Caching .txt files?

In Flash 7 if you have a dynamic text field which is
populated by an external .txt file I don't ever remember having to
clear my cache to view my newly updated text. In Flash 8 this is
now a problem. I want the main movie cached but not the dynamic
text. I've looked around the forums and there are several solutions
to not cache the entire thing. How do you not cache a .txt?
Thanks

Thanks for your reply and sorry for the dumb question:
where do I put that variable?
This is how I load it:
_root.blog_mc.loadVariables("blog_text.txt",_root.blog_text);
Thanks

  • Cache creation hang on .txt file

    I have 50+ sites defined.
    This one directory hangs on site cache creation and
    dreamweaver never gets past any file.
    I thought it might have been a specific file, and have
    removed one after another to discover it doesn't care what the file
    is, it just fails to create a site on this directory, or anything
    containing this directory.
    I have checked permissions and am stumped by this.
    Any ideas?

    Hi guys,
    Thanks for your help!
    I did the modifications you advised me. It's working well:
    Now I'd like the following: If make "SAVE" for the same file three times, I'd like it to be like in the attached txt file (data):
    How can I implement it?  I've  tried it with "Set File Position" but it's not working.

    Example is that you retrieve the String key = "B@12rty]"; The only way you would get this is if you had taken the toString() method on an array of bytes. The toString() method of an array does not give one a String representation of the content of the array - it just gives you a pseudo reference to the array which is of little practical use.
    How do you convert the String into byte[] byte as exactly "B@12rty]" so that when you do a do a System.out.println(byte); it would return "B@12rty]" rather than other things.See my comment above.

    In simple terms , treating the String as a byte[] by literally taking the String is the byte[] without converting it into something else so to save the trouble.Strings contain characters. Bytes are not characters so Strings should not be used as containers for bytes.

  • Can application know the location of its most recent cached *jnlp* file?

    Can an application know if it was launched by clicking on the hyperlink in a web page, or whether it was launched from the shortcut on the desktop?
    Alternatively, Can the application know the location of its most recent cached jnlp file on the desktop?
    To take a specific example, let's say I have a word processor, My Word that is deployed using Web Start. It can view documents on the web and must also work offline to view local documents.
    When a user clicks the hyperlink to the doc, say,
    myParty Open the myParty document
    then myParty.jnlp launches My Word, opening the myParty.txt file.
    Since there is no way to pass arguments dynamically, one must have a jnlp file for each doc.
    So myParty.jnlp has the url of the doc hardcoded in it.
    <application-desc main-class="MyWord">
    <argument>http://www.MySite.com/myParty.doc</argument>
    </application-desc>
    The problem is that apparently Web Start uses the most recent jnlp each time it is launched.
    So that if the file has moved, or if one is offline, then the application hangs because it is trying to open the same document, regardless of whether MyWord was launched by clicking on the hyperlink in a web page - in which case this would be appropriate - or whether it was launched from the shortcut on the desktop - inappropriate here.
    As a workaround, I was wondering - where is the jnlp file stored on the local desktop?
    If the application could find the most recent jnlp, then it could rewrite it (after it was opened the first time) with an identical jnlp that has no application-desc arguments.
    Then when the user runs from the shortcut on the desktop, it will launch without a document to open.
    Any help appreciated.
    thanks,
    Anil Philip

    1) To make it more complicated, it seems that the browser also does the caching.
    2) I could not find the jnlp as a file on the desktop, so I suspect that is stored in some database. Is there any way the application can write to it or any api to simply allow the application to change the arguments?
    3) It is not an option to use jnlpservlet as the document can be placed anywhere and not just on a webserver under our control.

