Cache Server 3 - get_server_port issue
Recently installed OS X server on Mavericks to use cashe server to ease the download burden on my slow broadband and am getting the following message appearing in the log
Nov 26 18:35:46 robimac27 AssetCache[18067]: [EAPOLControl.c:66] get_server_port(): eapolcontroller_server_port failed, unknown error code
Does anyone have any idea of the possible cause of how to investigate further.
The error arises from
get_server_port(port_t * server, kern_return_t * status)
boolean_t active = FALSE;
*status = eapolcontroller_server_port(server, &active);
if (active == FALSE) {
fprintf(stderr, "%s not active\n", EAPOLCONTROLLER_SERVER);
return (FALSE);
if (*status != BOOTSTRAP_SUCCESS) {
fprintf(stderr, "eapolcontroller_server_port failed, %s\n",
mach_error_string(*status));
return (FALSE);
return (TRUE);
}eapo
Wireless is just not as reliable or persistent as wired. Any chance you can plug your server into your wireless router?
I imaging there is no technical reason why caching server would not work on wireless provided the requirements are met (running on private network behind a NAT). But I can imaging many many issues with server processes getting wacky when the primary interface is wireless.
Have you tried enabling it? What was the result?

Cache server getcert http request issue
Hi,
We are using third party repository for documents archiving and storage. And we have separate application for connecting third party repository to the SAP.
We have installed content server and cache server on the system where SAP was installed.
Now we want to run getcert HTTP request from our application so that we will get the certificate from SAP cache server. What we need to do in order to achieve the same? Or in other words how we can make the connectivity between cache server and the third party repository?
We have verified the following URLs
http://10.224.1.37:1090/ContentServer/ContentServer.dll?serverInfo
http://10.224.1.37:1095/Cache/CSProxyCache.dll?serverInfo
(Where 10.224.1.37 is the IP address of the system where SAP is installed)
for content server and cache server respectively.
The URL for cache server was giving the correct server information but URL for content server is not at all showing any server information even after running for long time.
Could you please tell me step by step by procedure and configuration steps for running get cert request to cache server? We want to know how to send the getcert request to third party content management system from cache server.
We have given the following URL in http get functional module but we are getting a 400 bad request response
http://10.224.1.37:1095/Cache/CSProxyCache.dll?getcert&pversion=0046&conrep=RH
Where RH is pointing to the third party content server (through transaction oac0).
Thanks,
RaviHi All,
I am also facing the same problem, Please help us out to solve this issue.
Thanks in advance

Regards
Kannan KKannan,
the error in your logs like "NoClassDefFoundError" etc. point us towards issues with jar files. either they are missing or not the correct ones.
A general practice in such situation is to
stop all servers except CMS,IFRS,OFRS > repair the base installation
OR
If you have a working environment with the exact same patch, copy the 'lib' folder from "/bobje/sap_bobj/enterprise_xi40/java/" to the non-working server.
PS: please attach the logs to the thread instead of pasting the content.

The Security Token Service is not available error on dedicated Distributed Cache server
I have an error on a dedicated Distributed Cache server stating that the Security Token Service is not available. I was under the impression that when Distributed Cache was running on a dedicated server that the only service that should be enabled
is Distributed Cache.
The token service is working as expected on all other servers but this one. Does this service need to be started or should I just ignore this error message?
Jennifer Knight (MCITP, MCPD)as per my little experience with 2013, if STS is working fine on Web server then I am sure that sharepoint will be fine...Distributed cache stores the ST issued by STS. NO need to worry about this error.
Token Cache
DistributedLogonTokenCache
This
cache stores the security token issued by a Secure Token Service for use by any web server in the server farm. Any web server that receives a request for resources can access the security token from the cache, authenticate the user, and provide access to the
resources requested.
I would say check the ULS logs and get more details about the error why its not working on that server.
Please remember to mark your question as answered &Vote helpful,if this solves/helps your problem. ****************************************************************************************** Thanks -WS MCITP(SharePoint 2010, 2013) Blog: http://wscheema.com/blog -
Installing Live Cache Server on SCM 4.1 system
Hi All,
I have installed an SCM 4.1 Abap + Java System and Live cache client was installed during SCM 4.1 installation.
I would like to install Live cache server and i have problems with it.
I have downloaded the following installation guide
SAP liveCache 7.5.0 For SAP SCM Server 4.1
Document Version 1.02 u2013 April 8th, 2005
Guide tells us to use installation master CD for installating Live cache Server but note 708118 tells us to use the CD 51031447
04 Nov 05 Windows AMD64: Start Installation from liveCache CD
Start the installation of the liveCache server or client from the liveCache
CD (number 51031447) and not from the installation master CD (number
51031443)
Upon checking the cd 51031447 i see SDBINST.exe and upon clicking it i get the following screen
Installation of SAP LiveCache Software
existing profiles
0: APO Livecache
1: Runtime for SAP AS
2: DB Analyzer
3: JDBC
4: Server
5: Loader
6: ODBC
7: All
8: None
Please enter profile id :
I select profile 0 and it comes back with another user input option
Im searching for a document which gives me the procedure for installing Live cache using SBDINST.exe
Regards,
Ershad Ahmed.Hi All,
I went ahead with Option 0 and it asked me for Kernel file and i provided the files.
I checked logs in /sapdb/wrk directory and i see that Installation of SAP livecache finished successfully.
From LC10 i gave database connection name (LCA) and clicked on live cache monitoring and it comes back with an error

