  • Help with "Exception in thread "Thread-4" java.lang.NullPointerException"

    I am new to Java and I am trying a simple bouncing ball example from Stanford. Here is their simple example that works.
    import acm.program.*;
    import acm.graphics.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    public class BouncingBallWorking extends GraphicsProgram {
    /** sets diameter */
    private static final int DIAM_BALL = 30;
    /** amount y velocity is increased each cycle */
    private static final double GRAVITY = 3;
    /** Animation delay or pause time between ball moves */
    private static final int DELAY = 50;
    /** Initial X and Y location ball*/
    private static final double X_START = DIAM_BALL / 2;
    private static final double Y_START = 100;
    private static final double X_VEL = 3;
    private static final double BOUNCE_REDUCE = 0.9;
    private double xVel = X_VEL;
    private double yVel = 0.0;
    private GOval BallA;
    public void run() {
    setup(X_START,Y_START);
    //         Simulation ends when ball goes off right hand
    //         end of screen
    while (BallA.getX() < getWidth()) {
    moveBall(BallA);
    checkForCollision(BallA);
    pause(DELAY);
    private void setup(double X_coor, double Y_coor) {
    BallA = new GOval(X_coor, Y_coor, DIAM_BALL, DIAM_BALL);
    add(BallA);
    private void moveBall(GOval BallObject) {
    yVel += GRAVITY;
    BallObject.move(xVel,yVel);
    private void checkForCollision(GOval BallObject) {
    if(BallObject.getY() > getHeight() - DIAM_BALL){
    yVel = - yVel * BOUNCE_REDUCE;
    double diff = BallObject.getY() - (getHeight() - DIAM_BALL);
    BallObject.move(0, -2 * diff);
    } Now I am trying to modify "setup" so it I can create several balls. I made a simple modification to "setup" and now I am getting an error.

              add(BallObject);

    That is great! Thanks. I've got two question though.
    1.) Now I want to have 100 bouncing balls. Is the best way to achieve this is through an array of GOvals? I haven't gotten to the lecture on arrays on Stanford's ITunesU site yet so I am not sure what is possible with what I know now.An array would work, or a List. But it doesn't matter much in this case.
    2.) Are references being passed by value only applicable to Java or is that common to object-oriented programming? Also is there a way to force Java to pass in "BallA" instead of the value "null"?I can't say about all OO languages as a whole, but at least C++ can pass by reference.
    And no, there's no way to pass a reference to the BallA variable, so the method would initialize it and it wouldn't be null anymore.
    When you call the method with your BallA variable, the value of the variable is examined and it's passed to the method. So you can't pass the name of a variable where you'd want to store some object you created in the method.
    But you don't need to either, so there's no harm done.

            setLocation(xOffset*openFrameCount, yOffset*openFrameCount);
    } Please tel me where is my mistake or maybe you knew another way to open JInternalFrame with public method form another class

    Some possibly helpful suggestions:
    1) Create one JDesktopPane, and do it in the constructor of GUI. You should call this constructor only once.
    2) Get rid of GUII. The GUI constructor will do all this and more.
    3) Get rid of startFrame and startFrame2.
    4) In GUI2, change your width and height to static variables if you are going to use them in outside classes. There is no reason to have to create a GUI2 object just to get those values. Get them from the class, not the instances.
    5) You're doing something funky in your Top class with your mixing of static code and non-static code. My gut tells me that Top is just a static universe that exists to get your code up and running, and that the code within it should all be static, but that's just my personal opinion.
    6) In MyInternalFrame, get the height and width from GUI2 (if that's what you want to do) again in a static fashion. Rather than new GUI2().width which makes no sense, use GUI2.width.
    Why can't you put the button inside of the JInternalFrame object? I believe that the contentPane of this object which may hold your button (unless you embed a jpanel) uses BorderLayout, so you have to take care how you add jcomponents to the jinternalframe (or more precisely, it's contentPane).

