Caching WSDL, generating strongly typed web service classes

Hi All,
I come from an ASP.NET background. Visual Studio provides a
great tool for generating proxy classes based on a WSDL XML
document. What's so great about this is that you are able to have
strongly type classes (with intellisense in the IDE), compile time
type checking, and so forth.
What this means is that if I have a web service that defines
the method getColors, and takes two parameters; let's say an
enumerated type, "primary" or "secondary" for the first parameter,
and "hex" or "english" for the second parameter (also an enumerated
type), Visual Studio will generate a proxy class for me that will
give me type hinting. I'll see that the "getColors" method takes
two parameters, and it will even show the the possible values for
the enumerated type.
Is there anything like this in Flex?
-Josh

Hi Josh,
Flex Builder 3 includes the "Import Web Service (WSDL)"
wizard which is a tool that will generate proxy classes from a WSDL
file. This tool is included in the latest engineering drop, but is
not available in the latest beta build. You can access it via
File>Import>Flex>Import Web Service (WSDL) or by accessing
the Data>Import Web Service (WSDL)... menu option.
Plus, using the web services manager tool (accessible via
Data>Manage Web Services...) you can generate proxy classes for
more than one WSDL file by adding more WSDLs to your project,
remove the generated classes by deleting the WSDL from your project
or regenerate the proxy classes by using the Update option.
Using the proxy classes you benefit from code hinting of
operations the web service exposes, code hinting on the operation
parameters and their types, you get strongly typed results and
more.
Give these tools a try. We will appreciate any feedback
you'll provide.

  • Calculations in Xcelsius using data generated by a Web Service Connection

    Hi,
    I have set up a web service connection to pull in 4 columns of data: 1. CATEGORY  2. SUBCATEGORY 3. PRODUCT TYPE   4.#OFCALLS.  There will be anywhere from 1 to 500 rows of data depending on day of week and time of day.  The web service sorts the list by #OFCALLS descending. The OUTPUT VALUES of the web service connection are mapped to cells A19:D518.
    Formulas in the spreadsheet take the Top 10 from the list and populate it to cells  A4:D13.  A formula in cell D15 sums the #OFCALLS for the entire web service connection output (A19:D518).
    The data in A4:D15 is mapped to a spreadsheet table on my canvas.   When the report generates, the data from the TOP 10 of the web service connection populates properly, but the cell that should reflect the TOTAL#OFCALLS (D15) shows zero.
    Is it not possible to do additional calculations in the spreadsheet based on data generated by the web service connection?  A major difference between using an XML Map and a Web Service Connection is the XML Map actually populates the spreadsheet with the new data when it is refreshed.  The Web Service connection data never actually appears in the spreadsheet itself, even though it updates to the appropriate vessel on the canvas.   This makes me think that no additional calculations can be done in the spreadsheet based on the web service connection data.
    Can anyone tell me if that is correct?  If so, then the web service connection would also have to pull in the TOTAL#OFCALLS along with the other data.   This would also seem to greatly limit what you could do with data generated by a web service connection, so I am hoping I am wrong and just don't understand how to do this.
    Can anyone clarify this for me?  If I failed to give any pertinent info let me know what it is, and I will update my post.
    Thanks!

    I have seen similar behavior as well.  I have live data coming into Xcelsius from a data connection.
    A supported Excel formula
    =IF(ISBLANK(J2),I2,VALUE(TODAY()-J2))
    is then applied to one of the columns to create an additional derived column.
    Taking a snapshot of the data shows that the derived column is being populated, however the controls I've tried hooking up to the derived column (charts and labels) are always empty.
    Information on whether this is supported would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    David

  • How to generate JAX-RPC web services instead of JAX-WS webservices withOEPE

    How to generate JAX-RPC web services instead of JAX-WS webservices withOEPE? I am asking this because I need to pass xmlbeans generated objects as arguments in the web method. For JAX-WS there has to be a no argument constructor for it to be able to pass in theweb method. The workshop 10.3 was able to pass the xmlbeans generated object as the web service was implemented as a JAX-RPC web service....

    Ok just as I expected. So I guess I am left with the following two options
    1) either I switched to using JAXB in my apps instaed of xmlbeans....
    2) or if I still wanna use the old JAX-RPC web services to deploy on the Weblogic 10gR3 server i will have to create my own ant task jwsc directly......as shown below in your docs
    Programming Web Services for WebLogic Server (ant tasks)
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs92/webserv/anttasks.html
    Getting Started With WebLogic Web Services Using JAX-RPC
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12840_01/wls/docs103/webserv_rpc/index.html
    Will OEPE be supporting the old JAX-RPC anytime in the near future release? or have to create own build ant task to call jwsc ant task directly to compile JAX-RPC web services??

