Calendar is acting up

In my October page my calendar shows events (transparent) from November on top of my October events. Also to get to October from my November page I have to scroll twice to September and then go up to October. Very annoying!!

Quit iCal.
Go to /Users/yourname/Library/Preferences and move this file to your desktop:
com.apple.iCal.plist
Relaunch iCal.
Any better?

  • Tips on how to organize multiple iCloud calendars in iCal 5.0

    Found some workarounds but looking for tips from others since I have not been using Lion and the new iCal very long.
    Situation:
    I use iCal for work and have my own calendars and manage my boss's multiple calendars. An upgrade to Lion has thrown a monkey wrench as we now have to use iCloud to have read/write access to the calendars. The new look of iCal is very cluttered with all of these entries and color coding is not enough to be easy on the eyes to differentiate what is what. The new simplified look hides the master list of calendars which acted as a legend. Now in order to figure out what calendar an entry belongs to, I have to click to reveal the list of calendars and make a guess (due to the # of calendars the colors are used more than once) or click on the item and then edit for the details. The list of calendars is not very helpful as everything is under iCloud, both mine and the boss's, with no indication as to which belongs to whom. The shared icon being visible is a clue but not that much help. A subgroup automatically created by AppleID or the ability to create an iCloud group would be very useful.
    Work arounds:
    Leaving the inspector open helps eliminate 1 click so now I don't have to click on edit to reveal which calendar and entry belongs to.
    To make the calendar list more manageable, I manually reordered the calendars and renamed each one of my boss's calendars with their name on it.
    Tips for those that have to deal with supporting someone who deletes entries without telling you:
    I maintain a travel calendar for the boss and put the details of their trip (such as hotel information) into the entry but as their travel decisions are erratic, they often delete these entries when they decide not to travel for work then later notify me to cancel the hotel but the information is lost since they deleted the entry. Frustrating. I could keep a copy elsewhere, such as email, text file, etc, but I prefer the organization of a calendar. I created a duplicate calendar on my end that they do not have access to where I copy and paste each entry of their calendar into mine. This way, when they delete an entry in their calendar, I still have the trip info. I'm curious for those that deal with this sort of thing, is this the best practice? For example, is there a way to auto duplicate or create multiple entries without copy and paste? (For now, iCal does not appear to let you put the same event on multiple calendars.)
    Does anyone have any other tips for organizing multiple calendars, especially in this sort of situation where you are dealing with the calendars of others? I would really like the month view or week view to be more understandable. The color coding just isn't enough. Is there a way to put the title of the calendar to appear in the entry for week/month view?

    I just transfered all of my data over to iCloud today.  I run a summer college program and I had all of my calendars neatly ordered on my computer under Calendar Groups - and color coded.  It was a bit frustrating to see that I would not be able to organize them in this way on iCloud.  I like your ideas - they were helpful.  I hope they update and improve on this for us!

  • Sync with Act 2006 (version 8.0) and IBM Lotus Not...

    First, let me thank you in advance for your help.
    I'm looking into purchasing an E71.  This will be my first smartphone.  I need it to do the following:
    1) Sync my E71 with Lotus Notes (version 7.0) to receive my work e-mail.  Our tech department only supports BlackBerry's...should I be able to figure this out?  Will everything sync wirelessly?
    2) Sync my E71 to receive my contacts from Act 2006 (version 8.0).  Does Nokia's PC Suite allow sycnronization from Act to the E71?  Will it continuously update wirelessly?
    3) Sync my E71 to receive my calendar from Act 2006 (version 8.0).  This is the most critical of my tasks...I need a mobile calendar and I'm not willing to switch from Act.  How do I get my calendar from Act 8.0 to my E71?
    Thanks!

    PC Suite already supports Lotus Notes.
    However IBM/Lotus has announced an S60 client (Lotus Notes Traveler) with Nokia (but it is IBM/Lotus that has written that application:

  • How to sync an iPhone calendar to an iPad?

