Calculate Data Forms

Greetings,
I'm testing a data form with the default setting "calculate data forms" setting turned on and the same data form with it turned off. There is a significant difference in save time when the default setting is not included. I looked up the definition of what "calculate data forms" is doing, to calculate subtotals, but my data form does not have any subtotals that have been programmed into it, but does pull on dynamic calc members. Does anyone have an idea why there would be a difference, in some forms it is taking 10x longer. Not sure if this setting should ever be used in this scenario.

Joe,
I have never seen a "professional" Hyperion developer leave this feature on. Why would you let Planning try to figure out what needs to be calculated and then let it dynamically build a script under the covers? If your sub-totals are being calculated dynamically, then there's no need to use this feature. If they aren't, build a focused business rule and associate it with the save of the form. That way, you know exactly what is being calculated and how.
It's a bit like using CALC ALL. The feature is there . . . but in my opinion, it's a crutch for inexperienced resources.

    I am a little confused on how the default "Calculate Data Form" business rule works which is available when we create a new data form.
    When run, does it calculate the entire cube as in it works like - CALC ALL; ? Or does it just calculate the dimensions/members specific to the form. I always thought that it is specific calculation for the data form - which considers the selection that we have in our POV, Page and rows and columns and it doesn't calculate the entire cube. Please correct me if I am wrong.
    If anyone has any resourse that has more about it, please share the link or information. It will be a big help.

    So, if I understood it right you were telling me that it doesn't calculate the entire database, but it only calculates the subtotals for those specific member combinations that are there on the dataform and displays it on the form after the business rule is launched. Hope now I understood it right.
    Actually, I am running into an issue where I am just changing two cells on my dataform, then running the "Calculate Data Form" to see the totals changing accordingly but it is taking way too long than expected and also it is not rendering the right result. I am not sure what is causing this delay if it were only to calculate things specific to the data form and show the results.

  • Data Form - Logic to calculate "Year Total" Column

    Hi,
    I need some help with the logic for calculating one of the column values in our data form. I am not sure how to do this - should I write a member formula or something else. Please let me know your ideas on this issue and I would greatly appreciate if someone could guide me on how to write the logic for the same.
    Requirement:
    I have a column in the data forms called “Year Total” where I need to display a value which will be the sum (combination) of the actual values and forecasted values.
    We have in rows something called “Previous Forecast” and “Current Forecast” for which the Year Total values (in column) needs to be displayed and the user wants to be able to compare these two "Year Total" values and get a difference of the two.
    For example: For the month “Aug”
    1) Previous Forecast (Year Total) = Sum of Actuals (Jan to June) + Sum of Forecast values (July to Dec). (Here July is still a forecast value)
    2) Current Forecast (Year Total) = Sum of Actuals (Jan to July) + Sum of Current Forecast values (Aug to Dec). (Here July became Actual)

    Thank you so much for looking into my requirement and I appreciate your effort in guiding me with the logic. I will surely try your approach and see if it meets all my requirements.
    I think I understand your logic too. Just for your information the call on whether the data will be in the "Working" or "Final" version still needs to be made. It could possibly happen that the users are given the working version to work with and so we will have the version set to "Working" on our data form.
    There are somethings that are yet to be decided for sure. But for now, having this base idea of the logic from you is really helpful.
    Please don't mind about my questions as I am trying to know things better.
    1) Does the data for sure needs to be in the Final version? The reason I am asking this is since you said that if it's not in Final we can write a script to copy the data from Working to Final version.
    2) Why was it that you asked me to remove "Final" from the FIX and asked me to reference it for getting the Actual and the Forecast data?

  • Get cell value in Planning Data form and using it in a business rule

    Hi Everybody,
    if i set the data type of an Account Member as text, is there a way to get the value inserted by the user in a dataform, turning it as dimensional member and using it in a business rule?
    So, if the user insert the value "USA" in a cell, can i use any functions to tell essbase that "USA" is a dimensional member and then using it in a business rule, for example in a cross-dimension like Period1->FY12->USA?
    I tried to use the function @Member and it doesn't work, but i'm wondering if there is a way that can let me get the value inserted and use it just like a dimensional member. What are the ways that can let user input value that can be used in a business rule? I think one is by using SmartList, is there any other ways? Maybe using variables?? As an alternative i tried to use Prompt Variable but there are too many members on which the rule must run.
    Please help me, i wanna know if i can or not let the user input the member on which the rule must run...

    YesI could use SmartList even if i think it's very tough to handle. My experience on using SmartList in caclc script is not so good. I try to enter in details of my requirement:
    I have 500 account members.
    For each one, I have to calculate the monthly budget by sharing the amount among the months. The user wants to calculate it on the basis of the actual flow(over the months) of an unspecified account of the prior year. The unspecified account must be inserted in a data form.
    So, i could use a Smart List but it colud be of 500 elements and then i should make a rule with as many IF as how many are the accounts. Or im wrong? The only way to use smart list dynamically in a business rule is by referring its values in a IF condition. Or i'm wrong.
    I tried to use execution variable ma it seems don't work. In this case the user must pay attention to write the account correctly, otherwise as you say the rule doesn't work.
    The value in PD0A020 is "PD0A000" (that is a dimensional member). The value in PD0A000 is "hello". In PD0A040 the rule returns "PD0A000" and not "hello" as i would. The function @Member appears to be not able to catch the dimensional member by the value in PD0A000.

