Calendar issues in iPhone 3G when syncing with Exchange

2 issues so far found with the calendar function on the iPhone 3G.
1. After an entry is typed into my PC, it will upload just fine to my iPhone, but once on the iPhone, I cannot edit or delete it from my handheld. Anyone know if there is a fix to this?
2. I cannot send calendar invites right from my iPhone, only recieve and accept/decline/maybe them. Anyone know how to send an invite to someone/multiple people right from my iPhone?
thanks

I found the fix from another post. Fix was posted by cmaglinger.
You have to match the capitalization or the exact format of your email address from active directory.
On my iPhone, I first had exchange configured with all lowercase characters for my email, but my email in AD had some capitals. So, I just changed my iPhone to match AD.
That fixed 2 things for me:
1) Quit getting invitations from everything that I created even if just me attending.
2) I am now able to edit all appointments wether created on pc or iPhone.
Hope this helps you too.

  • Iphone deleted all phone numbers when synced with Exchange, Please Help!!

We recently received new Iphones for the Administrative staff and thought that like other Smartphones we've used in the past that syncing with Exchange would be a breeze. After doing a bit of research everything pointed towards it being a very simple process, this is the process I followed:
Open up Itunes with Iphone connected
Click your iPhone in the "Devices" section on the left
    Click the "Info" tab
In the Contacts section, check "Sync contacts with" and select "Outlook"
    Click "All Contacts"
Click the "Sync" button in iTunes lower-right corner
Click "Merge", so that your contacts on your iPhone are preserved
This seemed to work but there is one major problem, all of the contacts on the Iphone and the ones imported into Outlook no longer have any phone numbers associated to them. The contacts were all synced into Outlook/Exchange no problem with their respective emails but with no phone numbers at all. Unfortunately the computer which had the backup of this Iphone was recently decommissioned so I have no backup of the phone in its previous state.
Is there any way to recover the old phone numbers/contacts on the phone without having a backup of it in its previous state? I have tried the "Import Sim Contacts" button in the settings on the phone but it doesn't seem to actually do anything. There are over 100 contacts on this particular phone, some of which the phone numbers will be very difficult to retrieve again.
I have to say that I'm not very impressed that the most popular smartphone out there can't even sync with the largest email platform in the enterprise world properly. If anybody can help me retrieve those numbers some how I would be extremely appreciative.

So is this not a common issue?
This is the first I have heard of it... but I'm only one person.

Does the Iphone actually support 2-way sync with Outlook properly or will it erase all of the numbers on the phone every time?
If you are syncing directly with Outlook, there are options in iTunes to determine which set of contacts takes priority when duplicates are found.  Personally I do not use this.  I have my device set up to sync directly with the exchange server so all changes are made directly on the server.
Personally I would recommend against using Outlook as the intermediary.  You will get much more consistent and reliable results if the iPhone syncs directly with the exchange server and no worries if the end user has not synced the device in days/weeks/months.

  • IPhone out-of-sync with Exchange after performing inbox search?

    Hey everyone,
I work as an IT technician for an Enterprise where the majority of end-users utilize iPhones (4 and 4s) and iPads (all versions) with varying versions of iOS. Many of these people have ActiveSync set up with our Exchange Server (2008RS, Exchange 2010). We have received a pretty consistent amount of user complaints for a while where end-users' iPhones will [seemingly randomly] become out of sync; i.e. they delete an email on their iPhone and their Outlook doesn't reflect this for hours or visa-versa.
We have traced this down to indexed searching with the iPhone. In a nutshell, if an end-user tries to search their inbox for an email using the search feature, this is when everything becomes out-of-sync with Exchange. The workaround is restarting the phone (for some reason restarting the Mail app doesn't help).
I am curious if anyone has more information around this or perhaps a fix so we're not having to tell people (namely Executives and VIPs with larger inboxes...thus searching is used more) to restart their iPhones all the time.
I thank each of you in advance for any advice you may have. Thanks!
    -Ryan

    Hi mehrardt,
It does sound like the exchange email account has to be removed from the iPhone and then added again.
If he has another personal email account on the iPhone, you can have him delete the exchange account and then tap a configuration profile that you emailed him.
The iPhone Configuration Utility available here: http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/enterprise/ will let you create a configuration profile with certificates, which you can email. The receiver would just tap the profile and it would configure the iPhone.