  • Java stored proc from proxy Java classes generated from a web service?

    Hi gurus,
    I have searched "Java Stored Procedure" on this forum but could not find what I am looking for, so I have to post again.
    I need to use a web service and my client app is written in PowerBuilder 11 (Sybase), which claims that it will create a datawindow from a web service. Well, it turned out that PB can only handle simple stuff (it works with a very simple wsdl from the internet) but can't handle more complex ones that we need to use. So I am thinking about using Oracle JDeveloper(JDev) to create the web service proxy for the web service and then load it into Oracle as a Java stored procedure so that PowerBuilder can call the procedure. JDev succsfully generated the proxy and a few Java classes. My question is, do I need to load all the classes into the database? If yes, will the reference to the package work? For example, in a JDev generated class (the soap client class), it has package MyJdev.proxy; at the top. Or, will it work if I load all the classes included in package /MyJdev/proxy into the database?
    Thank you very much for any help.
    Ben

    For the java stored proc called from pl/sql, the example above that uses dynamic sql should word :
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE MyPackage AS
    TYPE Ref_Cursor_t IS REF CURSOR;
    FUNCTION get_good_ids RETURN VARCHAR2 ;
    FUNCTION get_plsql_table_A RETURN Ref_Cursor_t;
    END MyPackage;
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY MyPackage AS
    FUNCTION get_good_ids RETURN VARCHAR2
    AS LANGUAGE JAVA
    NAME 'MyServer.getGoodIds() return java.lang.String';
    FUNCTION get_plsql_table_A RETURN Ref_Cursor_t
    IS table_cursor Ref_Cursor_t;
    good_ids VARCHAR2(100);
    BEGIN
    good_ids := get_good_ids();
    OPEN table_cursor FOR 'SELECT id, name FROM TableA WHERE id IN ( ' | | good_ids | | ')';
    RETURN table_cursor;
    END;
    END MyPackage;
    public class MyServer{
    public static String getGoodIds() throws SQLException {
    return "1, 3, 6 ";
    null

  • Can I  load Java classes generated by the Web Service Proxy Wizard?

    Hi gurus,
    I am very new to Oracle JDeveloper and I have mainly used it to create and debug PL/SQL procedures. Thanks again, Bruce.
    What I meant by SOAPElement is that one genereated Java class has this and this class also has the setter for this like this,
    public void setSelection(javax.xml.soap.SOAPElement selection) {
    this.selection = selection;
    And here is the whole class,
    public class CaseSearchByPartyRequest implements java.io.Serializable {
    protected java.lang.String schemaVersion;
    protected java.util.Calendar messageProducedDateTime;
    protected javax.xml.soap.SOAPElement selection;
    protected Restriction restriction;
    public CaseSearchByPartyRequest() {
    public java.lang.String getSchemaVersion() {
    return schemaVersion;
    public void setSchemaVersion(java.lang.String schemaVersion) {
    this.schemaVersion = schemaVersion;
    public java.util.Calendar getMessageProducedDateTime() {
    return messageProducedDateTime;
    public void setMessageProducedDateTime(java.util.Calendar messageProducedDateTime) {
    this.messageProducedDateTime = messageProducedDateTime;
    public javax.xml.soap.SOAPElement getSelection() {
    return selection;
    public void setSelection(javax.xml.soap.SOAPElement selection) {
    this.selection = selection;
    public Restriction getRestriction() {
    return restriction;
    public void setRestriction(Restriction restriction) {
    this.restriction = restriction;
    this.selection is the request that I think I need. And here is the static main method of the soap client class genereated.
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    try {
    MyJdev.proxy.SoapClient myPort = new MyJdev.proxy.SoapClient();
    System.out.println("calling " + myPort.getEndpoint());
    // Add your own code here
    } catch (Exception ex) {
    ex.printStackTrace();
    So, if I need to send the request to the web service, do I need to create the request, correct? I have done it through AQ and Messaging Gateway and works fine by manually creating the request xml in PL/SQL, but now I need to get it to work sychronously from the UI. I believe that I need the request (SOAPElement) because that is the only way that I can supply the parameters. I have not see any setters for the parameters other than some setters for user name and password.
    Did I get something wrong here? If I don't supply the "selection", will JDev do it?
    Thanks.