From the OS level i gave command dbmcli db_enum and i get OK as reply.
Can someone please let me know how to resolve this issue.

Using Caching Server with Only Two Macs?
I'm currently running OS X Mavericks (10.9.4) on both of my Macs (2008 MB and 2010 MBP). We have a limited Internet download allotment, so I am trying to find ways to reduce the number OS X system update downloads. Someone suggested that I take a look at OS X Server, because it has a Caching Server, which would download the update once and install from a local location when other Macs updated.
Given that I only have two (2) Macs, and one of those would have OS X Server, would that work for me?
Or would the fact that one of my Macs would be running OS X Server make the updates to it incompatible for my other Mac? If that was a problem, would installing OS X Server on both Macs, but only running the Caching Server on one of them resolve the issue?
I don't need OS X Server for anything else.
Thanks!
Bev in TXWe have a NetGear router/firewall between the ISP's satellite modem and our computers (my DH's two MS Windows PCs & my two Macs). All of our computers are connected to the network via ethernet cable (wireless network disabled).
My Macs are both network configured with:
Configure iPv4: Using DHCP
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Router: 192.168.1.1
DNS Server: 192.168.1.1
MP IP address: 192.168.1.6
MBP IP address: 192.168.1.2
But, I don't know whether those are static or not. I tried switching my Macs' cable ports on the router, but that did not change the IP addresses. I realize that didn't prove anything, though it would have if the IP addresses had changed.
I used to be able to download updates from an Apple support web page, but things are not so simple anymore. I had a discussion about this a while back at in the Safari Community.
https://discussions.apple.com/message/26456050?ac_cid=op123456#26456050
Aside from the suggestion to install OS X Server, a couple suggestions were made for manually downloading or copying a package:
Download a log from an arcane URL; try to find the appropriate update in that log; download the update using the URL in the log file. I can readily see a couple downfalls in this scenario:
The arcane URL could be changed, so that I would no longer know its location.
I could easily select the wrong update from that log file.
Do the update on one Mac, watching folder /Library/Updates to copy the downloaded package. However, that package would automatically be deleted by the system, so I would have to be able to do the copy prior to its removal. I'm not clear as to how this would work, given that the download and installation are automatically performed, and I have no indication as to when the former ends and the latter starts.
In either case, the downloaded packages would not make any suitability checks, so I could easily mess up a system (though it would probably not be likely if I keep my Macs OS synchronized). Still a trashed system can be a headache even with good backups, due to the time it would take to restore a system. That's why I considered going the OS X Server route, but I know about zilch when it comes to networking.

Stale Near Cache data when all Cache Server fails and are restarted
Hi,
We are currently making use of Coherence 3.6.1. We are seeing an issue. The following is the scenario:
- caching servers and proxy server are all restarted.
- one of the cache say "TestCache" is bulk loaded with some data (e.g. key/value of : key1/value1, key2/value, key3/value3) on the caching servers.
- near cache client connects onto the server cluster via the Extend Proxy Server.
- near cache client is primed with all data from the cache server "TestCache". Hence, near cache client now has all key/values locally (i.e. key1/value1, key2/value, key3/value3).
- all caching servers in the cluster is down, but the extend proxy server is ok.
- all cache server in the cluster comes back up.
- we reload all cache data into "TestCache" on the cache server, but this time it only has key/value of : key1/value1, key2/value.
- So the caching server's state for "TestCache" is that it should only have key1/value1, key2/value, but the near cache client still thinks it's got key1/value1, key2/value, key3/value3. So in effect, it still knows about key3/value3 which no longer exists.
Is there anyway for the near cache client to invalidate the key3/value3 automatically? This scenario happens because the extend proxy server is actually not down, but all caching servers are, but the near cache client for some reason doesn't know about this and does not invalidate the cache client near cache data.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
Regards
Wilson.Hi,
I do have the invalidation strategy as "ALL". Remember this cache client is connected via the Extend proxy server where it's connectivity is still ok, just the caching server holding the storage data in the cluster are all down.
Please let me know why else we can try.
Thanks

