Calendar date in the dock icon

the date on my calendar in the dock icon is never correct until i click on it and bring up the app. is there a way to have it show the date correctly automatically all the time just as the clock shows the correct time all the time?

Hi ironDuke,
I believe there are a couple of not so elegant workarounds that I am sure are not what you are looking for. One is a script that will launch at midnight each night and change it (but of course the computer needs to be running for it to work) and the other is the iConiCal widget. I'm sure there are other workarounds but as far as I know you cannot do it within the OS and just have it update it automatically.
hope that helps some,

  • Date displayed on dock icon

    Hi All,
This is just a little thing which isn't really that important but thought it would be useful to ask.
Is there a way to display the current date on the dock icon for ICal BEFORE opening the application?
My dock icon always shows the last date that I opened the app and then is updated to the current date after i open and close the app.
    Is this possible?
    Cheers.

    TheFollans,
The behavior which you report is default. There is no way to change it.
    I have placed iCal in my Login Items (System Preferences...>Accounts>My Account>Login Items>Hide [✓ ]).
iCal is always available for use and the date in the Dock is always correct. I can switch to iCal at any time and when I am done consulting iCal I use the (⌘+H) command to hide iCal without quitting.
You can submit OS X Feedback with your personal recommendation for your desired method of implementation.
    ;~)

  • Changning the dock icon font

Does anyone know where the update script is that changes the date in the dock icon? I switched the blank iCal icon so my icon replaces the normal one, but it still has the old date style and I would like to change it.

  • ICal still shows previous day in ical proper, but shows current date in the dock

iCal is open in the MONTH, on my desktop permanently, but it continually shows yesterdays date.  It isn't till I actually click on the following day in iCal proper that the date changes to the current date. The iCal icon on the dock works fine with no issues.  When I first purchased the iMac iCal worked aok.  Software is continually updated.

I have the same issue. I am also running iCal 5.0.2 under Lion 10.7.3. It worked fine for me on Lion 10.7.2, and it still works ok for me on my iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1. It does look like a bug to me. I have the issue connecting to a Google Calendar as well as to another (non-Apple) CalDAV server.
Let me know if you call Apple Support to report this issue.

  • Why is the date on the iCal icon the 17th July!?

I was amusing a friend recently showing him how the date on the iCal icon changes to the current date when you open it up and he asked an interesting question ... why does the icon show the date as the 17th July when the application is not open?
I had never really thought about it before so decided to search the internet for a reasonable answer ... the following are a list if interesting events which occured on the 17th July (none of which however seem likely to be the reason for the icons date):
1995 - The Nasdaq stock index closes above the 1000 mark for the first time.
1989 - First flight of the B2 Stealth Bomber.
1987 - The Dow Jones Industrial Average closes above the 2500 mark for the first time.
    1976 - Viking 1 lands on Mars.
1975 - Russian and American astronauts meet in space as the Apollo and Soyuz spacecraft's dock successfully.
1964 - A new land speed record is set by the Bluebird (driven by Sir Donald Campbell) reaching a speed of 429mph.
1955 - Opening of Disneyland in California.
1936 - Start of Spanish Civil War.
1917 - The British Royal Family change their name to Windsor in place of their German family name Saxe-Coburg-Gotha.
1790 - The first sewing machine is patented by Thomas Saint.
1453 - End of the One Hundred Years War.
I then came across this page on the Apple site ... http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2002/jul/17ical.html ... which gives the obvious answer that the reason for the icons date is simply that the program was first introduced at MacWorld on the 17th July 2002! Simple!

  • ICal showing current date on the dock

I have Leopard and the iCal icon on my dock shows the current date, whether or not the application is open, whether or not I shut down the computer.
Another person in the office, with Panther, has iCal on her dock but the date does not update each day unless she opens the application.
Is there a way to set the dock icon to update in Panther.
    thanks,

Is there a way to set the dock icon to update in Panther.
Not without keeping iCal open all the time.

  • Does Mail display # of new messages in the dock icon even when app is off?

I'm not sure if it does or not. I like how the new iCal icon in the dock displays the date even when the app isn't open.
I'd love if Mail would display the # of new messages in the dock icon without having to leave the application open all the time.
Otherwise, I just have to stick with Gmail Notifier.
    Thanks for any insight!
    - Jeff

you would have to leave the application opened.
    hope this helps

  • Some calendars in iCal appear corrupted but OK on iPhone. If I sync will the calendar data on the phone restore info on the desktop iCal? any other ideas for how to sort this please?