  • Yearly recurring meeting created on iPhone breakes iCal sync with exchange

I encounter a reproducable bug with Snow Leopard 10.6.1's iCal stopping sync with Exchange 2007 SP1 (Update Rollup 7), as soon a i create a yearly recurring meeting on iPhone 3GS connected to same Exchange Server via Active Sync.
After creating this meeting, syncing in iCal is broken, reporting following error:
    iCal[31968]: GetCalendarItem operation failed
iCal[31968]: error = Error Domain=CalExchangeErrorDomain Code=-11 UserInfo=0x117a06cc0 "iCal kann keine Ereignisse im Kalender „Kalender“ aktualisieren."
    iCal[31968]: Queue operation failed
iCal will never get synced anymore, until this one meeting is deleted via iPhone, OWA or Outlook. Please note: E-Mail and contacts still sync without problems.
Can anyone having a similiar setup confirm this to be problem!?
Where can i "report" this officially to apple?
    Used versions:
    Mac OSX 10.6.1
    iCal 4.0 (1362)
    iPhone 3GS 3.1.2
    Exchange 2007 SP1 Update Rollup 7
So everything up to date, except for exchange 2007 missing some fixes...
To better reproduce this, here's the procedure:
On iPhone create a new meeting, make it "whole day", set recurring to "weekly" and voila, next time you sync iCal it stops with exclamation mark!
After testing, delete the meeting, but make sure to delete ALL instances, otherwise syncing won't work anymore:-(

    Hello all there,
i was strubbeling with the same problem, but i found 'a' solution.
Let's hope that apple would fix this in the next version of iCal.
If iCal is saying that it cannot be synced, and you found an error like this "error = Error Domain=CalExchangeErrorDomain Code=-11 UserInfo=...." in your console, try this (read carefully).
    *What i have done.*
    1. Get an pc with MS Windoos en MS outlook in your exchange network (yes really, you need it)
    2. Open MS outlook (i used 2007).
    3. Export your calender to a .pst backup file
    4. Then navigate to "View > Current View" and hit "all events".
    5. Select all events then delete them all
    6. Import your backup file to the calender.
    7. From step 3 to 6, they are waste of time.
*So... what you need to do*
    01. Open iCal and remove your exchange account.
    02. Get an pc with MS Windoos en MS outlook in your exchange network (yes really, you need it)
    03. Open MS outlook (i used 2007).
    04. Then navigate to "View > Current View" and hit "returning events".
    05. Note all of your returning events in notepad (also events from the past).
+You can also delete these events from the past+
    06. Now delete all these "returning events".
    07. Press the send and recieve all button in outlook.
    08. Grab a cup of coffee
    09. Start iCal and re-setup your exchange account.
If your exchange account is syncing with iCal then you can recreate the returning events. If it isn't syncing try to remove some other data, but be shure that you have created a backup file.
In my case the error was in one of the returning events, but i have figured that out to delete group of events en try'd to sync again.
Please note that my 3G iPhone was syncing very good, at time of this problem.
This are the console error messages:
11/6/09 06 Nov 15:16:26 iCal[291] Couldn't find an NSTimeZone to match the SerializableTimeZone
11/6/09 06 Nov 15:16:26 iCal[291] WARNING: Failed to find TimeZone Identifier for Windows MeetingTimeZone: Casablanca
    11/6/09 06 Nov 15:16:26 iCal[291] error = Error Domain=CalExchangeErrorDomain Code=-11 UserInfo=0x11a287ee0 "iCal can’t refresh events in the calendar “Calendar”."
    My setup:
MS SMB 2008 with Exchange 2007 (full updated till 2009/11/06 - today)
    iPhone 3G 3.0
    Mac OSX 10.6.1
    iCal 4.0 (1362)
So.... i hope that you can fix your problem with my post.
I will subscripe to this post for a while, so if you need some help; Post it!

  • Contacts created on iPhone won't sync with exchange, only via USB

When I create a new contact on my iPhone from within the phone app, it doesn't get synced to my exchange server, in fact it doesn't show up anywhere in the contacts app or under contacts in the phone app. If I create a new contact from the contacts app it only allows me to create it in my exchange contacts folder but it does sync properly. When I create a contact from within the phone app I am not given a choice of group at all and unless I have a recent call from that contact, it is nowhere to be found on my phone or computer. So the question is how do I get new contacts created on my phone from within the phone app to sync with exchange? The only way I have been able to sync contacts created within the phone app thus far has been with iTunes via USB which works fine but I want to sync contacts bidirectionally via exchange ota.
    Thanks for any help

