Calculator utility disappeared! (OSX newbie)

Hi,
I recently found that the calculations functionality of the new leopard was not working and tried to find the reason. What I found that might be related (or not) is that it appears that I have no calculator anymore! I can't for my life understand where or how it has been moved/deleted/disabled but I can't find it anywhere.
Any tips on how to get it back highly appreciated!
/Hannes

If you look in your applications folder is there a calculator.app?
If you don't see it and your apps are not in alpha order, select view->arrange by name
For some reason when I installed Leopard, the icons were in some random order and I thought some were missing.
You can also use the finder search bar and type in calculator.
If it's not there then you may need a tool like Pacifist to extract the app from your DVD.
You can get pacifist here:

It's easy to use.

  • Unable to reload os or Run Disk utility off osx dvd

Late 2007 Macbook Pro ( 2.53 , 4gb Ram, 320 GB hd) Will Load into osx but has the grey status bar at every boot ( Approximate 10 Mins for full boot) Ran disk utility in osx found issues and says run off DVD to repair the disk. Ran disk utility off the original DVD that came with the mac, wont find the hard drive to run disk utility. try to reinstall the OS. The installer wont find the hard drive? any idea how to resolve the issue so I can re install the OS to remove the grey status bar.

I can make a partition on the HD.
You'll have to decide which works best for you:
-boot from install disc, partition the external HD, install OS X on it, boot from it and see if HD shows up there so you can try to repair it (make sure you don't wipe out your TM data; your internal HD may not be reliable).
-get DiskWarrior or TechTool Pro or another disk repair utility and see what it can repair (note that these are more expensive than a new HD, but can come in handy to have around).
-get one of the SMART utilities that supposedly tell you more about your HD (I'm not a fan of either of the ones I've seen/tried and am far from confident in their results).
-get a new HD and try restoring from your TM backup.
-get an external enclosure (15 bucks or so for a USB model from newegg, amazon, macsales and others).

  • Error Installing Airport Utility on OSX 10.8.2

I can't install Airport Utility on OSX 10.8.2 so that I can install Airport Extreme.  Error message says the version of Mac OS X is not supported.  What can I do? Easily!

You have to install AirPort Utility from the disc if you're using Windows on your PC, so that's because Apple doesn't say it. Also, you could have bought an old AirPort Extreme that includes an older AirPort version for another Mac OS X

  • Is there an up to date version of the Outdoor Bridge Range Calculation Utility?

I have found this: Outdoor Bridge Range Calculation Utility
but it dates back to 2007. Brilliant tool but is there an up to date version with the details of current kit?
    Cheers,
    Andy

The spreadsheet seems to only rate up to 54mbps. I would have thought we could get more than that by now...
I have a requirement to replace a laser point to point with a wireless bridge, (dont know why the powers that be have decided laser isnt appropriate anymore). I would need at least a gb, preferably more. The link is only 150m.
Surely with the right kit there is a way to achieve the data rate needed at that distance without laser?
    Cheers,
    Andy

  • Any way to run the airport ex. admin utility on OSX 10.3.9?

Does anybody know a way to install the admin utility on OSX 10.3.9? All I want to do is confiugre the AEBS. I can live without the printer and disk sharing.
I see there are some third party scripts for talking SNMP to the Airport. Are any of the third party apps a reasonable alternative?
    Thanks,

    I found this suggestion:
As an option, here's a workaround...
    - Download the AirPort Base Station Update 2007-001 file from: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airportbasestationupdate2007001formac.htm l
    - Double-click AirPortBaseStationUpdate2007001.dmg to mount and display it's contents.
    - From the AirPortUtilityUpdate window, right-click on "AirPortBaseStationUpdate2007001.mpkg."
    - Select "Show Package Contents" from the pop-up menu.
    - In the "AirPortBaseStationUpdate2007001.mpkg window, double-click on the "Contents" folder to open it.
    - In the "Contents" window, double-click on the "Packages" folder to open it.
    - Right-click on "AirPortUtility.pkg."
    - Select "Show Package Contents" from the pop-up menu.
    - In the "AirPortUtility.pkg window, double-click on the "Contents" folder to open it.
    - Double-click on "Archive.pax.gz." This will create a new folder on your Desktop, named "Applications." The AirPort Utility will be inside this new folder. You can copy or move it to your Applications folder.
However, I just wind up with a file called archive.pax on my desktop. Stuffit expander says it doesn't know how to open it.

  • Bootcamp utility in OSX Lion tries to format my Drive when i only want to download the support software for my existing install...

So i have a bit of a problem...
im using a Mid 2009 13 Inch Macbook Pro in dualboot.
Im running OSX Lion and Windows 8 Consumer Preview in dual boot, no problems...
However i only have bootcamp 3.x software on my Windows install and i want to install 4.x ...
i know that to get the 4.x software i have to use the Bootcamp utility in Lion to download it, here is where the problem is...
i run the utility and check the box next to download support software and uncheck the rest (i dont want to format my install or remove it) and im prompted for a save location, which i set to my desktop (because i can read it from windows). it then informs me that its trying to format my Drive...  My System drive!?  all i want is the software, nothing else...
is there a way i can download it directly? such as i direct link to the software from the servers?

