CalDav Issues: migrating iCal server (10.6) to Calendar (10.9)

We just migrated our 10.6 Server using the migration tool assistant to Mavericks Server. Most of the data migrated smoothly except for the user calendars...
We have all our users running their account as mobile accounts and using the iCal Server service to store their calendars. On our 10.6 server the calendars were store to a specific volume (example: /Volumes/Drobo/iCalServer ). After the migration to Mavericks Server, we activated the Calendar service and then all the calendars for all the users went blank with a default calendar called "calendar"... so it seems we lost all the calendars and events for all the users :-(
How can I restore them? Is there a way to export the calendars from the old server to the new one?
Thank you.

My impression is that the individual users' Calendars are stored in their individual User Directories on the Server.
/Users/short-user_name/Library/Calendars/
The actual filenames are impenetrable -- they look like UUID strings.
I did not copy any calendar data around. But when I did my upgrade, I had to re-specify the calendar accounts
(inside Calendar > Preferences > Accounts for each user)
... before it would agree that there was any valid Calendar data anywhere.

  • Backup/Migrate iCal Server

    Hi everybody,
How would one migrate the iCal Server from one Lion Server to a new Lion Server?
And related to this question: how do you export the iCal Server data for backup purposes?
    Greetings,
    Martin

Well, the postgres does a data dump daily ... but Apple does not provide an easy restore.
Contact Apple.  I think I'd like to start a petition on this.

  • ICal Server and Python causing max CPU usage on 10.5.1 server

We are having an issue with iCal Server where a python process is monopolizing the CPU (70%-95%) to the point everything grinds to a halt. Once iCal is stopped, then started again it will be ok for anywhere from 10 minutes to a few hours before it starts all over again.
caldavd error Log is being bombarded with what looks like every transaction. See example below:
    2008-01-07 11:26:46-0600 [-] [caldav-8008] [HTTPChannel,4634,192.168.1.139] PROPFIND /principals/_uids_/BA237A85-F880-4A89-B1C1-F07E72A1508E/ HTTP/1.1
This may be completely unrelated, but the DirectoryService process seems to be running high (35%-40%) as well.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • ICal Server - 2 users out of many cannot see availability

    Hi..
There seems to be a strange issue with 2 users out of many in my configuration.
I have a server running OS X Server 10.6.6 with iCal Server (among other services - EMail, OD, etc) configured.
There are several (50+) users configured in WGM.
    Basic Calendar operation...
    - Connect (via caldav) to the iCal Server with iCal, or using the Web interface
    - create a new event
    - add invitees, or one of the configured locations
    - view the 'availability' of the invitees or locations
.. works as advertised, showing checkmark or whatever for the person or location, as well as your own 'work times' as configured in iCal preferences...
.. except for 2 of the users.
The name / location autocomplete works as expected.
The name of the person or location is displayed normally, but there is an exclamation mark - ! - beside the name.
There is no display of the busy times or availability in the panel provided.
Their own 'work times' (configured on the account information preferences window) are not shown.
(their availability is shown when other users invite and check)
The invitation for the event that they create is sent to the other user, but when the request is accepted, there is no event in the other calendar, and no indication on their event that the user had accepted.
I have gone thru the user's settings in WGM, compared them to other 'functioning' usernames, and found nothing that yells 'fix-me'.
It is not a client side issue, as I have created the iCal caldav connection on other computers, used the web interface from other computers, (where it works for other users).
The users were all created manually, following the same process, with the same basic information entered.
These 2 specific users were created several minutes apart, are not sequential in the UIDs.
I do not wish to delete and recreate these users, for various reasons...
(as a last resort, may have to...)
    so....
does ANYone have any suggestions or ideas where to look?
    thanks...

    ok.. so..
    riddle me this:
why did this issue spontaneously resolve itself?
have been testing and analyzing for over a week...
    one account started working yesterday.
I tested the other account this morning, it didn't work on client computer.
set up the caldav account on my computer, tested, it worked.
went back to client computer, tested, it worked.
not going to complain, but am curious as to the cause and solution...

  • ICal Server 404 HTTP Error

    Hi all,
I'm having a perplexing issue with iCal server.  Every now and again, iCal reports that it encountered an HTTP 404 error with my iCal account on one of my Lion servers.  I can't seem to figure it out.  Anyone else having this issue?  Any suggestions?
    Chris

Do you ever get 404 errors accessing server.example.com/webcal ?
If you are using SSL check that your SSL sertificat is correctly set for iCal. In Server app go to Hardware => Server => Settings => SSL Certificate.
You can try enabling the webcal manually by doing this:
    iCal with SSL:
    sudo webappctl start com.apple.webapp.webcalssl
    iCal without SSL:
    sudo webappctl start com.apple.webapp.webcal
This rebuilds you apache httpd.conf and restarts apache which suppressing often solves problems in Lion Server. Alternatively you might try to disable all services, change your servers hostname (just go through the process but change the hostname to what the hostname already is) and then re-enable all your services.

