Cache Memory Solaris 8

Hi,
When have installed Solaris8, can I reset system memory cache? How?

prtmem was part of the MEMTOOLS package you just listed, I belive it relies on a kernel module in that package and doesn't work on any of the newer kernel revisions. But it certainly works on 8, right? And that's the OS you were referring to, so I assumed you were thinking of something else.
From that page:
System Requirements:     SPARC/Solaris 2.6
               SPARC/Solaris 7
               SPARC/Solaris 8
               SPARC/Solaris 9
               x86 /Solaris 8
               x86 /Solaris 9
So if that's what you want to use, go for it!
I thought freemem didn't include pages that had an identity, so there could be more memory free then was actually listed in freemem. What do you mean by 'identity'? Most pages are either allocated/reserved by a process (in use) or used by the disk cache. Under Solaris 7 and earlier, both reduced the 'freemem' number. Under 8 and later, only the first one does.

  • Command line interface to "code cache" memory pool utilization

I need to monitor the usage of the "code cache" memory pool through a command-line interface, but it doesn't seem to me that the jstat tool is able to give me any information about this particular memory pool. Are there any other tools that is able to give me the details I need? I'm using both JDK 5 and 6.

Typically, this is a class path Problem when the JVM is unable to locate a
class. Are you sure that the class listed as missing below is included in
    your class path?

  • Maintaining data of view objects in cache memory for repeated usage

    Hi,
We are developing an application which is having around 800 viewobjects that will be used as LOV in different screens. Therefore, it is decided to create a separate project for all such LOV view objects and keep the same in shared scope so that the data can be made availabe across the application.
The application also communicates with different database schemas based on the logged-in county. For a particular user, LOV view object LovView1 should get the data fetched from Schema1 whereas for user2, the same LovView1 should get the data from Schema2.
For this, we have created n number of ApplicationModules like AM1, AM2 etc in the project each one being connected to different database. A base application module also has been created and all the county specific AMs extend this base AM. Also all the LOV view object instances are included in this base AM so that they will be available in the county specific AMs also. The entire project is made as an ADF Library jar and this base AM is utilized by other projects for mapping the LOV by attaching the library.
At runtime, whenever a particular viewobject is accessed, the findViewObject() method of the baseAM has been overridden and the logic is built in such a way to get the logged in user's county code from a session variable and based on the county, the corresponding AM is communicated with and the view object is returned.
The view objects of the LOV project is used as LOV as well as for doing some other backend processes. In such cases, the view object is obtained and necessary filter conditions are appended to the view criteria and is executed to get the filtered rowset.
    Now, my questions are,
    1. Is it enough to create the jar for the LOVProject and access the view objects from the same baseAM across the application?
    2. I wish to keep all the data in cache memory to avoid repeated DB hits for all the LOV view objects. How it can be achieved? To be more precise, consider two users user1 and user2 logging into the application with different county. When user1 access a LOV viewobject for the first time, data needs to be fetched from the DB, kept in application scoped cache memory and return the rowset. On subsequent calls to the viewobject, the data needs to be retreived from the cache and not from the DB. When user2 also access the same LOV viewobject, the same logic as explained for user1 should happen. How can I achieve this? Actually my doubt is when user2 access, will the data pertaining to user1 remains available in cache? If not, how to make it retain the data in cache?
    3. I also wish to append a particular where condition to a viewobject irrespective of other considerations like logged in county, existing view criteria etc.. How can I do this? A separate thread for this requirement has been posted in the forum Including additional where clause conditions to view criteria dynamically
    Kindly give me your suggessions.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards.

    Hi Vijay,
    regarding your questions:
    1. What is the difference between "TimesTen In-Memory Database" and
"In-Memory Database Cache" in terms of features and licensing model?
==> Product has just been renamed and integrated better with the Oracle database - Times-Ten == In-Memory-Cache-Database
    2. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option integrated with Oracle 10g
installable or a separate installable (i.e. TimesTen installable with only
    cache feature)?
    ==> Seperate Installation
    3. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option same as that of "TimesTen Cache
Connect to Oracle" option in TimesTen In-Memory Database?
    ==> Please have a look here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/timesten/quickstart/cc_qs_index.html
    This explains the differences.
    4. After integrating "In-Memory Database Cache" option with Oracle 10g, data
access will happen only through Oracle sqlplus or OCI calls. Am I right here
    in making this statement?
==> Please see above mentioned papers
    5. Is it possible to cache the result set of a join query in "In-Memory
    Database Cache"?
    ==> Again ... ;-)
    Kind regards