    I've got an iPhone with a calendar full of events. Don't need a desktop calendar since the iPhone is always with me and does a great job.
    Got an iPad and can't get the calendar on the iPhone to sync with iPad anyway.

    For me the ideal solution I'm in search of bypasses the requirement of centralizing my calendar on some desktop PC app, or Google Calendars, or Mobile Me (although I would pick Google Calendars if I had to choose since I already use Gmail).
    I just want to have the "bulit-in" iOS calendar app data sync between my iPhone and iPad (without paying for MobileMe). This really should be a no-brainer with iTunes being the hub but I am stuck.
    Even if I did make a move to centralize around say Google Calendars to act as the sync hub, how would I export my iPhone calendar data to import to Google Calendars? What would be the steps?
    Regarding the restore question: iTunes does a backup with every daily iPhone sync I do. I had to restore the iPhone in 2009 but was able to restore from a backup file so I didn't loose any calendar data or any data for that matter (eg, Notes, SMS messages, etc.)

  • IPhone duplicates calendar events on Google's servers and iPad

    Hi all
    I sync my mulptiple Google Calendars via the exchange service Google provides. I've been having some bad hangups and despite my searches across the web and this forum, can only find a small handful of people who seem to experience the same problems. Anybody else in the same boat / have a solution? Thanks in advance!
    The Problems:
    -If I create an event in one calendar (i.e., "Personal) and then change its calendar using an iOS device (for example, to "Appointments"), the change will go through ok on that device... but then my other devices and the google web interface show TWO events, one under "Personal" and the other under "Appointments". Super annoying to have to delete and re-enter all your calendar items, just to avoid duplication. Anybody have a solution??
    -If I use the "tap and drag" method to change the duration or start time of an event those changes almost never sync -- so an event at 1pm gets changed to 2pm, I make the edit and then annoyingly come back to it and discover that it has reverted to 1pm. It sometimes takes 2 or even 3 attempts before it finally locks in.
    -Editing the event title also frequently does not sync.
    I've tried to use the calDAV option to rectify some of these problems, but in my opinion calDAV is even worse  - no push support, and if I change an event's calendar it often just disappears on Google's servers, or the event sits there under the original calendar and acts like no change was made. I need google for work, or I'd consider using iCloud - and my schedule is pretty intense so I'm constantly changing and editing, and all these problems have been a constant nuisance.
    Thanks to any and all who can help!

    go to icloud.com and manage your account. delete the other calendars you have, set you default cals

  • Calendar Portlet Customization

    Hi,
    How to customize the Calendar portlet available in Colloboration?
    1.This calendar portlet acts more like a outlook personalized calendar which come as an out of the box feature in weblogic product suite.
    2. In our project requierment, the calendar should be viewed by other users. How to achieve this? The manager should view the calendar of his reportee. This kind of feature we needs to implement? Any thoughts on this?
    3. As well as , how to store the calendar details into project specific schema tables instead of storing the details into portal schema table? By default the calendar details are stored into weblogic portal schema. How to by pass this and to store the details into project specific schema?
    Please share some useful links and any sample code? It is very urgent.
    Thanks & regards,
    Rajesh

    To configure the Calendar portlet for a shared view, please see the following documentation:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15919_01/wlp.1032/e14244/collab.htm#CHDDFCFE
    For any other changes, including changing the persistence to not use the BEA Content Repository, you'll need to implement this yourself. I don't know of anyone who has done this before but perhaps someone has and you'll get a response with some sample code. Note that the portlet source code is provided with the product. Here's a short description of where the source code is and how to get it into your project for modification:

  • Calendar Data backed up/saved?

    I want to update my iPhone to 3.1.3 (currently on 3.1), and I use the calendar on my phone as my organizer with events, appointments and stuff in so I can keep track.
    I was wondering if the iPhone/iTunes backs this data up? So that if my phone software was updated or I had any problems the data within the Calendar can be retrived from a back up?
    Thankyou, any help will be gladly appreciated.