  • Execute SQLJ/JDBC within InfoBus Data Form???

    Is there a way to execute SQLJ or JDBC from within the InfoBus data forms without opening a new connection?
    Is there a way to execute SQLJ or JDBC via the Business Components using the connection already established in the InfoBus frame?
    Please post any samples if this can be done.

    The best way to do what you are asking is to create a custom method at the application module or view object level, export that to your client, then call the method from the form.
    Here is an example from a JSP Web Application. The basic idea is the same though.
    1. Double-click the appmoduleImpl.java file for your application module to open it in the code editor (expand the Application Module node to find this source file, if there is not one there, edit your app module, click on the Java tab, and check the Generate Java Files checkbox, click Finish and rebuild your project).
    2. Enter the code that you want to execute (I've included an example below that calls a stored PL/SQL procedure to calculate a value).
    3. Compile the file to make sure your code is OK.
    4. Edit the Application Module and click on the Client Methods tab. You should see your new method in the Available list.
    5. Shuttle the method to the Selected list.
    6. Click Finish and rebuild your project.
    7. From your Infobus client code, call the method you just wrote. You may need to include the package that contains the business components code.
    Note that when you export client methods from your BC4J project, you may need to include the stubs for these methods in your client project, depending on how you deploy your BC4J project. For example, if you deploy your BC4J app module as an EJB, the deployment process will generate the client stubs for these exported methods into a separate project (or you can specify to have them generated into your client project on the Remotable tab of the app module wizard). See the online docs for deployment for more information.

    Can you enter cumulative numeric rating data per response in colums on the Formcentral Data Form?
    In other words can you rate each responce numerically - have it add up per responce etc... - and then divide up the responces by the accumulated ratings ( All rated 5 ) (All rated 8) etc... ?

    Hi Brian
    The form is a grant application where the applicants are rated on their responses.
    The ratings are done after the answers are accumulated in the Formscentral contol panel. The ratings are done by 3 other project members (VPs).
    These ratings are in 3 catagories, each catagory is worth up to 5. The VP's will access the form central panel and rate each applicant per catagory.
    I have added 3 catagory colums with multiple choice rating selections from 1 to 5 for each of the 3 VP's for a total of 9 colums (3 x 3 catagories)
    The reason I did it this way is because at this point I would be relying on an Exel download to calculate the winner or/and also the top rated winners
    per the ratings that the 3 VP's put on them per catagory.

  • Error in visualizing a Data Form "WDEFGenerator.cpp"

    Hi,
    I have migrated an HFM application from version 4.01 SP2 to version 11.1.2.1
    Everything works fine appart from an error in visualizing a Data Form:
    In the previous version of HFM this error was not verified.
    If I disable the option SuppressNoDataRows I get no errors but I would like to keep this option enabled.
    Does anyone know what could be the problem?

  • Error when opening Data Form

    Hi All,
    Also I have tried by removing access for that user and opened the Dta Form but still it throwing me the same error:
    You are trying to open the data form, but cannot because all of the required dimensions are not present. Possible causes may be that you do not have access to at least one member of a required dimension, or the member selection resulted in no members present. Contact your administrator

    Here there are 2 things, once your epma heirarchy is ready did you deploy it against your planning App ? and incase if you haven't deployed your planning application, then old outline would be existing in Essbase and if you load data for old outline it will still take into but when you deploy the database gets restructured and older data gets restructured/removed.
    Before going onto that level first check if your load data to essbase completed successfully. and did you load data for the combinations on dataform ? ? Try manually inputting a number through data form and submit and do a refresh to see if value comes up. ? Check your data form settings , if you have enables suppress missing rows/blocks.

  • Security and/or filtering error in data form creation

    I am getting this error when I am trying to preview my data form.
    This is the first time I am creating an application and data form in Hyperion.
    The data form is multicurrency and plan type is Plan1.
    Row:

    Column:
    Year:Descendants(FY10)
    Period:Descendants(YearTotal)
    Page Dimension(s)
    Entity:Descendants(Entity)
    Scenario:Current
    Version:BU Version_1
    POV:
    Currency:USD
    Disabled all options in "Other options" and Not selected any business rukes.
    When selecting preview data form I am getting below error:
    Security and/or filtering has resulted in a required dimension not being represented on this data form
    I have not selected any security/filter settings as of now. Please suggest whats causing this.

