Cairo-Dock background

Howdie,
I got Cairo-dock up and running. Now, regardless of what theme I use, when I mouseover any of the icons and the zoom up I get a black frame around the dock.. THAT is not pretty..
Does anyone know what I can do about that?
I am using KDE4.2 on Arch-64bit and use an nvidia 7600GT using nvidia as the driver.

I would almost say no, but I did what the nvidia wiki here told me.
Thats mostly adding the composite section to xorg.conf.
But I cant activate any of the kde4 effects. That is, I can, but they dont show.
glxinfo | grep direct
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
direct rendering: Yes
GL_EXT_direct_state_access, GL_EXT_draw_range_elements, GL_EXT_fog_coord,
The error is supposed to be harmless, and rendering is activated.

  • Cairo-Dock bug: Two docks on restart

Before anyone redirects me to the wiki, I have already tried this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ca … re_running
I am running Arch with awesome WM and whenever I restart my WM (I'm not talking about rebooting the system) i get another dock and if i restart again i get another one on top of that. It's weird.... logging out and logging back in seems to solve the problem. Is there a way to fix this?
    Thanks in advance!

splippity wrote:yeah I experienced the same problem a solution I found was to grab the icon and drag it out of the dock. then let go and it will "poof" and be permanently removed.
That's done the trick. Thanks a billion for the trick.
Inxsible wrote:Or are you just trying to make it a bit fancier by using docks and such?
That's exactly it. Trying to put something together that's stylish and operable by someone who's never even heard about Linux. My Gnome, KDE, and LXDE desktops have proven successful already (have a number of customers who prefer them over the Windows machines).
The normal right-click Openbox menu is not obvious to someone who's never used *box before and .desktop menus are generally too ugly or too finicky to customise.
Now with cairo-dock, pypanel, and a nice background on a stylish LCD screen ... pretty cool.
    EDIT: embarrassing typo

  • Cairo-dock bar icons are not being displaying correctly

I have an intel HD4000 3rd generation (lvy bridge) and extra/xf86-video-intel 2.21.15-1 (xorg-drivers xorg) installed. My laptop is a i7-3630. When I launch cairo-dock using opengl the icons in the bar are not displayed until I move the mouse over and once displayed, the tooltips are not displayed correctly.  I mean, icons appear when the cursor passes over them. This is only happening in 3D panel and curve view. The rest of view, parabolic, static panel, etc... works perfectly.
isn't intel HD4000 compatible with opengl?
    Terminal output is:

I have tried what is stated here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … ion_method
but it does not work, using sna hardware acceleration instead of uxa:
    /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Intel Graphics"
    Driver "intel"
    Option "AccelMethod" "sna"
    EndSection
    If I launch cairo as:
    $ cairo-dock -c
    or
    $ env LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 cairo-dock -o
    then it works.
Also, it seems to be a bug, see here:

What are you using for your X compositing manager? I'm using OpenBox with LXDE components, so at the time I was using xcompmgr for compositing. I didn't have much success with either OpenGL or Cairo acceleration.
However, I recently switched to using Compton from the AUR as my compositing manager. With Compton everything about cairo-dock works flawlessly using OpenGL. You might give that a try and see if it helps.
Also, if you're on the most recent version of the Intel drivers SNA is now the default acceleration method, so you no longer need to manually enable it in your xorg.conf.d files.
I am using the default that comes with gnome3, mutter.

    extra/mutter-wayland 3.10.0.1-2

    extra/clutter-gst 2.0.8-1
    extra/clutter-gtk 1.4.4-4

Once I execute it from terminal by doing cairo-dock a lot of errors, the same as posted here in the previous post appear, and automatically advanced config view is opened. • Cairo-dock problem

when i uncheck the option "repeat image as a pattern to fill background" cairo-dock crashes and shows only the maintenance mode window. if i check the option cairo-dock runs perfect but my theme looks ugly. can anyone help?

    Hmmm...
Their site is in French. Perhaps try submitting a bug there with the aid of web translation?
There's also bug reporting here: http://developer.berlios.de/bugs/?group_id=8724
But they've never replied to a bug, so I doubt they know it exists...

  • Cairo-Dock crashed Xorg. Explanation?

Last visit: 2010-07-10 14:58:47 (last time I tried to install Arch I take it)
Good to be back. This time I installed arch no problem, got X working, got xfce4 working, no problem, everything worked. (except for NOOP). I installed Cairo-Dock. Fine. The next day it all went to hell. An Xorg stopped working. I tried removing cairo-dock, I tried everything, I uninstalled packages, reinstalled, I used the ARM packages, I even used the base command listed in the Pacman tips and tricks wiki page to remove all the packages and reinstall. Nothing. The log file gave me crap, and apparently all the "errors" that I showed, everyone here claimed were harmless errors, as a result of default kernel settings (maybe I'll compile my kernel eventually to get rid of those errors). Then X threw me a freaking bone. Something like "~/.config/xfce4/xinitrc error line 0: cairo-dock not found" And then I remembered. The Arch wiki said to create that file and add this to it:
    cairo-dock &
As soon as I removed it, I ran startx and immediately was booted into xfce4.
    All that for that damn line. I am so pissed I lost sleep over that damn line. >_<;
Can anyone give me an explanation as to why that thing broke my X? It never gave me that error until I reinstalled arch, and even then my config file is in "~/.xinitrc" not ~/.config
Everything is working fine now, I Just want to know why it killed everything. Thanks !

