Cable Select and PowerBook 15

I have installed an new harddrive (Seagate Momentus 100Gb) in a PowerBook 15" 1.67 a few weeks ago.
The problem was that the machine take about 30 seconds to wake up and was not mounting by firewire.
I was about to going made, and at last, i find the problem, this 2.5" was in Cable Select Mode !
So, I left this message to hard drive installers, don't forget the jumpers, even in 2.5 ATA disks ! =)

Amateur problem, the IDE 2.5 was on Cable Select . Put it in master are fiiiiine =)

Shut down your computer and disconnect all peripherals (keyboard & mouse if pertinent) from your computer. Now reboot.
If the Mac starts up normally, shut it down again and then plug in one of the peripherals (keyboard or mouse first) and start up your computer again. If it does so successfully repeat the process, adding one peripheral at a time until your Mac acts up. At that point, disconnect the last peripheral you added, reboot your Mac and search the peripheral vendor's website for an updated driver.
If no driver exists or the problem remain after installing the new driver, try a different cable or a different port on your Mac.
If none of the above works, again disconnect all peripherals from your Mac, hold down the "shift" key to start up in "Safe Boot" mode.
If the Mac starts up correctly, restart without pressing the "shift" key.
If your computer still does not start up properly, shut it down and restart it while holding down the Apple+Option-P-R keys; keep holding "all 4 keys" down until you hear the startup sound "twice."
If none of the above work Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
Click Repair Disk.
(If Disk Utility cannot repair, you will need a stronger utility (3rd party) - Diskwarrior or Techtool PRO)
Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.
Remove any 3rd party ram.
Reinstall Leopard - This will install a "fresh" copy Leopard without archiving old system files but leaves the rest of your files in place.
If you still want to restore your computer to factory level...
Start up from your install disc, go to Disk Utility and select the disk and click erase - to securely erase data click Security Options and Erase Free Space which will entirely wipe your disk, overwriting it with zeros so that no data is recoverable.

A pc and powerbook sharing one 20' display

ok, this should be a piece of cake for somebody out there.
I have a pc laptop and a powerbook. i would like them to share my 20' cinema display.
how do i do it?
I think i need a dvi switch? if so, are there any particular brands i should be looking for?

ok,
so, i am going to respond to my own question here as far as what i have done.
so, can i share a pc and a powerbook on one 20in aluminum lcd display?
yes.
there are issues though.
most switches are for older crt displays not dvi so it cuts out 95% of the switches out there. (other problems may arise if the pc is older and cannot support dvi or it does do dvi but at a low resolution - ugh!)
naturally, the remaining switches are not inexpensive compared to their crt brethren ($250 + and NOT including cables that is another $100).
another issue is that switches have a port where you plug in a extra keyboard and a mouse. an extra keyboard and mouse MUST be used. you cannot use just a switch and continue to use the keyboard / mouse combo of the powerbook and pc.
expenses now for the switch, cables, keyboard and mouse.
regarding the extra keyboard and mouse. when you get them you know have a new set of problems because of the layout differences between a pc keyboard and a apple keyboard and the switch defaults to the pc settings. it can be worked around but it is a hastle. ugh!
my solution...
I bought a 1gb stick of ram for my powerbook bringing it up to 1.5 (which it needed anyway) and virtual pc. the total was for less than the switch itself and I got a more powerful mac out of it!
so, conclusion. if you want to do what i was thinking about... Don't. Get VPC and some extra ram instead.
yes, not everybody will be able to do the VPC route but it sure was a lot better than the alternative.

How to select and reactivate NIESRKW.SYS driver manually for the SCXI-1600 in Windows XP

I have problem's to select and reactivate SCXI-1600 driver in Windows XP SP2. First time when I installed Labview 8.5 and NIDAQmx 8.6 (
installed form the august 2007 media) so everything was fine and I made mesurements with my new SCXI based system.
Last week I removed SCXI-1600 USB Cable from my PC and then I plugged NI USB-6009 to the same port. Windows detected device
and I selected driver manually: \Windows\System32\DRVSTORE\niemxpS_9255CFE9C9DFD2A9A0DBE43093FD80D108D9EAEF\niemxpS.INF
Then I made some measurements fine.
Yesterday I removed USB-6009 and connected again SCXI-1600 back to the same port. Windows detected USB device fine but it can not locate driver for it.
I found NIESRKW.SYS driver from the \Windows\System32\drivers directory but where is INF-file? How to continue?
Looking forward someone help.

