I have run into a keyboard problem on my Solaris 10 desktop. The keyboard is messed up. When I type root then it echoes as eiir. It is a Solaris 10 x86 system with PS/2 keyboard. The keyboard layout is US-English and type is generic 104 keys. The keyboard works fine in text mode but gets messed up as soon as the graphical login screen comes up.
The output for eeprom kbd-type is kbd-type=US-English(104-Key).
The output for kbd -l is

After reading the log in /var/dt/Xerrors more closely this time I found that it was trying to load module "Keyboard" for the device "Keyboard1" and was not able to find that module. • Solaris 10 x86 ipfilter aggr problem

    Hi, all.
    I have Solaris 10 x86 machine
    Kernel Patch: 142910-17
    IP patch: 143593-05
    The problem shortly:
I am using two network LACP interfaces
    aggr125030 contains e1000g1 interface
    aggr150031 contains e1000g2 interface
    Aggregation 31 was created by:
    dladm create-aggr -P L3 -l active -T short -d e1000g2 31
    and works fine.
If I add policy based routing rule:
pass out quick on aggr125030 to aggr150031:y.y.y.y proto tcp from x.x.x.x/32 to any port = 25 keep state
traffic matches the rule (it is observed through ipfstat -inohv command) but the rule doesn't work.
How did I decide? I have also ipnat rule
    map aggr150031 <skipped>
so if PBR works, the ipnat rule is working too.
If I remove the second aggregation interface aggr150031 and pass the physical interface explicitly, the rule works:
pass out quick on aggr125030 to e1000g2:y.y.y.y proto tcp from x.x.x.x/32 to any port = 25 keep state
as well as the ipnat's one.
x.x.x.x is IP address of e1000g2 interface (or aggr150031)
y.y.y.y is IP address of router for x.x.x.x IP address
It seems that PBR for Ipfilter doesn't support aggregation interfaces for outbound.
Also if you combine vlans 125 and 150 withing one LACP (aggr150031 is replaced by aggr150030 and one physical interface is used for both vlans trunking), the PBR rule doesn't work too.
    What shall I do?

The problem was caused by the ipfilter behavior - ignorance of interface alias. My ipnat rule was:
    map aggr150031:1 ...
    I have changed into:
    map aggr150031 ...
and the things began to work.
    Sorry for the noise.

  • Solaris patching on solaris 10 x86

just wondering if anyone can assist. i have just installed solaris 10 x86 recommended patches on a 16 disks server. where first 2 disks are mirrored called rpool, and remaining 14 disks are raid z called spool. upon installing the patches successfully and rebooting server, i am coming up with the following error:
NOTICE: Can not read the pool label from '/pci@0,0/pci8086,25f8@4/pci111d,801c@0/pci111d,801c@4/pci108e,286@0/disk@0,0:a /pci@0,0/pci8086,25f8@4/pci111d,801c@0/pci111d,801c@4/pci108e,286@0/disk@1,0:a'

    rebooting...
It looks like the solaris 10 os cannot find zfs filesystem and keeps on rebooting in normal solaris os mode, but when I go to safe mode and type: zfs list, I can see zfs rpool (mirrored) file system and cannot see the zfs spool (raid z) file system, any ideas on how i can fix the boot problem and get zfs spool back in the safest way possible?...

I finally figured it out. It seems that kernel patch 137138-09 was the culprit. It took me a while to test each kernel patch but I found out that if you have a mirrored volume or a virtual logical volume this will affect you. Also, after I did all this testing I finally found the sunsolve article referencing this patch. Seems you can install the patch, but you have to install 125556-01 first. Here's the article: http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-66-246206-1

  • Solaris 8 x86 patch cluster installation

hi. i recently installed solaris 8 x86 on my intel p4 machine. i got through the installation fine but i am now running into problems with installing the 8x86 recommended patch cluster.
whenever i run the install_cluster script, it says every patch failed to install due to return code 1. i even tried manually installing the patches manually via patchadd...but i end up getting a message saying the patch directory is not valid.
i basically downloaded the 8x86 recommended patch cluster zip file on a windows 2k machine. i unzip the file and then burn the patches onto a cd. i then copy the patches from the cd onto my solaris machine and try to install the patches that way. so far...this doesn't work..and i dont know what im doing wrong.
does anyone know how to fix this problem? thx.

hi again. i just fixed my problem. apparently when i unzipped the file and then burned it onto cd...the data got corrupted. i fixed it by copying the zip file onto cd and then extracting the patches onto the solaris machine.

