Messaging Server and Calendar Server Mount points for SAN

Hi! Jay,
We are planning to configure "JES 05Q4" Messaging and Calendar Servers on 2 v490 Servers running Solaris 9.0, Sun Cluster, Sun Volume Manager and UFS. The Servers will be connected to the SAN (EMC Symmetrix) for storage.
I have the following questions:
1. What are the SAN mount points to be setup for Messaging Server?
I was planning to have the following on SAN:
- /opt/SUNWmsgsr
- /var/opt/SUNWmsgsr
- Sun Cluster (Global Devices)
Are there any other mount points that needs to be on SAN for Messaging to be configured on Sun Cluster?
2. What are the SAN mount points to be setup for Calendar Server?
I was planning to have the following on SAN:
- /opt/SUNWics5
- /var/opt/SUNWics5
- /etc/opt/SUNWics5
3. What are the SAN mount points to be setup for Web Server (v 6.0) for Delegated Admin 1.2?
- /opt/ES60 (Planned location for Web Server)
Delegated Admin will be installed under /opt/ES60/ida12
Directory server will be on its own cluster. Are there any other storage needs to be considered?
Also, Is there a good document that walks through step-by-step on how to install Messaging, Calendar and Web Server on 2 node Sun Cluster.
The installation document doesn't do a good job or atleast I am seeing a lot of gaps.

There are basically two choices..
a) Have local binaries in cluster nodes (e.g 2 nodes) ... which means there will be two sets of binaries, one on each node in your case.
Then when you configure the software ..you will have to point the data directory to a cluster filesystem which may not be neccasarily global. But this filsystem should be mountable on both nodes.
The advantage of this method is that ... during patching and similar system maintenance activities....the downtime is minimum...
The disadvantage is that you have to maintain two sets of binaries ..i.e patch twice.
The suggested filesystems can be e.g.
/opt for local binaries
/SJE/SUNWmsgr for data (used during configure option)
This will mean installing the binaries twice...
b) Having a single copy of binaries on clustered filesystem....
This was the norm in iMS5.2 era ...and Sun would recommend this...though I have seen type a) also for iMs 5.2
This means there should no configuration files in local fs. Everything related to iPlanet on clustered filesystem.
I have not come accross type b) post SUNONE i.e 6.x .....it seems 6.x has to keep some files on the local filesystem anyway..so b) is either not possible or needs some special configuration
so may be you should try a) ...
The Sequence would be ..
After the cluster framework is ready:
1) Insall the binaries on both side
2 ) Install agent on one side
3) switch the filesytem resource on any node
4) Configure the software with the clustered FS
5) Switch the filesystem resource on the other node and useconfig of first node.

User Access for Messaging Server and Calendar Server

This is the first time i have setup JES. What i did was install Messaging, Calendar, Directory and Administration server. I did a configure after install option and followed the post install instructions for all of those servers.
I then started the administration console and added a user via the crete user option under "users and groups". Next i tried to logon as the user i just created via webmail and pop (exchange) and get an error message stating that the user does not exist. I did a search on the user via that admin server console and i did find the user and the "mail account" option was selected. I also verified the password was correct.
My main question is what am i doing wrong?
My goal is to create a email and calndar server using JES. I also want webmail.
Do i need to configure Identity Manager to create users for mail / calendar? Or do i create the users using the directory server / administration console?
Also i didnt setup delegated administrator. I didnt think i needed it becasue i will configure all of this using on administrator. If i dont need multiple administrators do i need delegated admin.
Here is some background information.

Solaris 10 01/06 x86
JES 2005 Q4

You can not use the Administration console for creating Messaging users. Look-up "provisioning users" in the Messaging admin guide. If you're using schema 1, use Delegated Administrator. If you're using schema 2, use commadmin.

Thanks for your reply! I've download the web pages and documents that you mentioned and read them. But I can't find the files named .OWdefaults and .Xdefaults in which I must add two new lines :
1 OpenWindows.StatusStyle.locale: imDisplaysInClient
2 OpenWindows.PreeditStyle.locale: onTheSpot
to set the XIM style and status. I try to create two new files .OWdefaults and .Xdefaults that contain lines above in tow directories :
1 /usr/openwin/lib/locale/OWdefaults
2 /export/home/lijian
but it doesn't work. I wonder whether there is something wrong above or I must write program using C++ in my own application.