Help with PC and Powerbook G4 wireless printer sharing

Help! I have two PC desktops, one PC laptop and one Powerbook G4. I have a Linksys wireless router, a cable modem, and a D-Link print server. All of the computers, including the mac are on a working home network. The Three PCs work great with print server, but I can not get the mac set up with the print server. I have talked to Apple, network magic (which I use both for the PC and mac) and D-Link. Can you tell me how I can set this up.

I have a very similar problem. I have 4 pcs and a G5 hooked into my wireless router and cable modem. All of the computers are working however, I cannot see my G5 on the network. I do have a printer hooked directly to the G5, but want it to work on the PCs as well. I am assuming that I need to share the Mac with the rest of the network, however, I went to system preferences and I noticed that I do not have a sharing button at all on the list, I know that it is supposed to be under Internet & Network. I am brand new to the Mac world and have no idea of why it is not there. Is this something that I have to load from the software? Thanks for any help you may be able to share.

Got Cable DSL and the airport express won't transmit

Admittedly, I'm a novice. I had Verizon internet until yesterday. all was dandy and I hooked it up all on my lonesome.
Moved today and trying to hook up the Time Warner Cable/Internet and can't get the airport to work.
The service works because if I hook it directly into my computer's ethernet I get a connection. But even after running the application to set up my airport I can't get the computer to read the ethernet connection thorugh my airport extreme.
Couple of other wonky things: I can't seem to re-configure my airport because every time I try, after providing the correct password, it tells me there is an error in reading the configuration.
I have odne a hard reset by presisng the reset button for ten seconds.
I have turned off my firewall (I think) and have the internet sharing on.
Driving me crazy: seems the airport just won't transmit the signal.
Perhaps I need a DHCP address from the Provider? They told me I didn't.
Any suggestions.... please?

Since you have changed modems (DSL to Cable), make sure you do a completer power recycle of your network components...
Modem/Router Power ReCycling
- Power-off the Cable modem & AEBS. (Wait for at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
- Power-on the Cable modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
- Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
- Try connecting to the Internet. If still unsuccessful, continue...
Perform a "hard" reset of the AEBS.

Setup the AEBS for High-Speed Cable Service
Using the AirPort Admin Utility, connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the LAN port of the AEBS, and then, check these settings:
AirPort tab

- AirPort Network Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
- Create a closed network (unchecked)
- Wireless Security: Not enabled
- Channel: Automatic
- Mode: 802.11b/g Compatible

- Connect Using: Ethernet
- Configure: Using DHCP
- WAN Ethernet Port: Automatic
Network tab
- Distribute IP addresses (checked)
- Share a single IP address (using DHCP & NAT) (enabled)

HD master slave with cable select

Original HD was failing so I added another WD blue to computer to clone original HD. BIOS sees second HD but I cannot designate master and slave as cloning software says to. System does not see second HD. These are SATA HD. I am unsure if PC has cable select feature. Boot HD on end connector and second HD on next connector on cable. Please advise. Thanks

Hi there. What cloning software are you using? Because since one of your drives is WD, you can use Acronis True Image WD Edition where you can see each of your drives model and brand as long as both of them are recognized in BIOS. ADF 11g can not select and copy data from cell of readonly table in IE

hi,
In ADF 11g, when render view object as readonly table with Single RowsSelection, using IE browser can not select and copy data from the cell, but it work in firefox.
is it a bug?

What is the diffrence between "Key to Select" and "Selected Key" while creating Radio Buttons?

While creating radio buttons there is a confusion regarding two properties "Key to Select" and "Selected Key".Can anybody explain it with example?

