Calendar: reoccurring events

event s schedule to repeat every week between sept and december, show fine in my iCal, but my new iPod copies it for EVERY DAY for that time period, rather then once a week, as it correctly shows in the iCal.
I tried deleting and re-entering - same thing.
I didn't have this problem with my old iPhone.
Any suggestions?

Welcome to the Apple community.
You can only restore them from a backup. This has occurred because you are sharing an iCloud account. ideally you should each have your own iCloud account, that way you can each manage your own mail, contacts, calendars, documents etc and avoid unintentional deletions and unwanted editing. If there is information you wish to share between you, this can be done with a secondary account.
Having separate iCloud accounts, doesn't mean you have to have separate iTunes accounts, so whilst you keep your personal data separate, you can continue to share music, apps, books, TV shows, movies etc.

  • Unable to Delete Upcoming Reoccurring Events

    iCal - Version 3.0.8 (1287)
    on 10.5.8 dual proc G5
I have a reoccurring event which I wish to delete all forward occurrences of. So I select the date which I want everything gone after and hit the Delete key. All events, past AND future go away. I never get the option "Delete - All or All Future."
I then look at the event itself. Each one is listed as a stand alone time on each date. There is no indication that they are reoccurring: the Repeat line says, "None." Yet when I delete one, they ALL delete.
I have done the usual tricks of trying key + Delete combinations, but nothing has been helpful.
Wondering if anyone else out there has experienced this and/or has a suggestion for a solution.
    thxs much in advance!

    Hello CP,
It sounds like you have either a bad cache or a bad event file.
    Try the following:
1.) Backup your iCal data (File > Backup iCal or File > Export>iCal Archive)
2.) Remove the following to the trash and restart:
    ~/Library/Caches
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ical* (There may be more than one iCal file. Pull them all.)
~/Library/Calendars/Cache (pull any item that says Cache, Cache 1, etc)
3.) If the issue keeps happening I would make a new repeating event and then try deleting it. If it works alright get rid of the event in question and re-create it.
    Hope that helps.

  • Calendar (reoccuring birthdays) clog up my space!

    Hi,
after updating to ios 7 I had 8GB free space. This space was eaten up by events in my calendar. My calendar is pretty much empty besides some birthday events which were probably imported from facebook. It now seems that these reoccuring events clog all my free space up and I can't get rid of them. I have tried everything but I can't delete them. I turned all the access to my calendar off, even deleted facebook but those events are still there.
I read another thread where this was written:
    "Steps to fix:
    1.  Turned off Push and then set the Fetch settings to Manual to prevent any updates to the calendars
    2.  Remove/Turn off the calendar with the events.  This can take a LONG TIME.  I had to let this run over night. Alternatively you could try and modify the event by adding an end date"
    Unfortunately it did not help.
Please let me know if you have any idea how I can resolve this problem as it is driving me insane!
    Thanks a lot in advance!
    Cheers

My phone has been unusable for 3 days with this infinite growth of the calendar database.  BTW I don't know that it is birthdays but it is the exact same symptom.  I've done two factory resets and restores from backups.  Unfortunately something about iOS7 and my phones calendars are causing the problem.  I've now deleted every email and calendar source and still after a restart the storage grows until none is left.
I wish someone had a real solution.  I guess I'm going to call applecare and see if I can get an answer -- if they will talk to me.

  • Looking for a Calendar-of-events to use in Muse

I am designing a website for an organization that wants to include their training schedule in a calendar of events. My understanding is that Muse does not have that function at this time. Can anyone recommend a third party software that can accomplish this?

    Hello,
In case your website is being hosted on Business Catalyst, you can use the Events module from Adobe Muse to get a calender with schedule.
You need to create the events in Business Catalyst and use the module in Adobe Muse. This is what Adobe recommends. There is no third party software which is officially recommended to get this feature.

