Calculating rowlength of oracle table

Experts,
Can you please let me know how to calculate rowlength for each table in oracle?

ALL_TABLES view
AVG_ROW_LEN*     NUMBER           Average length of a row in the table (in bytes)For more info:

  • Can you have a calculated column in a table not a view?

    We have a table which contains a series of rows
    Key   Effective Date   Value
    1       10/Feb/2006     123
    1       23/Oct/2006      456
    ...We have a requirement to store an indicator that tells us which row is the most current and what the end date of the preceding row was so that we get something along the lines of:
    Key   Effective Date   Value   Status         End Date
    1       10/Feb/2006     123      HISTORY    22/Oct/2006
    1       23/Oct/2006      456     CURRENT   NULL
    ...I can produce this result quite easily using the analytic function LEAD. My question is, is the answer to this problem to create a view over the table that includes the analytic function or is it possible to define a calculated column in a table that would populate/maintain this vale as part of a table definition?
    And as I finish writing this I feel I've answered my own question but hey, there's no harm in asking how others have handled this kind of situation.
    Cheers
    Richard

    My bias would be to create a view that did the calculation.
    In theory, you could add those additional columns to a table and maintain the data via a set of triggers, but that would be substantially more complicated than the alternatives for little or no benefit.
    A third option would be a materialized view. That might be easier to deal with if you want to have different indexing strategies for current and historical records or if the historical data is queried often enough and updated infrequently enough that it ends up being cheaper to do the calculation once during the update rather than every time the query is run.
    A fourth option would be to use stored procedures to maintain the data and have that stored procedure expire the current row and add the new row.
    Finally, you might consider version-enabling your table using Workspace Manager rather than writing your own code since Oracle has already written all this code for you.

  • Shrink Oracle Table after Deletion

    A few database tables are very big. An Oracle table still holds the disk space occupied by deleted records according to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6540546/oracle-10g-table-size-after-deletion-of-multiple-rows. Re: shrink table after delete teaches the following commands to release the idle space from the table.
    ALTER TABLE TABLE1 DEALLOCATE UNUSED;
    ALTER TABLE TABLE1 ENABLE ROW MOVEMENT;
    ALTER TABLE TABLE1 SHRINK SPACE;
    ALTER TABLE TABLE1 MOVE;
    1. Are the commands feasible?
    2. Are they safe?
    3. What will be the impacts of running the commands?
    4. Is there any other workable safe approach shrinking a table?

    Hi,
    I advise using shrink table operation.
    The tablespace which belong to your table must be in ASSM (Automatic segment space management) to use shrink.
    Shrink is safe but you need to run two commands :
    1)ALTER TABLE TABLE1 SHRINK SPACE COMPACT; (This is long operation which moves data, but can be done online)
    2)ALTER TABLE TABLE1 SHRINK SPACE; (this is quick if you run SHRINK SPACE COMPACT before, it only shift the High Water Mark. Be carreful if you don't run SHRINK SPACE COMPACT before your table will be locked for a long time)
    Another point, is that execution plans are calculed using the HWM so SHRINK the table (The 2nd command) will invalidate all the cursors in shared pool where the table is in. So execution plan need to be recalculated (often not a problem).

  • Oracle Table Recomendations

    Hello All,
    We have source data for prepaid system like voice calls, sms etc.
    Oracle database 10G is our target database.
    Average number of records for voice is 20 million and sms is having 10 million records per day.
    We have two options for loading data in oracle tables.
    1. Load the source data into separate tables like voice calls data into voice_calls partitioned(call_date)
    and sms data into sms_data table (also partitioned on date).
    2. Second way is that we load all calculated columns into one table.
    Columns like call_type(voice/sms),mobile_number,call_date,duration,balance_used etc
    Partition the table based on call_type and sub partitioned on call_date column
    And (if possible) further sub partition on call_dir i.e either incomingcall/outgoingcall
    And place the remaining columns from source data (which are not required for analysis) into separate tables.
    Benefit of adopting the second technique is that during analysis of revenue, we can get all information from one table and we don’t need to join multiple tables.
    Now my questions are:
    Is it feasible to create the calculated columns table having data from different sources as its size will increase apx 10GB per day or it is recommended to create different calculated tables?
    Which method will give us performance and retrieval benefits?
    Any performance issue while inserting/selecting data from such fact table with large data volume and sub partitions?
    Any problem during analyzing of such table?
    Thanks

    hi~

  • Best Practice to fetch SQL Server data and Insert into Oracle Tables

    Hello,
    I want to read sqlserver data everry half an hour and write into oracle tables ( in two different databases). What is the best practice for doing this?
    We do not have any database dblinks from oracle to sqlserver and vice versa.
    Any help is highly appreciable?
    Thanks

    Well, that's easy:
    use a TimerTask to do the following every half an hour:
    - open a connection to sql server
    - open two connections to the oracle databases
    - for each row you read from the sql server, do the inserts into the oracle databases
    - commit
    - close all connections

  • Insert /delete data from SAP Z table to Oracle table and opposite

    Hi,
    Can u help me write this FM from the SAP side?
    So, I have two tables ZTABLE in SAP and Oracle table ORAC.
    Let's put three columns in each of them, for example
    TEL1
    TEL2
    ADRESS
    NAME
    where TEL field is primary from ZTABLE to ORAC...
    (in FM there shoud be abap code for writing data in ZTABLE after we press some pushbutton made in sap screen painter..)
    for example, when we write new record in ZTABLE
    00
    112233
    Street 4
    Name1
    this data shoud be inserted in Oracle table ORAC.
    when we write new record in Oracle table for example
    01
    445566
    New Street
    Name2
    this data shoud be inserted in ZTABLE.
    Field TEL1 can be only of two values 01 or 02, other combination is not valid...
    I must have all data from Oracle table ORAC in ZTABLE and opposite.
    It should be the same scenario for DELETE...
    And this communication should be online between sap and table in oracle database...
    Can u help me from sap side? and give idea how to configure on oracle side??
    Thanks a lot,
    Nihad