Please find my explanation as below
Key to Select: This is the unique key for each radio button to identify which one is selected
Selected Key: This holds the "KEY" of selected radio button
Example:
   Let us say we have 2 radio buttons : Male & Female
     Create a context attribute SELECTED_KEY of type STRING.
     Create an action ON_SELECT for radio button select event
     Now,
     the properties for "MALE" radio button as below
          KEY_TO_SELECT = 'M'
          SELECTED_KEY = "bind to the context attribute SELECTED_KEY
          OnSelect = 'ON_SELECT'.
     The properties for 'Female" radio button as below
          KEY_TO_SELECT = 'F'
          SELECTED_KEY = "bind to the context attribute SELECTED_KEY
          OnSelect = 'ON_SELECT'.
If we select radio button 'Male', we get the key as 'M' and for 'Female' radio button 'F'.
check inside the event handler method ONACTIONON_SELECT, you get the 'KEY' of selected radio button.
So, the context attribute 'SELECTED_KEY' gets filled with the key of selected radio button

Partition Name in Select and Group-By

Is there a function that returns the partition name a row is stored in? I'd like to use it in a SELECT statement, if it exists.
The goal is to get row counts per partition to determine skew on a hash-based partition (otherwise, I'd just select and group-by the partition key). I want to do something like this:
SELECT PARTITION_NAME, COUNT(*) as PER_PART_COUNT
FROM SOMETABLE
GROUP BY PARTITION_NAME;Obviously, I would replace the string "*PARTITION_NAME*" with whatever function returns that value.
NOTE: Before the forum sharks jump all over me, I did search the documentation and forums, but I came up empty handed.

How do I set up Airport Extreme with cable modem and router?

Hi--
I'm having a house built and all of the wiring for TV, phone, and internet will be centralized in a closet. The cable modem can be placed there as well. In one room in the basement I want to use my Airport Extreme for my iMac and USB external hard drives. In another location of the basement, I'd like to set up a Time Capsule for another desktop and USB printer. If the cat5e comes out of the wall at each location, I "think" I need a router at the closet location. I also thought I might need an Airport Express upstairs on first or second floor to boost signal for my laptop. The house isn't that big so maybe that's overkill. So beyond the router question, do I want to set up a roaming network and have the Airport Express connected via ethernet or just wireless if the thought is that I need this? Finally, if I should connect cable modem to router to Airport Extreme, Time Capsule, etc., in what order and ports does the equipment get connected? Many thanks!!

Welcome to the discussions, Forum Girl!
It would be best to position the cable modem and main router in the central location like the closet if possible. The other devices would connect via ethernet to the wall jacks in each room.
If you could setup a "roaming" wireless network as you mention, this will give you better wireless performance and coverage. This is the way commercial establishments like airports, businesses, etc. are configured for wireless.
The order of connection would go something like this: ethernet connection > cable modem >main router>devices. Devices could be computers, routers, a backup device, etc. Since the Extreme has only 3 LAN ports for ethernet connections, you will also need to plan to install an "ethernet switch" near the location of the main router to provide enough ethernet jacks. If you are planning to use DirectTV, etc or your audio/video devices require ethernet connections (most new products do for updates and extra features), be sure to plan for that as well.
Make sure that CAT5e or CAT6 wiring is run so you will be able to take advantage of faster gigabit speeds.
Finally, it would be a good idea to work with an IT specialist to go over your plans to make sure all the bases are covered. This would be money well spent.

Not able to select and copy from adf table in IE and chrome if we enable row selection

Hi All,
We have an adf table and user wants to select and copy table cell values.
We enabled row selection on adf table. Ifrow selection is in place, IE and Chrome are not allowing user to select and copy data. But Firefox is allowing.
Do we have any solution to this? For our customer IE is the standard browser and they do test app on IE.

There are two ways that should work. When you are in the trash folder, you can swipe on the email in the list - left to right - and a red Delete button should pop up. Or you can select - Edit - at the top of the list of messages and then select the message and tap delete.
Not sure exactly how this works - but if you have restrictions enabled - especially since you let your grandchild use the device - that may be restricting what you can do in the mail app. Go to Settings>General>Restrictions. If you have it set to on - turn it off or see if you have mail restricted.

How to use AT LINE-SELECTION and AT USER-COMMAND in one report????

But as soon as I use SET PF-STATUS my AT LINE-SELECTION event stop workingand only AT USER-COMMAND is working.
How can I use both of them in one report for your reference I am giving my test program below.
