Calendar ordering failed but charged my credit card!

I created a calendar with iPhoto (running on latest version of Lion).  I started the ordering process.  I was taken to a screen to sign in to my apple account and to verify the charge for the calendars (ordered 2 of them). I submitted the order.  Then a screen said oops, the Apple store was temporarily unavailable!
I checked my bank account, and sure enough, Apple charged me for the calendars.  But on my account there is no order number or any other sign of the order actually having gone through.  I'm pretty sure -- never ordered through iphoto before -- that my pictures weren't uploaded to apple to create the calendars.
I'm wondering how to get a refund?

    You can contact iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption
    To try and stop it happening again you can turn off in-app purchases on your phone via Settings > General > Restrictions > In-App Purchases 'off'

    I agree. I cancelled my premium account months ago and am still getting charged.  The lack of any support contacts for "paying" customers is inexcusable. I will be asking my credit card company to refund their charges.

    then credit card details will need to be entered before the account can be used to download any item from the store.
    If you are being prompted to review the account then see if this post by mountaingoatgirl lets you do so without needing to enter credit card details : https://discussions.apple.com/message/24303054
    If not then you will need to enter your credit card details - you should be able to remove it after entering it.

    As long as you are buying content for yourself (you can't use your balance to gift content) then your account's balance should be used up first before any remainder is charged to your card.

    Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534 - only works for new accounts!  You must follow the instructions exactly.
    Since you already have an account you probably don't want to make another one (you cannot merge them later).  Or I guess you could for the sake of the free stuff and then carefully manage your accounts in future.

    Nonesense, why would a service that offers redeemable cards as cash would require a credit card verification. Who is answering this question? I am sick of Apple!     After establishing the Credit Card account (i.e. after you have made purchases), you can remove the credit card information by editing your payment info, choosing "None".

    Not its not legal as per guidelines set forth in the Fair Credit Billing Act set into motion by the FTC. While they can reserve the funds they cannot actually bill it until the the merchandise is shipped. A report to your credit card company should be able to resolve this matter.

    Did you read the entire article? I did and I got a completely different take on what the FTC was trying to say. My understanding of the article is that the company can charge your card as soon as a delivery date is given. The company also has the abiity to inform you of any delays in receiving the equipment. It is up to you to accept the delay (i.e. not saying anything) or cancel the order for a full refund. Why would there be a refund if the company had never charged you to begin with, there wouldn't be a refund. What the article IS saying is that you have a legal recourse should you NEVER receive the merchandise or are not notified of any delays. Review chapter 4, section 161, paragraph 3 of the actual act.

    I've seen this question a dozen times, and nearly every time, the first person to answer assumes it was a gifted purchase. Weird.
    Same problem here. Books are going to credit card despite sufficient balance on iTunes credit. Seems to be a common problem.
