Calendar Backup Problem

I’m having an issue with the calendars on my iPhone after a backup and restore following an upgrade to the iOS4 on a 3G handset.
Back in April I did an update for the relevant OS version at the time and all was fine except for no apparent reason all new calendar entries were being made in a new/second calendar. A couple of weeks back I had to do a reset to factory settings (due to a glitch) which was preceded by a backup and followed by a restore of data. No problems, all calendar data restored = all hunky-dory!
However, yesterday when I upgraded to the iOS4 iTunes did a back up, reset the iPhone to factory settings and restored the data. However, the new/second calendar has not restored meaning I’ve lost nearly three months worth of valuable info. Is this data still held somewhere on my PC (Windows Vista Home)? I’m not overly concerned about getting it back to the iPhone if I can at least see it somehow. The only backups iTunes will let me restore to the iPhone are ones that were made yesterday during the upgrade, a.k.a no use.
Thanks in advance
Neil

So the version of the Calendar on the iOS device is the correct one....it seems like if you turned cell data and wi-fi off, did the restore, then connected to a desktop version of Outlook via iTunes..in the desktop Outlook you'd have to create another calendar folder, then sync the iOS device calendar items to the newly created folder/calendar...you'd then have the calendar items in Outlook( albeit a different folder/calendar) and could experiment a bit with how to get them back in the correct Outlook calendar folder...another option would be to sync with the main calendar folder in Outlook, but i always get nervous moving around all my data at one time in case something "bad" or unexpected happens.  I'd probably also keep the desktop version of Outlook offline (not connected back to the exchange Server) until you had a chance to move  items from one calendar folder to the other  and see what happens.  I think the worst that would happen is you might get some duplication of calendar items....

  • How can I access a calendar backup from my old iPhone?

How can I access a calendar backup from my old iPhone?
I recently had to get a replacement iPhone 4. The tech at the Apple Store thought that I might have had a software problem and recommended that I not "restore from backup," but start this phone as a new device and just sync the apps and what-not. My calendar on my computer was different than the one on my old phone, though, and now I need the data from my old iPhone calendar. I did back up my old phone just prior to taking it to the Apple Store.
    HELP!

Well what you can do is update to ios5 then use icloud to sync your calandar up to your phone then restore your phone as new and when prompted in the new phone setup put in your icloud username and password and you will have your calandar events back.

  • Restoring calendar backup block iCal from sync

So, the issues with iCloud calendar never ends. After the beautiful discovery i did in my other post, now i'm trying to recover my calendar backup. When i restore my .icbu file, iCal restore all then it get stuck while trying to sync with iCloud. So now, it's my Mac that can't sync with the other devices.
I try recovering the entire directory in the library with time machine, but nothing. Deleting the .plist file and nothing again. It doesn't talk with iCloud anymore, if anybody have some idea, would be glad.

Ok, seems i've found a way to solve the problem. For what i know the problem is with iCal of Mavericks 10.9 that's the system i'm running now.
Issue: you were previously syncing you calendar with your iCloud ID (with mac/me/icloud domain) and for some reason now, you need to log in with another apple domain and you can't sync your calendar or restore your calendar backup done with your previous login.
    - go to iCloud panel in the preferences and disable the syncronization with iCal. It will delete all your calendar from your pc.
    - go to ~Library/Calendar and delete all the directory inside it. To be able to empty the trash you need to restart the computer.
    - after the restart open iCal again, you will start working locally. Create as many calendar you had in the past because you are going to move manually your old events over them.
    - now, go in the directory where you saved your iCal backup and right click on the file, and select "show content" of the package, or use timemachine to recover your old calendar directory always under ~library.
    - you will find a lot of directory name with letters and numers. Enter in the one that ends with ".caldav".
    - now: every other directory you find inside contains the events of each single old calendar you had before. To see what calendar are you looking at, open one directory and open the info.plist you find inside it.
    - on the bottom of the file you should be able to recognize the name of your calendar, so all your past events are in the directory "events" of the same directory.
    - select all the events and move them over the calendar you've created locally on iCal.
    - do this for each other calendar, you can forget all the others directory.
    - when you are finish, go back on the icloud panel and activate the iCal sync with iCloud and let the two calendar merge. It will take a lot of time, more than you expect. Just be patient, because for a few events on two calendar, mine took several minutes.
    - you are done, you should be able to sync everything again!
Remember that to be able to receive events and badge on the calendar of your iDevice, you need to use the original iCloud email you used at the moment you opened your account! No alias will work and even if you are like me an old mac.com members, neither me.com or icloud.com used in combination with your original username will work! They are like alias, with the difference that you can use them to log in your account!

