CalDAV and Profile Manager question
I am attempting to set up CalDAV in Profile Manager for our mobile devices. I am applying these settings to a group. I can't complete configuring the CalDAV payload because Profile Manager tells me that a CalDAV username is required. Again, this profile is for a group, so each user should be entering his own username to connect to his personal calendar. I've included a screenshot below to illustrate what's happening.
Is there something I'm misunderstanding about how CalDAV needs to be configured, or is this a bug?
Hi Adams,
You can use variables keys in Profile Manager to push groups settings

Print server, AD, and Profile Manager
Having a number of issues that I can resolve regarding printing--I am trying to set up profiles in the Profile Manager, but printers are not available or visable. However they are visable in the workgroup manager. The printers reside on Windows print server (2008 R2). Further I can add the printers to my server, but they are not visable in the "Printer Sharing" section of "sharing". So with that, I have a few questions:
1. Do I need to turn on Kerberos in CUPS? User's don't authenticate to our printers via Kerberos, but via the Account manager of the individual printers.
2. Why do settings in Workgroup manager not apply? I can add the printers via LDAP the the new groups I have added, but when I open profile manager the changes or printers are not implemented.
3. How do I make printers visible in Profile Manager?
I have scoured the net and several manuals, but I can seem to stumble upon the correct answer.Hi,
I have the same issue, very frustrating. Using a Win 2003 AD and 10.8.2 server and clients. If i use WGM I can see all users and groups correctly, but Server.app and Profile Manager does not show them correct.
Strange that we see issues like this since Profile Manager has been around for a while, really interested to hear other peoples experiences.
PS I see a similar thing here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4417085?start=0&tstart=0 -
Terminal Commands to clean Open Directory and Profile Manager
Hi,
So I've made the fun decision to move to ML Server as we are just getting services up and we should be on the most recent software to start. I have had interment luck with Open Directory and Profile Manager and was looking for a way to wipe the data bases and start clean.
I have tried getting to the ( usr/share/devicemgr/backend and running wipDB.sh. however the database doesnot exist.
It would be nice to clean the databases and setting instead of doing a full reinstall of MT Lion.
Thanks!
~FSU ITSo just found the fix for Profile Manger.

Push one new app and Profile Manager resends them all; turn this off?
I manage the ipads for a medium sized school district. We're using Apple Configurator on Maverics to manage about 700 ipads most of which have been updated to iOS7 and supervised manually through the mini that functions as our MDM and server.
So average day: a teacher requests a new app to be pushed out to the 30 ipads that are in one of the shared ipad carts. I have all the ipads in a device group in profile manager, so I go out to itunes, download the app, upload it to profile manager and add it to the device group, hit save, and I can see that a new active task has begun pushing that app out to all the devices in the cart.
The active task used to just say "Push Apps to [device group] 30 of 30 in progress: [#] succeded" 30 copies of an app, one for each of 30 devices. Totally normal.
Now since the update to iOS7/Maverics when I send one app to one cart configurator is erasing EVERY app on that cart and resending them ALL. So now the active task in the same situation looks like "Push apps to [device group] __ of 538; [#] succeded." Where the 538 is the total number of apps on all 30 ipads.
As you can imagine this is a bit of a mess. Not only does it bring the mac server to its knees, but it makes the ipads in question useless until the apps have all redownloaded-- which can take hours, if not days, depending on other network traffic. At the very least with iOS7 one doesn't have to hit "confrim" on each app install, but still, small consolation there.
Is there a way to turn this weird behavior off? Are other people experiencing this? Is it just a horrible bug that someone is planning to fix very soon?