  • How to open and edit "*.txt" file with "Notepad"

    Hello guys!
    I'm facing problem with SharePoint 2010 Enterprise and got no clue how to solve it.
    What I want to do is to open "*.txt" (which is placed to "Documents Library") in "Notepad", so I could edit it and save (publish) directly to SharePoint from "Notepad".
    If I upload any Microsoft office File, such as "*.docx", "*.xls", etc - it works as it should - document opens in appropriate application and everybody is happy.
    But, when I create documents library, put some "*.txt" file there and click on it - it opens in new browser's tab as text, so I cannot edit the file.
    What I tried to do is to activate feature "Open Documents in Client Applications by Default" - not happy.
    Edit "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\TEMPLATE\XML\DOCICON.XML" - I've modified "txt" entry as follows:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <DocIcons>
        <ByProgID>
        </ByProgID>
        <ByExtension>
    <Mapping Key="txt" Value="ictxt.gif" EditText="Notepad" OpenControl="SharePoint.OpenDocuments"/>
        </ByExtension>
        <Default>
            <Mapping Value="icgen.gif"/>
        </Default>
    </DocIcons>
    Still not happy.
    So, how do I make this stuff work?

  • Archiving TXT files in Sender File Adapter--Unformatted Way

    Hello,
    I am Archiving TXT files thru Sender file adapter, files are getting archived to specified directory.No issues in that.,
    When i open the archived files, those are not in the correct format way that i placed before file pickup.
    Header & lines got messed up side by side.
    Regards

    Hi,
    If the file that it being archived is not transformed, it should exactly be the same as the original file.
    Please make sure that you are not transforming the archive file by any means(unix script, mapping logics etc).
    As suggested above, it is advisable to open the file in the editors like textpad, ultraedit etc. The difference in the alignment could be because of the notepad editor.
    Try to open the original and archived files in any of those(textpad,ultraedit etc) editors and check.
    Please let us know if you are still able to find the difference in the alignment.

    The problem is in the delimiters in your text file. By default, Read From Spreadsheet File.vi expects a tab delimited file. You can specify a delimiter (like a space), but Read From Spreadsheet File.vi has a problem with repeated delimiters: if you specify a single space as a delimiter and Read From Spreadsheet File.vi finds two spaces back-to-back, it stops reading that line. Your file (as I got it from your earlier post) is delimited by 4 spaces.
    Here are some of your choices to fix your problem.
    1. Change the source file to a tab delimited file. Your VI will then run as is.
    2. Change the source file to be delimited by a single space (rather than 4), then wire a string constant containing one space to the delimiter input of Read From Spreadsheet File.vi.
    3. Wire a string constant containing 4 spaces to the delimiter input of Read From Spreadsheet File.vi. Then your text file will run as is.
    Depending on where your text file comes from (see more comments below), I'd vote for choice 1: a tab delimited text file. It's the most common text output of spreadsheet programs.
    Comments for choices 1 and 2: Where does the text file come from? Is it automatically generated or manually generated? Will it be generated multiple times or just once? If it's manually generated or generated just once, you can use any text editor to change 4 spaces to a tab or to a single space. Note: if you want to change it to a tab delimited file, you can't enter a tab directly into a box in the search & replace dialog of many programs like notepad, but you can do a cut and paste. Before you start your search and replace (just in the text window of the editor), press tab. A tab character will be entered. Press Shift-LeftArrow (not Backspace) to highlight the tab character. Press Ctrl-X to cut the tab character. Start your search and replace (Ctrl-H in notepad in Windows 2000). Click into the Find What box. Enter four spaces. Click into the Replace With box. Press Ctrl-V to paste the tab character. And another thing: older versions of notepad don't have search and replace. Use any editor or word processor that does.

  • Copy contents of a txt file into a transport request

    can anyone tell me how can I copy the contents of a txt file into a transport request?

    Hello,
    I don't know the OSS note, but I think they mean, that you have to go into the object list of your transport (in transaction SE09), switch to change mode and insert the objects from the text file.
    I guess the text file looks like:
    R3TR PROG xyz
    R3TR TABL abc

  • A better way to search a string in a 3GB txt file

    I am looking for a string(12 characters) in a 3GB txt file. I use the file reader to go though each line and use the startwith() (that 12 characters are from the beginning of each line) to check if that line contain the string I am searching for. Is there a faster way to do it? Thank's.