Caching server does not always cache. AppleId?
Under the services menu (Server version 4) I have Caching enabled.
The promise of this functionality thrilled me when I first discovered it. I have a family of Mac users, 5 laptops, 4 iPads, and 5 iPhones. Internet wise we are out of ADSL range and have to use 3G wireless data modems for access. This is fantastically expensive and we try to keep bandwidth usage to a minimum. Hence the promise of downloading once and having application updates cached automatically was wonderful.
However in some cases it seems to work wonderfully and others not at all. My guess is that many apps are individually coded to the AppleId of the end user and that unless you are using the same AppleId for all users the caching server is of limited use. Is this a good guess? Why would some apps not cache? Any suggestions?
Many thanks for your time.
MarkThank you Brenden.
That page was helpful but does not get to the root of my issue.
I listened to Steve Gibson spend 3 podcast episodes of Security Now elaborating on the fine details of iOS security some months ago. I seem to remember (and I may have this confused) that much of the content that the Apple systems download is encrypted using among other things the AppleId of the purchaser. This is not just a DRM measure but a security measure. It wont let code run unless it is verified. What I suspect the implication is for me and for caching services is that only shared content and maybe generic updates to operation system etc (things that are not encrypted with the AppleId as the key) could be cached.
Implication is that given most users in my household are buying their own applications via their own AppleId these files cannot be shared via a caching service. Hence if one daughter is using her own version of Final Cut tied to her AppleId and another has a different version of Final Cut tied to her AppleId (stupid example) but when an update becomes available the multiple gigabyte file is downloaded twice and ironically cached twice.
The above is only conjecture on my part but seems to fit with what is happening.
Does anyone here know the facts as to this?
Would love to know.
thanks again,
Mark -
I know there are a lot of discussions about Caching across subnets but none appear to have the same issue I'm having. I'm hoping that someone can help me out.
I have 1 public IP for my school. I'm running a a Juniper SRX220 with 2 /23 subnets. One is for the protected LAN and the other is for Guest WiFi. In the school all of the Teacher iPads and PCs are on the Protected LAN. I put all of the Student iPad Minis on the Guest. In my Juniper I have all access from Guest network blocked except to the internet and of course there is a rule to allow protected side devices to access the Guest if needed. So it is a one way block.
At first I put the server on the protected network and verified that all the Teachers devices would pull the cached data from it. I then opened up the firewall to allow only access tp the Caching server from the Guest network so the Minis could get their updates from there. This did not work. I then removed the "Deny All" statement at the end of my rule base and added an "Allow All", just for testing, and still nothing. I then moved the Caching server to the Guest network and the Minis now can pull there data from it but the Teachers cannot.
I know the obvious question is if the "Only cache content for local networks" is checked or not. It is not checked. Since my subnet is a /23 I have to have this unchecked or I would not be able to serve data to the second half of my block as by default (checked) it's looking for a /24 (class C). The next question is if it's routing. I can ping the Apple server from either subnet when it is on either side, so routing between the subnets is fine. Also when I disable the firewall between the subnets it is still broken.
I'm at a loss as to what it might be? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
ThanksI have this exact problem too. Interestingly, I have this on my Mini server, then I've setup a caching server on my MacBook Pro and its the same. This log is from my MacBook Pro, its called badgerbookpro.local but its the same on the Mini server. Both are runing 10.8.3

