Cairo-compmgr preferences wont appear

I am running xfce4 with openbox as my WM and cairo-compmgr for compositing. To enable cairo-compmgr i have it in my ~/.config/openbox/autostart file as
cairo-compmgr &
Compositing does work, but there is no icon in the xfce4 panel's system tray. The only way i get the icon to appear is by going into the menu and selecing "Cairo Composite Manager." I then attempt to edit the preferences by right clicking and clicking on "prefrences" but the window opens for a split second the dissappears.
Any idea why this happens? I have also tried loading cairo-compmgr by putting "cairo-compmgr &" right after "exec ck-launch-session startxfce4" in my ~/.xinitrc
When done this way, compositing is also enabled, but the icon doesn't appear at all, even when I select it in my applications menu.

Try the proprietary Nvidia driver if you use Nouveau and vice-versa (Nouveau if you use the proprietary driver).
Also, it could be because you didn't disable the compositing effects from Xfce.

Not affected by the bug. With or without background, no transparency.
Plus the bug appears in compiz, which is fully operationnal on me, even for transparency.
And there's no reason for other application, like xterm, to have the same problem
I tested with the patch, but no change.
Tryied on fluxbox too. Didn't work
I wonder if it comes from my drivers or my xorg configuration... anything like this...

System Preferences wont work/open

Apple Product : MacBook
Version 10.6.8
Heres my problem :
The System Preferences wont open at all. I already tried clicking on " > System Preferences" and that doesn't work. Resetting my computer doesn't seem to work either. I've also tried looking it up in Spotlight, but that didn't work either. The Application disappeared off of my Dock as well. The same thing happend to my Terminal Application. If I try and change something that originally was in the System Preferences (Such as Dock or Display or Parental Controls) it brings up stuff like "prefPane". "_CodeSignature" and "CodeResources" also pop up also. Advice? Suggestions?

The first and easiest test to try is to see if the issue affects a different user account on your Mac. Each user account has customized preferences and other items stored in its home directory. You'll first need to create an additional user if one does not already exist (follow steps a-h below). Then, log out of the current user and test the issue in the new user account. If this resolves the issue, there may be an issue with a file in the home directory of the original user account.
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
From the View menu, choose Accounts (or choose Users if using Mac OS X v10.2 or earlier).
Click "+" (or click New User if using Mac OS X v10.2 or earlier).
Give the new user a name and short name.
Mac OS X v10.3 or earlier only: Click the Password tab, and give the user a password

Cairo-Compmgr Annoying Bug

I recently(today) installed cairo-compmgr to enhance my openbox experience. Some minor errors and such occurred(mainly graphical anomalies) however there is a rather annoying bug that occurs when I affect the desktop(where the background appears). For example I would close thunar with it as my only open window, after it closes there is a square in the middle of my screen that shows the contents of the now closed window. When I right click the image disappears. Also if i hover my mouse over a window in my panel(tint2) the little box displaying information is stuck on the screen, until I affect it in come way. It's not a major issue but I figure that if I'm going to use a program to enhance my graphics its redundant to have graphical issues. Any help would be much appreciated.

I have this same problem with Openbox + cairo-compmgr-git and when I close Firefox. I have Intel integrated graphics with an empty xorg.conf

Openbox cairo-compmgr or xcompmgr, no "real" compositing

Hi everyone,
I apologize in advance for my bad inglish.
I just baught an old thinkpad x61, equiped with an intel GMA965 chip and an intel X3100 GPU.
At first, I installed xfce with compiz-fusion. Everything worked perfectly, my terminals had a real transparency, nothing wrong.
I decided to switch to openbox with xcompmgr or cairo-compmgr. But when I launched either of these, compositing didn't works. It's was copying the wallpaper into the terminal background. Like an image. There was no real transparency, I couldn't see window behind the terminal.
I tested again on my XFCE session with fusion-icon configured to take openbox. When I launched xcompmgr or cairo-compmgr, it worked perfectly.
Any Idea ?

GoLive running but wont appear on screen problem

I have a weird problem running Adobe GoLive (version 8) on Windows 7 - the program runs but wont appear on screen. I don't get this issue with any other
program and until this happened a few days ago the program worked fine on Windows 7.
When it's started, the 'title box' with logo and version number etc appears on screen and the icon appears on the taskbar, but no program appears on
screen. It doesn't matter how many times I click on this, it wont appear on screen.   If I hit Alt-Ctrl-Del and bring up Task Manager I can see it's
running in the Applications tab and I can also see it's process running on the processes tab too.
I thought maybe it had gone 'off screen' so I used all the Windows 7 tips on how to bring progs back on screen but nothing works. Interestingly, when I hover
over it's icon on the taskbar, and hold shift whilst clicking it to try to bring up the old-style maximise and minimise options, nothing appears -
although this works with every other application.
I use two screens, so I tried changing the display to use just one - makes no difference.
I then uninstalled GoLive, rebooted and installed it again - makes no difference.
Any idea why this would happen?

