Calendar alert problem?

I'm having a strange new issue with Calendar:
When creating an event I usually send myself an email alert. I am no longer able to do this - or add an invitee. I receive the following message: "You must add your own card and email address in Address Book to be able to use mail alarms."
I have never had this message in the past and I have my "own card in Address Book".

Singingsister,
Were you able to "stop this madness?" My calendar is doing the exact same thing.  I will set the reminder to NONE but it adds the first alert at 10 min before as well as a second alert for 10 min before. And if I forget to go in and manually change it I get crazy double reminders.  Ah I just went in to change a repeating event and I had the alert at NONE yet it added 2 alerts.. I swear my phone is possessed. HELP ME PLEASE!!!

  • Calendar alerts problem

I'm having trouble with the Calendar events ALWAYS defaulting to alerting 10 mins before the event. I've tried everything, all the setting, tried setting all the alerts to "none" for "this event only" and also "all future events" and it STILL defaults to alerting me! This is so frustrating, is there a simple solution to this?? I really don't feel like going through all the events all the time changing the settings...

Now here is something additional... I had iCloud turned off, but that did not seem to make a difference at all... I put them all in on my iPad mini and when they transfered over to the iPad and the iPhone they are all different. One could show First Alert "15 minutes before", and the other two could be opposites... Or two could be the same and the other is opposite....
I just hope it works and I get my 15 minute alert time until Apple gets this problem together..... I am wondering if this will be another bug that they don't fix or if IOS 8 or IOS 9 comes out and will correct..... Time to start searching for a 3rd party calendar....
Plus I am curious what other problems their are on the latest update... Errrrrrrr

  • Two iPhones. One account. Can I have separate calendar alerts?

I have a new 4s. My wife has my old 3GS. We are using the same iTunes/iCloud apple I'd account. It's nice because she can make her own calendar and I can make my own calendar. If I don't want to see her calendar I just deselect it in the calendars to view menu. I can see her stuff if I want to and she mine by going the other way. The problem is Calendar ALERTs. Even if I've deselected her calendar, my iPhone still beeps a reminder at me from one of her Calendar alerts and vice versa. Is there some way to make it so that the alerts only occurr if I've selected her calendar to view?
I also have kinda the same problem with reminders. She gets mine and I get hers even though I've got two separate "lists" of reminders. Can I stop that?
Also a similar deal with contacts. Can we have separate contacts lists and only see the others when we want to?

    No, sorry.

  • I can no longer determine a calendar alert snooze time?

I'm very dependent on my calendar alerts and use them for recurring events like bill paying and unique events like meetings and doctor appointments. Up until OS 10.7 (Lion), when an alert popped up and I wanted to continue being alerted of that event, I could simply choose the snooze time (be it 5 minutes, an hour, a day or a week) and could continue to be re-reminded until I chose not to be.
Last week I upgraded to Mountain Lion so I could take maximum advantage of iCloud and my new iPhone 5. After much frustration and searching, it's apparent that the option of determining the snooze time in "Calendar", formerly known as "iCal" is simply no longer an option. Why remove a core feature of a core app? I'm stuck using the default snooze time as set in the calendar app, then, when the alert does pop up, I'm stuck with either dismissing it completely or hitting "snooze" only to be reminded every 15 or 20 minutes. This works okay for events with a short lag time, but in other cases (I will sometimes set up a bill payment reminder days before it's due so I have time to cover the due amount in my bank account) I'm stuck having either it pop up incessantly for days EVERY 20 minutes for DAYS or dismissing it, risking missing the payment due date.
I know from scanning these forums that a lot of other people are unhappy with the dumbed down functionality of this core app. I haven't been able to find an alternative to the app from any third-party. It sounds like both "busycal" and "fantastical" are dependent on Apple's calendar app so I don't know if they will solve the problem or not. I don't really wnat to spend money on a third party app just to get back a core function of an app I've been dependent on for years.
If anyone has found a good alternative to help get back this simple, but critical functionality, I'd love to know about it. Thanks!

I have also submitted feedback to Apple about this, as I think they have rendered Calendar all but useless by stripping out the ability to set sound cues, and to specify the lag time when hitting the "snooze" button. I completely agree, this is a serious and unprofessional messtep to remove a core function as though it were a trivial feature of the software. I've been a loyal Apple consumer for two decades, and this really makes me angry.
I am hopeful the wonderful people at Apple will restore this function with the next update to the OS.