    I dont know if we can directly connect to a oracle database ( wait for the answers from others on this )
    but in XI we have the JDBC adaptor to insert and retrieve data.
    so for the outbound from SAP the flow can be something like this (with XI in landscape):
    1) You have a screen to maintain a new entry / delete an entry
    2) On save , this record gets saved or deleted from the Ztable in SAP
    3)) In the same screen you can call a proxy class-method (generated using SPROXY transaction ) to send the record to XI.
    4) XI to format it and insert into the oracle table

    if i'm user and using an application and i want to upload data from excel to oracle table on button click . Is it possible by using sql loader.
    If yes then please clarify it .
    is it possible from client end.

    Yes it is possible using SQL*LDR, External tables and ORCL Export Utility. Though I didn't try Export Utility to load the external files.
    SQLLdr sysntax:
    Create a control file.
    It looks like this
    Load data
    Infile 'source.dat'
    Into Table tablename
    Fields terminated by ',' optionally enclosed by '"'
    {code}
    then use sqlldr command from your OS.
    {code}
    sqlldr userid/password@sid control = filename.ctl, data = source.dat, log = logname.log, bad = badname.log, discard = discardname.discard

  • Fields missing in Oracles tables created by Infospokes

    Hi S.A.P Gurus!
    My problem is as follows:
    We have created Infopokes with Oracle table as destination.
    Even though, the transport to other systems is correct, and the infospoke have all the fields, when we execute it, some fields are missing in the destination (oracle table), and they should appear.
    Does anyone know what we could do to avoid this problem?
    Thanks in advance!
    Kind regards.

    Hi Raul,
    Was just going through your thread ..and found that you were able to transfer the data to the oracle table.
    I am aslo working on infospoke where I have to transfer the data from my Infoobject to a table in Oracle.
    For that i have created a infospoke and executed it to get the data in the another tabel in sap.
    The problem is that  I dnt know how to move the data from this table in SAP to oracle table . Did u used any interface for this or any kind of ABAP programming that you have done.
    Please suggest how this can be implemented.
    I have open up a thread for this InfoSpokes InfoSpokes

    NO TABLEA.NO%type,
    v_record t_record;
    TYPE t_table IS TABLE OF v_record%TYPE;
    v_table t_table;
    -- Code to populate the values in v_table here.
    SELEC ID,NO, BULK COLLECT INTO <some other table variabes here> FROM TABLEA
    WHERE ID IN v_table(i).ID;
    I want to know how to use the values from Oracle Table Type in the Select Statement.

    Something like this:
    create or replace type t_record as  object (
    id number,
    no number
    CREATE or replace type t_table AS TABLE OF t_record;
    set serveroutput on
    declare
      v_table t_table := t_table();
      v_t1 t_table := t_table();
    begin
      v_table.extend(1);
      v_table(1).ID := 1;
      v_table(1).No := 10;
      v_table.extend(1);
      v_table(2).ID := 2;
      v_table(2).ID := 20;
      SELEC t_record (ID,NO) BULK COLLECT INTO v_t1
      from TableA
      FROM TABLEA
      WHERE ID IN (select t.ID from table(v_Table) t);
      for i in 1..v_t1.count loop
        dbms_output.put_line(v_t1(i).ID);
        dbms_output.put_line(v_t1(i).No);
      end loop;
    end;

  • How can i pass calculated value to internal table

    Hi
    i have to pass calculated value into internal table
    below field are coming from database view and i' m passing view data into iznew1
    fields of iznew1
                 LIFNR  LIKE EKKO-LIFNR,
                 EBELN  LIKE EKKO-EBELN,
                 VGABE  LIKE EKBE-VGABE,
                 EBELP  LIKE EKBE-EBELP,
                 BELNR  LIKE EKBE-BELNR,
                 MATNR  LIKE EKPO-MATNR,
                 TXZ01  LIKE EKPO-TXZ01,
            PS_PSP_PNR  LIKE EKKN-PS_PSP_PNR,
                 KOSTL  LIKE EKKN-KOSTL,
                 NAME1  LIKE LFA1-NAME1,
                 NAME2  LIKE LFA1-NAME2,
                 WERKS  LIKE EKPO-WERKS,
                 NETWR  LIKE EKPO-NETWR,
                 KNUMV  LIKE EKKO-KNUMV,
                 GJAHR  LIKE EKBE-GJAHR,
    and now i want to pass
    one field ED1  which i has calculated separatly and i want to pass this value into iznew1
    but error is coming that iznew1 is a table with out header line  has no component like ED1.
    so how can i pass calculated value to internal table iznew1,

    When you declare your internal table , make an addtion occurs 0
    eg . data : begin of iznew occurs 0 ,
                    fields ...
       add the field here ed1.
               end of iznew.
    now when you are calculating the value of ed1,
    you can pass the corresponding value of  ed1 and modify table iznew.
    eg
    loop at iznew.
    iznew-ed1 = ed1.
    modify iznew.
    endloop.