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
     User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
     User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.

3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

just wanna share and need to solve this problem,,
I had this problem since yesterday, whenever I open my safari, it wont appeared properly, just a blank white faces,,
what is wrong?
I dont get any crash report tho, I just quit the application and that's it, no error or whatever reports,,
anybody could help this..?
Oh yeah, been using shapeshifter since 3 days ago, is there any effect for this?

What if anything have you tried to troubleshoot the blank window?
Are you using "Blank" in Safari preferefences-< General tab, as the previous poster suggested if so try their recommendation.
Please try Safari in a other user or "Test" account, to create one:
Under the Blue Apple go > System Preferences /Accounts/ Login Options use the [+] to create one, for ease you could enter test in all the fields.
You may later remove the test account by highlighting it and click on the minus[-], I keep one handy for troubleshooting; )
This will help us determine if there is an issue with your user account only or a system wide problem& how to best proceed.

Ipod icon wont appear on lower right hand side to transfer songs to shuffle

why is it that the ipod icon wont appear on the lower right hand side of itunes to transfer songs to shuffle?
the icon for the ipod shuffle is there but i dont have the icon that transfers the songs to the shuffle 512mb. how do i get my songs on there?

How did you wind up without a User's Guide? Or avoid finding out that you can download a complete copy of it from the Support spaces at Apple?
The little icon you're describing is the one for iPod Preferences and has nothing at all to do with transferring songs. It won't show up, however, unless and until the iPS is mounted and visible by iTunes. Not seeing it appear there means your Shuffle isn't mounted.
As for the rest, sorry .... don't have a clue what you might mean. Using vague terms like '...this thing ...' and ' .... on there ...' doesn't really do much but lead to more questions which, in any event, I'm not asking.
Get a copy of the User's Guide, read it, then post back (if you still need to) with specific questions.

Jpegs wont appear- even after 10.47 combo updater

Ive read the forums- yet still no answer- so please help (thanks in advance) OK like many before me- Jpegs wont appear in safari after the 10.46 upgrade- yes "display images" is clicked in the preferences- I just did the 10.47 updater- rebooted- still no jpegs in safari- looked in user library/preferences- surprised not to find any "com.apple.safari.plist" pref at all. Is that weird?- Not having any Jpegs is getting old fellas- can someone give a Star Trek fan a hand? Scotty where r u?

Flash animation wont appear in my web site?

Hi,
I have created a flash animation to put ion my website that I'm building using dreamweaver. When I preview it the animation appears and works fine, but when I upload it and go to my site then the animation doesn't even appear on the page. No its not spam I'm doing a dramweaver course and its for my final project. Im using a free webhost thats why its got the host22 on the end. Goto http://www.mywarhammersite.host22.com/ Click on the weapons page and then click on the pics. The animation wont appear on the page, but it will if I preview it through dreamweaver.

I know the songs are still on my Ipod, but they wont appear.

i know that i have my songs loaded on my ipod, because there is only 8 gigs left out of 19 some-odd gigs, but none of the playlists nor the songs show up on the ipod or itunes. my photos are still on, ive installed the ipod updater and new version of itunes, but the songs still wont appear. i dont want to have to delete everything off my ipod because i have songs from other computers on my ipod that i wouldnt be able to get back. any suggestions on what to do?
ps. ive tried this on both a mac and pc. the problem occurred after i loaded my ipod onto a mac, it would play the songs off the ipod, but when i dissconnected the ipod none of the songs appeared.

You can try to restore your iPod... But before you do that you should get a 3rd party program like Yamipod to copy everything off of your iPod onto your computer so you wont have to worry about losing music/videos again!

They are obviously off the screen somewhere. Did you have a dual monitor set up at one time? You can try increasing the resolution of your screen to see if you can get a part to show or maybe just resrt the preferences (Cmd(Ctrl)+Opt(Alt)+Shift as you restart AI) to reset the defaults.

Openbox - Conky stays on top due to Cairo Compmgr

My conky stays on top due to Cairo Compmgr. I know that cause when I disable Cairo Compmgr, Conky runs without problems.

I'm using xcompmgr which seems to be much faster than cairo-compmgr and I don't t have this problem.

Cairo-compmgr + Openbox + xf86-video-intel + mouse clicks issue

When I start cairo-compmgr with Software Rendering, I face issue of clikable items not being highlighted when I hover mouse over them.
Also, I have the issue of first item being selected automatically when I right click on certain apps.
Is there anything I can do about it?

I thought there might be some quirk in an xorg.conf or something, but 1) I am pretty sure that running Nouveau neither generates nor requires one, and 2) I cannot see Cairo-compmgr altering or creating an xorg.conf.