    I would avoid using java to parse/search a 3 GB text file at all costs. Any java solution is going to have terrible performance and you may run into memory problems. I would recomend that you either a) develop a native method for resolving this search and just invoke it from your current java class or b) use Runtime.exec to invoke a native OS command for searching the file (like grep or find) and parse the results. ....
    I'm not even sure how I would complete that task with java exclusivly ... maybe break the file into smaller parts, then iterate through each smaller, temporary file ... I would really recomend storing your data in a different format if possible. A 3 GB text file just isn't very partical or secure.
    ... oh, to answer your original question (which I'm not sure if I all ready did), the fatest way to load the file is to wrap it into some BufferedReader. The fatest way to perform String searches is through the java.util.regex package if you have access to the 1.4 API. Other wise, just use basic String searches, as you all ready are.

    script that automatically deletes any files over X amount of days.  My next step is to have an exceptions text that will have a list of folders that should not have its contents deleted.  This is what I have so far.
    $Date= Get-Date
    $Days = "7"
    $Folder = "C:\publicftp\users"
    $LastWrite = $Now.AddDays(-$Days)
    #----- getting DO NOT DELETE listing from TXT ----#
    $Exceptions = Get-Content "c:\exclude.txt"
    $Files = Get-Childitem $Folder -Recurse -Exclude "c:\exclude.txt" | Where {$_.LastWriteTime -le "$LastWrite"}
    foreach ($File in $Files)
        if ($File -ne $NULL)
            Remove-Item $File.FullName -Exclude $Exceptions | out-null
    I've seen a lot of threads that show how to auto delete contents or how to exclude specific file types but I haven't seen an answer to my particular problem.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

    Hi Rabbot,
    The script below may be also helpful for you, and uses the -whatif parameter in Remove-Item cmdlet, which doesn’t actually remove anything but simply tells you what would happen if you did call Remove-Item.
    $Exceptions = @()
    Get-Content "c:\exclude.txt" | foreach{
    $Exceptions += $_} #store the exception file to array
    $Folder = "C:\publicftp\users"
    $LastWrite = (get-date).adddays(-7) #over 7 days.
    $Files = Get-Childitem $Folder -Recurse | Where {$_.LastWriteTime -le $LastWrite} #filter files which over 7 days.
    Foreach ($file in $files){
    if ($Exceptions -notcontains $file.fullname){ #if the file is not listed in the exception array.
    Remove-Item $File.FullName -whatif} #use -whatif to test
    I hope this helps.

  • Retrieving .txt file from jar for an applet

    I guess this is a newbie question but i checked the tutorial sessions and i am doing exactly what it says there but still...no luck:
    I'm trying to access a .txt. file stored in the .jar file where my applet .class file is stored. I'm using:
    String s = "myfile.txt";
    // get current Class loader
    ClassLoader cl = this.getClass().getClassLoader();
    FileInputStream is = new FileInputStream((cl.getResource(s)).toString());
    BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(is));But when the applet is viewer from the browser or from the appletviewer, i'm getting the FileNotFoundException:
    java.io.FileNotFoundException: jar:file:\C:\FeatureSelection\sFeatureSelection.jar!\myfile.txt (The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect)
    I tried to use the following instead:
    FileInputStream is = new FileInputStream((myApplet.class.getResource(s)).toString());orFileInputStream is = new FileInputStream((getClass().getResource(s)).toString());but the same exception is still there.
    The jar file and the html file are all stored in this directory C:\FeatureSelection\
    The signed jar file is called sFeatureSelection.jar
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks.

    One way to get at files in a jar is to put the jar in the CLASSPATH and then just refer to the resource by its path in the jar. If the same path occurs in two different jars, then you only get the first one, based on the order of the jars in CLASSPATH, I think.
    The classloader is involved, which can be confusing, but an easy way to try this is:
    String s = "myfile.txt";
    URL u = this.class.getClassLoader().getResource(s);
    Object o = u.getContent();Now, you only really know that something matched that path and now it is in a URL.
    I think the Object will be a stream and you have to read() it or something.
    BTW: I encourage you to examine the URL, but it is not necessary to do so.
    If you have somehitng like a GIF image, then here is an example of how to work with that:

    Here is a way to get the bytes without involved the ClassLoader:

    Take your pick.