  • Outlook 2003 + iPhone calendar sync problem solved

Here is how I solved my sync problem. Seems a lot of people have the same problem here with Outlook sync suddenly not working after it worked fine for a long time.
I've had Outlook 2003 calendar sync with my iPhone for a few month without any problem, but a few days ago the sync suddenly stopped without any error message. iTunes Diagnostic found no problem and I followed all the steps that Apple outlines to fix the problem but nothing worked (TS2776).
As Apple asked to, I created a new user account on my Windows machine and setup a few test calendar entries to sync with my iPhone. That all worked fine.
So I did what Apple doesn't tell you, and I copied my original Outlook Data file (.PST) over to my new user account and tried to sync that one. Now this didn't work. So I knew the problem lies somewhere in my PST file.
I have then tried to create a new one from scratch in my original Windows account, and copy all the data over. Again, it didn't work. So I emptied the file again, and copied all my calendar entries over to the new PST file in batches (first 10, then another 10, etc).
What I found at the end is that one single calendar entry I created a few days ago caused my sync to stop working. Once I removed this entry, everything worked fine again. Don't ask me what was wrong with it (I made a backup just in case Apple wants to see it), but now everything works again.
If you want to save some time to find which one it is, you may start deleting entries that you created just recently before it stopped working.
    Hope that helps.

Hi im having the same problem. I use outlook 2003 on windows xp and until recently my sync (using usb) was working fine. Now it would seem that calendar items are no longer syncing. can you give any further details of the calendar entry which was causing your problem? im wondering if it was added on a certain date perhaps.
I am running the inbox repair tool to see if my pst file has any problems but would appreciate any other help in the mean time.
    Cheers

  • Need help with Backup problems - anyone seen this before?

I am experiencing 2 primary problems:
    1) When attempting a recent backup with HotSync on my desktop PC (Treo 700p, HotSync Manager v. 6.01, XP): I hadn't backed up for a few weeks, and this time it crashed sometime during the backup of the Calendar (and this behavior is repeated).  So I then unchecked the backup of Calendar, but then it just hung on Contacts for about 15 minutes, so I realized it wasn't doing anything anymore (I have lots of contacts, but not not 15 minutes worth).  At this point I gave up, but I obviously need to figure out how to make HotSync work again.  Any ideas?
    2) (not sure if this is the forum to address this): When using Backup Buddy v. 2.04 a couple of days ago, every time I tried to backup, it would get maybe 1/5th into the backup and crash and restart.  I figured out in short order that Address.DB is what was causing the crash. [I tried to e-mail the file so I could examine it and save it, but just attaching it in SnapperMail made the device crash].  So I took the chance of deleting the Address.DB (as it seemed small and didn't appear to contain any backup information), and it looks like all of my information was retained.  My question here is: two times since the initial problem, something has recreated Address.DB, which again causes the 700p to crash, so I have had to delete it again.  So when is this file being (re)created, and what is the purpose of it?
An additional (minor) difficulty that I've had occur on a couple of occasions: After a recovery (where my BackupBuddy information was more current than my HotSync data), I restored, and all the calendar entries were double - 2 identical entries adjacent to one another. Has anyone seen this?
    Thanks in advance -

  • Backup problem with new 8900

I am a fairly competent BB user and have just upgraded from a Pearl to the blessed 8900. I love it so far, but I'm having problems backing it up. I can start it ok and it gets about halfway done the backup and then when it gets to "Smart Card Options," it fails. It says, "Error backing up databases." I've tried messing with the options and even removing the card and trying. It always stops at the same spot no matter what I do. Please help so I can rest in peace that my data is safe.
    Thank you.

    Go to Solution.

I have all the data from my old device on a file on my computer and I can back up my old device just fine. But that's not the problem at all.
The problem is that I can't back up my new data on my new 8900. I already did a restore initially when I got the 8900 to put all my data onto it. But now I would like to back up all my new contacts, calendar items and everything else. But I am getting the error as explained above.

  • Ipod touch 3rd generation calendar sync problems.

I have just updated my IPod Touch 3G to Software version 5.1.1.
The calendar has been synced and all entries, including those in Outlook itself, not just the IPod, have been erased from 12 months ago.
The calendar sync is to Outlook. Fortunately this is a repeat performance and I have learned to keep a backup of calendar entries as a .pst file. Therefore all that was needed  was to resync the system to the. pst file.
There is however, another observation. After a resync, all calendar entries from year 2000 (in my case) can be listed on the IPod. Past experience has shown that after a few days, involving another sync, all entries before 12 months ago will not list on the IPod.
The calendar entries are there, shown as dots against the date, but they will not list on the IPod.
Also the IPod search feature will only search entries for the past 12 months. This is to be expected, since the IPod processing features can only be limited, due to indexing etc. You can't expect the IPod to perform the same as a larger PC.
    Does anyone have this problem?
I keep a backup pdf file of the calendar on the IPod and PC, but even then the search on the IPod pdf file is limited to letters only, not numbers - again probably due to indexing problems.