Caching Server - Caching Mavericks Installer
Is there a way to allow the caching server in Server 3.0 to cache Mavericks 10.9 to limit external bandwidth?
I tweaked the DNS a little bit more...Under DHCP IPv4 Properties --> DNS Tab. I selected "Dynamically update DNS A and PTR records for DHCP clients that do not request updates". This allowed our DNS to register the Macintosh server and ipads etc. My SMB2 speed is up to 300 mbps from 16 mbps.
My caching server transfers are still maxing out at 2.1 MBps. I have switched out my wireless unit to a 150 mbps unit that the iPad is connected to. My next troubleshooting step will be to download an app in iTunes on a computer that is plugged in to our gigabit ethernet on the same switch as the Mac Server to elliminate any potential bottlenecks or wireless issues.
Still looking for ideas if anybody has troubleshooting ideas. -
Is Caching Server 2 limited to 256 IP range?
Hello eveyone,
We have and extended IP range issued from Server 2008 R2 64.
It covers at least 192.168.136 where most of my devices are, and 192.168.140.
OS X server is in the .140 upper range where fixed IPs are, with a netmask of 255.255.248.0
On caching Services, I have checked only cache content for the local network.
I'm trying to verify Server 3.0.2's Caching Server 2.
Is there a foreseable problem with this?
Francois.I checked
sudo serveradmin fullstatus caching, It looks OK.
I do have a peer array.
caching:Peers:_array_index:0:address = "192.168.144.228", but it outside our immediate network if I get it right.
By having checked " Ony cache content for the local network", am I preventing the peer array from using my Caching server?
And if I get "caching:TotalBytesFromPeers = 0", can it be the other caching server has also it's "Ony cache content for the local network" set on too?

Mavericks Caching Server very slow on gigabit Microsoft Network
Specs. OS X 10.9.5 / Mac mini / 8 GB Ram - Connected to Gigabit ethernet, 2 TB Hard Drives, 2.3 Ghz i7
Only a few days old. I have done all available updates that Apple released.
I had some difficulty getting the Mavericks caching server to work in the first place on our Windows Server 2012 network. Caching would work for the Server itself but none of my iPads or other Windows machines would cache or pull from the cache.
My work around was to manually create a DNS Host Name and PTR on the Windows Server so that we could actually nslookup and ping the Mavericks Server by hostname.domain.local This immediately fixed the issue and all hosts can cache and pull from the cache.
Speed is an issue. I currently cannot get any transfer speeds over 2 MB/s
Using the caching server to deploy an app (I verified that the internet connection was not being used and that it was coming from the caching server)
Connecting to a file share on the Windows Server and manually Copy/Paste files.
I verified the slowness using Activity Monitor on the Mavericks Server.
I have researched and found many similar complaints for the SMB2 protocol. I did not find a good enough Terminal Command to paste that I felt comfortable doing and at a later date undoing when Apple fixes the slowness issue.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Does anybody know the protocol that Mavericks uses by default to send out the cached updates etc (SMB)?
If you know the correct command to paste into Terminal to force Mavericks to use SMB1 and also the command to undo this change I am willing to try that as well.
Thank you in advance,

Caching Server 4.0 not found on different network.
I can not get the caching server to start caching stuff on our network.
We run a 10 network for all our workstations. The servers are on a public IP, though not publicly accessible.
I am able to ping the server from my MBP. I can telnet to any of the open ports without issue.
Under the settings, we have it set for: Cache content for clients connecting from "All Networks"
Serve clients with public addresses: "on other networks".
Under the settings, i have all our public IP addresses listed. I have copied the TXT record and put that in our DNS configuration.
At no time does any of our machines on the 10.0.0.0 network connect up to this OSX server. We have an old server still in production on the public ip and it appears to connect to the caching server once in a while. You are right, it doesn't just come out and say it. I had it in the back of my mind that the Caching Server must be on the same subnet as the clients. This information comes from Apple's certification book "OS X Server Essentials 10.9: Using and Supporting OS X Server on Mavericks". Basically the server and clients need to be on the same subnet behind a NAT device.
You can read an excerpt describing the Caching service requirements here:

How to apply Qos in the precedence of cache server
m in an isp and iwant to apply the QOS to enhance my network internet performance
actually i have two requests , i will start with showing brief topology about my network and start asking the questions .
here is the topology below :
from the topology above , my access is only on R1 which is BGP internet gateway router and R2 is my ISP router.
1- i want to apply Qos on R1 so that a subnet of 32 ips to have gurantee bandwidth of 30M .
assume the subnet is 10.20.30.0/27 that need to be bw gurantee .
2- i want the download traffic by idman or ftp on my Router R1 dont exceed 50 % of my total bw .
i mean that i have 450M bandwith from my isp , & sometimes we have a slow in browsing , so i want to enhance the browsing quality because its more important that downloading files from internet.
here is my two requests above , i dont know how it will work with the precedence of the cache server .
anyway , i will paste my config of router and i will replace my puplic ips with xxx for privacy .

Feel really ashamed asking this...but where do you set the 'default' cursor selection highlight cell color in Numbers? At the moment when I select a cell it highlights it in Black! which is OK if you're not using Black as a font color but if you are
