CAD desktop files export
Hello,
We have setup CAD desktop in our landscape for editing CAD documents both from SAP as well CAD environment. Now what we wanted to do is to share documents with our suppliers to help them plan for procurement of new materials(based on new products that we design in CAD). Searched for some standard solution,its not available. Is it possible to send it/export to DMS/cfolders?Share your inputs.
You can export an assembly from CAD desktop, including the linked materials and material BOMs, to a cFolders system. The system also exports all the originals linked to the document info records.
For more information, see SAP Note 828084. Export/Import from c-folders to DMS is also a functionality you may wish to explore to fulfil your requirements.

How do I export photos back onto a camera SD card? I have created desktop files for the photos and the card, dragged photos to the card, but when I replace card in camera, it says "No valid photo to display". No one can help you any more than has been done
Your camera is not a general purpuose photo display system - it is designed to take photos, let you look at those photos and allow you to download them to your computer or other places - if you wnat to use it view photos then you have to put the photos in exactly the correct place with exactly the correct names or it will not see them
And this has absolutely nothing to do with iPhoto in any way - iPhoto sotres and proecesses yoru photos and allows you to export them - once you export them it is totally out of the picture - you can easily get photo prints by using the iPhoto print service, using an internet print service, burning photos to a DVD and taking them to a print service or putting them on a SD card and taking them to a print service - to view them on your camera you have to exactly reporduce what the camera is looking for - not at all sure what the pirnt even is

Not able to use Export Option to Export a picture to a desktop file folder.
I am trying to use photoshop elements 6.0. After I have completed making the picture I crop the image, then go to File and want to Export it to a desktop file folder. I hit File, and although I see Export on the menu I am not able to activate it, because it is grey instead of black (whatever those colors are?). . I have recently upgraded my Dell 2400 computer to the max. 1 gig (whatever), installed a new floppy drive and it has never worked as well as it does now. There is plenty of memory. I have been using 5.0 for quite a few years with great success and was curious to see if 6.0 would be better. If I can not export with 6.0 as easily as with 5.0 I will just not go thru with the purchase of 6.0. I have only 3 days to make my mind up, so your assistance is needed. Thanks, Bob Alexander.
You don't want to export the photo, you want to save it (from the Editor).
Go to >File >Save As and specify whichever folder you want the image to go
into.

CAD Desktop - error while checking in and storing...
Hello SAP gurus',
We have one problem regarding the CAD Desktop functionality, and we believe that you could help us!
We are doing some tests with CAD-SAP Integration, and when we try to check in document in CAD Desktop, we receive the following error: "Error while checking in and storing c:\...".
Funny thing is that we can check in originals "manually" in SAP GUI when we open DIR, but when we try to check it in via CAD Desktop it is not possible.
In some previous posts I have seen that "hosts" file should be maintained properly, but what bothers me is that we are not using real content server yet (we are still in a test phase and we are checking in documents directly to SAP database).
Does anybody have some idea what could cause this problem?

For viewing the CAD files Content sever will support. The exact technical stuff I don't know.But as per the previous experience I am sure that if you install k-pro your purpose will get fulfilled. The content server feathures you can get and may know the reason.
But once you install a separate content server instead of the current storage system, your problem will get resolved.

Can't open a file exported from Quicken, in Appleworks 6.2.9 Spreadsheet:
n Quicken,
File Export gives 2 format choices - Plain Text; MS Excel.
choosing MS Excel results in file with .slk extension.
To open from desktop, Finder has no recommended applications.
from Choose Application, Appleworks 6 is not allowed.
TextEdit is allowed; produces a text file.
In Appleworks,
File Open, for SS type and All Available file formats, produces a listing
(like text file, not a SS); uses Textedit for some reason.
Open, for SS type and Excel Win 5 format, shows the .slk file available,
choosing Open causes Appleworks to quit; Try Again doesn't help.
Somehow, changed extension to .xls Appleworks still quits;