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

is it because i sync my last note and calender from nokia n80?? because my note and my calender is from my old n80..
    tq

Ok, this is going to be a LONG post. I have been successful in fixing my Backup issue with PC Suite with regards Calendar, messages and phone specific backup.
Thanks to all for help (including other POSTS) especially EDWARD for pointing in the right direction as far as troubleshooting goes.
The problem for me was the SETTINGS file. Called Settings when restoring, possibly phone specific when backing up.
    This is what I did.........
    (1) Sync'd Calendar and Contacts with ZYB.com as not able to sync with PC Suite (no outlook or lotus account).
Tried full back up with PC Suite. Got error for Calendar and Phone specific. KEPT FILE.
    (2) Wiped phone, *#7370#. Restored Settings ONLY using PC Suite from file in step one. No error. Then tried a Full Backup with PC Suite. Got error for Calendar and Phone specific (note nothing in calendar).
    (3) Wiped phone again. Maually typed in access point, and sync settings and sync'd Calendar ONLY using ZYB.com. Did Full backup with PC Suite. No error.
    (4) Sync'd contacts ONLY with ZYB.com. Fully Backed up with PC Suite. No Error.
    (5) Restored Bookmarks ONLY with PC Suite from file in step one. Did Full Back up. Got error "Nokia Launch Application has stopped working, Windows will close". Tried several more times and got same error. Uninstalled and reinstalled PC Suite with no joy. This was on Laptop. So went to my PC.
    (6) Was able to Back up fully on my PC. No error.
    (7) Restored User Files from phone memory ONLY using PC Suite from file in step one. Backed up fully. No error.
    (8) Restored Messages using PC Suite from file in step one. Backed up fully. No errors.
    (9) Restored Calendar and Notes using PC Suite from file in step one. Backed up fully. No error. (NOTE for some strange reason while backing up you can select calendar and notes separately, but when restoring you can only select them as one item...weird)
(10)Decided to try restoring settings again using PC Suite from file in step one. Got error for Calendar and Phone Specific.
    (11) Wiped phone again(*#7370#). Restored using backup file created in step 9.
    (12) I changed back as many of the settings that I could remember that I had originally before wiping phone in step (1).
    (13) I Backed up Fully with PC Suite. No Error. Wiped phone again and restored all with file created in this step. Phone back to Normal.
    (14) Backed up using memory card. Wiped phone and restored all.
    This time calendar events missing.
    (15) Wiped phone again, restored using file in step (13).
    (16) All back to normal including calendar events.
Thats where I am leaving it (at least for now).
So, now I have BACK UP using PC SUITE fully functional.
    Long may it last !!!!
I'll have to start a post on why backup to memory card is not working now....If its not one thing its another.
Anyway hope this helps someone out there.
Again, Thanks to all for help, especially Edward.
    Any questions, let me know.

  • Calendar backup stuck in a loop

I am trying to backup my Calendar from my MacBook Pro to my iPad through iCloud. It has ran all afternoon and again this morning and I cannot stop it. I think it is stuck in a loop. I have tried force quit and turning the computer off but when I turn it back on it is still trying to do it. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a problem with your library. Go to applications in finder and double click iMovie app while holding down the option key. You should get a dialog box which allows you to choose another library to open. If you don't have another library you can create one here and iMovie should open for you.

    Hi Natalia,
Thanks for the reply...Please find the answer as below,
-> What is the version of Data Protector?
    Data Protector 5.5
-> What is the version of the database?
    SAP MaxDB 7.6
-> According your information you could use the DBMGUI to create the medium of u201CBACKu201D type and create the databackup using this medium. Correct?
    Yes
The problems are with Data Protector GUI, not with MAXDB or DBMGUI. Correct?
    Yes
Please let me know where to make any changes or any enviornment settings to be done in Data Protector GUI so that it will use the medium "BACK" as backup tool while i start the backup through Data Protector GUI.
    Thanks,

After you hit OK on the window that says "Do you want to backup now?", an error would pop up saying: "Enter a new directory name or ask the system administrator of the Ciscoworks Common Services server to make the directory accessible to user casuser", thus I cannot proceed with the backup process. When I do backup, my login privilege is admin. Even tried to do backup on the same partition as my CSCOpx directory but to no avail.
Appreciate your help on this guys. Our LMS 3.0 runs on Solaris platform. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Joe,
Thanks for your prompt response. By the way, what is a casuser? Is he also one of the user that can be found on the Local User Setup on Common Services? The scenario here is that, I am not the one who installed the Ciscoworks LMS 3.0 on the client side, so I am not aware on how they did the installation procedure for the application. I remember assigning casuser password during installation on our other clients that has LMS 3.0.
Will the write access on the backup directory for the casuser be done by the Solaris root administrator?
    Thanks for your help.