Enclosed below is an information document. Please do refer to that for help in this regard. I would suggest ensuring you have the correct packges installed and creating the .OWdefaulkts and .Xdefault file in your home directory after the necessary additions as per documentation and then starting "openwin".

Verifying the Installed Locales
1.Reboot the system
Once you have added the localized packages, make sure to reboot the system before using the locale. This is not always needed, but is needed for some of the locales.
2.Setting the locale in your environment
When the system comes up, your target locale should be listed in the locale selection menu of dtlogin. Select it, and start the desktop from dtlogin If you are not using dtlogin (2.5.1 without CDE, for instance), set the LANG environment to your locale name. It is also advised to set LC_ALL to the same locale name.
From C shell, if you want to set the locale to ja (Japanese), for instance: % setenv LANG ja
% setenv LC_ALL ja
From Korn shell, if you want to set the locale to fr (French), for example: $ export LANG=fr $ export LC_ALL=fr Then, start openwin.
You could have locale sensitive X resources in your .Xdefaults or .OWdefaults. For instance:
OpenWindows.BasicLocale
If your selected locale does not seem to be activated, there is a chance that some of the resources are conflicting. It also happens that you may have font preference in your X resources. Remember that font availablity can be different per locale. Please eliminate locale dependent font settings in your environment when you test under different locales.
3.Checking the character output
Depending on whether you have installed Full locale or Partial locale, the strings on the desktop may be or may not be localized. Once the desktop is started, bring up a shelltool (or dtterm), and execute:
% date
The date command should print out the localized time data to you. By doing this, you have verified that the locale is correctly installed, and the fonts are loaded properly.
4.Checking the character input
Next thing to verify is the input mechanism for the locale. In one of
Chinese/Japanese/Korean locales, please also make sure t hat the system automatically starts a XIM (X Input Method) server. In these locales, the footer area for each shellWidget has extra space to display the current input mode string. Usually, Ctrl-space is assigned as the toggle key to turn on/off Asian language input. In Western European locales, XIM server is not started, and the extra footer area is not allocated either. One typical way to verify the character input mechanism using the US keyboard is to type in :-
Compose_key + a + double_quote
This key sequence will generate a-umlaut.
5.Ready to test your software
Now, you are ready to test your software in the target locale.
Asian Locales for Solaris 2.6
Note: Adding more than one asian locale can cause problems with the BCP packages. If you are going to add more than one asian locale, please do NOT add the BCP packages (SUNWxxbcp).
The asian locales that are supported are:
Japanese EUC Japanes e PCK Korean Korean UTF-8 Simplified Chinese Traditional Chinese Traditional Chinese BIG5
All Asian locales require the following packages:
SUNWale - Asian Language Environment Common Files
SUNWaled - Asian Language Environment Common Man Pages

IPhone 4s upgraded to iOS7 and I´m able to enter a new caldav calendar but I can´t find the calendar anywhere and the schedules are not in the calendar. The caldav server have been working on the iOS 6.1.3 efore very well! Any suggestions?

I tried to enter a caldav calendar to my iPhone 4s.
The same server and the same calendar have been working well tihin iOS 6.1.7.
But now on iOS 7 the caldav server and account is confirmed but don´t appear in the calendar so the schedules are also not shown in the calendar app.
Can anyone confirm that or has some suggestions?

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I have tried as you suggested, and when opening the "purchased" apps some have the icloud logo next to them, but I only have "OPEN" against "Find My iPhone". When opening it up, it goes through the same routine; needs to be updated before proceeding, and wouldn't update because I don't have IOS8.
Anything else I could try, or am I doomed!