  • Calendars and events are missing from iCal

What happened was I closed the lid of my MacBook Pro to put it to sleep. When I opened the lid to wake it, the screen was dark, like it was between 0 brightness and the lowest brightness setting. It also was not responding to trackpad or keyboard input, so I restarted it. However, when my computer started up, it seems as if my Mail.app had reset and everything was gone from my iCal. With Mail.app, after I redid one account, it seemed to return to normal. With iCal, I tried to sync it with my Palm, hoping that my calendars and events would get transferred to iCal. However, that didn't work, and I am getting errors with Missing Sync. The errors I'm getting are:
    OK TimeCopy
    OK Mark/Space Conduit for AvantGo
    OK Mark/Space Contacts
    SyncClient error. Mingling failed.
    OK Mark/Space Events with 1 message(s)
No folders have been selected to synchronize.
    OK Mark/Space Folder Sync
    OK Mark/Space MemoPad
    OK Mark/Space Photos
This conduit cannot be synchronized because there are no writable calendars available to synchronize. To correct this, select a writable calendar in the conduit's configuration window.
    No writable calendars exist
    OK Mark/Space Tasks with 2 message(s)
    OK Adobe Reader
    OK Documents To Go
    OK Note Pad
Anyone have ideas where the issue is?

If you want to use your back up you need to restore then entire Library from Time Machine, and then replace the damaged Library with it.

  • ICal bug  -- leap year has broken reoccuring events

Since last week , when there were 29 days in February instead of 28,  events in iCal which are re-occuring  (a meeting which occurs every month on the second Monday for example) is simply wrong.
It is clear that this is an artifact of "Leap Year." The error compounds.
In March in was off by one day -- scheduled on Tuesday instead of Monday. In April the error compounds... now scheduled on Friday in April.
Events which were scheduled by data "appear" to be correct, but now I don't know that I can even trust them.
This problem propigates through iCloud and infects my iPhone and iPads as well.
    iMac 10.7.3
    iPhone 5.1
    iPad 5.1
    Mac mini 10.6.8
It turns out this Bug dates back to 2008!!!!!
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/6309125#6309125

    No. not really.
I spent some time on the phone with Apple support and basically discovered that if I looked at the reoccurring event back in February (the previous month), it showed up correctly as an event being repeated as, in my case, "Custom, Every Month on the first Monday." However, then comparing that entry to the incorrect March entry, I noted the March entry was showing up as repeat "Every Month." (Which translated into every 30 or 31 days, looking at subsequent events.)
Simply changing the bad March event back to the Custom "Every Month on the First Monday," and then applying it to the forward "worked around" the issue.
We never did come up with any idea what caused the change. (i.e. the support person could find no references to any kind of similar problem.)
I was told to go to "www.apple.com/feedback" and to select "iCal" from the list of "OS C Apps" near the bottom of the page, and report the problem.

    Solutions?

No, I never really found an easy solution.  I believe it is an issue with some corruption in the iTunes database on the specific device.  In my case, both my iPad and iPhone now show duplicate stream songs if viewed through iTunes on my Mac, but they show different songs.  A couple years ago I had a similar issue on my iPhone, and Apple support suggested I back up the phone, completely reset it, and then restore it from the backup.  It did work, so I imagine it would probably work for my current issues with the iPhone and iPad.  But resetting and restoring an iPad or iPhone always makes me a little nervous that something will get lost.  When I did reset/restore the iPhone, I do have to say, the restore process was 100% perfect and I did not lose any data at all even though Apple support said I might.  If you try to go that route, I would suggest backing the device up both to a computer through iTunes, and to the iCloud so that you have a double backup.
None of this really resolves the issue with how the iTunes databases are becoming corrupted on the apple devices though, so it is very likely to happen again until they fix it.  I have been unable to determine if there were any specific actions or conditions which caused the corruption to happen in the first place.
Might be worth another call to Apple support, or dropping in the local Apple store if you have one near by.

This has worked fine with MobileMe with only a couple of minor glitches in the past.
Any experience doing this the "right" way?

  • How to set up reoccurring events in ical

how do you set up reoccurring events in ical?

  • How to skips holidays when creating reoccuring events?

