Caldera Graphics SCSI Driver - Removing

I guess I'm basically stupid but I can't seem to figure out how the "Caldera Graphics SCSI Driver" gets attached/installed when booting Solaris8 on my Sun Blade 100.
There is a startup script for Caldera Cameleo that I've disabled but that doesn't prevent this device driver from being attached/installed at boot time.
I've checked /etc/system but find no reference to the Caldera device driver there.
I've looked in /kernel/drv but, again, find no reference to it either in any sort of file name or as some sort of specification within any of the existing *.conf files.
I'm having difficulty (as in, no success whatsoever) getting an HP "SureStore DAT40" (C5683A C908, according to probe-scsi-all) configured (connected to a newly-added Sun dual-channel single-ended ultra-wide SCSI adapter (X6540A)) and added to /dev/rmt but, it seems to be ignored regardless of how many "boot -r" attempts I make.
Grasping at straws, here, I thought that this Caldera thing might be interfering so I'm trying to get rid of it. Even if it's not interfering I really don't want it now and I want to suppess it from attaching/ installing.
Can some kind soul point me in the right direction for removing this thing?

Your PC has on a on board video processor on the motherboard. If you remove the failed video card, then the bios will switch to the on board video video processor when it no longer detects a presence of a video card in the PCI-E x16 slot.
The ATI x1950 requires a 450 watt power supply and your PC only has a 250 watt power supply.

I added a 2nd internal SCSI drive into my 7500/100. It does not show up on the desk top. I rebuild the desktop reset the cuda and ran SCSIProbe. The computer starts up on the newly added drive. No sign from the original drive. Please help.

there are jumpers on the drives that need to be properly set. Both drives are set with the terminating resistor on, one needs to be off. Carefully note nthe placement of the existing jumpers then remove the jumper from the drive in the middle connector.

Pulling the scsi drive

My G4 has an extra 18g. scsi drive inherited from my G3 and I've been told the drive is going bad. I want to remove it and leave the 120g ide drive. Is it a simple matter of unplugging the scsi drive and taking it out of the machine? I use a scsi external scanner and cd writer so need to continue that connectivity. Once I pull the scsi drive, do I need to do anything with the cables so that the external peripherals still work?
Do I need to press the cuda switch when I remove the drive or is that done only when adding hardware?

I put a mechanics stethoscope on both the ide and scsi drives after hearing some unusual noise. The ide was quiet as a mouse. The scsi was screeching like crazy. I suspect the bearing or some other mechanical component was going out and it was suggested to get it out of there before it blew and caused problems with the good drive (ide). The sound the scsi drive was making sounded like a dry bushing that has lost its lubrication so I'm assuming the central bearing is on it's last leg. That particular scsi drive is probably 10 years old. The ide drive is around 4 years old.

Creating a backup of functional drive removed from broken laptop

I have a new Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion that is damaged and won't turn on. I have the drive removed and can access it using a docking station attached to my iMac running 10.6.
What is the simplest way to backup the data from this drive so that after the laptop is repaired I can return my data to the Macbook Pro?

Using Disk Utility to clone a drive will automatically erase the Destination drive if it isn't already erased. To backup to a drive with stuff already on it you would need to use a backup utility like one of these:

Be sure the backup utility is NOT configured to erase all files on the destination that are not on the source. If there are files identical to those already on the drive, then they will be overwritten.

Have Upgrade Graphic Card Driver, But Still Cannot Adjust Screen Brightness and Sleep Button Not Showing After Clean Installation of Windows 8.1

I have done clean installation of Windows 8.1 on my HP Pavilion G4.
Then I realize that I cannot put my computer on sleep mode and cannot adjust screen brightness.
I understand that those problems caused by the graphic card driver.
My computer is running on AMD Radeon HD 6400 series.
Thus, I manually search on internet and found a latest graphic card update on microsoft site that is claimed compatible on windows 8.1 (link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/dn344644.aspx).
I've upgraded it into the latest one. I've check on Device Manager, the driver is running well.
But my problem did not solved!

How about go to Device Manager, then uninstall Graphic driver and restart your computer, system will install its build in graphic drver. You can have a try.
In addition, access to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Brightness and set its value to 100 for test.

SOS!! SOS!! HELP ME!!! The mobo won't load/boot windows from the SCSI Drive!!! HELP!!!