How I migrated my caldav data (Contacts and Calendars) to Mavericks + Server

Hello,
I write this post to share with you the steps I had to take for correctly migrating my caldav database (containing data for Addressbook and Calendar Server) from a Lion Server to Mavericks with Server version 3.
The problem occured like this : after downloading and installing mavericks (from the Apple Store), and downloading/installing the Server Utility (version 3), everything migrated just fine, except I had an error message during the first launch of the Server utility, but since it eventually launched, and the services were running, I didn't notice anything at first.
But I rapidly saw a big problem : my caldav data was missing. If a client connected to their calendar application, they would get (after syncing with the server) a new empty calendar named "calendar" (this is typical of a fresh empty caldav database). Same for addressbook clients (empty contacts).
So I searched and read several post that helped me greatly :

BUT, what is different in mavericks, is this :
The postgres cluster that hosts the caldav data seems to have move (again!), and this is by exploring several config files that I figured which was the right socket to use to connect to the good postgres cluster.
The clues were in the file : /Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/private/etc/caldavd/caldavd-apple.p list
Where I found the precious parameter (under the Postgres section) :
<key>SocketDirectory</key>
<string>/var/run/caldavd/PostgresSocket</string>
What I also figured is that the user account to use for connecting to this postgres cluster is caldav, and not _postgres.
So here are basically the steps I had to take to reinstall my old database.
Step #0 :
First, you need to locate the dump of the old postgres database, I found that the migration process seemed to make a dump inside :
This method ONLY WORKS if you have the following file :
/Library/Server/Migrated/Library/Server/PostgreSQL/Backup/dumpall.psql.gz
If you have that file, you can extract it with the command :
gunzip /Library/Server/Migrated/Library/Server/PostgreSQL/Backup/dumpall.psql.gz
For the rest of the steps I assume this file is named /path/to/your/dump.psql
I think (but I'm not sure of it) that THIS precise dump is different than what you would get inside a manual dump, meaning that in this dump you have all the databases of the cluster. Again I'm not sure, but that's what I think since there are CREATE DATABASE instructions inside it).
If you don't have that file, perhaps you made a dump by hand.
If that's the case, I think that before Step #3 you will have to create an empty caldav database, BUT, I'm not sure the command "calendarserver_bootstrap_database -v" mentionned here will create the caldav in the right cluster (read above). Perhaps we could figured out together if that's your case.
Step #1 : stop the services
sudo serveradmin stop addressbook
sudo serveradmin stop calendar
Step #2 : drop the caldav database
sudo dropdb -h /var/run/caldavd/PostgresSocket -U caldav caldav
If you get this error message :
dropdb: database removal failed: ERROR: database "caldav" is being accessed by other users
DETAIL: There is 1 other session using the database.
then go to Step #2a, otherwise, go straight to Step #3
Step #2a : only if Step 2 didn't work, see above ! (taken from here)
# Connect to the postgres database
psql -h /var/run/caldavd/PostgresSocket -U caldav
# Terminate the current sessions
postgres=> select pg_terminate_backend(procpid) from pg_stat_activity where datname='caldav';
# Exit postgres
postgres=> \q
Step #3 : if your database dump is not from /Library/Server/Migrated/Library/Server/PostgreSQL/Backup/dumpall.psql.gz, then PERHAPS you will have to create manually an empty caldav database (see Step #0)
Step #4 : create the new database from the dump
sudo psql -h /var/run/caldavd/PostgresSocket -U caldav -f </path/to/your/dump.psql> caldav
A lot of things should be displayed, and I eventually got an error at the end :
psql:DataDump.sql:49844: \connect: FATAL: database "collab" does not exist
But in my case that didn't affect my migration.
Step #5 : restart services
sudo serveradmin start calendar
sudo serveradmin start addressbook

Oracle 64bit Server (From JD Edwards) and oracle 32 bit client showing ORA:12560 "TNS: protocol adapter error "??

I installed 64bit Oracle successfully and was able to connect to DB using SQL Developer and sqlplus (Oracle E1local and TNSListener is up and running). I installed Oracle 32bit client and copied both tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files to C:\app\Administrator\product\11.2.0\client\Network\admin. But if i am trying to access DB through Oracle 32bit client (thru cmd as sqlplus /sys as sysdba or thru sqlplus , it is throwing ORA:12560. "TNS: protocol adapter error ". (Both 62bit server and 32 client on same VM machine - Windows 2008 R2 ). I directly executed sqlplus from "C:\app\Adm\....client\bin", but it is still throwing same error and because of this JDEdward installation is not able to find if any database is running or not.!
My environment variables order: %PATH% = C:\app\Administrator\product\11.2.0\client\bin;c:\Oracle\E1Local\bin; I have seen all the previous threads and try setting ORACLE_HOME and PATH variable using CMD and tried accessing the database, but it fails all the time.

