Calendar - Event Locations as addresses don't link?

I thought addresses in all sorts of places were supposed to link to google maps seamlessly.
Why don't the locations of my events exhibit the same functionality? Would be nice to have.

I'm just writing to agree, hoping someone at Apple will read this and add this to the list of updates for iPhone's 2.1.0+ software. It would be nice to have the Maps application search automatically so I don't have to stop and try to type out the entire address or wait for a search to complete, especially when I'm in route already.

  • Better Calendar Event Location Suggestions?

    OSX 10.9.1 - Calendar
When adding a new event in Calendar, it helpfully offers suggestions as I'm typing in the event location. In my case, I type in "Starbucks" (for real), it churns about for a second, and then offers 7 Starbucks locations. Top suggestion is in Nevada (I'm in NY), second suggestion is in Australia, then several options of locations that are in my metro area at a distance.
However, there are 2 Starbucks locations that are very near my home. I can't get either of these two to appear in the suggestions no matter what I try. Clearly, it knows my metro area, and in the Maps app, it pinpoints me with no problem. But I can't take advantage of this feature.
Is there any way to help the suggestions? It doesn't know what I mean when I type "Starbucks <myarea> NY", or "Starbucks <myzip>".
    Thanks!

I've had the same problem.  It's very frustrating when I type in the name of an Italian restaurant that is 30 min away and the address suggestions I get addresses across the state, across the country, and ITALY!  I shouldn't have to add a contact record for every place that I need directions for.  That defeats the purpose of having the event location.  I could just pull up the contact and open the address in Google Maps.  The Calendar event location field needs some work.  Why can't it either offer more options or at least check the area around your current location first?

  • Has BlackBerry forgot Switzerland in Calendar Events - Location?

    Hi all,
I just recently returned to a BlackBerry Q10 after about 3 years using android devices. I really missed the physical keyboard and the shortcuts that came with it.
After a few days of use I have discovered a problem with Calendar Events. When I enter an address here in Zurich, it should become a link that will launch BB Maps. It does not. I have tried various combinations of street, city, postal code etc. Even when I press the Map icon to search for an address and paste it into the event location, it does not become a link.
I also tried my old address in Paris and that didn't work either. It seems that the OS does not deal with addresses outside North America.
It would be OK if I could change the default map application to BeMaps Pro but I can't figure out how to do that either.
I was wondering if anyone has an idea or has had similar issues.
    Cheers
    Bruce

    Hi,
Yes it works if you put in a North American address.
    Example:
    1. Create a new calendar event.
    2. For "Location", type "2100 Yonge Street Toronto".
    3. Save new event.
    4. Open the event. The location will now be in blue font.
    5. Tap the location text and BB Maps will open and display the location on a map.
It does not seem to work with Swiss or French addresses even if I search using the Map app first and paste the location into the event. I tried a UK address " 58 Baker Street London" and that worked.
Let me know if it works the same for you.
    Cheers

  • Calendar event location not shown on iPod

I use iCal to sync with my iPod so that I have all of the information about my scheduled events, i.e. the room number and building of where I need to be at a certain time. In the past this has worked just fine, but for some reason now when I look at my calendar events on my iPod, I can only see the Summary, Date, Time, and Notes. Where did the location go? How can I get it back? Thanks!

The location isn't displayed on the iPod. If you want it you need to move the location information into the description. This has been reported to Apple as a bug, but they haven't done anything about it. The location is actually syncd properly with the iPod, it just isn't displayed.
I wrote an Applescript/Perl script that can be used to update your calendar files so the location is in the description. After you sync normally you open your iPod on the desktop and drag the Calendars folder onto the Applescript and it processes all of your calendar files. It is free.
It is at my website <http://its.usc.edu/~bbellina/downloads>.

  • Calendar events created in iPhone don't sycn to iCal

I migrated from a Blackberry to iPhone about a month ago, so am somewhat green to the nuances of the platform.
I notice that when I create a calendar event in the iPhone (3g, 2.2.1), it does not get sync'ed to my iCal calendar. Changes in iCal sync to the iPhone just fine.
I've done the reset suggestions listed in the Apple support site that relate to resetting the iSync history as well as running the unix command with no change.
    Any suggestions here?
    thanks,
    Larry

I am also having the problem. Events created on the iPhone do not sync to either my MobileMe calendar (no matter what platform (Mac/PC) or browser(IE/Safafi) I open it from)or the iCals on either my desktop or laptops Macs. All have MobileMe preferences set to sync calendars, and iPhone is set to Sync with my Macs in iTunes. All events added anywhere BUT the iPhone itself, sync across all my Macs and MobileMe, only the event actually added from the iPhone itself fail to sync.
Anybody got anything new on this?

  • Publish Calendar Group and events location lost

After publish the Calendar Group, which may contain more than one individual calendar and coded in different colors correspondingly, the published online view of the calendar group shows only one color. Is there a design fault in this? Shouldn't the published Calendar group retain the original individual calendar colors?
Also, the published calendar, individual events lost their locations. When I publish the calendar I checked the box for title and notes. There is nowhere for checking the location. Is this the reason for not publishing the location? Please correct the design. Thanks.