  • After sleeping my macbook pro 15.4" mid 2012 model for overnight and pass 24 hours time, on wake -- the dock background is white for a few seconds and then it turns back to normal color. . .

After sleeping MacBook Pro 15.4" mid 2012 model (running Mac OS X 10.10.2 Yosemite) for overnight and pass 24 hours time, upon wake from sleep-- the dock background is white for a few seconds and then it turns back to the normal color.
Is this normal? Should I be worried? Is my GPU defective?
    My specs:
MacBook Pro 15.4" Mid 2012 model, Ivy Bridge Quad core i7 2.3Ghz CPU w/ hyperthreading,
    16GB RAM, Nvidia 650M 512MB VRAM/Intel 4000 HD 1GB VRAM, 500GB HD
    Running Mac OSX 10.10.2 Yosemite.
    Thanks to all in advanced.

It doesn't happen all the time but sometimes and i tried zapping the PRAM and it still happens!

  • Cairo-dock weirdness

After one of the recent updates (I'm not sure which one, unfortunately), cairo-dock w/OpenGL no longer works for me.  When I open that program, it just brings up the cairo-dock settings window, and this is all I see running in ps:
    [agoree@sideswipe ~]# ps -ef | grep cair[o]
    agoree 895 1 0 08:02 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/python2 /usr/lib/cairo-dock/cairo-dock-unity-bridge
If I open cairo-dock w/out OpenGL, it works fine (and compositing also seems to work, and I don't see the usual black box around the dock like I'd expect when not using the OpenGL version).
Has anyone else noticed this behavior?
This is on my Zenbook UX31A (Intel graphics).
One thing that may or may not have caused this is the fact that I've downgraded my intel-dri & libgl packages due to issues with Intel & the 9.0.x versions of those packages (I'm on 8.0.4).

All the plugins seem to work more or less as long as the shortcuts plugin is unchecked. It still crashes every now an then. I removed cairo-dock and returned back to tint2.
Although this is not solved should I mark this topic as solved? Or should I just leave as it is?

  • Cairo-dock - no plugins were found

Everything worked fine up until the update I just did (the previous one was yesterday).
Now, cairo dock keeps displaying the message every few seconds
    No plugins were found.
They probide most of the functionalities.
There is almost no meaning in running the dock without them and it's probably due to a problem with installation(...)
It takes 1/8th of the screen in various locations and is quite annoying.
But apart form that CD seems to work as usual.
I reinstalled cairo-dock and cairo-dock-plug-ins-extras packages, but it did not help.

Yes. I had the same issue. Just Remove cairo-dock-plug-ins and install cairo-dock-plugins. Fixed it for me.

  • Cairo-dock 2.2.0

Updating with $yaourt -Syu --aur, I get a possible update:
    aur/cairo-dock-plug-ins 2.1.3-9 -> 2.2.0-4
Then, calling for its compilation, one of dependances "cairo-dock=2.2.0" has to be updated too.
but later on, it wants to re-install the current version "cairo-dock-2.1.3-9". The all update fails
Did I miss something? or is there a bug in the repo?

yaourt and other AUR helpers choke on these sort of packages (versioned deps upgraded in tandem). Use makepkg yourself with -Ud or some other method of force-installing.
And the AUR is a USER repository, so questions like these should go to the comments on the package.

  • Cairo-dock being spawned multiple times when clicking 'home' icon?

    Hi all,
Not sure if any other cairo-dock users experience this, sometimes another instance of cairo-dock will launch seemingly out of nowhere. I've seen this for a couple of weeks but never been able to correlate it with any particular thing I've been doing. The only way I realize is that when I've got my mouse moving over the dock there's my animated dock and another static copy behind (which isn't animated since it doesn't have focus). Quitting the first dock just leaves the 2nd fully functional one in its place.
    EDIT: mandog isolated the cause.

This was happening to me when I was using Xfce. I had cairo dock at autostart but it was also starting because of Xfce's weird session saving option.

  • Cairo-dock starts in "maintenance mode"

    Hi,
I've recently upgraded the cairo-dock, but since then it starts along with the <maintenance mode window>... When I try to close it, it reappears until the wifi connection settles down. I suspect that weather-dock is making troubles when it does not have connection to the internet.
I've looked through the cairo-dock options, and it has an option to force maintenance mode, but it does not have one to force disabling it unfortunately.
Anyone has any idea how to get rid of this?

probably an issue with your configuration. had this once, deleted my .config/cairo-doc ( at least i think thats where it was) folder and it worked again - with default settings.