  • Generating wsdl:fault with Oracle Web Services

    What conditions are required to have Oracle Web Services throw a defined wsdl:fault over a soap:fault? Is there documentation on how to map these correctly from your java code? I can't seem to find anything in the documenation that discusses this and when using the WebServiceAssembler to generate WSDLs including an exception in a method signature does nothing to generate a wsdl section in the generated portType.
    Any pointers are appreciated.

    Hi,
    If a method throws Exceptions that are not instances / subclasses of java.rmi.RemoteException, then it's not a SOAP Fault, but a wsdl:fault. This is the manner in which JAX-RPC handles the Exceptions.

  • What shall I do after generate .dll from web services

    Hi,
    After I have successfully generate the .net classes from the web services, I proceed to generate the .dll from the .net. After which, what shall I do?? How shall I uses those classes?? Can someone advises me (newbie)??
    Thanks alot!!

    A .dll is in the .NET world like a .jar in Java Land, a packaging unit (or assembly). It does have very little to do with Web Services.
    If you are starting with .NET and C# (or any other langague from the # collection), you should start by following some HowTo from Microsoft online documentation. The MSDN site seams a good place to start.
    To call a Web Service hosted on the .NET framework from Java, you will need to locate the Web Service interface definition; the WSDL resource. Once you have this information, the easiest way to get started would be to build a Web Service proxy from JDeveloper, if you are planning on using the Oracle tech stack.
    Hope it helps,
    -Eric

  • Can not open the WSDL in a Deployed web service

    I finished a JAXRPC based web service, packaged a war file and then using WSDEPLOY to produce a new war file. The new war file was deployed to Sun APP Server and everything seemed to be fine. But when I tried to open the url, the page displayed many question marks (not encoding problem, I tried many encodings but no change). The following is a copy from the browser (originally in a table, becomes mess here)
    Web ??
    MetSoapEndpoint ???
    ??? http://localhost:8080/MyWS/mysoap/MyWSEndpoint
    WSDL? http://localhost:8080/MyWS/mysoap/MyWSEndpoint?WSDL
    ?? QName? {http://www.agmodel.org/Schema/MyWS/2006/02/MyWSEndpoint}MyWSEndpointPort
    ????? net.agmodel.myws.mysoap.jaxrpc.MyWSEndpoint
    ???? net.agmodel.myws.mysoap.MyWSEndpoint_Impl
    ??? http://localhost:8080/MyWS/mysoap/MyWSEndpoint???
    And I tried to open the WSDL by clicking on the above WSDL address, but get the following error message:
    XML Parsing Error: no element found
    Location: http://localhost:8080/MyWS/mysoap/MyWSEndpoint?WSDL
    Line Number 1, Column 39:<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    I also tried to deploy the service to JBOSS 4.0.4, got exactly the same result.
    Anyone can help me?
    Thanks a lot.

    Nobody answered...
    May bcoz it was on AXIS2.... no issues guys..here is the solution
    Webservice technology is also based on Servlet based techology only
    so in AXIS2 webservice class, implement org.apache.axis2.engine.ServiceLifeCycle interface. You'll get 2 methods here -
    void startUp(ConfigurationContext arg0, AxisService arg1) and
    void shutDown(ConfigurationContext arg0, AxisService arg1)
    these are nothing but init() and destroy() of the servlet.
    Inside these methods u can get servlet context parameters by getAttribute(string) and initial parameters of the servlet by getInitParameter(string)

    Thanks
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
    One reason to have the SeiValidationException is when you do not follow the java bean convention for getter/setter or some of the public methods you want to expose are not throwing the right execption.
    Using the command line utility genProxy [or the ant task] with the debug flag may give you some informations about the WSDL constructs WSA do not understand. Look at the following how-to to get started:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/java/oc4j/1013/howtos/how-to-ws-bottomup/doc/how-to-ws-bottomup.html
    If this does not help, can you share your WSDL with us ?
    Thanks,
    Eric

  • Code generated from imported web service model does not compile

    I have created a model in Web Dynpro by importing a web service model using a valid WSDL, but the generated code won't compile because of type mismatches.
    The problem is that methods sometimes try to pass plain objects to methods whose parameter is an array of that object, and a List to methods whose parameter is a plain object.
    [Examples from SAP Netweaver tasks below]
    Thanks,
    Alastair

    The method setSessionData(EntInstType) in the type AssessRequestData is not applicable for the arguments (EntInstType[])

    ComplexType_AssessRequestData.java
    The method setResult(List) in the type Response_JrbrsRefGeneric_listGoals is not applicable for the arguments (EntType)

    Steps to recreate the problem:
    1. Create and Expose webservice method with a parameter whose type has a short[][] (or bidimensional array of anything) field (property).
    2. Try to import the web service in web dynpro... <b>kaputt</b> it won't compile.