  • Iphone 4s calendar alert issue

I tend to put 2 alerts on my calendar events, one for 1 day before and the second one for 1 hour before (or some other on the day of event).  I have noticed that when I put in the first alert for 1 day before and then enter the second alert for 1 hour before and click done they have somehow been reversed, the first alert is now 1 hour before and the second alert is 1 day before.  I have to click them again and change them to the proper order, this usually take about 3 tries to get them to stay as I want them.  I can them save the event and all is good.  I was at the Apple store and the staff duplicated this issue so I know I'm not the only one experiencing this nuissance.  Has anyone else come across this?  I do hope the upcoming update will fix it.

    Update since Genius visit:
    1) Apple is working on an update
    2) There is no awareness at Apple of this calendar alert issue as a bug, hence it is not being addressed/worked on
    3) Solutions offered by Genius have not resolved this issue.
Solutions offered by Genius, in order of which to try first:
    1) Delete calendar data from iPhone: Settings>iCloud>Calendars OFF and then restore data from iCloud: Calendars ON
    2) Reset iPhone settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings
    3) Restore to factory settings: Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings, then restore data from iCloud and in-app backups.
    4) Use another calendar app (seriously)
Of course, if the bug is actually part of the iOS software (could it be?) then no amount of erasing and restoring data will fix the issue.  I completed the first two options with no change, and am not willing to do the third option because I am not interested in going through the process of backing up, then restoring all my third-party apps.
My solution: raise awareness of this issue with Apple, so that it can be worked on and fixed.   I have reported it as a bug through Apple's feedback module: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html and I encourage-- no, ask-- you to do the same, if you are experiencing this issue.  I provided a link to this forum topic to show the variety and detail of problems.
Are you sick of missing alerts, fiddling endlessly, coming up with workarounds, paying for unreliable software, and not being responded to?  I am.  It's time to rally!

  • Can't Silence Calendar Alerts

I can't get alerts in iCal to silence. I've turned to "off" the "Calendar Alerts" option in the "Sounds" settings, but to no avail. I use a lot of alerts in iCal on my notebook, which is fine when I'm using my notebook, but I'd rather not have alerts sounding on my iPhone (most of the time). I used to think that only those iCal events that were synced from my notebook were the ones that would sound, but tests show that events created on my iPhone are also oblivious to the Calendar Alerts/Off setting. Searching this forum reveals that this has been a problem since a posting in late July, but 1.1.1 didn't fix it. Does anyone know how to make this feature work? Thanks. (Oh, and if the "Calendar Alerts" setting doesn't turn off calendar alerts, what does it do?)

Yes, this is driving me crazy. And it's only recent, for me. In other words, it had always vibrated as a calendar alert; I could live with that. Now it's vibrating and chirping too, even though sounds are set to OFF. I've submitted a bug report and encourage everyone to. And if anyone has figured out how to disable this, please let me know. iPhones should be seen and not heard, unless I say otherwise

  • Mavericks calendar alerts by email not working

    Hi,
I've just noticed that my calendar alerts by email have stopped working since installing Mavericks. Is this a known problem?
    Thanks

Hmm, this seems to be working again now - most strange.

  • Cannot silence calendar alert with multiple appointments

I've noticed that I cannot silence a calendar alert if I have more than one appointment at the alert time.  This is not a problem if I only have a single appointment.  Has anyone else noticed this?  It's not new to this version of iOS.

thanks for the reply.  I did see that option on google calendar, but it isn't available for outlook and it would also have to be done the originator of the meeting (or I would have to manually do it to any meeting I accept).
I was hoping to find the same functionality that I had on my old blackberry.

  • Calendar alerts open contact

I am sure this question exists but I could find the answer using the terms I was searching with.
When I receive a calendar alert on my lock screen and choose to view it I am sent to the contact who sent the event in my contacts list. Should it not take me to the event in my calendar app?
Anyone else have this problem? Solutions?

