  • Enable/select/change to Business rules from Calc Manager in App settings

    Hi all,
Somehow we are Unable to Expand the Planning Node in Essbase Administration Services (EAS) Console When Creating Business Rules. I am not sure is it
I am not sure, is it because of one of the application has calc settings as calc manager in under application settings in dev environment, but in other environment all applications set it as Business Rules.
I was trying to change from Calc Manager to Business rules in App settings, but it is grayed out and not able to change to Business rule from calc manager.
    Please suggest me.
    Thanks,

If it say been set incorrectly then you may need to update one of the relational tables for the application.
    Table - HSP_SYSTEMCFG
    Field - CALC_ENGINE_OPTIONS
    Values - 1=HBR, 2=CalcMgr
Restart the planning application web app service after making changes.

  • Error selecting oultine in Business Rules v11.1.1

    Hi Experts,
    essbase version: 11.1.1
I have created a new app in Essbase, and when I want to select this outline when I create a Business Rules, i receive this message:
Error connecting to Essbase server SERVER/DATABASE
    Detail:com/hyperion/cp/clients/util/UMCParser
    Any idea please?
    Thanks
Edited by: Remi Grossat on 26-ene-2009 7:22

    Hi,
Any time I have had trouble associating outlines with Business Rules with Essbase/Planning, it has been down to either :
    1. Services not started in correct order
    2. Security / Shared Services not in sync.
Your exact message doesn't look to familiar, but I would still check the above, in particular check that you have synched EAS with Shared Services. Eg Refresh Security , and also under business rules refresh user list.
One recent thing I saw with v11.1.1 is that we couldn't properly associate the BR with Essbase/Planning when logged in as admin, but could when using another Shared Services user, with the appropriate provisioning. I have not had a chance to investigated why.

    Hi
To select fileds in the datasource OCO_OM_CCA_9 , use the following steps
    1. in tcode RSA6 , find OCO_OM_CCA_9 , and click on change datasource.
    2. Deselct checkbox of "Hidden" and apply check on "Field Only" for  the fileds you want to see .
    3. Go to Datasource menu - click Generate
    4. go back and actiavate the datasource.

  • Rtp from Business rule to be passed as template parameter using Member Range DTP type

This is what I am trying to do. Use a template to define a part of the code and restrict the code from running for a particular Month. I have created a member range DTP and defined default values in it to exclude the one month I do not want.
I have set up the template in my rule as given below and basically the parameter that is to be passed is a runtime prompt (rtp_Month), which I have selected.
    %Template(name:="Test",application:="XXXX",plantype:="Plan1",dtps:=("StartMonth":=([[Period.{rtp_Month}]])))
Now when i run this, what will happen? Will the rule just skip the template part when rtp_month is the one i have excluded in the member range?
OR, is this not the way to do what i am intending. I see a 'restricted value' type, but not sure how to get it to work.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the reply Sree.
This is what I am trying to do.
    FIX ({rtp_StartMonth}:Aug)
        Calculations
      ENDFIX
    FIX(Sep)
    Calculations
    ENDFIX
Now, when rtp_Month is selected as Sep, the first block of code should not run. So the template I created has the first fix block like,
    FIX ([Startmonth]:Aug)
        Calculations
      ENDFIX
    So, final BR code:
    %Template(name:="Test",application:="XXXX",plantype:="Plan1",dtps:=("StartMonth":=([[Period.{rtp_Month}]])))
    FIX(Sep)
    Calculations
    ENDFIX
I am assuming: if i use the range DTP type and exclude 'sep' while defining the default values, the rule would bypass the template and run my second block of code.
    Is this assumption wrong?

  • Can we use Aliases instead of member name in Calc Manager

We migrated business rules to Calc Manager. After migration Calc Managers are not getting validated (stating the member is missing in the database). Later found out that in the script it has alias name instead of member name which was causing this error.
    example
    Member name = C001
    Alias = Texas
in the script it is mentioned Texas = 5; (this statement throws an error while validating, stating Texas is not present in the outline, even though Texas is present in the Alias table as an alias for C001).
Once I modify the script to C001 = 5; it gets validated without any issue.
Does this mean in Calc Manager we cannot use Aliases unlike business rules and Calc Scripts?
    Please advice.

The 'Defects Fixed' section of the release notes for 11.1.2 includes...
"Calculation scripts validate inconsistently in Essbase and Calculation Manager (8800397)."
    ...which is pretty broad!
Can you run the rules OK? If so, I'd just ignore the Calculation Manager validation message.

  • Business Rules Unavailable

I am unable to gain access to the CAPEX module predefined business rules. I've updated shared services allowing the selected user user rights to planning and business rules. However, they still do not show up in workspace.
For instance: I'm using Form 2: New asset requests. The documentation is as follows:
    ➤ To request asset purchases:
1 Open the data form 02. New Asset Requests (see “Logging On and Accessing Capital Expense Planning”
    on page 16).
2 Right-click an asset class, and select Add New asset.
If no assets exist, this message displays: “There are no valid rows of data for this data form.”
    a. Right-click the message.
    b. From the menu, select Add New Asset.
3 Enter details, such as asset class, description, number of requests (to plan for multiple asset requests of
the same value), Asset CAR#, priority, justification,
However, when I right click the message, "Add New Asset" doesn't appear. I have also noticed that the business rules are not populated under the form list on the left hand side of the workspace window. How can I gain access to these business rules?