  • Change default schemaLocation of wsdl when deploying a web service

    Hi,
    When I deploy a web service, and then view the schemaLocation attribute of the wsdl, it points to a file with the machine name and not the url for my server. I have tried changing in config files all of the instances that point to my machine name instead of my url. This has not changed what gets set for schemaLocation when I deploy the web service. I also tried creating a new virtual server but I am unsure what value to put for the hostName. I tried my url and that did not seem to work. Does anyone have any ideas of to change the value that gets written to schemaLocation attribute when deploying a web service?
    Could anyone point me to documentation for changing a domains' hostName or in other words, the url used to access it? I know when I point my browser to my server's url instead of the machine name for the admin console, things seem to work. But then I run into problems such as above, where certain urls do not get set properly.
    If there is a way to set this when installing Sun ONE AS through the wizard, please let me know because I have not added much to my install and could reinstall the software.
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hi disgruntled one,
    The same problem has plagued us a few times already, and I've finally found a solution that worked for me.
    Option 1 - requires redeployment of web services.
    1. In the admin console, navigate to Configuration -> HTTP service -> HTTP Listeners.
    2. Select the correct listener. In most cases this would be http-listener-1
    3. In the General Settings section, enter the correct name of your host in the Server Name field. This can be the corresponding name you have in a DNS for the host, or if you don't have a DNS entry, you can hard code it to the machine's IP address.
    4. Redeploy any web services for the changes to take effect. I've tried restarting the server but that doesn't seem to have an effect on the WSDL output.
    Option 2 - modify the generated WSDL file
    1. Look under the {you app server's path}\domains\domain1\generated\xml. You should find the generated WSDL file under this tree in their appropriate sub folders.
    2. Modify as you see fit.
    This method of course, needs to be redone for each time you redeploy the web services.
    Cheers,
    Fred

  • WSDL description for email Web service

    hi
    while creating an application for sending and receiving emails, i created an <b>Import Web Service Model</b> and selected WSDL source as <b>UDDI/URL</b>. Then i entered <b>http://www,abysal.com/soap/AbysalEmail.wsdl</b>
    but it can not be saved and gives the error  " <i>Invalid WSSDL or WSDl not found, please spcify different WSDL or check WSDL location entered on previous wizard page</i>"
    please help.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Try creating a web service of your own(out of a simple Java class or ejb) and check if it is working fine.
    If yes, then it might be the problem with the internet connection that you might be using. There might be some restriction in your connection that is preventing your system from creating the proxies related to the wsdl.
    If no, please let me know what the error is.

  • Problem when WSDL changes for a Web Service Reference

    Hi
    I have a Web Service Reference that is accessed by several reports and processes within APEX.
    The problem that I am experiencing is that, when the Web Service changes, as it has been doing quite often due to development, I can find no way of updating the Web Service Reference in order that the additional input and output parameters become available to the associated reports and processes. The only solution that I have found is to recreate the Web Service Reference going through the same wizard process and giving the Web Service Reference the same name as previously.
    However when the Web Service Reference has been recreated all reports and processes that accessed the old web service have blank values for source, input and output parameters. This means that I have to build the reports and processes again from scratch.
    Does anyone know of a better method of “refreshing” a web service in order to expose any new inputs or outputs defined with the WSDL without breaking existing functionality?
    Regards
    Ian

    Hi,
    My solution is simple: add new service reference, then new methods can be atached to the old service refernce with the followind block
    begin
    update WWV_FLOW_WS_OPERATIONS fo
    set
    FO.WS_ID = (select ws.ID from WWV_FLOW_SHARED_WEB_SERVICES ws where ws.FLOW_ID = 117 and ws.NAME= 'WebHINSSvc')
    where
    FO.NAME not in
    (select
    FOO.NAME
    from WWV_FLOW_WS_OPERATIONS foo
    where FOO.WS_ID = (select ws.ID from WWV_FLOW_SHARED_WEB_SERVICES ws where ws.FLOW_ID = 117 and ws.NAME= 'WebHINSSvc')
    and FO.WS_ID = (select ws.ID from WWV_FLOW_SHARED_WEB_SERVICES ws where ws.FLOW_ID = 117 and ws.NAME= 'WebHINSSvcNEW')
    delete from WWV_FLOW_SHARED_WEB_SERVICES ws where ws.FLOW_ID = 117 and ws.NAME= 'WebHINSSvcNEW';
    end;
    If you change only params it wont help. Ypu have to recreate the code that breaks again.
    I hope this helps.