I have more information to share.
When you launch the Contacts app on the iPhone, hit the "Groups" button in the top left. What I see on that page are these 3 sections:
    All Contacts >
    From My Mac
    All From My Mac >
    Group A >
    Group B >
    Group C >
    etc
    Foobar (Exchange)
    Foobar Global Address List >
After many hours of trial and error, I have come to the understanding that the iPhone Contacts app has potentially multiple data stores which seem to correspond to each sync source configured (eg AddressBook, Exchange, etc.) Refering to my example above, I have enabled Contacts syncing with my AddressBook (via iTunes) and an Exchange mail account, so my iPhone shows 2 separate sections with the generic "All Contacts" appearing as the first section at the top.
Entering the contact listings page via the "All Contacts" button will show an integrated list of contacts from all sync sources (in my case, two: contacts from AddressBook on my Mac and contacts from my Foobar Exchange account).
If you click the "+" button to add a new contact when you have entered the listing page via "All Contacts", it seems the record is only stored on the iPhone and does NOT get sync'd. Specifically, it does not get synced to the Mac AddressBook nor to the Exchange account.
However, if you have entered the listings page via any group in the "From My Mac" section or "Foobar (Exchange)" section, and create a new contact via the "+" button there, that contact DOES get sync'd to the appropriate sync source (AddressBook or Exchange in my case).
Furthermore, if you enter the listings page via a specific group in the "From My Mac" section (eg "Group A") and create a new contact from in there, it will appear in "Group A" in AddressBook after sync. If you enter the listings page via the generic "All From My Mac" button, then the new contact will be added to whatever group you have specified in iTunes (under the iPhone Info tab etc. as mentioned in the prior post).
All up, I guess, there may not be a bug here after all. I must simply always remember to add new contacts when I am in the "All From My Mac" section, if I want them to be synced to my Mac.
However, I do think that it's a confusing and poor user experience (and may lead to loss of data) if you add new contacts from the generic "All Contacts" entry point, because they will NOT be synced as you'd expect them to. I am guessing this also might only happen when you have multiple sync sources defined, simply because the app doesn't know which sync source to associate them with: AddressBook or Exchange? But, at the point of adding that new contact, the app should prompt you for the sync source to use, or at least WARN you that your contact is going to be an orphan record solely residing forever more on your iPhone. If you ever reset your iPhone those contact records would be lost forever.

  • Events doubling up on iPhone 3G when synced with iCal on my iMac

    Hi all,
I'm having an annoying problem with iCal on my iPhone 3G...
I'm happily using iCal on my iMac and everything seems up to date, days and events look perfectly normal on there. However, when I sync it up with my iPhone 3G, for some reason some events (but not all) are being doubled up on my iPhone. They aren't there on my iMac's copy of iCal - that still looks correct.
I tried going through and deleting the extra events from my iPhone. As soon as I synced again with my iMac, all the rogue events reappeared on my iPhone. Tried it a few times, same result.
I have a feeling the rogue events that are appearing on my iPhone are ones that I originally inputted onto my iPhone's copy of iCal, then a few weeks later I've adjusted them, deleted them, generally tidied up my calendar through iCal on my iMac. This might be why it's only doing it to a few events I've added, not all of them. When I re-sync, it's like they keep being resurrected on my iPhone.
I've tried re-syncing using the Advanced option in iTunes where you replace information on the iPhone - the rogue events still came back on my iPhone. I also just tried going to my iSync preferences and resetting my Sync History. Didn't fix it.
I don't use MobileMe and I have no other computers or calendars so there's nothing else trying to sync up that might be generating these doubled up events. I'm not doing anything other than try and sync my iPhone 3G with my iMac through iTunes.
Any ideas where these extra events are coming from and how I can flush them out of my iPhone's copy of iCal?

I just posted this in another thread, but I'll summarize it here for you:
I had three groups of calendars in the Calendar app on my iPhone (OS 3.0): calendars from my MobileMe account, a set of calendars I had subscribed to with iCal, and calendars entitled "From My Mac" which was a duplicate of every calendar from the other two groups. What I wanted was to go back to having just the MobileMe syncing over the air, plus the subscribed calendars, so everything would be continuously updated instantly. I didn't need a duplicate set of static calendars, and so I wanted to get rid of the calendars in the group "From My Mac".
I made sure I'd unchecked the checkboxes for iCal in the Info tab of iTunes for my iPhone, and then applied the sync. Unfortunately, this did not remove that new special group of calendars for my iPhone, yet. I guess it kept them just in case. (Side note: Interestingly, when I recreated my problem to re-test this, I forgot to do this again. The checkbox for the Calendars seems to magically uncheck itself if I go through the rest of the steps without doing this first. I think iTunes gets informed from the cloud at some point, perhaps after I decide to delete the calendars in the "From My Mac" group from within the iPhone. So, you may not need to do this. Anyways, make sure it's unchecked so it won't happen again…)
On the iPhone, I opened the Settings app, went into "Mail, Contacts, Calendars", chose my MobileMe account, and then turned off the Calendars. It asked me whether I wanted to delete the MobileMe calendars from my iPhone and I chose "Delete from My iPhone". Note that the message explicitly refers to your iPhone and not MobileMe, so you are not deleting them from MobileMe. (But please do read the messages and don't assume that's what it says. There are many prompts.) If you don't delete them for your iPhone, they'll get added to the "From My Mac" group of calendars. This isn't a problem since this group will get deleted later, so you can choose either to keep them, or delete them now.
Wait a moment before turning the Calendars back on, to give it time to process the "offing". When turning the Calendars on, I was asked whether I wanted to merge the MobileMe calendars with the existing calendars on my iPhone, that special group I was trying to get rid of. I chose "Do not Merge" because I didn't want even more duplicates, I just wanted what I had in the cloud, on MobileMe.
After not merging the calendars, next it asked whether I wanted to keep the existing calendars I had on my iPhone. I chose to "Delete" them, which it then asked me to confirm (Delete or Cancel) so again I chose "Delete". (And once again, please read the messages carefully and don't assume what they say just because what is written here. The messages might change with updates.) When I opened the Calendars app on the iPhone, the "From My Mac" group of calendars was completely gone. I was back to what I had before, just two groups: the MobileMe calendars I had just turned on, and the subscribed calendars that I hadn't touched.
I think the key is to not merge with the duplicate set of calendars, and to not keep them. Otherwise, you can't go wrong because everything is on MobileMe, as long as you're synced with it.