I don't have the option of exporting as other than a Quicken file type in Quicken 2005 that I can see. I'd suggest exporting as a plain text file. That should maintain the tabs between fields. You can then open it as a spreadsheet through the AppleWorks Open dialog or drag & drop the text file icon on a new, blank spreadsheet. -
Reduce File size on CAD DXF file opened in AI
CS3, Windows XP.
I get DXF CAD files from our Engineering Department. I open them in AI and save them as AI files. Then I place them in InDesign. Then I export a PDF for uploading to my website.
The problem is that every seam in the CAD drawing is 5 or 6 lines. Every screw head is shown. This makes for a large PDF file. There are several drawings in each manual so the PDF is sometimes over 20 meg. It also takes a while for the image to draw as you go from page to page.
Is there anyway (short of spending hours removing lines and screwheads in AI) to simplify the drawings from CAD? Does CS4 have any capabilities in this area?
JAGIf you have multiple identical (or, more likely, nearly identical) paths overlapping, you can probably eliminate that part of the problem with the export settings in the CAD program (which you don't specify). Look for settings to not include hidden lines (assuming you are exporting from flattend 3D models).
Most CAD programs have a collection of export options, and there are multiple "flavors" of DXF. Someone needs to know what they're doing on each end of the export/import workflow.
After getting a reasonable file into AI, try selecting all (excluding Text) and applying the Simplify command with curve accuracy set to 100%.
Once you get the details ironed out, consider recording an Action to automate the steps that work best. For example, I routinely import DXF files exported from CATIA models and the apply an Action that:
Selects all text objects.
Inverts the selection.
Ungroups.
Removes compound paths.
Simplifies paths.
Applies a uniform stroke weight with rounded end caps and joins.
Selects all.
Scales.
Selects all Text objects.
Sets font, size, and weight.
Deselects.
In a consistent workflow, importing the DXFs and doing most of the optimization (as much as it can be optimized) is pretty much a few clicks affair. Dealing with CAD files when you cannot control the export end (as when receiving them from multiple different vendors and softwares) is always a bit of a chore because of the variables.

Because I'm gone need to call an external program using some kind of server path, but to do this I need some information.
like e.g. I'll need a "classname" to call a certain specific path.

CAD - Desktop Monitoring Console
Hi All,
We are tried to monitor the CAD server using "CAD Desktop Monitoring Console" .
We configured the snmp community "public" & restart the snmp service as mentioned in the CAD installation guide.
I am getting the snmp timeout error while accessing the console.Please help on this.

if you look at page 139, it says how to configure Desktop Monitoring Console and only covers windows SNMP.

page 148 shows how to configure Desktop monitoring console, and there they have separately mentioned Cisco SNMP configuration.
so lets try to make it work with cisco SNMP. please follow this steps and see if it works.
1) on the both side of CAD server, got to Run and type mmc.exe if you are using 64 bit OS, you have to run mmc.exe /32
a console will pop up with console root
2) go to file --> add/remove snap-in
3)in the snap in click on ADD button and from list of snap ins add Cisco SNMP Agent Management.
once you add successfully, click ok and
now in your console root, you will be able to see Cisco SNMP managemnet agent.
4) explore agent by clicking + sign and under community names right click and go to properties
5) click add new community , under community name give public (case sensitive all small) and select SNMP version as v2c and access rights as read only.
6) go to CAD postinstall.exe and under SNMP configuration, add at least one trap destination.
7) restart Cisco SNMP management service.
open your browser and check if console is working or not. and rate post if helps.

Is there a tool out there that will layers from a smart pdf file and export them to a shapefile or cad-based file?
Because Illustrator is not a pdf editor you won't be able to open a pdf with his layers preserved without a extra plugin, Esko has a plugin that supports this and more.
Is you save a pdf as at least a 1.5 out off Illustrator, the Illustrator layers will be in the pdf. -
File Export, file size huge, burn to disc?
I am new at this and confused.
I created an Album in IPhoto which contains all 4,749 of my pictures. In the Info box at bottom left in IPhoto, its size is 8.4GB.
I exported this album to a folder on my Desktop using File>Export & choosing JPEG maximum quality, full size & include titles & keywords. When I check Get Info for that folder, its size is 22.62GB. That's nearly 4 times bigger. Can that be right?
I want to copy the folder on my Desktop to a CD or DVD . So if I have a DVD that says it can hold 4.7GB, I'm going to need 5 discs to copy the whole folder--?
I have Time Machine backing up my IMac but I wanted a copy of my pictures with their titles to be able to load on a Windows machine. Am I on the right path here?

