Calendar appointment times and timezones in new Bold

Hi All,
I'm new to the world of BB and have a question about time zones - I know this is a drama subject for a lot of smart phones, but the Bold has a couple of options I'm not familiar with.
I have a new Bold running v5.0.0.743 and I have set the date/time settings to;
Auto adjust time zone - OFF
Set time - AUTOMATIC
I set 90% of my appointments in Office 2003 with no option to account for different time zones and to keep my Outlook and BB appointments reading the same, I don't want my BB to adjust timezones, but it would be nice to automatically adjust to local time.
Could somebody please let me know what my phone will do with these settings if I travel into a new time zone?
Cheers
John K

Hi josefd
Yes, I can work out how to get round this problem but I very much feel that it is a problem that Nokia should resolve if they want this phone to be used by business travellers. I am not prepared to operate in the way you suggest as I think it is very much open to human error, and also very reliant on the phone networks working properly.
I think you need to experience this before you discover how annoying it is. Compare it to the old paper diaries. If you had an appointment with a colleague in France next week for 2pm, you would write 2pm in your diary. you would not check what time zone they were in and then write a different time in your diary .Why should I convert times to UK times just because this phone does something so unusual?
As I said this approach is very prone to human error, and also relies upon the local networks and the phone to update the time correctly as it is particularly annoying if the network in the coutry you visit is unrelaible (or is it the phone?). For instance in Costa Rica the time never changed which made it even more confusing.
All Nokia need to do is give us an option such as "the time has changed - do you want to change your calendar entries Yes/No". Surely that would be easy enough?

    I use an iPhone 5, and want to sync my phone calendar and contacts with Outlook 7 calendar and contacts; two problems--I now get dozens of new calendars every time, and my outlook calendar will not sync at all.; meaning that date entries on Outlook do not come across ot iPhone.

    It is unusual for the calendar to sync and not the contacts in Outlook. I've worked with Outlook for years. You didn't answer what computer OS you are using. If it is Windows, have you tried to reset the sync history in iTunes? Do that by opening iTunes, go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and click on reset sync history. If you have done this and it doesn't help, then we can try and run scanpst.exe on your Outlook file and see if there are any errors. Search your computer for that file, however it normally resides in one of the Microsoft Office folders in the folder Program files. After that, you can see if it will sync.

  • IPod touch keeps changing the date, time, and timezone on its own

    Yesterday I noticed that the iPod was showing the wrong date, so I fixed it. I also checked the computer I was syncing to, but it had the correct date, time, etc. Now when I woke up the iPod today, the time, date, and timezone had all been changed again. Has anybody else had this problem, or know what I need to do to stop it? Thanks!

    When you sync the iPod, you have to sync it with a "new" iTunes window.
    Before you connect the iPod, exit out of iTunes, then reload it, and finally connect your iPod to it.
    I believe there was a software update that fixed this...

  • LSO - Issue with Factory calendar End Year and creation of New courses

    Hi,
    Recently we are experiencing an Issue in LSO with the system hanging while creation of "Course with Resources".
    Upon Analysis we identified that while creating course with resources and by checking "Period without Days off" option references the set factory calendar in LSO config and since this set Factory Calendar has an End Year in 2005, the system hangs trying to reference this factory calendar.
    For some course types we are unable to even enter the course creation Data screen. These course types have " Main schedule" (with / without pattern) pre defined.
    The issue does not seem to occur if we extend the factory calendar to current period or future.
    Please let me know if anybody has faced this issue, if extending the factory calendar the right solution and what is the impact of exteding a factory calendar in HR module. Is the factory calendar referenced anywhere else in HR module?
    Note: in LSO config you can set the factory calendar in Training and Event Management>SAP Learning Solution>Training Management>Basic settings>Control Options for Days Off,