  • Getting duplicate contact info on my iphone 4s when syncing with outlook 2010

I'm having duplicate phone numbers show up on my iPhone 4s when I sync to my Outlook contacts via iTunes.  I've tried deleting the duplicate on my phone, but then when I go back to Outlook contacts I find the phone number has been deleted.  Any ideas?

  • Purchased app on iPhone - disappeared when synced with itunes

I purchased an app on my phone a couple weeks ago. Today I synced with iTunes on my PC and the app disappeared from my phone and does not appear in the list of apps in iTunes. "Check for available downloads" in iTunes said that I had no available downloads. The purchase of the app did show up in my purchase history, but that seemed to be the only place.
I was able to get the app back by attempting to purchase it again, at which point iTunes allowed me to download it again for free. However, all of the application data is still gone. And since I synced more than once in this process, the initial iPhone backup (which should have contained all that was lost) has now been overwritten.
This has happened to me several times before, but this is the first time where the application data has been important.
Any ideas as to what went wrong?
Is there any hope for me to recover my application data at this point?
Any way for me to prevent this happening again? (short of never syncing...)

I doubt very much that you can recover the data at this point. The safe way to do things (I found for me at least) is download apps initially via iTunes instead of your phone, then mark them for syncing and do the normal sync. I purchased all of my apps this way and sync several times a week with no problem. I also do all the app updates thru iTunes.

  • My ical events showing up as "new events" on my ipad and iphone when synced with exchange?

I am running exchange 2010 and have my macbook, iPad and iPhone syncing to exchange. I noticed that lately after my lion upgrade it is changing the ical meeting events that I create on my macbook show up on my iPad and iPhone as "new events". All of the information entered into the event is gone. This is really frustrating and is starting to become a problem. I need to find a solution soon. I updated to ICloud and have been having some issues.. my emails on my iphone are very slow to open and all the new items I have added to my calendar over the last couple days are not syncing to my phone.  HELP!

Assuming the iPhone and iCloud.com site has the correct calendar and is syncing OK, then open the iCloud prefs in System Preferences and deselect Calendars from the list. That should delete all calendars from iCal. Once done, reselect Calendars in the iCloud prefs.
    See if that helps.

You want the apps deleted from your iTunes library?
If you don't have Install selected for an app in your iTunes library, it won't be installed on your iPhone.
If you want the apps deleted from your iTunes library, select Apps under Library in the iTunes source list. Locate the apps you want to delete, select the apps there followed by deleting the apps.

I don't believe this is a generic problem with the server because other users with iOS 4.0.1 and iPhone 4's are able to use the server. When one of those users who successfully uses it with his account configured his iPhone to access my account he received the same error. I am able to use my iPhone to access exchange accounts on other servers. Therefore I suspect there is a problem with just my account on just this server when it is accessed from any iPhone.
Has anyone seen anything like this before? Is there anyplace I can look up "DAErrorDomain error 111" to get more information on what may be failing?

  • HT1386 How do we keep one phone contacts seperate from the other when syncing with itunes

How do you keep one phones contacts, calendar, etc from another phone when syncing with itunes?

    Disable auto-syncing. Here’s how:
    1. Before you plug the iPhone or iPod into the computer, go to iTunes.
    2. On a Mac, go to the iTunes menu -> Preferences -> Devices.
On a PC, go to Edit -> Settings -> Devices
    3. In the pop up window, look for the icon or tab that says Devices. Choose it.
    4. Just below the box, you’ll see a checkbox reading "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically."
    5. Check it and click OK at the bottom of the window.
Now when you plug the phone in it won't automatically star syncing.