Some calendars in iCal appear corrupted (ie have red exclamation mark by them) but are still OK on iPhone. If I sync, will the calendar data on the phone restore info on the desktop iCal or will I lose that as well? Or could I back up the calendars on my iPhone somewhere and then import them into iCal? any other ideas for how to sort this please? it's driving me mad. thanks.

I don't think there will be a solution to this. Exchange 2003 just isn't supported.

  • Can't stop the dock icon bouncing when there is an "alert" from Thunderbird

I posted this question on the MozillaZine forum, but no-one there answered so I thought I'd try here.
I'm using Thunderbird 2.0.0.14 for my email. Is there a way to stop the dock icon bouncing when there is an "alert"? These happen relatively frequently in connection with my Yahoo account, and every time the icon bounces until I go to Thunderbird and click "ok" on the alert box. This is slowly driving me nuts. I have disabled the "animate dock icon" setting for new mail, and for my whole system when programs start or open, but it hasn't had any effect on the behaviour of the icon with regards to alerts.
    Thanks.
    C

Sorry, I am not trying to be difficult. I'm just lost.
Hey, no problem, really... we're here trying to help & just need to find out what is needed to help!
You really should right click on the whole Thubderbird folder and Archive it first, so we can go back if need be.
Then, it appears that if you just recreate the account, with the name, email, server, and smtp, then everything comes back for that account... at least for global accounts.
If you wish to hold off on this then just move the original .js back and start T-Bird again, then I can search for a way to edit the existing .js file, because for some reason, when you change your prefs back, it's not changing that file like it should.

  • OSX: FF running, but no windows open - clicking on the dock icon should open a new window.

Running OSX 10.5.8, FF3.6.10. If I close all FF windows, but leave FF running, I should be able to open a new FF window by clicking the dock icon. This doesn't work - it just brings FF to the front, but no windows open. Any ideas how I can fix this?

Is an external display connected and turned off? If not, open Mission Control. Do you see the window(s) in any other spaces?

  • What happened to the dock icon in safari 6.04

The most recent Mountain Lion update included Safari 6.04. All of a sudden the dock icon looks as bad as google's chrome. When using the magnify option it pixelates all ugly. Did we finally sell out? Is this the way Tim is going to run things? Someone needs to get the axe for this!

Boot in safe mode. This will cause certain caches maintained by the system to be rebuilt.
Safe mode is much slower to boot than normal.
When the login screen appears, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and test. There's no need to log in while in safe mode.
Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.

  • New IMac 20" Color intensity of the Dock Icons

I notice that the color intensity of the Dock Icons does not seem to be as intense as that of my wife's 24" IMac. It looks a bit washed out. Any suggestions or is this just the way a 20" is?

You might want to google this issue (20" imac screen gradient). It received a lot of attention when the current imac range was first released.
You can use the mac calibrator in either expert or non-expert mode. If you use the non-expert mode, try setting gamma to 2.2. Works for many.

  • Is there anyway to make the dock icon bounce on Mac OS X via a javascript event inside a web page?

I'm creating a task management web app, that will be kept open in a tab, and used only when needed to update a your status, an I would like to bounce the icon when new task is assign to the user or other event regarding him occurs.
It would be also nice if I could some how let my application know if Firefox is currently in foreground so I could turn off the bounce of the icon.
And for it to be complete, it would be nice for my app to somehow let the user know that there was an activity it the tab ( to change somehow to color of the tab or use some sort of badge )
Of course, the dock bouncing or the change of the tab state should not take the focus of the users current application or move the focus from one tab to the tab of my web app.
    P.S.
I know that I could do an alert() but this option is way to intrusive ( it probably does bounce the icon, but when in browser it takes the focus to my app tab and I hate that )
    Thanks in advance

Well ok, and what about some other methods?
I need to get the user's attention.
For Windows 7 I can use toFront() method.
For Mac I need this library, right?!
I think a feature request for something like javafx.application.Application#requestUserAttention() would be fine, no?
And I think stage.getIcons().add("icon") should also set the dock icon for Mac.