Ok so i got the board and the crucial RAM with a new enermax 450W power supply. I am running the 1MB A64 3400+ CG on this board.
I am using the Seagate cheetah 15.3K SCSI drive with a LSI 21320 SCSI controller

I am also running a IDE drive on the primary IDE channel set as slave.
I went to the bios and changed the boot order to use the SCSI HD as the first boot device and proceed to intall windows XP. I pressed F6 to install the SCSI drivers and everything went fine until the reboot after all the files has been copied. I would get an error message saying something like:
"NTLDR cannot find boot drive etc"
I have no idea what to do...i tried everything and i am 100% sure that its not my SCSI HD or SCSI card.

Also be sure that the LSI controller is configured to use the Seagate drive to boot from. There is usually an option of which channel to boot from in the HBA BIOS.

OS 8.1 - Trying to partition an external scsi drive and backup data.

Have an Apple PowerMac 6000 series minitower at work. It runs a program called 4D, that is a database we use to catalog images. Since I've been with the company, there has been no backup of the database, as an external scsi drive had died and never been replaced.
Since the system is running OS 8.1, I wasn't sure how I could do any sort of network backup, and in the end I managed to get a new 50-pin scsi 50GB LaCie External Hard drive with the 25-pin cable to connect to the PowerMac. Connected it yesterday, and it did appear on the desktop as you'd expect.
But when I went to point 4D to the drive, it didn't seem to recognize the file system. I tried erasing the drive, but it had the same probem. Norton Utilities is on the mac, so I tried replacing the partition. Specifically, I tried creating two partitions. One that's 40GB, that I could do 4D backups to. The other, the remaining space (about 7GB) so I could try to copy the entire drive to that partition and maybe even boot from it if the other drive failed.
However, the drive was still mounted when I tried to repartition and it ended up causing an error. I tried rebooting, and the drive wasn't showing on the desktop, but it still wouldn't repartition. Not knowing was else to do, I low level formatted the drive, told it to write zeros to it, and then create the two partitions. Given I was doing all this on a Saturday and didn't know how long it would take, I left it running in the background to check on Monday.
Anyone have any experience with OS 8.1? Is there a program like Carbon Copy Cloner that works with that OS? And any thoughts on what I'd need to do to get this drive working as indicated above? I started using Apple again with OS X, and it's quite a bit different than 9 and previous. Could sure use some help.

I would use the Apple utility Drive Setup (which comes with a normal OS 8.1 install) to initialize and partition the drive, rather than Norton or any other third-party utility.
As far as the format type goes, select Mac OS Extended when asked.

Is there a program like Carbon Copy Cloner that works with that OS?
Generally such is not needed with OS 9 and earlier OS versions. All pre-OSX OS's and software can be copied using a Finder (drag and drop) copy process, and remain usable.
This means that the System Folder on the internal drive can be dragged to the icon of the external drive and dropped into it. Ditto any/all additional folders, those containing the programs and documents.
You should be able to successfully do a test boot using the freshly-copied OS on the external drive; this is the best way to verify the integrity of the copied OS.
Can't recall if aliases were used in OS 8.1. If they were, it may be necessary to 'fix' any of them used, since the pathname contained in an alias is not corrected when it is copied to another drive - it continues to point to the original original.
You can also copy the entire source drive to the external one in one action - drag the iccon of the internal drive to that of the external one and drop it in.
After Finder gets done copying everything (this may take some time, so disable any sleep mode or screensaver), there will be a new folder on the external volume - this folder will be named the same as the internal drive. Inside that folder will be a copy of everything that was on the internal drive, including everything left lying around on the desktop and anything left unemptied in the Trash (these will be placed in new folders named "Desktop" and "Trash" respectively).
In order to make that external volume bootable using the freshly copied OS, move the System Folder out of the folder it was copied into, so that it is at the root level of the drive, meaning visible in the window that appears when you first open the drive's icon.

I have 2 partitions, one for Mavericks and one for Windows 8. I would like to do a clean install of Mavericks. I have already redownloaded Mavericks and I'm about to put it on a USB so I can boot from it and reinstall the operating system. I read somewhere that to format your hard drive and do a clean install, you have to boot into the USB and then you'll have an option to format your hard drive from there. I'm not sure if that's correct so that's another thing I would like to inquire about.
Another thing I would like to know about, although not relevant to my previous questions, is this: Is it possible to get a free download of Mountain Lion (legally, of course)? I would much rather do a clean install of Mountain Lion than Mavericks, but I've searched google and there seems to be no way to get it for free. However, I did read that it's possible to get it free within 30 days of purchasing your Mac but that 30 days have long passed for me.
So my 3 questions are the following:
1) Will formatting my hard drive remove my already existing bootcamp partition? (If it does, I don't mind but I would still like to know)
2) How exactly do I format my hard drive?
3) Is it possible to get Mountain Lion for free so I can downgrade?