    I did what you suggested,but I am still getting same error.
    Here I would like to point out that. I have selected my application to support multicurrency, but 'HSP_RATES' does not come in Dimension selection drop down. I can see 'HSP_RATES' in Performance settings tab, but I cant see it in Dimensions tab or Evaluation order tab.
    Is this causing problem? Should I add it manually?

    iam newbie to planning
    i have two different doubts in planning
    i have created a application in eas called "blue " in eas console and loaded the data and retrieved in excel , iam able to see the data . mean while i have created planning application called "gt" and its created sucessfully, i can able to "gt" see in the eas console . i wanted to get the data from "blue" in eas into planning "gt" dataforms i created a user called "blue" in shared services console , i decided to give the privilege to "blue" in eas , i clicked on the default application to blue application but was nt there ,but it showing separtely , i clicked on that and assigned roles like "administrator" and cube creator and planner
    my doubt is that
    1: when i logon "gt " planning application and created dataform folder i want to access the essbase application "blue" data, but there is no user available in that dataform
    iam confused whether i should give privileges to default application or "gt " i find both of them in shared services console
    clearly my doubt how to link eas "blue" with planning "gt " and datas form blue should be retrived in gt dataform

    Hi,
    I am not totally sure what you are trying to achieve but if you create an essbase application in EAS it is a totally seperate entity from a planning application, so you can't just access it directly.
    The are many options on what to do but it needs to be clearer why you have to access the data from a seperate database.
    If there is a commonality in the dimensions then it would have been possible to create an extra plan type when you created the planning application, this creates an extra database as part of the planning application.
    The other options are to use XREFs to access data from one to cube to another.
    Another option would to use partitions.
    You could extract the data from one cube using an export or DATAEXPORT command and then load it into your planning database or use ODI to extract from one database and load it into the other.

    Indeed, it is possible to link a web analysis report in a planning custom menu.
    Follow this procedure :
    - From the explorer :
    -> Go to the folder where your web analysis report is stored
    -> Right click on the document and left click on "properties"
    -> Copy the "smartCut" link
    - From your planning application :
    -> Edit the menu where you want to link your webanalysis report :
    -> Create a URL item and past the link in the input field

  • Data Forms takes a lot of time to open

    Hi,
    My Data Forms are having around 24 columns and some 150 rows, with multiple currencies. I have gone through the document 779502.1 for data form design considerations. But I cant split this form, have dense dimensions in rows and columns and rest in page and POV, not many dynamic members, have static dimensions in POV and hidden, no business rule running on save, and not much data in it as its still in development so not using suppress #missing. What are other ways to have data forms open faster? its not the IE , I tried opening with other browsers too. Please suggest

    What are your hardware specs ?
    Are you working from a remote environment ? If you are, activating HTTP compression will greatly reduce the time needed to open the forms.

  • Issue on the Data Form - Implied Sharing

    Hello,
    We have a data form on which the user can drill down till Level 0 Customer in rows to input data. The issue is for some customers when the user is trying to input the data at Level 0 Customer it is not saving the input number but was getting overridden with the parent value automatically. If the user was inputting at parent customer it was filling the same value to the level 0 customer too.
    When I checked in the outline...I noticed that these were the Customers that had only a single child and I am guessing that this is happening because of the implied share property. I am not sure if there could be any other reason for this to happen. If I am wrong please do correct me.
    Now I know if you change the property of the parent customer to Never Share it might resolve the issue.But the problem here is - there are a lot of such customers. And every month we do get new customers that could belong to the same case. It would be tough to manually go and change the property to Never Share for all those Customers and keep a track of it. It might be a maintenance issue.
    So are there any other solutions? Can we somehow resolve it? Please let me know your suggestions or ideas on what you think would be the best way to get this fixed.

    Yes you are right since both the parent and the children are set to store in our outline more blocks are being created.
    Taking the parent off the data form might not be the best solution as there are many such customers and in that case they might have to keep a track to not include such parents on the dataform specially while designing it..and also then its like some of the customers will show parent and children both and some only children in rows. I think they wouldnt like it and it might hurt consistency. But yes I will surely check on the option of turning on the Implied Sharing in the Essbase.cfg

  • Hyperion planning data form in smartview: problem with summary time period

    We are using Planning ver. 11.1.2.2.300.20 and smartview 11.1.2.2.300 (build 070)
    We use common Data Form:
    In columns: Periods (Descendants including YearTotal - with no checkbox on start expanded)
    In Rows :accounts
    In some of our users computers,
    When they open Data Form in Excel (with Smart View) - its appears very strange:
    Summary Accounts are displayed as level 0 account in the summary Period columns (i.e. not in grey) and permit entering data.
    In addition when Entering data in summary time period (i.e. Year or Quarter),
    strangely,  the data doesn't  spread to the descendants months (level 0) .
    This phenomenon occurs just in few of the computers.
    Please help, how can we overcome this problem?

    All computers have the same version of planning and smartview.
    The computers where the Periods spreading and aggregation properties in Data form are not working,
    do work wonderfully when opening the Data forms in the web.
    I've tried everything, (remove suppressing, validations etc.):
    In all kind of data forms the spreading and aggregation properties on summary time periods are not working in smartview -
    and summary accounts on rows are not displayed in grey and permit entering data.
    We remove and reinstall MS-Office (2007) from the problematic computers, but it didn't help.
    Do you know if there is any kind of settings or softwares that might cause this phenomenon
    i.e. interrupts the smartview translation of the web Data Forms.