Update 3.1.1 external calendar issues (and profile manager)
So I did the 3.1.1 update and now I am of course regretting it. I am having the non functional profile manager issue but, more importantly my calendar server is not communicating to any of the devices outside the network. I have a firewall in place so the question is did apple add a port to this update? I ran wireshark and couldn't find anything new.
Help!How long between syncing?
This link provides the data included with the backup.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
If you received or placed a call, the same for SMS/MMS, used Safari, made any changes to contact info and calendar events, there were changes to the data included with your iPhone's backup. If there were no changes to any of the data included with your iPhone's backup since the last sync, your iPhone's backup wouldn't be updated.
Does your iPhone's Camera Roll include a number of photos that haven't been imported by your computer followed by being deleted from the Camera Roll, or have been imported but not removed from the Camera Roll after the import process is complete?
2. The other symptom I've noticed (that commenced with the prior OS version) is that the phone is hesitating sometimes and won't respond for up to a minute to screen inputs-- seems to be preoccupied with some task it wasn't doing before.
Any change after powering your iPhone off and on and/or after doing an iPhone reset when this occurs? -

Yes but my point is that the device may not be able to connect to the internet for a period of time. Thus all devices will have different data on them.
So you are constantly (multiple times per hour/day) changing contacts/calendars on different devices with no internet around?
The data gets sync'd only when it changes.
So you are out in the field with no internet.
You make a change on your iPhone. It doens't get sync'd to your computer.
Who cares,? Yo have the data on your phone and you don't have your computer.
Now you drive back to town. When you get a data connection, everything sync's up.
why remove the functionality to sync everything else at the same time, should the user choose or need to do so.
The Sync Services functionality was removed from the OS, so there is nothing for iTunes to use.
It still works in Windows. -
I try to start Firefox, but it just doesn't start. I have tried every way of starting it I can think of. Nothing that appears Firefox related shows up in the task manager process tab. I don't remember having any kind of crash. There is no error message. (If I click on a URL in an email or something, I get a "general failure" message -- I assume that's because my system is supposed to open FF and can't.)
I rebooted, and tried uninstalling and reinstalling. One of the help thingies suggested using profile manager to change my profile, but it looks like profile manager is part of Firefox, and it won't run.Make sure that Firefox is completely closed, when you try to run the profile manager.
Can you try to get your crash report ID (without opening Firefox) using the instructions at https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+crashes+when+you+open+it#Getting_your_crash_report -
Firefox will not start and profile manager will not start
This has happened on two accounts on my laptop. I am running windows 7, 64 bit and firefox 18.0. Firefox had been running on this machine for several years without incident, but suddenly when I try to start firefox, it will not start. The little wait icon spins for about a second then disappears without starting firefox. Other browser will start and run. I reboot and when I click on the icon to start firefox nothing happens. I tried to start the profile manager as seen in the knowledge base, but nothing starts either. I switched to another account on this computer and firefox started and ran for about a week, until today where it just stopped working. I have not tried to reinstall firefox as the message boards say this will not help. Any ideas?
Thanks for your help. I had tried starting Firefox in safe-mode before I posted this request, but it did not work. I tried to restore the system to an earlier version, but that made everything worse. Two accounts were unusable and one sort of worked, so I reloaded the operating system and now firefox works, for how long, I don't know. But thanks again for your suggestion.

Server 3.1 and Profile Manager woes
I was hoping the 3.1 upgrade would resolve the Profile Manager not working with "real" Code Signing certificates, but it seems to have made things even worse. (I swear there's no Q/A on this product.)
I readded my Digicert code signing certificate after upgrading (they have been amazing and have even issued me a special certificate to match all of the extensions and critical flags that the self-signed one Apple generates has).
With 3.1, it lets me pick the Digicert certificate for Profile Manager, but silently doesn't actually honour the preference. The self-signed certificate continues to be used. The logs are full of errors that I believe are related:
scep_helper.log after picking the certificate:

*sighs*The private key already had the "Allow all applications to access this item". I went in there and hit Save anyway, and tried again. Still the same issue. Profile Manager lets me pick the certificate, but if leave the Profile Manager section and go back in, I find that it has been reverted.
And interestingly enough, if I set the values from the command line:
serveradmin settings devicemgr devicemgr:devicemgr:CodeSigningPrivateKey = /etc/certificates/Coverall\ Crew\ Corporation.5504F8C4DA768FC0253A9E8264EDAFC29AC75328.key.pem

