programs that transfer the music from the ipod to the pc but i can`t seem to find one that will do the videos.
I also checked the Knowledge base and didn`t find any ways that would do it without me having to be at the computer for hours. I am not being lazy and not looking, I just am having no luck.
Oh, and if I find one I will post it here too. Thanks again

  • Hi - I have just bought my first IPAD and I need to transfer from my MAC a 'recipe file' consisting of many, doc and docx files - I have also just bought Keynote to do this but I can't seem to transfer,, does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Hi - I have just bought my first IPAD [3 rd gen, no wifi] and one of the things I want it to do is to accept transfered word files
preferably as folders from my MAC - I just bought Keynote but it doesn't seem to work. My files are all doc and docx so I think
perhaps looking into it more I should have bought Pages instead,, but I don't want to spend more money on another app if
possible. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • Transfer videos to Mac

What is the best way to get my videos shot with my VIXIA camera onto my MacBook Pro?

"the software transfers?" do you mean that using the canon software you can transfer the files? If so, than the original question by the original contributor has been answered. If you are asking a new question on what to do with the files, you can "import" from the camera directly into iMovie without making duplicate files or you can "move" or "copy" the files. If you are going to use something else that costs more money like Premiere Elements you may also want to consider Final Cut in the app store or Avid. If your objective is just to get video files from a vixia camera to a MacBook than any one of these solutions will work. The "best" is what works for you and your budget.

On the iPad from the computer does not make sense. If you want to go from iPad to computer - connect the iPad, launch iTunes, right click the iPad name on the left under devices and select Transfer Purchases.
From the computer to the iPad .....
    Sync with iTunes.
Connect the iPad to the Mac and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Movies Tab on the right.
Click on all of the movies that you want to sync to the iPad.
Click on the Sync Movies Heading.
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes
