Calendar sending invites from Outlook instead of Mail

Hi everybody,
Running Macbook Pro 13" 2.6, 8 MB RAM, Mavericks OS.
I used to use Outlook for mail with the account setup through an Outlook Exchange server.  I don't use this account anymore and now use mail. When I create a Calendar event and want to add invitees, it keeps trying to send the invite via Outlook instead of mail. I have removed all accounts from my Outlook account. I have tried to add my new email (Pop) to Calendar but it doesn't want to accept this option. How do I set it to send the invites from my new work email (Mac mail) instead of defaulting to Outlook?

Hi,
See here: http://www.zapptek.com/ical-mail/ .This page has not been updated in a while, but it may be worth emailing them to see if they have something that works for Outlook.
Best wishes

  • Calendar Meeting Invite from Outlook 2010 to iCal

    Hello,
I am very VERY new to Macs and to be honest Calendar invites in general (Came from a Lotus Domino environment). I have come across an oddity that I am almost sure is related to the content of the .ICS file generated by Outlook and then sent to a mail user who uses an Apple Max OS X 10.7.3. (our Managing Director). It has resulted in me (IT for the company) buying an Apple Mac to try and troubleshoot. Sorrry for the Blurb
    Working Scenario is
    1. Use a Google email account and the Web interface to send a meeting invite to another Google homed account and that person uses a Mac as described.
    2. Invite arrives and is automatically available in iCal with a tentative meeting (grey) event PLUS the notification panel in iCal showing an alert.
    3. The notification Panel alert can then be used to Accept/decline the invite.
For the MD this is how he wants to work. As he gets numerous invites he can quickly scan down the notification alerts and access/decline as he goes. Rather than opening all of the email messages.
    Failing Scenario is
    1. Use an Outlook 2010 client to send the exact same invite to the same person at the same time (etc.)
    2. Invite arrives in the Mac mail Box. BUT DOES NOT trigger iCal's notification panel
    3. The Mac User needs to click on the attached .ICS file and if iCal is also visible you can see the notification alert appear
I have TextEdited both .ICS files and yes they are different. The general VCALENDAR elements are roughly the same but there differences with bits and pieces that a too numerous to mention. There is also all of the garbage with X- elements which I would think iCal will ignore anyway. I have tried hacking the failing .ICS when it arrives but that doesn't mimic the same type of flow and in the end I can't modify the .ICS files either as they are sent or arrive.
Yes, I have told the Outlook client to send using the iCalendar format for external recipients.
I was wondering if anyone had come across the same type of requirement or the same type of issue?
    thanks in advance
    Bruce.

I had the identical problem.  I still don't know how to sync the tasks, but here's how I did the contacts and calendar:
    1.  Connect the 4s to the computer.
    2.  Open iTunes.
    3.  Click the iPhone box in the upper right corner.
    4.  Click on the info tab.
    5.  Hit the checkbox Sync Contacts with... and choose Outlook from the dropdown box.
    6.  Ditto for Calendars.
    7.  Hit Apply.
My problem was that originally, I wasn't getting the checkboxes.  I turned off the iCloud settings on the 4s.  That did the trick.

  • Calendar invites from Outlook(pc) come as .ics, can't be deleted & are 3 hrs earlier than the meeting time!