I'm also wondering why iCal event locations and URLs don't appear in a published (via .Mac) calendar. When I click on an event, I get Subject, Date, and Summary info (which is equivalent to the Notes field). It does not show the Location or URL field, however.
Any ideas on how to get this information on a published calendar?

  • HT1692 how do i stop my calendar events being deleted automatically after a month or so?

I cannot keep calendar events - how do i change this , it should be so simple.

If you normally sync to your computer via iTunes there is a setting in iTunes for how many days back you keep calendar events.
If you don't normally sync to your computer I'm not sure  if there is a way to keep calendar events around longer.

  • HT4436 Why don't all my contacts and calendar events on my iMac (version 10.7.4) stream onto iCloud? For instance, there are 470 entries in my address book but only 270 on iCloud. And not all my appointments in iCal are transferred.

I have the same problem transfering Address book on iMac to contacts on iPhone (old version 3G - on iCloud). this is a hard wired connection

Might you have 200 entries in On My Mac groups and some of your appointments in On My Mac calendars?

  • Can a calendar's event location be used to link to a map?

  • How do I stop Calendar overriding my Event location

    Hi
When creating an event in Calendar, the software is quite 'helpful' in offering suggestions for the event location as I type.
However, if I don't like any of it's suggestions, or wish to override the suggested location, the software seems to stamp it's feet and insist on formatting the location data the way IT prefers.
How do I stop it doing that?
For instance, I am attending an event at the "Institute of Directors, 116 Pall Mall, London, SW1Y 5EA"
Calendar finds a very close match for this and replaces my location with
    "116 Pall Mall
    London
    England
    SW1Y 5EA
    United Kingdom"
Apart from the excessive screen real estate taken up by those superfluous new lines, it doesn't include the name of the location - "Institute of Directors" - and it includes 2 countries - England and United Kingdom - that I don't need to know because I live here.
Can I not keep my own preferred format in the location field?

I just fixed this issue by turning off the location support on iCal on my iPhone. If all your devices are synced up that may be causing the issue.
After turning off location support I was able to enter the address I wanted. It gave me a choice to stick with my address or choose from the list of suggestions. After refreshing iCal on my computer it displayed the correct address.
Hopefully your fix will be that easy!

  • Using Address Book Contacts in Event Location

    Hey everyone,
A quick question. I'm not sure if this function is available, and if not would be extremely handy!
Is there a way to input location information from a contact in your Address Book into the "Location" tab in a new event?
Rather than having to type it out and the address not be linked to anything, it would be extremely handy to have a function that you can type in a contacts name, and it links the address from the Contact's info into the Location field of the new Event, the same way that it does this for "Invitees".
    Does this make sense?
    Is this at all possible????

Same thing hapening to me; ever since I upgraded my Mobile Me Cal. I think it has seperated out my calendars so that now only those associated with the .ne account are syncing.
Total pain in the ..., haven't quite figured out how to rectify this. Obviously the mobile me team didn't think this one through.

  • How do i set up a link on my website to download calendar events

I am trying to put a link on our website that downloads calendar events. We have a training course that runs 13 weeks and each week the days are not always the same. I would like to have the ability for them to download the appointments into their calendar with one click.

Sorry you don't not a feature on the iphone.  ONly signature for emails.

  • Every single website, or link within a website page is being added to my location bar/address bar drop down menu. How can I stop this? This just started happening.

Every single website url address, or url address within a website page is being added to my location bar/address bar drop down menu.
I don't want everything added or saved in the location bar. Only urls that I used a lot used to be saved there but now every single url (and url within a url)I visit is being added to it.
How can I stop this? This just started happening.
I'm sure it's a simple browser setting but I've checked and nothing gives an option to control this.
    Firefox 3.0.17
    Windows XP
    == User Agent ==
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.17) Gecko/2009122116 Firefox/3.0.17

A possibility is to open the links via the right-click context menu or a middle-click in a new tab to make sure that Firefox sees them as regular links.

  • Can I open maps using an address in a calendar event

I created an event in my calendar and added the address, we then wanted to check where the location was and how long it would take to get there. I assumed that I could just tap the address and maps would open to show the location. Instead I had to copy the address from the event, open maps and then paste it!!!
This can't be right, surely I am doing something wrong here. There must be a simpler way of doing this why can't I just tap the address to go to the location.
So then I think maybe I can open maps and I can find a location based on an event in my calendar, but no there seems to be no way of doing it.
Why is there no integration between calendar events (appointments In my diary which may require me to go somewhere) and maps.
Please someone prove me wrong. Is this not an obvious requirement !!!!!

you can use Runtime.exec() to execute something, if it's a signed applet. But I'm not sure it'll stay open after the applet were closed...

  • Locations in calendar events

Why is it when I enter a calendar event in my exchange calendar locations aren't recognized but when I use any other non-exchange calendar when I enter an event and enter an address under location it shows the locations on a map?

Tapping and holding the fingertip on the address will still give you an option to open the location in a map