  • More date problems: Missing time and timezones

    I looked over the board for any past advice, but couldn't find anything directly relating to this. Then, it maybe my poor ability to search properly. So, I'll appologise in advance.....
    I'm changing the value of a date, using a class I wrote. When I do so, the date returned seems to be timeless. On top of that, if I try to format it with a timezone 'z', I get the exception:
    Unparseable date: "2/6/2003 9:59:17"
    Here's the code I'm using:
    //My date class snippits.
    public void setValue(String inDate) throws ParseException, Throwable
    TimeZone tz = TimeZone.getTimeZone("GMT"+getTimeZone());
    //Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance(tz);
    SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy HH:mm:ss z");
    sdf.setLenient(true);
    sdf.setTimeZone(tz);
    theDate.setTime(sdf.parse(inDate).getTime());
    isNull = false;
    public void setNull()
    theDate = null;
    isNull = true;
    public Timestamp getValue()
    return theDate;
    // Code for when I retreve the value
    Timestamp timestamp = ((theDateClass)theResult).getValue();
    DATE theDate = new DATE(timestamp.toString());
    Any ideas or help is much appreciated.
    Cheers.

    I haven't been trying it out, but it looks to me your
    problem could be due to an inconsistency between the
    two...
    yoou expect two digits for both day and month, but
    provide only one.It parses the date without exception if there's no timezone on the end of the format. That's what's puzzling me.

  • Calendar appointment times

    When syncing, my calendar appointments from 2003 Outlook are showing up in the iphone one hour early than scheduled. Calendar events are syncing one hour in the other direction when coming from the iphone to Outlook. Thanks for your help!

    I've got a similar problem. Some (not all) of my appointments are one hour earlier on the handheld iPhone than on the desktop MS Outlook 2003.
    Both units are enabled timezone support to midwest U.S. w/Daylight Savings Time. This problem appeared around the weekend of the switch to DST, and I thought at first that I was just making mistakes in time entries.
    Please help; it's almost as bad as having no calender, to have one that may or may not be accurate.

  • IPhone Calendar Appointment time syncing issue

    I have noticed lately that appointments I enter into my iCal on my Desktop when synced with my iPhone are showing up an hour later. For example: If I made an appointment from 9AM to 10AM it will (when synced) show up on my iPhone 10AM to 11AM. I am not sure if it has to do with the latest iPhone update (1.1.3) or with Leopard. Has anyone had this issue? Any thoughts on how to resolve it? Thanks.

    One thing to check out is on your iphone go to settings > general > date and time.
    In date and time, make sure your time zone is set correctly.
    If the time zone is set correctly, turn time zone support off.
    Then make sure your date and time is set correctly.
    Power off the iphone by holding down the power button on the top of the iphone until you see the slide to power off.
    Now power the iphone back on.
    Connect the iphone to the computer and sync.
    Hope this helps.

  • Calendar travel time and places

    1. I keep my working schedule in Calendar. How can I tell Calendar that I return back home after work? With travel time activated it always calculates travel time from my office instead from my home. My office is north of my home, most private events happen south of my home, so the time difference can be as much as 30min. Work finishes at 5pm, I'm home at 5:20 and I have an event at 7pm 20min away from home. Calendar now tells me I have 40min to drive instead of just 20, because it thinks I'm still at work even though the event "Work" has ended at 5pm...
    2. Calendar does not find places even though I use the exact same phrase as it's shown in Maps. One example is the Belgian race track "Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps". I know there are work-arounds for this problem as I could just use the next town. But there are places where simply no town is around. Take the English racetrack of "Cadwell Park" for example. Typing "Cadwell Park" suggests a place in Georgia instead of the English racetrack that shows up as a POI in Maps.
    I have the same problem with a local restaurant. Again, I know where the place is, but for user comfort I'd like to have Calendar regocnize POI's shown in Maps.

    From Calendar's help:
    To set your starting location, Calendar first looks for your location in any events that are up to three hours before this event. If Calendar doesn’t find a location, it uses your work address during work hours and your home address during other hours. (Your work hours are set in Calendar preferences using the “Day starts at” and “Day ends at” menus.) If your card in Contacts doesn’t have your addresses, Calendar uses your computer’s current location.

  • IPhoto knows time and timezone, but punts anyway?

    I have an iPhone video of a noontime clock performance in Munich.  iPhoto in Seattle displays 3AM for the clip, which is correct Zulu time, but esthetically stupid. Can I get iPhoto to use German time for display?  The clip location is set to Munich, so the app has the info it needs.  (I know I can brute-force a time change, but I'd hate to just fudge the data, since the underlying system knows the right answer.)
    Richard

    Terence,
    I understand the limitations you mention (and do recall some agonies dealing with DV video clips when the camcorder clock was mis-set).  However, the information you deny is manifestly there.  The camera in this case was an iPhone so it knows GMT for the creation of the clip.  This is verified because the clip's Info display in iPhoto displays the correct time, but just uses the wrong time-zone, PDT, (ignoring the Places info I have entered).  And iPhoto correctly handles the interleaved still photos I took with the iPhone, using the correct European time zone for their Info displays.  I haven't verified whether the Places info for the various files was automagically generated by the iPhone, or was imposed by iPhoto entry, since my iPhone went in and out of Airplane Mode on any given day.