    This is whats in a Backup http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
    The answer appears to be No - the backup has the account details but not the content. the Calendar is designed to be synced with something else like Gmail calendar to act as its backup.

    thanks a lot....for intrest....
    I have found some details about the Julian calendar as follows:
    The Julian date for 2006: JAN: 01:12:01:59 is 2453737.00138
    245 represent the year digits for year 2006
    3737 represent the date fir 1 Jan
    .00138 represents the time for 12:01:59
    Julian date change as per every day 12 noon it increase one digit in it.
    As per ref from
    http://www.aavso.org/observing/aids/jdcalendar.shtml
    Also chk this calendar where Julian date is 20. October 2006 for 02 November 2006
    As per ref from
    http://www.calendar.sk/julian_calendar-en.php
    I have tried the pure GregorianCalendar class from jdk1.4 API and its setGregorianChange method but not getting as per the expected Julian date format. Using the setGregorianChange() i have setting the cutover date to Long.MAX_VALUE it means GregorianCalendar now have to act as per the Julian calendar ...so after setting the cutover date it return me changed date using getGregorianChange() but that was not the Julian date of the current date...as expected or as per above both scenario. Even though the last two digits are nowhere equal to the actual Julian date.
    Program
    GregorianCalendar cal = new GregorianCalendar();
    cal.setGregorianChange(new Date(Long.MAX_VALUE)); // setting the calendar to act as a pure Julian calendar.
    // cal.set(Calendar.DATE, new Date().getDate()); // seting the current date
    // Date todayJD = cal.getGregorianChange(); // getting the changed date after the setGregorianChange
    Date todayJD = cal.getTime(); // getting the calculated time of todays Julian date
    SimpleDateFormat sdfJulianDate = new SimpleDateFormat("yyDDD");
    SimpleDateFormat sdfJuliandayOfYear = new SimpleDateFormat("DDD");
    System.out.println("today Date = " + new Date());
    System.out.println("Today as julian date = " + sdfJulianDate.format(todayJD));
    System.out.println("Today as day of year = " + sdfJuliandayOfYear.format(todayJD));
    OUTPUT:
    USING : Date todayJD = cal.getGregorianChange();
    Today Date = Thu Nov 02 15:17:05 IST 2006
    Today as julian date = 94229
    Today as day of year = 229
    USING : cal.set(Calendar.DATE, new Date().getDate());
    Today Date = Thu Nov 02 15:19:22 IST 2006
    Today as julian date = 06319
    Today as day of year = 319
    USING : Date todayJD = cal.getTime();
    Today Date = Thu Nov 02 15:17:59 IST 2006
    Today as julian date = 06306
    Today as day of year = 306
    There is one another concept i found to get the Julian day of the year as per the Julian day chart mention on nasa site (http://angler.larc.nasa.gov/armsgp/JulianDayChart.html) and i m getting the moth of the year that is 306 for nov 02 2006 using getTime() method in above code then the out put is right for Julian day. But it was not as per the expected Julian date format. So in conclusion we can only able to retrieve the day of year for the Julian calendar. hope their will be a solution for this problem in java api ....else we allways have to depend upon the third party api that was not accepteble some times.....
    Kindly chk chart on the site

  • Filtering of ToDos in Apple Mail

    I'm impressed with the ToDo view in the new Mail 3.0. However, I can see no way of filtering the list. In particular, I am attempting to hide completed ToDo items. I've searched the menus and interrogated the Help file without success. I cannot believe that this basic setting has been omitted. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    The column sorts are quite sophisticated and it's easy to avoid having future To Dos at the top of the list. I'm currently looking at my list and it is headed by items with no due date, followed by items for Tomorrow and running down to the most distant item. All completed items are sorted at the end of the list. I notice, incidentally, right clicking on the To Do icon in the sidebar brings up the opportunity to create a new calendar--in effect creating a category. If anyone were dedicated enough to create dozens of calendars to act as categories, the calendar column in Notes would allow a sort into calendars/categories. It's a rough and ready form of filter, but certainly not the answer. I've never understood iCal's obsession with having lots of calendars. Other PIMs, including Entourage, do very nicely with one calendar and a set of customisable categories.