Will not allow me to add caldav account (Calendar couldn't log in to the CalDAV server "webdav.skedge.me"error message)or I get the not a secure server message with the option to continue...but then it sticks it wont continue

I WISH I HAD NOT UPGRADED...THIS IS A NIGHTMARE. I need to sync my appointment scheduler that is embedded in my website to my ical (which was easily done through publishing with the previous version) since I have upgraded I dont have the option to publish...but can add the cal DAV account, which I tried to do but I get a "Calendar couldn't log in to the CalDAV server “webdav.skedge.me”." error message if I go through edit ccount> add other account in system prefereneces otherwise I get a not secure server warning that will not continue when I select continue if I simply try to add an account using the + sign options at the bottom left of the systems preference pop up window
found a potenital fix (that I think would work if I could understand how to do what they are telling me to do) it said to configure webdav sharing for active directory accounts...tried to follow the instructions...could not understand them (very techy instructions).
FYI to any one that may find it in thier heart to answer this...I AM NOT COMPUTER LITERATE I am a veterinarian not a computer programer...so please but things in terms I can understand...i dont know what root access or server admin means...I dont know how to edit config files or even open directories with terminal ...i dont know what pico is or how to open it on my computer. I am installaing Oracle 10g database on windows 2008 Server(32-bit) and when the Database is getting cretaed and during the database files copying portion it's throwing the error :

I tried intsllaing 10g software alone and invoked DBCA and again during the database files copying portion it's throwing the same error
what could be the issue?

At some point of the installation for Internet Directory Configuration Assistant, there is an error:

After did some searching, I find I may need to install MS loopback adapter.
So I followed http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839013 to install the MS Loopback adapter.
After I installed, When I open the Network Connetcions, I found there are two local area connetcions. One of then called local area connection 2, and it's MS loopback adapter. I got a warning for local area connection 2, it says that my pc does not have a IP address assigned, and its status is : limited or no connectivity .
I tried to repair to establish the full connection by clicking on the repair button, but the process is failed.
I also tried to run command: tnsping orcl ( orcl is my database service name ), after installed the loopback adapter.
tnsping orcl, still got this error:

Mavericks-compatible CardDav and CalDav Server on PowerPC

I have an old PowerPC Mac Mini that I would like to set up as a CardDav and CalDav sync server for our household Mavericks computers to use for syncing their Contacts and Calendars, avoiding iCloud. The PowerPC Mac Mini is limited to running Mac OS X 10.5.8 Leopard (or Leopard Server). I have a legitimate copy of Leopard Server, but unfortunately, Leopard Server does not support CardDav (Contacts syncing).
I am looking for PowerPC / Leopard compatible solutions for a CardDav and CalDav server that is known to work on my PowerPC Mac Mini.
There are several tools out there, all of which require complex configurations, but I am concerned about the following:
* Compatibility with the old PowerPC Mac OS Leopard codebase.
* Compatibility with the Mavericks clients.
Does anyone have a running, working solution to provide CardDav and CalDav sync services to modern Mavericks clients from a PowerPC Mac running Leopard or Leopard Server?

Just a follow up:
I tried setting up Baikal to run on a Leopard Server in a VMware guest as a trial effort. If it had worked, I would have installed it on the PowerPC Mac Mini and posted the details here. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it work, despite investing several hours. It required many deviations from the written procedure. In fairness, the procedure was written for a Mac running Mavericks.
After investing a reasonable amount of time and effort in an obsolete PowerPC Mac, I decided that it is time to retire it and replace it with a new Intel Mac Mini running Mavericks Server that can run local Contacts and Calendar sync services for the family Macs, iPhones, and iPads on the home network. I am still doing basic setup on the new Mac, and am not ready to tackle Contacts and Calendar syncing yet.