It's as if it completely ignores any updates.
I guess I may have to contact Apple for support. -
I just set up Profile Manager on a 10.8 Server and so far so good. Well, except for one thing I can't seem to figure out. Push notifications are not working on one of my vlans at my workplace. They work fine on the LAN (10.5.5.x) and work fine on our WLAN (10.5.7.x) vlan for corporate. However we have a seperate WLAN vlan(10.100.100.x) for guest access. It is segragated from the two. I can push information to machines while they are on the LAN and the WLAN corporate, but not the guest WLAN. All of our iOS devices connect to the guest network (for compatibilty). Any thoughts?
I've got the exact same issue, except that my network that won't take the push notifications is exactly the same as the network that does, just a different range.
I'm wondering if there is a configuration file that sets the local networks that the server can push to without using the APNS from the apple servers, and if we have to add the extra ranges to that? I am yet to locate said configuration file although!
Anyone else have any ideas? -

Please helpI did a clean install of Lion/Lion Server, but I ran ino the same problem too with "Error Reading Settings" for both the profile manager and the wiki.
INVESTIGATION: I checked to see if the postgres database (which I presumed was were the settings were being read from).
# sudo serveradmin fullstatus postgres
postgres:dataDirHasBeenInitialized = yes
postgres:PG_VERSION = "9.0.4"
postgres:dataDir = "/var/pgsql"
postgres:postgresIsResponding = no # !!! why isn't it responding???
postgres:dataDirIsDirectory = yes
postgres:PGserverVersion = 0
postgres:dataDirExists = yes
postgres:setStateVersion = 1
postgres:state = "RUNNING"
PROBLEM: The postgres service hadn't been started properly; I found this by doing the following:
# sudo serveradmin stop postgres
postgres:state = "STOPPED"
# sudo serveradmin start postgres
postgres:error = "CANNOT_START_SERVICE_TIMEOUT_ERR"
FIX: The postgres service couldn't create the log file because it didn't have permission. I did this to fix it, then simply restarted it and all was well:
# sudo chmod 777 /Library/Logs/
# sudo serveradmin start postgres
postgres:state = "RUNNING"
I hope this helps someone. -
Yosemite Server Signed Certificate vs OD and Profile Manager
Hello Again,
For more info on my setup follow the thread exchange Yosemite Server forward zone vs SSL types
I've purchased a Comodo Positive SSL that covers www.example.com and example.com
I asked OS X Server to use it and it went on to set up this Comodo signed Certificates up for Calendar, Mail (Pop and iMAP), Mail (SMTP), Messages and Websites.....
... But not for Open Directory which uses the xyz.example.com OD Intermediate CA.
In Profile Manager, Configuration Profile Sections, I have checked "Sign Configuration Profile" and the only choice if I click the "edit" button is the "xyz.example.com OD Intermediate CA".
1- Should OD use the Comodo Certificate like all other services?
2- Will the Comodo certificate appear in the Profile Manager If I tell OD to use it?
FrancoisSorry Here,
Hope I understand this correctly.
The Comodo Positive SSL is a Web certificate. Although I ask OD to use it, it didn't.
Then Profile Manager expects a "code signing" certificate which is why all it saw was Open Directory's one.

Certificate and Profile Manager
I've had my server setup and running for awhile now and its working fairly well for the first time in months.
However, when trying to enable Profile manager, I got this error:
The error occurred while processing a command of type 'exportIdentity' in plug-in 'servermgr_certs'.
I've had OD up and runnig for awhile and the system made its typical OpenDirectory Intermediate CA as part of that process.
But in addition to the above error, when I go to profile manager, no certificate shows up. Any ideas how to fix this error?I'm running into the same problem. I upgraded an Open Directory server from 10.6.8 to 10.8.2. I'm running the latest version of Server.app. I have a valid code signing certificate from DigiCert. When I try to import it I get errors and now when I open up the Profile Manager service I receive the error "'exportidentity' in plug-in 'servermgr_certs'". I can only choose a self-signed cert and even with that chosen I still receive that error.