  • Fresh solaris 10 x86 install patch update problems 119060-17 ...

Just yesterday, i installed a fresh Solaris 10 x86 onto some pc hardware. After getting solaris installed and issues with my network card, i downloaded and installed the free version of the update manager 1.0.x. Next, i proceeded to update all the general patches for the solaris 10 system. I started with the command 'pprosvc -i' from a terminal. It then proceeded to download and validate a bunch of patches successfully until it hit the following 3 patches:
    119060-17 ---- X11 6.6.2_x86: Xsun patch
    122213-10 ---- GNOME 2.6.0_x86: GNOME Desktop Patch
    122912-02 ---- SunOS 5.10_x86: Apache 1.3 Patch
All 3 failed some kind of validation and then crashed the pprosvc program, at which point it exited with the following error:
    122912-02 cannot be validated
    119060-17 cannot be validated
    122912-02 cannot be validated
Unexpected Failure: java.lang.Throwable: ERROR: Failed to validate the digital signature(s).
I also tried to use the GUI Update Manager to update, hoping the problem was isolated to pprosvc, but that problem was also in the GUI with a similar error message:
Error occurred...The detailed error message is: Unexpected Failure: java.lang.Throwable: ERROR: Failed to validate the digitial signature(s)
Anyone know why Sun's update patch process is so troublesome?
    Getting Tired of Solaris Updates...
I should mention that this is the free solaris 10 x86 install and i don't have a service contract with Sun. If this problem persists, i don't think i'll get one, as i see only further problems after buying one.
    tired and confused

    Hi,
    There is an issue with this that is currently being investigated. There is another thread that may shed some light on what is happening here;
    http://forum.sun.com/jive/forum.jspa?forumID=316
Thread title is : Sun UC, Digitally Signed Patches Using New Verisign Certificates
In the short-term please ensure that the patch mentioned in it is installed.
To quote part of mentioned thread above:
"Once the Sun Update Connection client software is upgraded with patch 121118-06 (SPARC) or 121119-06 (x86/x64) or later revisions normal behavior will resume. "
    If this fails to resolve your problem, would you be kind enough to post the output of the following command for analysis please;
    # showrev -p | egrep -e '121454|121119|120336|121082|121564|122232|119789'

  • VmWare, Solaris 10, x86, Patch 120536-05, video drivers

    Hello,
I have Solaris 10 x86 working under VmWare 5.x with JDS. I use the Xorg VmWare video driver with a resolution of 1280x1024.
Everything works fine as long I don't apply the patch 120536-05 (updated video drivers and fixes).
I mean the only reason I have for applying this patch is due to the "SUN Update Manager". It's the only one left. All the other patches are installed. I can work without the patch, it's only nice to have.
As soon it is installed I get no longer a console outside of the windowmanager login screen.
On the login screen I say "Command line". Then I have a blank Screen for about 1 minute. It flashes around 5 times in this minute and then I get back to the login screen.
I think it's a bug in the patch. Any idea?
    Cheers El_Sol

save a copy of the /etc/openwin/server/etc/OWconfig and or the /etc/X11/tX86config file it your have one, of running Xorg vs SUN X, then try running the kdmconfig -u and then the kdmconfig -v to reconfigure it.
Open a sunsolve support ticket the contract support for your issue if it is reproducable and you can profice any errors on for Solaris 10 x86 is resonable if you already do not have one even if your on a whitebox clone, it's worrth looking into!
http://www.sun.com/service/solaris10/index.jsp there is a feature that includes Interoperability Support for the $360