One of my goals is to make a backup version of my pictures which are not tied to the IPhoto software--just in case someday I would need to load them into non Apple-friendly software--basically to have a copy of them in their original format, like they are on the memory cards they were taken with. I see that I can accomplish that by choosing KIND: Original.
However, I also want to be able to preserve all the titles I have given them. I had understood from an earlier post (probably from you) that most photo software would have the capacity of displaying the title files. Is there any combination of choices in the Export menu I can use to produce a copy of my pictures with quality as good as they were originally and keep my titles? I have done very little editing of my pictures so preserving changes is not an issue.

Update:
I tried again and got a partially rendered image on my desktop.
I selected 6 images and exported them, one of the six was partially rendered the other 5 were rendered fully. I found that one of the titles did not match the title of the thumb nail and the title that appears in the Information box in the side bar of iPhoto. This happens when I edit the title in the information box in the side bar. It appears that I have to edit the title from an original photo or export it then change the title and reimport the photo into iPhoto. When I reimported the photo then exported, the title was fixed but I got a partially rendered photo, I had to export it again replacing the photo on my desktop. Very strange I was able to export and entire album with 98 photos flawlessly but exporting a single photo or a small group I get at least one partially rendered photo.

Up until approx 2 months ago I could select video clips downloaded from my camera and e-mail them from Iphoto 9.4.3. This no longer works. I have tried dragging to my desktop and exporting to my desktop. I am not sure what has changed. Any ideas?
Simply, sharing video via email is not advisable.
Many email services have an attachment limit of 20mb and some a limit of 10mb. As emails are sent through an array of relays, the effective limit is the smallest file size allowed on any of the relays. That means that video is rarely suitable for emailing.
Then there's the whole issue of Codecs and not all machines will have the codecs to play all videos. Plus, folks with slower connections can find it very inconvenient to download large video files.
Finally, sharing video from iPhoto via email is not supported. All that gets you is the Movie thumbnail. If you feel you must share via email then you'll need to export the video first, and attach that. Use the File -> Export command and set the kind to Original.

Other than that your options include:
Upload it to a sharing site like YouTube or Vimeo and email a link - these will allow the recipient to view the material online. That will avoid the codec issues mentions, and the person can still download the video file if they wish.
Upload it to sharing services like Dropbox or YouSendIt and email a link. This will require that they download the material to their machines to view.

How to get desktop files to stay on the desktop
Please help. Desktop files keep disappearing from the desktop. So far, the only way that I can return them to the desktop is by a Restart. I can find the items in a folder labeled "Desktop" in User/(Name), but I can't find how to get them to return to the desktop proper, in a way that they stay there. Am I posting this in the wrong forum? This is my third try with no responses

On Finder Freeze/Relaunch All my desktop files & icons disappear
The title sums it up.
When ever my mac decides to go into spinning wheel mode and I have to force quit/relaunch finder, when I relaunch finder every desktop file & icon disappear.
At that point I'm forced to push the shutdown button on the tower and reboot, then all is well until the next time.
And the next time could be a day or a few days or a week. No rhyme or reason why.
Please help me solve this frustrating problem.

You may be better off seeing if turning off iCloud temporarily helps. This can especially be a problem with non-Apple routers whose firmware may not be up to date. Multitasking with backups can lead to corruption of your backups. Time Machine should only backup to hard drives twice the capacity of the original, otherwise it spends a lot of time trying to discover which archives to eraes to maintain room. Energy Saver can also create problems for backups, as it takes a moment for the Mac to recognize the connection. Use screen saver instead of Energy Saver when backing up. System Preferences lets you control both. Putting hard drives to sleep when backing up is ill advised. -
File - Export from Preview, iPhoto etc does not work
Lately, normal operations from OSX-programs are not working as expected on my MacBook Air mid-2013 running OSX 10.8.5. I can reproduce in PreView and iPhoto that operations like File, Export and File, Duplicate do not work - there is just no response.

Please help...Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):

The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select

from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:

Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