Please help!  This is so crazy complicated.  I believe the problem is either 1) a faulty phone, or 2) a bug in iOS5 for outlook calendar if you aren’t on an exchange server (please someone tell me iOS6 will fix it!).
I bought my nanny an iPhone.  She does not have a mac and she does not sync to a pc.  She just uses the phone.  She does not have an exchange server – she is just AT&T with an optimum online email account.  I use a pc and Outlook 2003 (yes, I know it’s old, waiting to buy a new laptop and upgrade at once).  I manage my children’s very busy schedule on this calendar and I invite my nanny and my husband to most appointments.  I am on an exchange server for this calendar (my personal).  I also use an iPhone and iPad and have servers hosting my email accounts.
When I invite my nanny to appointments on my outlook 2003 pc calendar she receives an .ics file instead of a nice looking appointment with the name of the appointment.  If I invite myself at work (also on a server, PC and on my iPad and iPhone) or my husband (uses an iPhone 4S), neither of us get .ics – we get a normal calendar meeting.  We can open and accept and delete, etc.  Since we are both on exchange servers (not the same ones) I think this must be the first problem – why she gets .ics and we don’t.  When she opens the meeting she can ONLY accept.  There are no options for Maybe or Decline.  When she accepts – get this – it adds the meeting THREE hours earlier than the actual time!  Yes, we’ve checked her time zone settings.  I have also restored the phone.  It doesn’t help.  She also can’t decline the meeting ever.  It’s stuck on her phone.  When I delete the meeting, it doesn’t delete from her account.  She now has a test that we added as a recurring appointment on Sunday morning that will be there forever!
THEN I tested a few other things.  I invited her NOT by sending the meeting directly from my outlook and PC but by opening the meeting once added on my iPhone and on my iPad and inviting her.  When I do that, they get added at the CORRECT time BUT she still has no option to decline and she can never delete these either.  When I delete from my PC, my iPhone and my iPad – they all stay on her iPhone.
NEXT… I tried sending her a meeting from my work PC which is the newest version – Outlook 2010.  Same thing, came in as .ics, no ability to decline BUT… the time added correctly!  This is from an exchange server.
I’ve read about other people having this issue but they have one appointment out there that they can’t delete.  This is 20 a week I’m sending her… and the time zone changing – that’s just crazy.  I haven’t found anyone with that issue.  Could we really be the only people out there that use a lot of meeting invitations – Outlook to iPhone and they don’t know it’s a bug?  Or do I have some funky setup on her phone?  If I add her to my server will that fix it?  Or does she just have a faulty phone?  Please help!

I posted this question a while ago and didn't receive any responses but there are a lot of people who have viewed it and 10 have said they have the same question so I thought I would update you that I added my nanny to my exchange server account (created an email for her) and I send all invites to that email address and they work.  So sending invites from an exchange server account to a non-exchange server account apparently is a bug so to solve it, get on an exchange server I guess.

  • Issues with calendar invites from Outlook address that come to my gmail on iPhone

I have been trying for HOURS to get to the bottom of this iPhone calendar invite problem I'm having. I'll try to summarize.
I LOVE iCal and I want to continue using it. Though I have a personal mid-2010 Macbook Pro, I don't use it too much (my company functions solely on Windows). I almost exclusively use my iPhone 4S for calendar purposes. Yes, my calendar is synced up to iCloud. I have a gmail account as my primary apple ID and my mail account on the iPhone is synced with gmail. I've been very annoyed lately as I have been receiving a lot of calendar invites from a friend who has Outlook, and I cannot accept or decline when I received her invite. The events are added to my calendar, grayed out.
After much research, I realized that I had to setup my gmail account as an Exchange account on my iPhone, which I did. I then sent myself a test invite from Lotus Notes, and low and behold, I can now accept and decline!
..but I am VERY particular about my calendar organization, and I want to be able to choose which calendar the event is added to; however, it is added to my exchange (gmail) calendar, I guess because it was received on the gmail server. I want my calendar invites to be received on my ios device calendar! I don't know if having people use my .me account would help, but I don't want to tell everyone to change the email address to which they send me notifications, because I want to continue to receive mail at my gmail account (like the many calendars, I have many folders there and have everything set up the way I want it).
I get emails concerning work, events, tennis matches, etc via my gmail account, and I want to sort them to the correct calendar when the invite comes to my gmail while STILL maintaining the functionality to accept and decline invites.
    Is this a crazy question?

I posted this question a while ago and didn't receive any responses but there are a lot of people who have viewed it and 10 have said they have the same question so I thought I would update you that I added my nanny to my exchange server account (created an email for her) and I send all invites to that email address and they work.  So sending invites from an exchange server account to a non-exchange server account apparently is a bug so to solve it, get on an exchange server I guess.

  • TS2776 Any ideas why my Outlook 2010 is syncing with iCloud for e-mail but not for contacts and calendars?  I am not a novice user and have done all the obvious things. The situation is odd because the original calendars all came from Outlook in the first

I use iMac, iPad and iPhone but also an HP laptop. I have used Macs since 1986 so I am not a novice. I set up my iCloud account, moving from MobileMe recently and everything works fine on my Apple devices. The bizarre thing is I can see all my e-mail accounts via iCloud in Outlook but the contacts and calendars are not syncing in Outlook even though the original calendar material came from Outlook (the contacts data is all from the iMac). I've tried all the obvious things and read most of the articles on the Apple Support website. All the relevant boxes are checked on the iCloud dashboard on each device but I just wondered if I was missing something obvious. I'm sure some of you will have had the same expereince and solved it. Can you help me?
    Thanks in anticipation!

  • I cannot get ics calendar invites from Outlook to display the correct time in iCal even though the correct time is in the description. This seems to be a common problem but I cannot find an answer. Please help.

  • Can't send email from Outlook with parentheses in address

I can't send email from Outlook 2007 through my WRT400N when Outlook displays the address with parentheses as in this example: Firstname Lastname ([email protected])
I can send if the address is in this form: Firstname Lastname <[email protected]>
I have tested with the ISP and nothing gets through the router when the problem occurs. When I bypass the router, both forms of address will send correctly. This problem is perfectly reproducible. My router is brand new, but the problem did not show up for about a week after installation. OS is Win7. Any ideas? Thanks.

  • I would like to find out how I can setup my Mac Air to allow me to have an email template open up in Outlook instead of Mail when I click on an email address on a website.

Can anyone help me with setting up my Mac Air, to allow me to have an email template open up in Outlook instead of Mail when I click on an email address on a website?

All the limits you mention 100 e-mails at a time and 500 in a four hour time frame are limitations imposed by your mail provider, not Thunderbird. Thunderbird places no restrictions on the maximum number of recipients.
Have you tried turning your computer off for a few minutes?

  • How do I upload my contacts, calendar and notes from outlook 2007 to my new iPad with retina display

I just cleaned up my outlook 2007 contact files.
I have an iPhone 5, a new iPad with retina display, and a PC, which is where the outlook program is.
I also have an iCloud account
How do I get the contacts, calendar and notes from outlook to any of these devices, so I can have one synced contact file on all three devices?
I'm sure I am not the first one asking about this but I am new to Apple, and loving it.

With your device connected and iTunes open, navigate to the 'info' tab and scroll down. You'll see the option to sync contacts and such from outlook.

  • Moving emails from outlook express to mail

is there a way to get all of my old emails from outlook express to mail? My old PC is about to die and then I'll loose all of my emails :s that is why I am wondering if there is a solution, now.

I don't know whether you can do this on a PC version of Outlook Express or not, but I know that you can do stuff like this with Apple's Mail, so it may be worth a shot to try this and see if it works.
First off, I am assuming that all this old mail is a POP account, and not IMAP. If it were IMAP, it would all be safe on your email account provider's IMAP server and all you would have to do is create the new account in Apple Mail and the first time you connected, it would autosync with the server and all your old mail would just be there. But if POP, all mail is downloaded to your computer then deleted from the server. So, assuming this to be a POP account, here is what I would try to do if I were you.
    1. Go to http://webmail.aol.com and sign up for a new free IMAP email account from AOL. You could get a free gmail account if you wanted, too, but I believe there is a bit of extra configuration involved in making it a IMAP and not POP. AOL is IMAP by default. Plus, AOL is a built-in new-account setup option in Apple Mail.
    2. On the PC in Outlook Express, add a new account for your new AOL email account. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883081 to find out all the particulars about account settings and how to do it in Outlook Express.
    3. On the Mac in Apple Mail, as stated in #1 above, AOL Mail is one of the options when creating a new account. Just follow Mail's "new account wizard" to create your AOL account there.
    4. On the Mac, create a second new account for your existing POP account. Mirror the individual mail folder layout that are on your old PC for the old POP account.
    5. This is the part that I don't know if PC Outlook Express will let you do, but I know that Apple Mail does:
    (a) Open each of your mail folders in the old POP account stored on your dying hard drive one at a time
    (b) Highlight/select all the messages in that folder
    (c) Drag them to the AOL inbox. In Apple Mail, they would be copied to the IMAP server, preserving all the original "From" and "Date Received" and other information like that.
    6. On the Mac, drag the messages that you uploaded into the AOL inbox and drop them into the appropriate folder of the "legacy" POP account that you created in #4. That will clear them out of the AOL inbox and they will now be stored on your computer as downloaded popmails.
    7. Go back to step #5 and repeat this process for each of your folders on the old PC until you have emptied all the messages off your old computer.
Now, I will have to issue a disclaimer that I have only done this myself from IMAP to IMAP and to/from IMAP from/to "On My Mac" folders, which keeps copies of messages locally but not on IMAP servers. So I have no reason to suspect that this would not apply equally to POP since it worked with "On My Mac" folders. And whether the PC's Outlook Express will support the POP-to-IMAP drag-and-drop is a total unknown to me.
I'm sure I'll hear back via this forum whether this worked or not, but it's the best idea that I can come up with, and like I said, a similar (but not identical) situation worked for me before.