  • Last kernel patch for Solaris 10 x86 screwed up my kernel

    Hi,
The last kernel patch for Solaris 10 x86 (sorry I cant remember the patch id, but the revision is 30), available from Sun Update Manager screwed up my system.
The system is still booting but in maintenance mode: smf can't start because of repository corrupted. Given instructions to restore the repository does not work because / filesystem is mounted read-only...
As I am not a solaris expert, I will reinstall it from CD. I hope I won't loose the filesystem.
I was used to blindly trust Sun solaris patches, that was a mistake.
    Laurent.

i dont know why but still i do get default log in into the single mode
    after startup
    Requesting maintenance mode
(See /lib/svc/share/README for aditional information. )

  • Kernel patch update for solaris 10 x86

I have Solaris 10 06/06 installed on x86 machine which is using svm and clustered with another node. The kernel revision is 118855-19 from the uname -a output. I am looking for the kernel patch updation and I heard 118855-36 is the latest one. Shall I go ahead with this patch and what r the dependency patches for this.
If anyone done this please suggest and guide me..

For Solaris 10 x86 the latest offered with smpatch is 125101-07 and yes it may be recommended to patch. Then again you said clustered with sun cluster? You may want to check the documentation and if your machines aren't facing the internet you may wait for 7/07 to hit the street and do an upgrade.

  • "Short read error" after patching solaris 10 x86?

We recently bought an Ultra 20 with Solaris 10. The first thing we did was attempt to patch it with smpatch. Specifically, we did the following steps:
    > smpatch update
    > shutdown -i s -g 0
    > smpatch add -x idlist=/var/sadm/disallowed_patch_list
    > reboot
When the machine rebooted we got a "short read error" message when trying to load in various drivers and wouldn't boot. We assumed that the disk had crashed and we reinstalled solaris from the DVDs. After the reinstallation, we went to patch the machine again, with the same steps, and exactly the same thing happened!
So is there something wrong with patching solaris 10 on x86? Has anybody else experienced this problem where the patching corrupts the disks (or the drivers)?
    Thanks.
    Karl

There have always been "short read error"s during boot on <b>some</b> systems with Solaris 10 x86 since the release.
    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/solarisx86/message/29310
    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/solarisx86/message/29358
Do you get the error every time during boot? Sometimes it helps to
press <RETURN> at the boot prompt, and not let the system wait for
    the five second timeout.

  • Applying Patches in Solaris 10 x86

    Hello,
    I have been testing Solaris 10 x86.
I am trying to determine the best method for applying patches, as I do not have a Sun Service Plan.
I have used smpatch analyze and smpatch update to apply the required paches to my system, but I am not sure that I am getting the patches that I should be. It seems that when I run smpatch analyze and smpatch update, not all of the patches are applied (aside from the ones that should be installed in single user mode).
I know that without a service plan, I only qualify for hardware patches and security updates.
    Please advise,
    Thanks for your help.

    Hello all
Just installed Oracle clusterware on solaris 10 x86 everything was working fine until i rebooted, now when i run crs_stat -t i receive the error

Can anybody advise what this is?

    Franky,
I have seen this in the past. This has definitely to do something with the permissions - wherein oracle doesn't have the write permissions on some directory under $CRS_HOME/ especially $CRS_HOME/css. Please check the log file $CRS_HOME/log/<hostname>/cssd/ocssd.log file to it is points to a specific directory, if not most likely it may be something wrong with $CRS_HOME/css....please check. Oracle should have write permissions.
    Thanks

Here are some additional statements for 10g on Solaris 10g x86:
    1. Execute runInstaller with the -ignoreSysPrereqs option.
    2. Select 'Do not create a starter database' when installing Oracle 10g.
    3. During installation, the warning message 'SUNWsprox package not installed' can be ignored. Press Continue to resume the installation.
    4. Download and install patch 4186426 from metalink.oracle.com after installing Oracle 10g software.
    5. If you have an End User Solaris 10 distribution, install the SUNWuiu8 package prior to installing the 10g client.