  • Cache Memory Allocator \ Short Term Memory Allocator Issues

    Hi all
I have a number of identically configured (High School) Servers which are giving me the same memory errors (some more frequently than others) and I've run out of ideas.
They are all HP Proliant DL360 G6 Servers, NetWare 6.5 sp8 with eDir 8.8 sp5.
    The error messages are :
"Cache memory allocator out of available memory." followed by "Short term memory allocator is out of memory. xxx attempts to get more memory failed. request size in bytes xxxxxxxx from Module SWEEP.NLM"
The module referred to is always "SWEEP.NLM" (Sophos Anti-virus). A Server reset solves the problem but it is normally back within a month.
I've posted below a config.txt and segstats.txt from one of the servers.
I would be grateful if someone could help me with this as it's now becoming a 'headache'.
    Cheers
    Neil Hughes

Somewhat. From the time of day, and the loading of commvault modules
inbetween, this looks like a combined backup / AV scan issue. The
requests of Sophos are comparably big in size, and they vary a lot. That
will lead to fragmentation of your memory, until the memory can't be
allocated in one chunk any more. It also *seems* as if Sophos actually
scans the data while it gets backed up. That is *bad*.

  • Cache memory usage of Hyperion Planning, Workspace and Financial Reporting

We have installed Hyperion Planning, Workspace and Financial Reporting in one single server and we would like to know is there any cache memory setting can be fine tuned to improved the overall online performance of the system.
How can we control the memory usage of individual user logged into Workspace and Hyperion Planning? And if users generate a large size report in Financial Reporting, should more memory be allocated to the user so as to speed up the report generation speed?
    Thanks in advance!

Our onsite consultants told us that as we have many web forms and some web forms contains lot of cells, the compiled Hyperion Planning application is quite large (> 1GB) and sometimes may have "out of memory" problem. We just wonder we are using 64bit version of Windows 2003 we should have a much larger memory address space. How can we improve the "out of memory" issue?
Or Hyperion Planning is still a 32 bit application?

  • Image loading cache memory issue

    Hi All,
I am facing an interesting problem about cache memory. Let me explain it using an example.
Let say, an xml file contains 5 images information. I want to load a image on stage one by one but randomly ( not on the sequence of XML items). This is working fine.
Now, i am coming to the issue. If user start the application. Then let say, "image 1" is loaded first and "image 3" is loaded second. Now user's internet connection is lost then i want to show image 1 only and then when user's internet is connected start the ramdom image loading as normal.
Hope anyone guide me about how to achive the goal !!
    Thanks in Advance.

you can use the sharedobject class to determine how long ago the user logged in and the sequence of images that you want to display.

  • Cache memory problem in Bridge

I am using PSE 8 on a mac (osx 10.5.8) and having a problem searching with Bridge.  I got a message that "Bridge encountered a problem reading the cache memory.  Go to central cache and purge cache memory."  I did that, but the problem still exists.  All of my items are still visible, with keywords attached.  When I enter a term in the search box, I get the message "No items to display."  I tried to rebuild cache, but maybe I didn't do it correctly.  Can anyone tell me how to proceed?  Thanks in advance.

Running a separate 8 TB NAS, 10 drives in my main system and 10 or so on
other various machines; and accessing my hundreds of thousands of images via
Bridge I have some experience in this matter.
My recommendation would to ensure that "Automatically Export Cache to
Folders When Possible" is checked.  If your external 3TB drive has a sleep
mode (power save) turn it off.  It is likely that you will have to try
either or both of these options.
This will not 100% solve your problem.  If you have space within your
computer for additional drives, and turn off hard drive power save, all will
be solved.  I would highly recommend a standalone NAS station in mirror mode
with room to grow.  Myself, those files stored on my NAS generally take 20
seconds or so to display after a drive has gone to sleep.
As for the temp files you referenced it is more than likely that yes, they
can be deleted.  If they are housed in a TMP, Temp, etc. directory then they
can be deleted.  A good way to check if they can be deleted would be to
temporarily change the name of the directory and restart your computer.
Afterwards start up Photoshop and Bridge and edit several files of a
significant size.  Shut down both and then see if there are any new files.
    Hope this helps.

  • Cache memory issue!

    Hi All,
we have a report that has around 4000 pages of data, and when i try to print manually to the printer it has going around 3200 pages and can't go further. I am guessing it is a cache memory issue, any suggestions on how to fix this.
    thankz,
    kalyan.