  • Sending emails from outlook - suddenly not getting...

Hi everyone, I am new here but a btinternet customer for a good while. I have been quite happily sending emails from outlook to both other btinternet email addresses and a variety of non bt emails. all of a sudden on Thursday, they stopped being received by the recipient. The send/receive process seems to work (visually) and the logs and outbox show they have been sent - but nothing is received at the other end.
I have not touched any settings etc, so what could be the problem?
Looking to find out if there is anything I can do at my end or whether BT needs informing (though I cannot see who to contact).
    Yours in anticipation,

Is this still a problem ?
Was the problem to all of your recipients, or just one or two ?

  • How many of you use CTRL + Enter to send email from Outlook

It's a much faster option...and you don't have to grab that pesky mouse!

I was working this morning and I asked my fiance if she used CTRL + Enter to send email from Outlook and she was not even aware that was an option. I have been using it for years and I wondered how many of you SpiceHeads use it as well?

  • Calendar Invites from Outlook PC not syncing to iCloud calendar

I am using iCloud on my iPhone 5 and with Outlook on my PC.  When my husband sends me an appointment invitation from his Outlook (PC, no iCould), I receive an email via Outlook on my PC and click accept.  However, the appointment does not show up on my calendar.  When I accept from iPhone it works but takes a lot of click thrus.  Can anyone help me on this?

Guys, I did a bit of research with my other iPhone/Exchange - buddies and this is what we found out:
    1. Friend sends me an calendar event from his PC / Exchange Account
    2. Calendar event displays as tentative on both my iPhone and on my PC / Exchange Account
    3. I accept the calendar event on my PC / Exchange Account
    4. Calendar event turns to "busy" on my PC / Exchange Account
    5. Calendar event disappears from my iPhone
    6. I double-click the event on my PC / Exchange Account and click "Accept" again
    7. Calendar event reappears on my iPhone
Funny enough, this does not happen with all events - it seems to depend on the Exchange server and/or Outlook version in use. For those affected: Is your Exchange Server 2003 or 2007, and what version is the Exchange Server of the person who sent you the event in the first place?

  • Sending invites to Outlook

I am not sure if this is something I am doing wrong in iCal or an Outlook limitation? I attempt to send invites or calendar events to friends who have Outlook 2003 and they are unable to open them. I know I am sending .ics files - does anyone know if Outlook 2003 can handle them? What about Outlook 2007?
    Thanks,
    Rick

From what i've been able to research the following problems exist.
Outlook apparently requires the following line to be in the header to properly accept a calendar invite from apple iCal.
    content-class: urn:content-classes:calendarmessage
And mail doesn't let you adjust headers on a mail by mail basis.
As far as receiving invites, it's hit or miss. I found a very inexpensive sharware app that solves the problem. It's called YAI run a search for YAI and Mail and you'll find it. That seems to resolve the incoming invite issue.
I find it a bit disappointing that apple is trying so hard to work it's way into business environments... network admins are finally accepting macs and better than PCs... But fundamental things such as meetings and invites aren't compatible. Of course microsoft is ignoring standards and doing it's own thing. They're arrogant butt wipes. But so what? Apple is the underdog, and has to adapt. Calandars and meeting events are CRITICAL to an office enviornment.
If people have identified the problems, how hard is it for apple to include a line of text in a mail header? How hard is it for apple to do whatever this $4 shareware program does to allow event importing? It would take an Apple programmer 5 minutes to solve a critical business incompatibility issue for macs in an office workplace.
Not making such simple changes so their users will be compatible with 90% of the market, smacks of as much arrogance as Microsoft for ignoring the standards in the first place.
So there it is. YAI for importing events. (had to search for over an hour to locate it). And that mail header (although I don't know how to implement) for sending events.
    Good Luck everyone,
    -Jason W