Read carefully. You have to download the software to a FAT32 formatted USB flash or hard drive.

  • DISK UTILITY FOR OSX 10.9.1?

Disk utility cannot be used with OSX 10.9.1?

    Why not?
    Please explain.
I have absolutely no problems with Disk Utility. It works just as it always has for me.

  • Disc utility for OSX, 10.9.1

The Disk utility that came with my MacBook Pro is no longer usable as my OS has had upgrades. Where can I find something to use.? I'd like to check my HD as well as my external HD.

    Hi Chochisu,
Newer versions of OS X use a built in version of the system tools as part of OS X Recovery. You may find the following articles helpful:

  • Calculation Utility calcstatusinstall.zip

I downloaded the above utility from the hyperion website. However, there is no instructions on how to time calculations (overall time), etc. Does anyone know how to use this utility? Thanks,Jason Nance

This may not be much help, but if you want to see how someone else implemented ZIP (it's not in Obj-c):
    http://codeazur.com.br/lab/fzip/
Now this is in Actionscript 3 I am going to assume that something as robust as Objective-C can easily implement this functionality. The Actionscript 3 ByteArray class uses zlib as well.
and here is the app note on the zip file format:

  • Calculator application disappeared!

    Hi, i have a 2 mth old nokia 6233.
I just realised that my calculator application (which I use very often) is missing, can no longer find it under 'menu..organiser..'. It also disappeared from my 'go to' shortcuts. Other applications like alarm clock and stopwatch are still present. Did I accidentally delete it and is it possible to do so? Didn't do anything special on the phone recently other than surfing gprs for soccer results...
Will a firmware upgrade at a tech support outlet restore the application? Will my msgs and pics disappear?
Thanks to anyone who can answer my queries...

I don't have a 6233, but if the calculator app was a Java program, it might very well be uninstallable.
A firmware update will remove anything in phone memory. Anything on a memory card should be safe (but I'd take it out when leaving a phone to be updated).
Use, e.g., Nokia PC Suite to back up or copy everything you wish to save to a PC.
A firmware update should restore the calculator app.
You can also try to do the update yourself (requires a Windows PC and USB cable):

  • IJ Canon Printer Utility disappeared after I replaced ink cartridges.

I just replaced the ink cartridges with ones I ordered from eforcity and it prints fine, but I haven't been able to locate the printer utility box ever since which means I haven't been able to check ink levels and clean the nozzles. This is really frustrating because I need to clean the print nozzles now. Every line on my printouts is streaking (half dark / half faded). Help! Thanks.

  • Format a password protected hard disk in Disk Utility in OSX

Well, this isn't exactly old, but I have a Toshiba MK6034GAX Hard Disk drive from a Laptop (It's a 60GB PC Hard Drive), It got replaced one day, as it has the "HDD Password:" prompt at startup on a Laptop computer, and I was wondering how I could format it in Disk Utility (The version in OS X 10.4.11). Is there any utility for unlocking HDDs with the "HDD Password:" prompt for OS X?
    Dr. Power User

Use any old utility under OS 9 to erase it, then Disk Utility will not see it as password-protected. You could try Lido or any of the others on this page:

  • Smart mailbox and signatures disappeared OSX Mountain Lion

I restarted Mail today and all of my smart mailboxes and my signature have disappeared.
I tried the Mailbox "Rebuild" command, but that didn't bring them back.
Will I have to re-do all of them from scratch? It takes about half an hour to set them all back up again...

I re-set up all of the smart mail filters yesterday from scratch and found them all missing again today...
I had dragged some of them up to the top nav of the mail client. They still appear there, but they are greyed out and nothing happens when I click them.
It seems serveral others are having this problem. I didn't see any official fixes for it though.
    Thanks.

  • Scanner Utility Disappeared

So, I just spent all afternoon on the phone with HP tech support, because my device was not scanning.  It would go back and forth between my computer not recognizing the scanner, and my scanner not recognizing the computer.  We reinstalled the latest HP printer software, and also the appropriate drivers from the Apple website, and that seemed to do the trick.
I have a macbook pro with Mavericks, and an HP 4635 all-in-one printer.
I succesfully got the scanner to work after the call, and was using the scan utility succesfully for the past hour or so, by clicking the "Scan" tab in the utility for the printer, then clicking "open scanner".  It opens a window where you can name the file, adjust it's color, file type, etc.. and just click scan.
Suddenly (and through absolutely no change on my part, I simply put a new page onto the glass) the utility grayed out, and the "open scanner" window just turned into a blank grey window.
I've restarted the printer and the computer, but now, every time I "open scanner", it brings up a totally empty window.
Any thoughts?  This has been ridiculously annoying, as I have been trying to scan all day, and have nothing but issues like this in the 4+ months I've owned this printer.

Consenses seems to be to use the Vista driver FOUND HERE.  There are third party products that do have the support.  See here:  http://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/hp_scanjet_3500.html