  • ICal server error "500"

Hi, iCal was functionig great till yesterday whe an error message pop-up. It is in spanish but I hope someone can help me.

I had this problem on OSX server 10.6.8 and a couple of users sharing their calendars thru iCal.
After a Time machine backup restore, the owner names were altered on the /Library/CalendarServer/ and thus the user were not able to write their local machine cache content onto the server.
The problem was probably triggered by alteration of folder (& content) permissions, so the Admin can see the file contents and identify the user's calendar data for restore.
It appears that the folder owner has to be specifically "_calendar"; allowing Owner Group Others full Read Write rights was NOT able to circumvent this permissions issue.
I also reset the user's passwords, turned on / off the ical server, emptied the ~/Library/Calendars/Calendar Cache, as mentioned elsewhere but that did not help.
Your mileage may vary, and as always, make backups and take precautions before proceeding.

  • Need urgent Help for setting up iCal Server

I will move the iCal portion here, maybe I will get some help.
    Okay first my setup:
Two XServe with the latest 10.5 (one is the backup)
    Six Mac Pros with Leopard
Three Macbook Pros with Snow Leopard
All Macs are on an Windows 2003 Active Directory network. Also we have our accounts locally (on each workstation and laptop).
*So I have installed the advanced settings for the Server OS.
*Created a account for every user on the server
*The FTP, Web (for the local webpage), Open Directory and iCal services are on. (iCal would only activate with Open Directory service??)
*The iCal server destination (for the calendars) are on a separate drive with +Ignore Permissions+
Still can not link a account through iCal with the server!
Could somebody give me a walkthrough how to setup the iCal server?
Oh yeah another issue I had I can't get the calendaring checkbox in the user account to stick! Is this just a bug?

    Hi Umesh,
I would not use the repository on a database that was cloned. In my experience this leads to problems.
A better way is to clone the database and then create a new repository on the clone:
    1. export the repository on the windows server to an mdl file
    2. unregister all target users on solaris
    3. drop the repository on solarais
    4. create a new repository on solaris
    5. Import the data from the mdl file you exported in step 1
    6. register target users
    7. configure and register the locations
This way requires some manual work, but I do not see another way.
    Regards,
    Carsten.

  • Major CalDav and Syncing Issues with Ical and Address Book

As a CEO and business owner - I loved the move over to Mac after the intel chip as installed.  Yet, the issue of working on a Mac for business comes down to the operating system.  Up to Snow Leopard I was very pleased.... since Lion it has gone downhill.   I upgraded to Mountain Lion and many of the issues with speed and problems with mail were addressed.  Yet, it appears Apple has made a bad decision with regard to synciing to other programs.
I was told it has cut out syncing capablities for Address book and Ical (I assume other programs).  This has caused great issues for The Omni Group, File Maker and Market Cirlce (creators of Daylite) and a lot of angst for me as a business owner!
To top this off - it appears CalDav is not bi-directional and has issues.  In other words, it does not work as it should.
I am not sure what Apple was thining when it stopped allowing internal sync between programs. Yet, CalDav and CardDav are not always the answers!
I hope the CalDav issues are being cleaned up and if anyone from Apple wishes to comment on this I would appreciate it.  I have tried to talk to support but the powers to be are the ones calling the shots on software design.  Support can't fix what is broken the program.
Again, I hope Apple revisits syncing.  Maybe the concern is security but it is MY DATA not yours.  I just want the programs to work so I can make sales and support my customers efficiently.   You have made it hard to do this with changes.
    David

As an IT consultant,  i'm in agreement with Mr Utts.    The promise of "it just works" died with Steve Jobs.   Mac OS has been in freefall since 10.5 .    I need a fully functional OS,  not an iPad on my desk.  ( this means YOU Forstall !! )
Why break Samba ( a standard ),  why break WebDAV ( a standard ), why break CalDAV ( a standard )??    Apple has done ALL of these things and they seem to be doing it on purpose.
The Apple "ecosystem" is just fine,  but removing functionality as fast as you can, and removing interoperablity as fast as you can...  if Apple products ONLY work within the ecosystem... people can and will leave Apple.    You've already run off the business users by refusing to make a real Server or real Server software.   You ran off the video user with Final Cut Pro X.   Dumbing down (and breaking) the OS is running off the IT User.
Mac OS used to easily walk the line of "hard core enough for a Unix Guru,  easy enough for your Mom".  Now they just want the Moms.
And i disagree,  we are ALL "qualified to say what Apple might do about this...",  they will do nothing.   They don't beleive they have made a mistake.  They beleive WE are the problem by stubbornly insisting that things that used to work should continue to work.