  • Calendar alert issue

    Hi all,
I've got a minor annoying issue. My wife (iPhone 4 with iOS6) and I (iPhone 5 wiht iOS6) share an apple account. On iCloud, we've got two calendars. The first is called "Calendar" which is there for us to put all of our general home stuff (birthdays, vacations, appts, etc) and is intended for both of us to use. I've got a second calendar called "Dan" which is just for me with a bunch of stuff she doesn't care about.
Here's the issue. In Calendar, she clicked "Calendars" and deselected the "Dan" under "iCloud Calendars". The only other calendar her Calendar app now shows is our default shared calendar. So, anything I put on the "Dan" calendar no longer shows up... yay! HOWEVER, alerts from my "Dan" calendar still appear on her phone. In other words, if I put an event called "test" on JUST my "Dan" calendar with an alert to go off at 1:00, at that time, BOTH of our phones go off and display alerts. The Event still doesn't show up in her calendar though.
SO, my question is, how can she make it so alerts from "Dan" calendar don't show up on her phone? It's annoying for her, and not cool for me if I want to put in an event that she shouldn't know about.
    Thanks,
    Dan P.

  • All notifications Off, but calendar alerts won't stop?

I've loaned my old iPhone (3G running iOS 4.2.1 with no SIM card) to an elderly relative, just as an "iPod Touch" for ONE purpose only: to run a 24/7 web app I made that shows the time and date in super large yellow print. (It also shows the time of day in natural English, like "late morning," because AM vs. PM confuses her.) She loves it and relies on it! It solves a daily problem in her life that no clock has been able to solve. She is no longer embarassed not to know what time of day it is when people call/visit. She can now be self-reliant in a small but important way.
    But it's having a problem.
She is not tech-savvy and has memory problems, so I need to keep the experience as simple as any wall clock--nothing interactive. I have turned on EVERY parental restrictriction (apps are all hidden) and moved all the Apple apps and Settings to page 2. (If she hits the Home button by accident, page 1 only has one icon--my clock. Even the Dock is empty.) I turned off locking, sleeping, and vibrating. I set the volume to zero and set ALL Notifications completely Off.
And yet... my old scheduled calendar reminders (monthly bills, rent, taxes, etc.) keep popping up! You can imagine how bad that is to someone in a (sometimes) confused state. Her clock is telling her she has to pay some bill or do something urgent! A caregiver who visits every other day dismisses the alerts (about 1 per week) but it's still a problem. Sometimes her vision is good enough to actually read the alerts if she gets close, and regardless, the alerts block the clock display.
Even worse, if she ever accidentally touches the screen, the alert might send her into the calendar app which would be utterly confusing. If that happens even once, she will be sure she has broken it. She'll blame herself, and this clock that is such a relief and comfort to her will become a source of fear and stress, just like her microwave and her cordless phone. Technology terrifies her, and even other wall clocks have been a problem. (She always thinks electrical devicses are interfering with each other--like thinking that she has lost some of her TV channels because she hit the wrong button on her phone, or thinking her fridge is ruining the food because the microwave clock started blinking.)
Any thoughts? Why would it still be showing calendar alerts?
I live in another state entirely, so I'm hoping this is something simple that I can talk the caregiver though on the phone. (Deleting calendar events manually, say, or wiping and reinstalling the phone, would be last resorts--those would have to wait until I next visit in person.)
    TIA!

I have just tested this on my own device and discovered that even with notifications in the Notifications Centre turned off, if you have alerts set in the calendar entry they will still display and bleep on the screen.  You may need to go into the entries that are appearing on her device and remove the alert.

  • Ipad change calendar alert sound

Is there a way, or 3rd party product, to change the alert sound in the calendar on the iPad? Apple has become way too popular at work, just about everyone has an iPad or an iPhone synced with their outlook calendars. The problem is that when the alert goes off I have no idea if it is mine or someone elses, as they all sound the same.

Settings>Sounds>Calendar Alerts. There are a bunch of sounds from which you can choose.

  • Duplicate calendar alerts

Whenever I create an event in calendar on my iphone running iOS 8.1 it seems to create duplicate alerts in calendar on my MacBook Air running Yosemite. This is driving me bonkers. Anyone having this problem too? How to sort it?

I solved my double alerts problem by deleting my old gmail calendar.  I had imported the calendar into Apple Calendar and then disabled the gmail calendar by unchecking the box next to it in Apple Calendar so the events did not show up on the calendar, but the alerts were still appearing.  After I deleted the calendar the alerts stopped so now I only get an alert from the imported event in Apple Calendar.
