CAD Desktop or Integrators ?

Is it recommended to go for CAD desktop or to go for Individual connectors for CAD integration for AutoCAD,Inventer,Solid Works,Solid Edge etc ?

CAD Desktop - error while checking in and storing...

Hello SAP gurus',
We have one problem regarding the CAD Desktop functionality, and we believe that you could help us!
We are doing some tests with CAD-SAP Integration, and when we try to check in document in CAD Desktop, we receive the following error: "Error while checking in and storing c:\...".
Funny thing is that we can check in originals "manually" in SAP GUI when we open DIR, but when we try to check it in via CAD Desktop it is not possible.
In some previous posts I have seen that "hosts" file should be maintained properly, but what bothers me is that we are not using real content server yet (we are still in a test phase and we are checking in documents directly to SAP database).
Does anybody have some idea what could cause this problem?

Hi,
For viewing the CAD files Content sever will support. The exact technical stuff I don't know.But as per the previous experience I am sure that if you install k-pro your purpose will get fulfilled. The content server feathures you can get and may know the reason.
But once you install a separate content server instead of the current storage system, your problem will get resolved.

Extend search in cad-desktop view document list

Hi,
is it possible to extend the search in the cad desktop's view DOCUMENT LIST?
when i click the button SEARCH i get to some kind of CV04N-Search. Is it possible to implement a new Tab? i want to search by a change service order and select all documents which are attached to the order's materials.

another approach would be to insert a new "search"-button to the menu in this view. but i found no way to clear the document list and insert new lines.

Customizing the CAD-Desktop

Hello Guru,
I just want to ask you, if it's possible to integrate a button on the CAD-Desktop or at least in the transaction mm02, cl02 ...
Because I'm gone need to call an external program using some kind of server path, but to do this I need some information.
like e.g. I'll need a "classname" to call a certain specific path.
ps. I hope that my explanations are sufficient.

Uses of cad desktop

Hi Gurus
Iam confused about the uses of cad desktop.
I think most of the functions like model/part checkin-out, dir creation, matl creation and bom creation are available in the cad interface itself.
So i want to know what are the additional advantages we can get with cad desktop apart from the above.

Testing CAD-Desktop interface with CAD-system

Hi,
does anybody know if it is possible to get a CAD-system for free to test the CAD-Desktop interface of SAP?
I am not a key CAD user, I just want to look how CAD Desktop works.

Fill the import paramenters
Execute it

CAD - Desktop Monitoring Console

Hi All,
We are tried to monitor the CAD server using "CAD Desktop Monitoring Console" .
We configured the snmp community "public" & restart the snmp service as mentioned in the CAD installation guide.
I am getting the snmp timeout error while accessing the console.Please help on this.

if you look at page 139, it says how to configure Desktop Monitoring Console and only covers windows SNMP.
but if you take a look at guide for CAD 10.0

page 148 shows how to configure Desktop monitoring console, and there they have separately mentioned Cisco SNMP configuration.
so lets try to make it work with cisco SNMP. please follow this steps and see if it works.
1) on the both side of CAD server, got to Run and type mmc.exe if you are using 64 bit OS, you have to run mmc.exe /32
a console will pop up with console root
2) go to file --> add/remove snap-in
3)in the snap in click on ADD button and from list of snap ins add Cisco SNMP Agent Management.
once you add successfully, click ok and
now in your console root, you will be able to see Cisco SNMP managemnet agent.
4) explore agent by clicking + sign and under community names right click and go to properties
5) click add new community , under community name give public (case sensitive all small) and select SNMP version as v2c and access rights as read only.
6) go to CAD postinstall.exe and under SNMP configuration, add at least one trap destination.
7) restart Cisco SNMP management service.
open your browser and check if console is working or not. and rate post if helps.

CAD Desktop Queries

Hi All,
Currently we are using CAD desktop alongwith DMS. We need to replace a selected component in the document based structure with a new component. We are trying to use the copy and replace option in the CAD view, but the new component selected is not getting loaded.Could anyone let know what else we need to do to get it going?

- In Customizing for CAD Desktop (CA-CAD) you have set the CDESK_REPLACE_COMPONENT (replace component) parameter.
- You are in the CAD view or the CAD worklist.

CAD desktop files export

Hello,
We have setup CAD desktop in our landscape for editing CAD documents both from SAP as well CAD environment. Now what we wanted to do is to share documents with our suppliers to help them plan for procurement of new materials(based on new products that we design in CAD). Searched for some standard solution,its not available. Is it possible to send it/export to DMS/cfolders?Share your inputs.

You can export an assembly from CAD desktop, including the linked materials and material BOMs, to a cFolders system. The system also exports all the originals linked to the document info records.
For more information, see SAP Note 828084. Export/Import from c-folders to DMS is also a functionality you may wish to explore to fulfil your requirements.

Concepts Management in CAD DESKTOP

Hi friends,
I have a question concerning NPDI for which I am trying to find solution in SAP. Scenario is:
Initially design team works on 3 concepts in CAD and checks into SAP PLM through CAD Desktop so that reviewer and approver team checks out data from central content server. DIRu2019s were created before check in and say one concept assembly has 10 parts then approx some 20-25 components(assuming some parts in common) have been checked in . This will result in 20-25 DIRu2019s.
One concept is finalized by review/approver team and at this stage; Part numbers are assigned to the assembly and its parts. I will rename the assembly and parts as per the numbers generated from the Number Generation System (External to SAP) and continue with the frozen concept for detail designing.
We have selected only one concept out of 3 and this has resulted in consumption of say some 10-15 DIRu2019s extra DIR numbers which are not been used and are waste now. If this continuous in all new developments, lots of DIR numbers are consumed which are not being used.
Can any solution in SAP address this scenario? I have to check in all concepts so that review team will look into it but I donu2019t want DIR to get generated and I guess this is not possible.

Hello Sudarshan,
Its perfectly okay to create DIR's for all the parts and designs from the 3 different concepts. The key here is that you are saving all the ideas generated in the concept phase and not only the approved idea. This is a good practice as all the hardwork and equally good ideas that made it to review phase are being saved and can be useful for historic purposes or in future if you want to revisit the unapproved ideas and improvise them you still have them safely stored in your DIR. DIR numbers are expendable but not the hardwork and other great ideas (though these didn't make it to final design)
You number range should be in the order of 6-7 digits.

Spro Settings for CAD Desktop

Can you please guide me what spro settings needs to be done for implementing CAD Desktop. I have gone through the SAP Library notes but still confused regarding the IMPLICATIONS of the fields under CAD Systems in spro like Group Maintenance, Applications, Parameters etc.. What are their implications and what settings need to be done?

Hi,
for CAD Integration you also need the plug-ins for the CAD Systems. In the installation-guides for the plug-ins you also find the required settings for the CDESK customizing. In addition a lot of information - especially about the parameters - can be found in the notes (service.sap.com/notes).

CAD desktop license username and password

Hi
I am trying to generate licencse for CAD -IPCC Enterprize 6.0 using the url given in CAD installation guide.

when the login/password windows pops up it does not accept my CCO ID username/password.
Now I have a doubt if CCO user ID should be used to generate the CAD license.
Could I get some help on this .