Missing "On My Mac" Calendar Option in Mavericks when connected to caldav server

I manage a network of about 100 Macs and I am having some issues with the new calendar Application in Mavericks that I am hoping someone can help me with.
Most of our user's calendars are "On My Mac" calendars that are published to a WebDAV server where I use a web application named phpical to allow other users to view calendars directly on our staff intranet site. However we have a few calendars that multiple people need read/write access to so those have been set up on a CalDAV server. This worked fine for us until Mavericks was released.
Ever since Maverick's was released I am finding that as soon as I add a CalDAV account to the Calendar App, at least in some cases if not all, users completely lose access to the entire section of calendars labeled "On My Mac". Those calendars simply disappear.
I need to know what configuration change I need to make in order to allow the Maverick's Calendar application to work both with On My Mac calendars as well as calendars that are hosted on a CalDAV server at the same time.
It seems to me that I am missing something really simple here but so far I have not been able to figure this out. It really makes no sense to me that simply subscribing to a CalDAV calendar would cause a loss of access to On My Mac calendars. Can anyone shed any light on this subject?

Just a slight update that this does not seem to be consistent so I really must be missing something. In some cases Maverick's does seem to leave On My Mac calendars alone when CalDAV calendars are added while in other cases the On My Mac calendars seem to disappear. I really am not sure what might be going on here.

Can I sync my iPhone calendar with exchange server AND ical on my mac ?

I have been happily using my iPhone synced with my Macbook over usb via iTunes.
I have contacts and iCal syncing. I have a number of 'calendars' set up in iCal which allow me to view separate aspects of home and work but they all exist within iCal. iPhone just treats these as colour coded appointments (different colour for each ical calendar)
I really like this set up.
However, I just changed jobs to a firm where they have a hosted outlook exchange set up and I need to use the exchange calendar for work appointments and showing my availability.
I have managed to setup my iPhone to work with the Exchange server for email as well as in apple Mail on my mac. This has all worked fine. However, I hesitated when iPhone asked if i wanted to sync my contacts and calendar. I said no as I was unsure if my private calendar/contacts would be uploaded to the public work area.
In fact it seems that this is the least of my worries:
As I have read on apple support for iPhone:
"Note that after configuring an Exchange ActiveSync account, all existing contact and calendar information on the iPhone or iPod touch is overwritten. Additionally, iTunes no longer syncs contacts and calendars with your desktop computer. You can still sync your iPhone or iPod touch wirelessly with MobileMe services."
So I am really pleased that I didn't let it sync those and wipe out my personal data if that is really true.
But now I am unsure how best to enable myself to view and update the work calendar on exchange.
Also it would be nice to see work contacts on my iPhone.
Contacts
- although i have said no to sync contacts with Exchange in fact it looks like I can get contacts ok - when i send email from the Exchange account on the phone , it searches Exchange contacts on the server as i type in the TO box.
- also in Contacts on the iPhone I have a new group that has been created with the name of my Exchange account. The group appears to be blank when you go into it on the phone, but you can type in the search box and get contact details from the server just fine.
This seems workable for now for my purposes, although updating contacts is not going to be possible that way.
I'd like more info on that if poss but more importantly..
Calendar
- Unlike Contacts, no Calendar has been auto created for Exchange
- Unlike contacts, I can't see how I can view or search or create an appointment in my Exchange calendar on the iPhone
What is the best solution to this problem - I presume lots of people face the same dilemma. My initial research suggests that there are multiple ways round this but all of them look like workarounds with various disavantages.
Questions are
- Can't I just set up Exchange as one of my calendars in ical?
- Is it really true that I have to choose between syncing Exchange with work server OR syncing iCal with personal Macbook?
- What is the best work around for this?
At the moment I am seriously considering getting a separate iPhone for work and have that sync with Exchange fully although that seems a bit drastic and does not solve the problem of seeing work and home appointments on the same calendar.

Only if you're running Snow Leopard and your employer will allow access (different than iPhone/mobile device access, so most likely not), but not needed - keep reading.

No. It was true, but with the v3.0 software that changed - you can now sync your Exchange contacts and calendar over the air, and your Address Book and iCal via iTunes over the docking cable.

None needed. When you set up the exchange account, and choose to turn on syncing of contacts and calendars, you will be prompted to remove all other data, or keep it on the iPhone. Choose the keep option. Note that in that case, your personal data will not be uploaded to the Exchange server - the iPhone keeps them separate (although you can choose to view them in a merged fashion).
I have this set up on my phone (Exchange calendar along side personal and other calendars from iCal). Same for contacts. Works great.
