Calendar Categories

Hello, my  first time here. I have had Nokia phones for some time but never had an issue. I just got a new N97 Mini and I am syncing it with my Outlook 2007 calendar. It works just fine but I need to categorize the calendar, preferably with colors. Does anyone know of an app that I can use or another way to do this?
 Thanx in advance.......

SBSH Calendar
I use and recommend SBSH Calendar.  I have it on good authority that SBSH Calendar (formerly "Papyrus") by SBSH.net will have category synchronization after two updates, possibly before the end of the year.
A couple of years ago, I compared Handy Calendar, AquaCalendar, and Papyrus (now SBSH Calendar) and picked Papyrus, which has categories, but doesn't sync them.  I've been happy with my choice.  Now I'm running MS Outlook 2010 and would really like to have Category Synchronization:  I talked with the developers who told me it's planned for a future release (no date).  I don't know if they'll charge extra for Calendar Synchronization.
You can buy SBSH Calendar on SBSH.net for 19.95 USD
SBSH Calendar on Handango for 19.95 USD
SBSH Calendar on SymbianGear for 25.07 USD
Note that SymbianGear (Germany) could end up being less expensive depending on your home currency (EUR, USD, GBP).
Handango Promo Code for 25% off a purchase of $30 or more:  GET25
General Info
In order to sync categories, I believe you'd have to have special support for this either:
On the Phone and/or on the desktop computer.
On a Desktop Computer, support would have to be provided by:
  PC Suite Sync
  Ovi Suite Sync
  3rd Party Sync or driver.
AquaCalendar
If you want category synchronization now, AquaCalendar v5.4 for S60 by Pocket Torch has an add-in that allows category synchronization with MS Outlook and Google Calendar called AquaSync v1.0.  I believe that AquaSync must be installed on the phone, which is undesirable to me.  Pocket Torch was bought out by another company (SBSH?) and so is no longer around.  I believe that the last development work on AquaCalendar and AquaSync was in 2008.  However, you can still find AquaCalendar for sale on various websites.
You can buy AquaCalendar on Handango for 34.95 USD
You can buy AquaSync on Handango for 9.95 USD
I believe that SBSH hired Pocket Torch's developer as well as acquired their applications, so perhaps that's the source of SBSH's category synchronization expertise.
AquaSync Ad Excerpt

Attachments
Attached are two Internet Explorer .mht files of the original Pocket Torch web pages for AquaCalendar and AquaSync.
Since .mht files aren't permitted to be attached, I renamed them with .pdf extensions.  You'll have to name them back in order to view them in Internet Explorer or Microsoft Word (mht is a proprietary Microsoft format for storing a webpage in a single file.  I now use PDF format for such things).
I hope this information proves useful,

  • Is it (or can it become) possible to assign colors to calendar categories or even specific events?

For the 'Category' feature this could be done with a pick-list for each category; Maybe a color selection over-ride for specific events under the 'Options' menu?
This would really help calendar readability -
    Thanks!

For categories, you can set the colour of a tiny bar in the event's entry in the calendar.
    [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menu_differences_in_Windows,_Linux,_and_Mac Tools|Options]|Calendar|Categories
You can set the colours associated with calendars so a clumsy way to do it would be have separate calendars for the types of events you want to track. This would allow the entire entry to be coloured rather then the tiny blob associated with a category.

  • Calendar events duplicating across iCloud Calendar categories

I have Calendar events duplicating across iCloud Calendar categories. IOW, for example, I have Halloween displaying correctly because I have the "US Holidays" category checked. Fine. I also have a category, to continue the example, called “Motorcycles" checked—obviously because I want pertinent events display under that category. The problem is that I did not put Halloween under the Motorcycles category and it repeats annually. Therefore I see Halloween displayed twice every year (with US Holidays and Motorcycles checked). Further info, if I delete Motorcycles/Halloween for 2014, it remains in place for 2015 and later years. So I don’t know how this happened and I don’t know how to resolve it. Thanks for the help.

Thank you very much for the answer. It turns out that I was under the "call support" category—and I did. While it remains a mystery why some "Holidays" and also "US Holidays" migrated over to other categories but we went onto my iCloud Calendar site to see specifically and compare to my machine Calendar. We decided to Delete a couple minor offending categories that had accepted the repeats and just dealt with it that way. So....still a mystery as to why but problem solved. Thanks again.

  • Publishing multiple calendar categories into one calendar

Is it possible to publish multiple calendar categories into one calendar on my .Mac?