  • Getting "java.lang.NullPointerException" error message when trying to run an OATS OpenScript file from Eclipse to Create a record in Oracle EBS

    Hello,
    I'm trying to run a simple OpenScript script in Eclipse that creates a record (a Supplier in this case) in Oracle E-Business Suite. So I copied the the script file from OpenScript and created it as a Class in Eclipse.  Then I created a main class to call the methods within the script class but no matter what method I call (initialize, run or finalize) I'm getting the java.lang.NullPointerException message. The error doesn't seem to be related with any specific line in the script but with the way that I'm calling it.
    Should I call the OpenScript class from my main class in a different way? (see my examples below)
    BTW, all external .jar files coming with OATS have been added to my project in Eclipse.
    1) Here's the main class I created to call the OpenScript method (Eclipse auto-corrected my main class adding a Try and Catch around the method call):
    public class Test {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            nvscript nvs = new nvscript();
            try {
                nvs.initialize();
            } catch (Exception e) {
                // TODO Auto-generated catch block
                e.printStackTrace();
    2) Here's the script from OpenScript (the actual script has more steps but I'm just using the first one for a proof of concept):
    import oracle.oats.scripting.modules.basic.api.*;
    import oracle.oats.scripting.modules.browser.api.*;
    import oracle.oats.scripting.modules.functionalTest.api.*;

  • A critical error has occured: java.lang.NullPointerException in bank detail

    Hi all,
            When i maintain data for infotype 0009 in R3, bank details link works fine. But when there is no data maintained in R3 for infotype 9..... instead of option for creating new bank details...im getting the following error...

    I have maintained all configs in SPRO and active subtypes have been maintained....
    Please help me solve this... ITs CRITICAL for me to solve this problem....
    thanks,

    Hi,
    I think system working fine ....logically there should be entry for the infotype "0009"
    But if you want to change that then you need change the "Time constraint"  for this ...
    You can set that in table "T591A"
    go to se16 give 'T591A" then selection screen give "0009" and check the DATA.
    I think for infotype "0009 subtype "0" ( main bank ) the time contain will be "1" ......
    And its means there should be data in the PA30 for infotype "0009" .

  • Receive java.lang.NullPointerException (JCA-12563) on SCA with Stored Procedure dbAdapter (SOA Suite 12.1.3)

    Hi,
    I'm new to the Oracle SOA Suite and have been creating very simple SCA WebServices (async and sync) prototypes to INSERT, UPDATE and Poll Oracle 9i and 11g databases. So far, everything works and passes the tests from EM.
    I cannot get the Stored Procedure WebService to test successfully as I receive the error message below regardless of JNDI configuration for XA, non-XA, Last Logging Resource, Support Global Transactions,PlatformClassName, etc...  The Outbound Connection Pool is setup correctly as the other DML tests have worked fine.

    The SP SCA is the simplest possible application I can think of...  The WebService accepts a single INT, calls BPEL>Receive>Assign>Invoke>dbAdapter(Stored Procedure) that accepts a single IN INTEGER parameter in an Oracle 11g database.
    Steps I've used to create the SP SCA. (Create Empty SOA Application)
    1.) Create Database Adapter in External References swim lane.
    2.) Set JNDI and Connection.
    3.) Browse to Oracle Procedure...click through Wizard and accept all defaults.
       CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE TEST_SOA_API (
         wo_order_no_ IN INTEGER)
       IS
       BEGIN
         INSERT INTO TEST_TMP VALUES (wo_order_no_);
       END;
    4.) WSDL, XSD, JCA are automatically generated.
    5.) Create BPEL Process Component and select Template "Base on a WSDL".  I choose the WSDL created from the Database Adapter wizard.
    6.) The "Exposed Service" is automatically created and everything is wired.
    7.) I deploy to my CompactDomain (running on a local Oracle12 db).  No errors.
    8.) I login to EM and Test the WebService..and ALWAYS receive the error message above.
    I've tried BPEL Process and Mediator as components to simply pass the single incoming INT parameter to the SP DbAdapter and tried every combination I can think of with DataSource/DbAdapter Deployment through the Admin console.  I used the same exact steps above for INSERT, UPDATE, Polling and have had no issues so I cannot figure out why I'm not receiving java.NullPointer exception or why I'm receiving the XML/XSD malformation error.
    Stuck now...anyone have an idea what I'm doing wrong or simply tell me I'm an idiot and shouldn't do SP's this way?
    FYI.  I've turned on logging for the oracle.soa.adapter.db class to TRACE: 32(FINEST).  Not much help to me

    An even simpler request:
    Can someone create an SCA that simply accepts a single INT parameter and calls a Stored Procedure (Oracle) that inserts this INT into a table?  Maybe upload the project folder structure in a zip?

    Sorry this isn't really a response but I'm reposting your code with code tags around to make it easier to read... it's really worth doing this if you're posting code in future, otherwise it's nearly impossible to read!