  • Arch not compatible with Cairo Dock

As you can see in this topic: http://www.glx-dock.org/bg_topic.php?t= … mess_65929
it turns out using menu system in Cairo Dock on Arch is not possible due to Arch sporting newest Python 3 rather than 2.
Is there any workaround for it?
I do need this menu (be it Cardapio, Lancelot or Gnomenu) because (it's just one of the reasons) I have no other way of accessing logout/restart/shutdown/hibernate menu). I am using xfce and in right click menu there is no such option.
This is the only thing still keeping me on Windows.

You should not be bound to an app for this kind of basic functionality. The only thing you should do is create an app launcher and use the commands on this page ('The Modern Way'):
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Al … o_Shutdown
You can easily set a descriptive icon to that app launcher and you're set to go.
/EDIT: there are also apps in AUR that create a menu to click on
Is there any way I could add these to right-click XFCE menu?

  • Skippy-xd and cairo-dock ignore screen resolution in openbox

Hey, this is the first time I'm posting since I usually solve my problem using this forum and google but I this time they failed me.
I recently switched from gnome to openbox and in the process of making myself comfortable I installed first skippy-xd and then cairo-dock.
I had to set the screen resolution (1920x1080), which was too low in the beginning, using xrandr and while trying to solve my problem I also created "/etc/X11/xorg.conf-d/10-monitor.conf". Unfortunately skippy-xd seems to ignore the new resolution when I enter the window picker and I end up having the window overview only covering a part of my screen. First I thought that was a skippy-xd specific problem but after installing cairo-dock I noticed, that the dock got displayed at the bottom of the same "window" that skippy occupied. So I guess there has to be some underlying problem that causes both of these programs to ignore my set screen resolution and instead go with the one openbox assigned to me in the beginning.
The same configuration works flawless on my laptop. And I search google up and down in order to find a solution.
    Thanks in advance,
    meloxu

I saw your post, and had found it incredulous that you have a 1920x1080 display.  A bit of research and I found I was wrong.
So, it appears you are driving the panel at its native resolution.  Unfortunately, trying to determine what you mean by "Fuzzy" is probably going to be like trying to nail Jello to a tree.  But, let's give it a shot.  Is it fuzzy before you start X?  Are lines and shapes fuzzy? Or is it just text that is fuzzy?
If it is just fonts, it could be a problem with hinting.  Hinting is where the edges of fonts are deliberately fuzzed and feathered to get the kerning correct when the physical pixels of the display don't quite line up.  This works well, unless the thing doing the hinting does not understand the geometry of the display.  In a color LCD, each pixel is actually made up of smaller sub pixels, generally three -- A red, a green, and a blue.  Green is usually in the middle.  Some displays have Two greens per pixel, arranged RGBG.  Some displays even have yellow subpixels.  Sometimes the subpixels are arranged left to right, sometimes they are arranged top to bottom.  Long story short, if you have hinting enabled, but the geometry is configured incorrectly, bad things happen.   Take a look at this wiki article

  • Looking for a cairo-dock plugin/applet

Does anyone know where i can find/download the terminal/konsole plug-in/applet  for cairo-dock. It looks like a miniature version of the terminal, it's also fixed in place when it's executed. I've installed cairo-dock-plugins and cairo-dock-plug-ins-extras from the AUR, but it doesn't seem to be there. Thanks
Edit: I've also spent a while goggling and searching the cairo-dock site.

  • Cairo-dock - two issues

    Hi all,
I've really tried to fix these, but I feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall, so time to ask. Both problems have appeared recently.
    1. cairo-dock crashes on right click. No fuss, no bother, and no helpful output if I launch from a terminal, For info, the terminal reports:
    warning : (/build/cairo-dock/src/cairo-dock/src/cairo-dock.c:_cairo_dock_intercept_signal:180)
    Cairo-Dock has crashed (sig 11).
    It will be restarted now.
Feel free to report this bug on glx-dock.org to help improving the dock!
    info on the system :
    Linux Tex 3.17.0-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Oct 6 17:26:43 CEST 2014 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Couldn't guess if it was an applet's fault or not. It may have crashed inside the core or inside a thread
    restarting with 'cairo-dock'...
    2. The application menu's icons have gone nuts, being every size under the sun, from tiny to huge. I've had this before a long time ago, and have no idea how I fixed it.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Today's update fixes right click.
Now I just have the icon issue - and it's driving me nuts. I assumed it was a gtk issue, and indeed it does appear to be related to toolbar icons, but no matter how many "fixes" I try in gtk-2's gtkrc and gtk-3's settings.ini, I can't fix it