We're a school. And we use ical to keep track of class schedules. We have our classes twice a week and sometimes they fall on holidays. We have our class schedules set up in ical as "Reoccuring Events." How do you have reoccuring events skip holidays?

Although iCal's mechanism for creating recurring events does not support it, iCal itself respects the excluded dates option, if it finds it. So, one possibility would be to create the recurring event, then drag the first occurrence to the Desktop and delete it from iCal. Then use TextEdit (or similar) to add a line after the RRULE line for each excluded date (or put several dates on the one line, separated by commas). Drop the edited file back onto iCal.
A couple of cautions: don't just make a new line, or it upsets iCal - copy and paste and edit an existing one. The time portion of the excluded dates MUST match the time portion of the DTSTART, or iCal will quietly ignore it. In the example below, I have omitted the time zone info that will come before the VEVENT.

    END:VCALENDAR
The EXDATE line was added by copying, pasting and modifying the DTEND line; it causes the 1st and 3rd of July to be omitted from the recurrence. But note that there will now only be 8 occurrences, rather than the 10 initially specified.
Alternatively, you could write an Applescript to generate the recurring events; that is probably an even bigger pain.

  • Calendars lose events

Why has iCal suddenly lost most of my events?
    How can I restore them?

Just found out a way to restore it, I had the same problem.
    1) Using the time machine backup, get your calendar files (<hard drive>/Users/<your user name>/Library/Application Support/iCal /Sources/Calendars) then exit time machine
    2) Open Calendar and export a Calendar Archive to your desktop or wherever
    3) right click the .icbu file, show package contents, and then replace the Calendar folder with the one retrieved from the time machine back up.
    4) Import the file in Calendar, and boom. Old calendars and events are back.

    Hey Armando Stettner,
Thanks for the question, and what a great question it is!
With time zone support on, you can edit an individual event and change the time zone for that event. This list will include options for your default time zones, UTC, and "floating" - the latter of which is what you are looking for. Floating changes the event to occur at the specified time, local time.
For information on changing an event's time zone, see the following resource:
Calendar: Change an event’s time zone

I look forward to hearing how this works for you.
    Cheers!

  • ICal locks up on iPad whenever I change a reoccuring event

When using iCal I often use reoccuring events to place events that happen at generally the same time but differe an hour or two in either direction.  Whenerver I try to move one of these events a little bit it hangs for about 10 seconds then asks if I would like to do it to all future events or just this one.  Then regardless of what option I choose iCal either locks up and has to be quit out through the use of double hitting home or hangs for a good minute.
I don't remember when it started doing this but it is indeed frustrating.

  • Calendars and event data lost in mountain lion upgrade from snow leopard on mac book pro

I just upgraded to mountain lion today. It appears my contacts and emails were transferred without loss to the new system but all of my calendar data and the calendars themselves have disappeared. Does anyone know how I can get my old calendars and event data back? I backed up my laptop on time machine before doing the upgrade, so my old calendars should be on my external hard drive. I'd like to simple recover the data from the laptop if it is just hidden somewhere. Alternatively, if someone could tell me how to import the backed up calendars back in that might be a good plan B. I also still have the old calendars on my iphone which I am afraid to sync for fear of data loss.
I looked through previous responses in the community to this same question and I tried deleting the account and adding it back in but that did not work. Any assistance would be appreciated. Apple support is giving me an cold shoulder that is rather unexpected given my past good experience with Apple support. Bummin out over here

Which way do you reinstall OSX?
I would go through the recovery partition, check Disk there and then run the installer. make sure you have a reliable connection the the Internet.
This could be a third party app you have running in the background that is crashing. what exactly is crashing ?
    are you getting kernel Panics?
You are not able to simply roll back to Snow Leopard, you will have to have a SL disk, and then erase and install SL onto you hdd/ssd. This will erase ALL of your data so I hope you have a Time Machine backup or bootable clone.
I believe your issue is with a third party application installed.
    More information is needed.

On a personal note, I think you are missing out on ML and need to figure out if there is an application running that is causing ML to crash.
Usually a reinstall fixes my issues.