  • Critical Path Breaks up!

    Hello MVPs,
    A challenging problem, for me atleast.
    To put it in simple terms:-
    --- 10 tasks all linked to FS, 5 day duration, 1 resource, Standard calendar & Base calendar (THG_Cal-7 in file) of M-F 5d x 8hrs
    --- All activities in Red critical path, so far so good, please see attached file.
    --- Once I change the calendar of Act-5 in the middle to Cal-2 (20hr x 7d), the critical path breaks up!
    My querries are:-
    1. How does MSP calculates critical path, based on Project Calender, Elapsed time, Task calender?
    2. Is it possible in MSp to allocate calenders to logical links like Primavera P6 or other scheduling software
    3. Why MSP calculates Total slack as 6days for Act-5, which means based on Task calender not Project calender?
    4. Lastly Whats the wayout to indicate correct critical path incase your programme has >1000 activities?
    Your comments would be much appreciated.
    Cheers!

    Dominic Moss,
    The idea that Critical Path iquals zero float is something that was created when there was found the first solutions to the problem: How long will my project take to be finished;
    Later analysis discovered that are many situations not covered by the way CPM calculates FLOATS, based in the step-backwards from last date and only through a series of tasks connected between each other.
    Therefore, in several situations - in special when there are resource leveling - MS-Project looses the ability to perform the Critical Path identification as it does exclusively with the Critical Path definition from the CPM.
    I have been debating this topic for over 10 years! There is never a consensus.
    However, there is a proof that the concept of Critical Path is broader than before when you see the late changes from PMBOK from 3rd edition to 5th edition.
    Third Edition says:
    “Critical Path. Generally, but not always, the sequence of schedule activities that determines the duration of the Project. Generally, it is the longest path through the project. However, a critical path can
    end, as an example, on a schedule milestone that is in the middle of the project schedule and that has a finish-no-later-than imposed date schedule constraint.” (pag. 357)
    So, it is what MS-Project performs and then in several situations you have a "broken" or "interrupted" Critical Path.
    However, in Fifth Edition, a lot based in findings from the Practice Standard of Scheduling, we have:
    “Critical Path. The sequence of activities that represent the longest path through a project, which determines the shortest possible duration.” (pag. 536)
    The RULE that it must have zero float is taken away from this definition.
    If you run MS-Project Add-ins that perform Resource Critical Path, you will find a Critical Path calculated with zero float BASED in resource restrictions, not task dependencies. This will solve 90% of the problem.
    But you will also find external dependencies and some strange interactions of calendars and types of dependencies that will break both CPM and RCP calculations.
    So, you will actually find certain situations in which the PROJECT Critical Path may have floats.
    To fix these situations, there is an attempted rule from Primavera and there are other manual considerations that can be made, that are expressend in a document from AACE
    AACE International Recommended Practice No. 49R-06
    IDENTIFYING THE CRITICAL PATH
    There, you will find FOUR different methods, in all we have commont the principle that the Critical Path is always the longest path, not necessarily the one defined by floats.
    “There are several accepted methods for determining the critical path. The four most frequently used methods include the following:
    Lowest Total Float – The activities with the lowest total float (sometimes abbreviated as “TF”) values may be considered critical path activities. This calculated value may be a positive number, zero, or even a negative number.
    Negative Total Float – Using this classification method, any activity that has negative float is considered critical, even if other activities have a lower negative float value. Under this classification, if an activity is contributing
    to late project completion then it is worthy of inclusion on the critical path list regardless of its direct contribution to delayed project completion. Another way of framing this concept is to say that any work is understood to be critical if it scheduled
    to be completed after the date required for a timely project completion.
    Longest Path – The concept and term, “longest path” has existed since the beginning of formal CPM theory. Commercial implementation of this process into a defined algorithm has only recently been made and is recommended for projects that
    use multiple calendars and activity constraints.  The longest path calculation begins by identifying the activities that have an early finish equal to the latest calculated early finish for the project and then identifies all driving relationships for
    these activities and traces them back to the project start date. This special calculation scheme is currently only instituted in Primavera scheduling software products. When discussing the theory of longest path, we will use the phrase using lower-case letters.
    When describing the Primavera software  feature called, “Longest Path,” we will use upper-case to distinguish the implementation from the theory.
    Longest Path Value Method - The principle of longest path value differs from the approach used by Primavera in that, instead of just noting activity inclusion or exclusion from the longest path, a numerical value is calculated for each
    activity that describes the degree of longest path much like float describes the degree of criticality. Other principles are also enforced that will be described below. “
    In other words:
    - Use MS-Project with an add-in (Complete Critical Path can be found in Google)
    - Use other tools (Spider Project, Primavera, and some others)
    - Always double check the paths, and consider the activities with LESS float (Gregg´s response) in some parts of your schedule.