  • Java.lang.NullPointerException returned from webservice

    Hi I have an axis client which sends an image attachment to an axis webservice, however I am returned with a null pointer exception,
    this is my client,

    import javax.activation.DataHandler;
    import javax.activation.FileDataSource;

                   //create the data for the attached file
                   DataHandler dhSource = new DataHandler(new FileDataSource(filename));
                   String endpointURL = "http://localhost:8080/axis/services/AttachmentService";
                   String methodName = "addImage";
                   Service service = new Service();
                   Call call = (Call)service.createCall();
                   call.setTargetEndpointAddress(new URL(endpointURL));
                   call.setOperationName(new QName("AttachmentService",methodName));
                   call.addParameter("sku",XMLType.XSD_STRING,ParameterMode.PARAM_MODE_IN);
                   QName qname = new QName("AttachmentService","DataHandler");
                   call.addParameter("image",qname,ParameterMode.PARAM_MODE_IN);
                   //register the datahandler
                   call.registerTypeMapping(dhSource.getClass(),qname,JAFDataHandlerSerializerFactory.class,JAFDataHandlerDeserializerFactory.class);
                   call.setReturnType(XMLType.XSD_STRING);
                   Object[] params = new Object[]{"SKU-111",dhSource};
                   String result = (String)call.invoke(params);
                   System.out.println("The response: "+result);
    ;          }catch(Exception e){
                   System.err.println(e.toString());
    this is my webservice,

                   FileOutputStream fout = new FileOutputStream(new File(filepath));
                   BufferedInputStream in = new BufferedInputStream(dataHandler.getInputStream());
                   while(in.available()!=0){

              }catch(Exception e){
                   return e.toString();
              return "Image: "+sku+" has been added successfully!!";
    I did a test by stripping out the attachment being sent by the client and just let it send the string,
    then in the webservice I stripped out the lines for the attachment and just returned the string and it worked ok, so it has been deployed correctly.
    I have the Java Activation framework both in tomcat commons and my webapps lib dir.
    I'm pretty sure the error is being thrown here,
    public String addImage(String sku,DataHandler dataHandler){
    any help would be greatly appreciated,
    thank you,
    JP.

    Ok, I have now successfully got the stack trace to show where the exception bubbled, Im suprised its in the axis client as I assumed it was in the webservice, but this whole exercise has been extremely beneficial,
    anyway this is the client code again and the stack trace error, I now think the problem lies within the JAF, possibly, however, im doing something incorrectly,

    Hi.
    Firstable thanks for your help, i do not think is a problem in the code because if i try again with the same data the application brings result data, we changed the jco configuration and it seems that resolved the problem, we are testing,
    The initial configuation was:
    Maximum Pool Size:     20
    Maximum Connections: 40
    Connection Timout (sec.): 20
    Maximum Waiting Time (sec.):40
    the new configuration is:
    Maximum Pool Size:     30
    Maximum Connections: 100
    Connection Timout (sec.): 0
    Maximum Waiting Time (sec.):10000

    Other times, it works fine. Anything I might have done wrong in installing this guy? Any thoughts?
    Thanks, Michael

    I'm agree ... His behavior is very strange.
    At the first time, I decompressed zip file into a new dir and at the first run I agreed to import setup from previous version. From the beginning the v2.1 worked wrong.
    After that, I removed all, new and previous versions. I deleted sqldeveloper folder and also service folder (under \Documents and Settings\...\Application data\...)
    Also I searched into registry ...
    Nothing to do ... also new installation hangs ...
    So, perhaps I have to wait new release ... (perhaps the exceptions or the environment conflict will be fixed).
    Thanks again.
    Regards.
    PS: Please, if you have other suggestions, let me know. Many Thanks.

    Please help.It is very urgent!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi
    Are you useing NWDS(CE 7.1) then you have use this sort of code to  bind it
    Model1 model1Model = new Model1();
        Bapi_Flight_Getlist_Input bapi_Flight_Getlist_Input = new Bapi_Flight_Getlist_Input(model1Model);
        Bapi_Flight_Getlist_Output output = new Bapi_Flight_Getlist_Output(model1Model);
        java.util.List<Bapisfldat> flight_List = new ArrayList<Bapisfldat>();
        output.setFlight_List(flight_List);
        wdContext.nodeBapi_Flight_Getlist_Input().bind(bapi_Flight_Getlist_Input);
    and if you are using NWD 7.0 then the binding will be differ use below sample code to bind it.
    Bapi_Flight_Getlist_Input input = new Bapi_Flight_Getlist_Input();
         input.setDestination_From(new Bapisfldst());
         input.setDestination_To( new Bapisfldst());
         wdContext.nodeBapi_Flight_Getlist_Input().bind(input);
    PS: Also check the cardinality  should be 1..n not 0:n.
    Thanks