Formatting a HDD will delete all user data on the drive. Yes you can do it on an older MBP by connecting to it via USB, but do you really want to? If the repair shop says the HDD is functional, there is no need to wipe it and reinstall the OSX. The problem then is something else.
It would be helpful if you indicated the EXACT model/year MBP that you have.

Can't install a graphic card driver.

Hi,
I recently installed Windows XP Home Edition on my Mac succesfully and installed all the drivers etc...
But one day, I decided to install an official updated graphic card driver from the nVidia official site. When I run the install process, it says that it can't find compatible drivers with my hardware, even though I downloaded the correct version of it ( 9M GeForce series for notebooks for Windows XP 32bit, and my 9600M GT was in the list of compatible cards)
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that my Windows isn't really a PC or something, that it is emulated I dunno. I haven't installed an anti-virus yet, maybe it's because of that ?
Please note that I installed Windows only to play games, so is it a problem not having the latest graphic card ?

sometimes I wonder why respond when it is usually just to direct people to other forums, which seems to be a habit, and they would have directed you to VMware or Parallels site normally.
I figure people do know what they are doing after a while, and don't install drivers unless they are running Windows, and I detest the "I'm running Boot Camp" which is senseless, Boot Camp is just not something you can "run" and is only a set of drivers (and services or tasks).
Okay... as I alluded to, XP doesn't allow installing graphic drivers. Not embedded or mobility. People had to run to modified drivers from laptop2go or elsewhere. It is up to Apple etc to normally provide such drivers.

With Windows 7, uninstalling graphic driver in Device Manager and let Windows install its own might work.

How to check Graphic Card driver?

How can I found out what Graphics Card driver I am running on my MacBook Pro? I open About This Mac, click on More Info, look at Graphics/Displays, but I'm not sure which number or whatever is the driver.

I'm going stick my head out on a limb and guess you are recent PC convert and are used to having to keep on top of the latest drivers and such. If that's the case with a Mac you don't need to do that and cannot download graphics card updates. What you can do is run Software Update and if there are any new updates (graphics or otherwise) it will let you know. It will then download and install those updates to your system. I believe what you are looking at is System Profiler which (as you have already seen) doesn't provide any more specifics than what you have already seen.

You need to be running DirectX 9 at a minimum and it's not on your PC per PC image that you posted. You can try installing Directx but I suspect that you might need a video card. If you need a video card, then it's an older AGP style, 1.5v card that would be rated for Directx 9 and would work with the power supply size in your PC.

Adding 2nd hard drive(IDE 40gig) to B&W G3 w/ 9gig SCSI drive

Recently got a 450 B&W G3 with a 9gig SCSI ultra something drive in it already and i would like to add a 40gig IDE drive as a second. the scsi drive is hooked through a scsi card and is the main drive. i want to just add the second drive for more storage. when i plug up the drive and start up, it does not see the drive. I know i'm missing something little to get this to work, but I don't know alot of the techincal terms and meanings to ask the right questions. any help or if someone can direct me to an older article that might help would be great!!! Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
Make sure the drive is jumpered correctly. There is a block of exposed pins at the same end of the drive where the power cable and data cable are attached. On those exposed pins will be one or more little plastic-looking things bridging pin pairs - these are the jumpers.
There should be a label affixed to the drive in the vicinity of the jumper pin block; this label depicts the various configurations of where jumpers should be placed for various settings.
For your model Mac, you should use the jumper setting for "Master". Exception - if the drive is a Western Digital brand, it may have a setting named "Single" - if so, you should use that when the drive is the only device on the bus.
If you have not yet initialized (formatted) the drive, do so. Most drives are not usable until they have been prepared for a Mac by initializing the drive; initializing a drive places Mac drivers on it, and structures the platter for use by the OS.
You can use OSX's Disk Utility to initialize the drive. There should be sufficient info in OSX's Help section to use Disk Utility to do that. Some items of note -
• If you want that drive to be accessible when the machine is booted to OS 9 at some time, be sure to select the option to install OS 9 drivers.
• Select "Mac OS Extended" as the format for the drive.