    Hi,
you have quite an out-of-date version there. Can you consider upgrading to the latest service packs (5) and fix pack (5.5)? You can download the SPs and FixPacks here ( [http://service.sap.com/patches] ) If the problem persists after the upgrade I recommend issuing a support ticket here [http://service.sap.com/support]

  • Cache memory lock

    Dear All,
Recently we had migrated BI Application from Oracle version 8.1.7.0.0
to 9.2.0.5.0 but we had Cache memory lock issues in production after
smoothly going through acceptance (for two months), that was
attributed to bug in Oracle version 9.2.0.5.0 and a patch was applied
as 9.2.0.6.0. But similar kind of issues can be still noticed (3 times
in last 5 months). It happens right at the beginning of the batch, to
be more specific, database goes to cache memory lock while most of my
jobs are running integrity violation checks.
Any inputs on this would be highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Mahesh

    Hi Patrick
Sorry, looked again and see its SATA.  No jumper on SATA.
You will not see a SATA in normal post screens, you have to enable it in bios, either Via or Promise, I prefer Via.  In Integrated peripherals, look at page 3- 20 of manual, there is an item SATA IDE, that is Via controller, enable that. Above it is PATA IDE, the IDE1 and 2 controller, enable that. Below it the floppy disk controller, enable it (not auto).  Then go up to Onboard PCI controller, click on it, then the P20378 SATA controller, the promise controller, disable it. Check the LAN and onboard sound the AC97 controller, is enabled if you use it. The 1394 controller, the firewire for digital cameras etc. Now go to the advanced bios features, the Boot Sequence, set it to floppy, CD, and Serial CH_0 (SATA 1 on via). Enable  Boot from other devices, and enable floppy seek, (floppy swap is disabled). Then exit and save.
You can now out your XP CD in CD drive and boot, it will ask you to press key to boot from CD, the first blue setup screen, will ask you to press F^ to load drivers, then a couple of mins later it arrives at S screen, put Via floppy in drive A, press enter, this will give list of files, select BOTH XP drivers ( you need to load 1, then back to S screen repeat for 2nd driver, then enter to proceed, next the F* ' accept ' screen, then load windows setup, then it asks if you want to install to drive. partition, format and install.
In the bios screens your HDD will show as Via device called Serial CH_0 or Serial CH_1 (SATA2), which appear after the other drive screens.  If the promise controller is enabled, but no drive attached to SER1 or 2, then you will see a message ' Bios not  installed'
Any problems, there should be none, let me know.
    cheers
    jocko

  • How to clear cache memory

Hi again! Does anyone has the source code in J2ME for clearing cache memory? My application is consuming larger memory in long run and I need to clear the cache memory manually else my application will be 'hanged'. Please advise.
    Thanks in advance!
    Regards,
    TK

It's equivalant, so System.gc() will look like this:
    public static final void gc(){
       Runtime.getRuntime().gc();
}Nothing more, nothing less. It's not really faster, since the compiler will probably inline it.

  • How to clear cache memory used by APP in iphone

How to clear memory consumed by apps in iphone? For example, google app size is 85mb!but now it takes 427mb! Now i want to clear them. Most of the APP are unneccessary consuming more memory. There should be someway to clear the cache memory of app. Please help!

Well, the app programmer does not consider the saved data "unnecessary" - it's there to perform some function of the app. The Google app, for example, saves your searches so it doesn't have to use data every time.
However, in the Google App itself tap the Settings icon, Privacy, Browsing. You can enable or disable "on-device history" and also clear the on-device history. That's what I meant when I said that some apps have settings to manage their cache.

  • Cache Memory Locking

My client is experiencing a strange problem on DB2 OLAP Server 8.1(Essbase 6.5.1). On checking the Cache Memory Locking box in Application Manager under Database ->Settings, the display under Database->Information-> Storage tab shows Disabled when the database is running and Enabled when the database is stopped. I am not entirely sure what's happening i.e is Essbase using the Cache Memory Locking feature and is this just a display problem? Has anyone experienced this before? Any insight into resolving this? Thanks

As far my Knowledge Essbase Should allow you to change cache settings at any Given point of time, But the effect will take place only when the database is restarted.I worked on unix and win Nt/2000 and i never experienced this problem.i Suggest you to open a ticket with Hyperion and let them look into this issue.Thankssreenivas