    Hi,
Depending on the version, check whether the business rules are actually created. A set of business rules must be available either in Calc Manager or in Administration Services console, Business Rules section. Unlikely but if they are not there, something must have gone wrong during capex enablement.
The other likely possibility is the security issue obviously. Depending on the version check business rules security either from planning (Tools->Business Rules Security) or from EAS console (security tab in the business rule if I remember correctly).
    Cheers,
    Alp

  • Hyperion Planning business rules migrating to Calc Manager issue

It was suggested I post this in calc manager as well, so I hope cross posting is allowed!
We are trying to migrate from Hyperion Planning 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2.2
Our business rules were migrated to Calc Manager by our IT team. The rules run (for the most part).
Our main complaint about this migration is that it excluded our comments inside the business rules and added it's own!
When we first open the rule it is in graphical mode. But on the Script Tab I can see our orignal Business rule, but it's missing comments. Not all comments -- those at the top of the rule are intact, but after it starts getting into the meat of the rule, it loses many, but not all of the comments. When I chose to edit this rule in script mode, then calc manager adds tons if its own comments, making the code very junky to read.
So, multiple questions -- how do we get the migration of business rules to calc manager to stop losing our important comments. Is it possible to get the newly migrated rules to initially open in script mode rather than graphical mode so that it doesn't add it's own comments. Or is there a way to turn off the added commenting?
This is a snippet of our rule in 11.1.1.3:
    FIX ("D0P000 Pushdown")
    "Accrued Salaries and Wages Pushdown" = "BTL Accrued Sal & Wages Total"->"WBS_I19990_PLAN" * (D0P000->"Total Reg Labor" / "LMSS (LRP TEMPLATE LEVEL)"->"Total Reg Labor");
    ENDFIX
/* FIX on account members that should be rolled up in the AGG statement below. */
    FIX (@DESCENDANTS( "Orders"),
This is what it looks like when it comes up in graphical mode in Calc Mgr 11.1.2.2 (note that comment is already missing):
    FIX ("D0P000 Pushdown")
    "Accrued Salaries and Wages Pushdown" = "BTL Accrued Sal & Wages Total"->"WBS_I19990_PLAN" * (D0P000->"Total Reg Labor" / "LMSS (LRP TEMPLATE LEVEL)"->"Total Reg Labor");
    ENDFIX
    FIX (@DESCENDANTS( "Orders"),
This is what it looks like when it switches from graphical to script (bonus comments are added):
    FIX ( /*DIM:Entities*/"D0P000 Pushdown")
    /*STARTCOMPONENT:FORMULA*/
    "Accrued Salaries and Wages Pushdown" = "BTL Accrued Sal & Wages Total"->"WBS_I19990_PLAN" * (D0P000->"Total Reg Labor" / "LMSS (LRP TEMPLATE LEVEL)"->"Total Reg Labor");
    /*ENDCOMPONENT*/ ENDFIX
    FIX ( /*DIM:Accounts*/@DESCENDANTS( "Orders"),
    Thanks for any help.

You might learn to appreciate graphical mode in Calc Manager, we do. It is not like the old Business Rules in EAS. I am an old school calc script person, and have NO love for drag-and-drop coding ... I need control. ;-)
Insert a blank script object and paste your code into the 'Script' tab for that object. Set up your prompts and use the {} notation in your code. All of the comments will stay put ... as long as you DON'T USE EDIT, SCRIPT! We make a fair number of generic, reusable pieces of code and save them as shared scripts. These can be dragged into Rules. Click on the Rule's Begin object and choose the Script tab ... you will see how the bits are assembled into complete calc script. We've even come up with a way to use LOOP ... ENDLOOP as though it were a procedural IF statement so we can control whether or not a chunk of code is active or not.
Shared scripts are especially good for currency translation components since we occasionally add new currencies and want to make a change in one object that is used in dozens of business rules.