    Peter Mello, PMP, PMI-SP,SpS

  • Server 10.8 Network Account Users with iCloud Accounts

    Hello,
    I have a server running OS 10.8.2 and a few client Macs all running 10.8.2
    Two people in the office login to network accounts stored on the server. When these users enter their personal iCloud credentials to use the various services (Contacts, Calendar, Mail, etc.) they run into issues...
    Each time the Contacts app is launched it reloads all information from iCloud – this takes a few minutes; launching the Mail app is extremely slow as well – it does not recognize the iCloud contacts and will not save custom signatures when entered into the Mail preferences; the Calendar app acts sporadically as well based on the fact that the Contacts are sporadic – birthdays are duplicated and the notification center notifies the user of the same birthday over and over again.
    I'm not sure what's going on... Is the use of iCloud supported by network hosted home folders??
    I'm appreciative of all your help!
    Thanks so much,
    Max

    An update: I deleted the users via the Server app, then deleted the corresponding home directoires via the Finder on the server.
    I then recreated the users in the Server app and all seems to work fine. Also, on another note I realized that when a network user logs into a computer for the first time, Spotlight indexes the entire computer. We have a couple Mac Pros in here with over 8 TB of data and this indexing slows things down for the network user.
    One issue remains and it may be a bug: the Mail app will not save signatures and rules that network users create. Once the user logs out those settings are lost. This is a bummer...
    Anyone else experiencing this? Anyone know a fix?
    Thanks,
    Max

  • HT1386 Ever since I had to replace my PC hard drive, my outlook contacts and calendar no longer sync.  It acts like it's syncing, but it isn't.  I now have two hard drives - c and g, but I'm pretty sure the Outlook data is still on c.  Any other ideas?

    Hello - I just had to replace the hard drive on my pc, and now my Outlook calendar and contacts won't sync to my iphone 5s.  I ended up getting two hard drives (C and G), so I'm afraid that might have something to do with it - although I'm pretty sure Outlook files still live in the normal place on C. Itunes sync acts as if it's working, but nothing changes on my phone.  Any ideas?  Thanks!!

  • Using ACT as database/calendar with iPhone 3GS.  On intial sync, i Phone picked up everything but won't sync with new data added to ACT.  Any thoughts and tk in advance

    Using ACT 10 as calander/data base.  When intial syncing with iPhone 3 GS it picked up all contacts and dates.  It is not picking up any changes / additions to the data base or calendar in any following syncs.  Any thoughts?  Tks in advance

    This is normal and is how Apple handles photos.
    There are NOT duplicate photos.
    Just as a song is in your itunes library and you can access that exact same song from a playlist,  all  photos synced to iphone are in the photo library and those exact same photos (NOT duplicates) can be accessed from the individual albums.
    It is working exactly as it should.