    David,
    welcome to Apple Discussions.
I'm not sure if I understand correctly what you mean with "categories". Maybe you want to achieve what I described in "Publishing more than one calender" #1, 04:11pm Oct 19, 2005 CDT

  • Calendar categories...c-mon Apple.

    Dear Apple,
As advanced a piece of technology as the ipad is, why can't I add calendar categories right from the ipad without having to sync to a desktop? I don't want to make my ipad co-dependent on my desktop for things like that. Is that not a simple fix? A little plus sign, add category...and done.

These are user-to-user discussions, not direct communication with Apple. You might want to try posting to http://www.apple.com/feedback to get your request into Apple's hands.

  • Why aren't Calendar categories colored in month view

On the iPhone 5S under iOS 7.0.4 in the Calendar app, in the month view, existting daily events are indicated by gray dots.  Why aren't these dots colored according to the event category?  My recollection is that used to be the case prior to iOS 7.0.  In day or week view, the time or full day are showing the respective category color.  And on the iPad Air, under iOS 7.0.4, the calendar month view DOES show the category color in the dot! Did Apple forget about this functionality?  I can see there is an event, but not the categories I used (medical, travel, etc).

Comparing this functionality between a larger format such as the iPad and the smaller format on the iPhone is a little like apples and oranges. The iPad in Month view has enough space on each day to show discrete entries - and can consequently show them in their respective calendar colors. On the Phone, it only has space to indicate that one or more events exist (represented by a single dot). If you have more than one event, in different categories, which category color should it display?

  • MS Outlook 2007 calendar categories

    Hi folks,
I cannot imagine that my BB 8800 with the BB desktop 5.0.1. and the device frim ware 4.5.0.174 isn't able to sync the MS outlook 2007 categories with the BB canlendar.
Where is the trick? I'm sure that there is a RIM solution. Many thanks!
    Regards, Sebastian

I'm hugely relieved to have come up with a solution....     The BB calendar doesn't support categories, and RIM seems indifferent to the problem, so just forget about that....    but at least now I can sync Outlook (2007/Win 7) with multiple Google calendars, using an absolutely wonderful product, which I just discovered, calleg gSyncit.   Then I use Google Sync to sync Google calendars with my BB.    Unless you want to go through the incredible mess of installing multiple "dummy" gmail accounts to create multiple calendars on the BB, all the events will be in the same calendar, and will have the same color, but at least all the events will be there, and they sync correctly with Google, and subsequently, back to Outlook.
I created a Google calendar called "New Events from BB".  New events created on the BB calendar are synched back to this calendar.  I've given it a bold color so that any new events stand out prominently.   Then, either logged in to Google, or in Outlook I can transfer any new event created on the BB to whichever calendar or category it actually belongs to.  (I've discovered that you can set category on BB address book, but not in the calendar.   This really makes me mad, as the BB obviously reads this database field in the calendar as well, but then doesn't allow the user to edit it.)
It's still a bit kludgy....  but it works....  I've been battling this issue for months, so right now, I feel nothing but relief.

  • Importing Entourage calendar categories to iCal

I have my Entourage calendar events color-coded using categories (ie yellow-bdays/anniv, blue-travel, green-meetings, etc.) and need to switch over to iCal so I can use ePocrates on my Treo. Is there any way to import Entourage to keep the categories, without having to go thru and individually reassign events in iCal to specific calendars? When I have tried importing Entourage to iCal, everything goes to a Entourage calendar and I lose all my categories.
Thanks in advance for any advice/guidance that you may be able to share

Is this a one-time switch? If so, the easiest thing might be to set up a "view" in Entourage for each of your categories. (If you haven't done this before it's pretty easy to do, create a new view, select the filtering options you want, in this case "Category" "Is" <category name here>). Save the view and then select it under "Calendar Views" in the Calendar window.
When you select the calendar view you will see all your events for that category. You can select all of them and then drag them to either you desktop, or a folder. This will create an individual .ics for each of them. You can then drag all the .ics files at once into an open iCal window. Whatever calendar is active in iCal is the calendar the events will be imported to.
You'll need to repeat this for each category -> calendar combination.
(I just tried this and it worked for me, you can even undo the import if you so desire.)
If you need to sync the 2 programs then this obviously won't do it for you. I don't know of any programs out there that would do this, so if you really need it you could create an applescript to take care of all of this. (That would be time-consuming, but once you get one category -> calendar process scripted it should be easy after that!)
    Post back with any questions.