Is this 11.1.2.1 by any chance?
We had this as well, but resolved the issue with this KB:
Error: "Error connecting to Essbase server EssbaseCluster-1" When Trying to Connect Business Rules to Essbase [ID 1328483.1]
Modified 25-JUL-2011 Type PROBLEM Status PUBLISHED
    In this Document
    Symptoms
    Cause
    Solution
    References
    Applies to:
Hyperion Essbase - Version: 11.1.2.1.000 and later [Release: 11.1 and later ]
Information in this document applies to any platform.
    Symptoms
in version 11.1.2.1, after switching Essbase from using host name to a cluster name, in Essbase Administration Services (EAS) it is no longer possible to navigate lower than "EssbaseCluster-1" in the tree of Locations in Business Rules. The following error occurs:
"Error connecting to Essbase server EssbaseCluster-1".
This happens with both pre-existing and new business rules.
    Cause
This issue has been identified as unpublished BUG 11783671 - Unable To Select Outline For Essbase Rule If Essbase Cluster1 Is The Server
    Solution
    The current workaround is:
    1. Search for the file named 'essbase.properties' under %EAS_HOME%. Note that normally on a windows setup %EAS_HOME% points to the following path:
    ":\Oracle\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1\products\Essbase\eas"
If it does not exist, create a blank text file and name it 'essbase.properties' and place it under %EAS_HOME%\server\bin
    2. Open it in notepad and add the following setting to the beginning of the file:
    aps.resolver.urls=http://<APSSEVERNAME>:APSPORT/aps
    e.g aps.resolver.urls=http://server1:13080/aps
NOTE: The line is case sensitive
    3. Save the file and restart the EAS server.

  • Unable to open/edit Business rules v9.3

    Hello,
I am unable to open/edit existing business rules in v9.3 in the AAS console. I get an error message: Exception occured: Please check your log for details.
Business rules have been working without issues for months. I checked the easserver.log and it is getting a java.lang.nullpointerexception when I try to open/edit rules. I have done all the normal checks/updates: restarted services, rebooted servers, checked provisioning, refreshed security from shared services, refreshed planning to essbase, logged into Planning first, etc.
I believe the issue occured when a business rule was deleted which "may" have been included in a sequence. Since I cannot open any BRs or sequences I cannot validate that assumption.
Another side note, I can create a BR and attached it to a location, but once I save it I am unable to open it. I have started looking thru the tables in the AAS RDB but it "seems" ok.
    Any help would be appreciated!

    Hi,
I have not come across this sort of issue before, if you don't find a solution then as a final measure I would backup up the repository and export all the rules/macros/variables etc to xml.
Then I would first redeploy the web application server and see if that helps, if not I would reconfigure the database and drop it and then import the xml back in.
    Cheers

  • Business rules and calculation manager

    Hi ,
Could anyone pls tell me the difference between the calculation manager and business rules?

Calculation manager is a web component that is designed to manage business rules from a web interface. It is enabled to build calculations also using a graphic interface, although this mode is more suitable for simple calculations than for complex ones. Calculation manager allows you also to use complex templates that you can customize with prompts in order to adapt them to each rule without being force to change the code. Basically it is an evolution of the essbase business rules macro function. Once a business rule is created it has to be deployed in order to be used with planning applications. The deploy activity copies the rule on the database, both in the calculation manager tables in and the planning tables.
Business rules are instead essbase artifacts. They aren't available any more from version 11.1.2.2 on.
In versions older than the 11.1.2.2 you were forced to use calculation manager for epma applications, while essbase business rules were used in classic applications. In terms of calculations there is no difference between the two technologies, they behave exactly in the same way. There is only a small difference in the prompts syntax, {} in calculation manager and [] in essbase business rules.
Although i find the calculation manager web editor quite slow and imprecise to use, I anyway advice to use it in order to make eventual release upgrades easier.

  • Sub Procedures in Calc Manager- Differences

    Hi guys,
I was looking the scripts for the rules in Calc Manager and noticed that all set of rules are SubProcedures (even if they are included in the SubCalculate routine).
From the point of view of a traditional .rle file, what are the differences? Is there any changes when you use a subprocedure in the SubCalculate routine? As far as I know, there are no changes.
    Thank you!
    Regards,
    L.

Calc Manager is simply a user interface for HFM rule creation, and therefore the traditional main subroutines still apply:
    - Calculate
    - Translate
    - Consolidate
    - Dynamic
    - Input
    - NoInput
    - Allocate
    - Transaction
    - Equity Pick Up
Certainly when writing rules we can create further custom subroutines within the above main HFM subroutines, but Calc Manager does not alter this functionality at all.

  • LCM Business Rules Export using Utility.bat

    Hi All,
Wondering if anyone has any tips on using Utility.bat to export business rules.  I've defined a migration for business rules but it only exports one Business Rule to xml.  When executing the same migration definition from Shared Services, the business rules get exported to XML fine.
    We're running Planning 11.1.2.1.600.2.

    Hello  Ryan,
Want  to  Export  BR of  ESSBASE  (or) from  Calc manager .
If  Calc  manager then first  select  all the  Calc  manager  related  artifacts  through  migration definition, after  you  get  the  export XML file ,Create  a  import  migration XML  file  .
Now try  to  use  Utility.cmd  and  place  the  files  in  Utility.cmd  folder  only  and  import  all  calc  rules .

  • Business Rule Deployment Date & Time

    Hi All,
Can we know if a business rule is deployed or not, including the time and date for deployment?? This must be available in RDBMS i think.
Like i tried a query which selects all the Business Rules and display created , modified and moved date and time.
The issue is that the time provided by the result of query do not match if we access the same business rule through workspace --> calc manger--> specified application --> specified plan type--> and the rule name
    The query is