  • Change calendar start time and also show from Sunday-Saturday

    HI All,
    Is there any way to have the calendar in CRM show from 7am-6pm instead of 8am-6pm? I can't seem to find a way to do this.  Also can I change the week calendar to show Sunday-Saturday instead of Monday-Sunday?
    thanks,
    Tom

    Hi Tom,
    Your info helps me a lot also.
    Especially for your second question about start day of the week.
    There is also an attribute for the chtmlb tag for dateNavigator: firstDayOfWeek.
    When tracing this attribute, I found that in current standard system, this is effected by a badi.
    Badi definition: CALENDAR_DEFINITION
    Current standard implementation class: CL_ISO_CALENDAR_DEFINITION
    method IF_CALENDAR_DEFINITION~GET_FIRST_DAY_OF_WEEK
    coding is
    weekday = if_calendar_definition=>c_monday.
    You may try to change it to
    if_calendar_definition=>c_sunday
    Regarding your comments "Just wish the starting day for the week will be as easy", this requirement has been raised to product management team in 2008. But don't know when it will be realized. :P

  • HT4576 I want to set up appointment times for an overseas trip before I go, and see those local times in the places I visit, but also be able to set new appointments while I am traveling, in the local times.  Can I do this with Time Zone Support?  If not,

    I want to set up appointment times for an overseas trip on my iPhone 4S before I go, and have them appear as I put them in (for the local time) when visiting other countries.  I also want to be able to adjust times and set up new appointments when I am overseas for the local time.  Can I do this using the Time Zone Support or any other way?
    Basically I want to do what I can do with a piece of paper - write down the time for when I will be there, and have it viewable when I am there, but also be able to put down new times while there.

    Hi.
    Regarding your question about reverting back- yes, I think you can. If you make a backup of your current configuration in Server Admin (by dragging the configuration file to your desktop- cool, no?) then you can load that one back in should your configuration not work. If you have the manual from Apple it should describe this process.
    Network speed post-op? I don't think you will need to worry. Even using home directories stored on our OS X Server there is no network slowdown (that you can notice or that impacts the wider LAN in any case). It shouldn't slow down access to files, applications (which still come from the local drive anyway) or individual internet connections (even with filtering).
    In our experience some of these things have actually got faster- but a lot of that is user perception. Same goes for people who will know you have configured the server and that they are now accessing files through your network from the server, and who really think it is slower. File coming from your local hard drive will always be quicker- but network access isn't that bad that it will make you barf and run in the opposite direction.
    Something to look at: connection speed between clients and switching technology in your office. In other words, what kinds of switches are you using, what line speed have you got (100MB/s?) and is the connection from your server to the switch gigabit? Make sure it is.
    Enjoy

  • Why is it when you set a calender event in outlook 2010 (in UK) with a reminder alarm for 30mins prior) and have the iphone set to keep the appointment time relative to the local country time that you travelled to, the alarm time is still at uk time ?????

    why is it when you set a calendar event in outlook 2010 (whilst i am in UK) with a reminder alarm for 30mins prior to the appointment time) and have the iPhone set to keep the appointment time relative to the new country time that i have travelled to (this works OK), the alarm time is still relative to the UK time and not in sync with the local country time like the main appointment is.
    Does anyone know the answer please.

    This has to do with the Time Zone Support selected in your phone. If you check in Settings>Mail, Contact, Calendars, there is a setting for Time Zone Support at the bottom of the page under Calendars. If that is turned to off, the calendar should support the local time. Because time is set to Automatic (since you say the time is correct on the iPhone), it is reflecting the local time. That information comes from the carrier, not the iPhone itself. You can check, however the iPhone says that if you turn off the Time Zone support, it should reflect in the local time. Do a test, if possible,  and see if that will do what you are asking.