  • Summary report of Outlook Calendar categories

I would like to be able to view or run a query on the specific categories for meetings in Outlook.  For example, if I assign a project to a specific category, I would like to be able to go back and get a total for that category after a certain period
of time: monthly, quarterly, semi annual, etc.  I would appreciate any input to see if this is possible.

I would suggesting creating named views in your Calendar, one for each project.  Then create a filter for each view to only show appointments containing that project's category.  When you switch to the name view you can see at a glance just the
appointments from those categories (although you won't see item counts).  An alternative would be to create a single view that filters for multiple project categories, but with a grouping on the Categories field.  You'll be able to see item counts
    within each Category grouping.

  • Exchange Outlook Calendar categories Color

Hi, I do not know if somebody already asked this question, but I still can figure it out.
On my outlook 2007 calendar which is sync via exchange to my iPhone I have most of the events in Categories, each with different colors. But when I go to my iPhone any of them have the color/category that is assigned to them.
    Anybody knows why?
    Thanks.

    I had the same issue& here's the work-around:
Now , i don't use exchange, so I am not sure if this is possible for you, but what I was go to the left hand side of Outlook, where you see "My Calendars".
    1. create new a new calendar for similar things (ex: Birthdays & Anniversaries). Follow this step so that you have a few different calendars, all corresponding to your colored categories.
    2. Go up to "View" & change the view to "category". Now drag & drop the categories that the color coded categories correspond to the NEW calendars.
    3. the new calendars may not correspond color wise, but at least they will be differentiated enough for you to decipher on your iPhone calendar.

  • Calendar Categories on the IPad

I have an Ipad and I love it, however I would like to know when in the calendar, can I choose or create categories for my appointments? Or at least select a different colour depending on what the category is?
    Thanks

  • Public Foler Calendar Categories not Visible to Other User

My company uses calendars within the public folders for staff to be able to check their schedule.
When I add an event to one of those calendars, and change the category colour, I can see it, but none of the other users accessing the calendars can see them. It shows any text changes I've made, but no category. If those users open up the event, the category
name is even showing as selected, but the colour doesn't actually show up.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
There is no feature in Exchange server to manage calendar view in Outlook. Based on my research, it seems a known issue that Outlook does not recognize or coexist with color category in the public calendar folders since Outlook 2007.
If you want to see the same colored categories on all of your computers, you must create the same categories and colors on every computer. The following article is about share color categories for Outlook 2010:

  • Calendar 'Categories' from Outlook

Is it possible to utilize the 'Categorize' function from Outlook 2007 on the iPhone? Calendar items appear on the iPhone, but do not have the category tag/color.

No, that feature is not supported. The only way to 'color-code' calendar entries on the phone is to create multiple separate calendars (in Outlook or iCal), and enter the events in different calendars.
You can submit feedback to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html.

  • Outlook 2007 Calendar color coding (categories) of appointments and meeting

I synce my new iPhone 4 with Microsoft Outlook 2007 from work. I have all my appointment meetings color coded (categorized) in Outlook. The color coding is not showing up on my iPhone calendar. Why?

    Hi,
I did a test on my side: The account in Outlook was an Outlook.com account, I created an appointment in its calendar, gave it a category. Then I logged on the calendar on
https://bay04.calendar.live.com/calendar/calendar.aspx, the appointment was there and I could see the category, but there's no color on it.
Based on what I see, it's probably by design that Outlook.com Calendars don't display category colors, although it already has a category. To confirm this, you can post the question in Outlook.com forum:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com
Since iPad is not a Microsoft product, I'm not sure and can't guarantee if it supports the calendar categories that Outlook supports.

  • Duplicate categories in calendar

Recently when I change categories for an event in the calendar, there are duplicate entries for some of them (but not all.)
I've reinstalled everything ...(including desktop overwrites handheld) and initially things were Ok but within a couple of syncs these duplicate entries showed up.
I'm using Agendus as my calendar but these duplicate entries also show up when I use the Palm calendar.
I'm using Mac OS X. The only possible thing I can think might have changed is that I recently installed a desktop application which syncs with iCal through Sync Services but it only syncs with iCal and there aren't any duplicate Calendars in iCal.
Can anyone suggest what might be happening?
    Post relates to: Tungsten T5

I haven't an answer to your question, but I don't know where to post my question. I'm new to forums and am trying to post the following question, "How can I change the default calendar categories (Business and Personal) to 6 additional categories that will default to the new 8 categories instead of reverting back to the 2 only categories?".