  • Migrate SQL Server 7.0 to Oracle 8i - Any known issues??

    Hi,
I am in the process of migrating SQL Server database to Oracle 8i for testing purpose. When I do migrate SQL Server database to Oracle 8i, am I doing any harm to the exiting SQL Server database? Would the users be able to use SQL Server database as usual?? Are there any known issues in this regard?
    Please reply.
    Thanks.
    Ramesh

The Migration Workbench copys the information it requires from the source database and stores it in the Migration Workbench Repository, which is separate from the Source database. So, to answer your question, yes, the users can continue to use the SQL Server database. The data move may cause some system performance degradation. It may also be an idea to replicate the SQL Server database, in case any complication should arise.
    Hope this helps
    Dan

    Ramesh Hi Ramesh!
The Migration Workbench does not make any modifications to the SQL Server database. It only reads information from it. Your users should be able to use the SQL Server database as usual.
Please note however that if you migrate the data over to Oracle using the Migration Workbench and your users continue to enter/update data in the exiting SQL Server database then you may need to move all that data over again in order to have the most up to date data in the Oracle database.
    thanks

  • Publishing iCal calendar to CalDAV on 10.5 server

I think I have iCal service set up on my 10.5 server (finally) but I'm getting stumped by iCal and its lack of help.
I follow the Setting up a CalDAV account in iCal instructions, but I get Account information not found, Calendar http://<myfqdnhere>/principals/users/<username>/ could not be found.
I seem to be missing some step in publishing my .ics files, but it worked great under 10.4
I have Open Directory running and I have a user with calendar service active on this server.

Any (?) CalDAV compatible client should work but I don't know how you access/setup delegation not using iCal. Others have more experience using something else than iCal ≥3.x.
There is also a plugin for Thunderbird called Lightning.
    http://trac.calendarserver.org/wiki/CalendarClients
iCal helps you finding the right path to the server calendar, using something else you have to add the path manually :
    http://<server FQDN>:8008/principals/users/<username>/
    or
    http://<server FQDN>:8008/principals/user/_UIDS_<rest from user OD account>/
SnowLeopard has an updated calendar server (2.x) which apparantly is much more efficient.
Also using iPhone 3.0 or better you can sync calendars directly from the server (SnowLeopard only?).

  • How to migrate local iCal data - iCal Server 2?

    Hi folks,
my topic already says everything: How can I migrate my local iCal calendars to iCal Server 2 without having to touch each appointment?
(10.6.2 Server + iCal Server 2 is properly running and well configured in iCal)
    Tnx,
    Christian

    I found the solution
    1. export the local calendar you wish to migrate
    2. import the exported file again
    3. you will be asked in which calendar you wish to import -> choose the server-side calendar
    that's it!

  • 10.5 iCal Server User having invite issues and 403 errors.

I have a 10.5 iCal server running. One user has constant problems. I've made a new account and the issue persists. A lot of 403 errors. People can't always invite him. He can't always invite others. Most invitees show up with "!" by their names. The log is showing that his folder in the CalendarServer can't be found (though sometimes it is) and that he is not enabled in the Calendar SACL, though the main group he belongs to is enabled.
    Thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.

No solution, gave the 10.5 user an Intel Mac running Snow Leopard.

  • Issues with JMS Server migration

    Hi All,
I have issue with JMS server migration.
I have configured clustred environment with 2 Managed server (MS1 & MS2) and with one JMS Server which is running on MS1 and configured for auto migration, when I start both my managed server once and access the application very functionality works fine and when I stop the MS1 the JMS server successfully geting migrated to MS2 and in this scenarion also my application works as expected and when I restart the MS1 and access the application all the functionalities related to MDBs are executed twice.
However once we restart the MS1 we observe that in the monitor tab of MDB the connection status for both managed servers it show as connected.
As a result there is a redundancy when the MDB is executed
I am using Weblogic Server 10.3.0 & normal topics in the MDBs.
Please let me know is this a bug or am I missing any configuration.

    Hi Suresh,
There is a "Bug-10007947" in WLS 10.3.0 version which dose not displays the values properly on admin-console once the migration has taken place, however I am assuming that bug may fix your issue so try that out in your test environment. If that dose not work try out the below suggestions.
    Suggestion:
    - Try the same test on different versions of WLS lower as well as on higher versions compared to WLS 10.3.0 (i.e WLS 9.2.X and WLS 10.3.x) and check what are the result.
    - If in any other version your test runes properly, then you can create a simple test case and open a service request with Oracle asking for creating a BUG and let them do their job.
    Hope above information helped you.
