Calendar Notifications / Alerts / Reminders killing my battery

I haven't found any comments on this specifically....
I have noticed that if I leave a calendar notification/reminder on the screen, my battery dies very rapidly.  With the phone in airplane mode, a notification on the screen seems to kill the battery in 6-8 hours (maybe less).  If I disable notifications and leave the phone in airplane mode, the battery drops only ~ 5-10% in 6-8 hours.
It looks like pulseaudio, mediaserver, and LunaSysMgr are all pretty active while the notificaiton is on the screen.  (I left top running before a notification appeared so I could see what was going on.)
Has anyone else seen this?  Perhaps it is well-known and I am missing it in my searches.
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

I saw this before the most recent update.  I had noticed that my battery life was generally better on weekends than during the week.  It has always been that way.  One big difference is that I tend to have a lot of calendar appointments during the work day, and I don't always dismiss them.
In the process of looking at possible improvements (kernels, etc.), I happened to leave Govnah open and noticed that the CPU was running at the higher/max frequency all the time when I had the "on demand" governer enabled when I turned on my phone and there was a notification/reminder on the screen.  As soon as I dismissed it, the frequency went down.
So, I went back to the default config and left top running and noticed pulseaudio was running, etc..  With the "normal" / default kernel running, I see the same behavior -- my battery dies very quickly if I leave notifications on the screen (even with the phone in airplane mode).
To clarify... airplane mode is not required to see the issue.  I only enabled that as a debug step to eliminate differences due to being connected to a network, etc..  This issuce occurs in airplane mode or when connected to 3G, etc..

With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.

  • Bluetooth Earpiece does not receive audible Calendar or Text alerts

Bluetooth Earpiece(Jawbone ICON with A2DP) does not give me an audible alert when I receive Texts or Calendar reminders.
My phone vibrates, but I what I want is my chosen alert tone in my ear.
When I get a phone call, I get the phone number read to me and the alert tone.
I have tried turning the A2DP off and about a hundred other things.
    All help appreciated.
    Thanks,
    -Mark-

There is a slight delay when the phone and headset begin to communicate for A2DP audio. Usually, things like calendar and SMS alerts are too short to be heard in the headset. You'll notice that if you are actively listening to music streaming to the headset from the phone or having a conversation, you will hear the alerts.
If you don't use your headset to stream audio, and only use it for phone calls. Disable A2DP on the headset. You will hear the alerts from the phone speaker in that case. You will probably never get the alerts on the headset unless you're actively listening to something already.

  • Every single event in my calendar has 2 default reminders, how do I change that?

    Hello!
As said in the title - every single event in my calendar has 2 default reminders (not just birthdays and all-day events), how do I change that? The reminders are one by notification and one by email... It's fairly annoying please help (The Preferences don't seem to address this issue)

Question. Does this disable all email alerts? Or does it merely stop overriding the Calendar email alerts that are set?
Your answer gives me hope that I can stop unwanted alerts and enable manual alerts only.

  • Appointment alert/reminders default on the iphone

When I use Ical for my Imac I can configure it to create reminder alerts of all newly created appointments by default, instead of setting the reminder myself. On my iPhone I have to manually set the reminders for each appointment I enter. Is there a way to make appointment alerts/reminders default on the iPhone?

No. Apple would need to implement this feature.
You can submit feedback to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html.

How can you see the name / path of the file to be opened for a Mavericks Calendar Open File alert from the Calendar UI?
Before Mavericks, the file's name would be displayed in the item itself like this:
Now all I see is something more like this:
So I can longer see or verify exactly which file (if any) will be opened.

The mdnsresponder will not quit.  Consumes above 100% CPU and kills my battery.  Also causes my fan to run constantly and my computer to get extremely hot.  Force quitting doesn't work.  It just comes back.   I posted about this earlier and never got an answer.  Somebody, please help.

mDNSResponder is a background process that runs all the time. If you kill it, it's relaunched automatically.
Please launch the Console application and select "system.log" from the file list. Enter "mDNSResponder" (without the quotes) in the search field. Post a sample of the log messages in the Console window -- only one example of each repeated message, please.

  • Help!! - Yosemite/FileVault Disaster Killing my Battery

How do I stop FileVault after enabling it during Yosemite installation? It is saying it will take a YEAR to encrypt my files. I have 220 GB of content, apps etc included, on my computer.
Looks like the process has stalled but it keeps trying to proceed with the result that my battery is overheating and drains down very quickly. FileVault is literally killing my battery.
Having reviewed some posts here, I tried the Command-Option-P-R technique to reset RAM during restart (to no avail), and Disk Utility cannot switch off the encryption (option to do so is grayed out).
Looking at Activity Monitor, I see that something called SystemUIServer is using 60% of CPU.
MY QUESTIONS:  Is there anything I can "Force Quit" to stop FileVault? If not, can I reinstall Yosemite without enabling FileVault? If so, how do I do that? (I upgraded to Yosemite via the Mac App Store.)

If not, can I reinstall Yosemite without enabling FileVault? If so, how do I do that? (I upgraded to Yosemite via the Mac App Store.)
You do not have to enable File Vault. Do a backup. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors.  Then re-install the OS.

  • Google calendar sends e-mail reminders, iCal shall not trigger Mail

I am using several Google calendars. I configured Google calendar to send reminders via e-mail. Unfortunately, iCal tries to do the same now. So for every entry in one of my Google calendars, Mail appears and wants to send a reminder e-mail ... Very annoying. What I would like to have, however, is the following:
E-Mail alarms come via Google calendar and on screen reminders come via iCal. Under no circumstances, however, Mail shall send e-mail reminders itself.
    Any way to achieve this?

    Hi,
Not exactly what you're asking for but… you can disable all alarms for a calendar in iCal by selecting the calendar in the Calendar list, pressing Cmd-I and from the info window that should appear checking "Ignore alarms".
    Best wishes

I am about to go get my 4th iphone 4s since November!  Up in the left corner where it shows your signal strength, it goes into searching mode and stays there.  Kills my battery.  While in searching, no calls can be made/recieved, no internet, etc. This one has lasted the longest-I got it December 23.  Any ideas out there?

Both.  The first two, I did use my itunes.  The guy at the apple store said that could be the problem.  The last time they gave me a new phone and SIM card, and the tech said it wouldnt be the itunes.  Just to be safe, I never connected this phone to the itunes until last night-after it started searching- to save everything since I'm sure they will be replacing the phone today.  But hey, thanks for the suggestions.  I'm about at my wits end with Apple!!  Especially since i added a third line to my account just so I could get an iphone back.
