Calendar strangeness in Touch - an investigation

I noticed that I was getting duplicate calendar entries in my 8 GB Touch even though there weren't any in my iCal calendars. So I went investigating....
My touch is jailbroken, so I was able to use Fugu to make an SSH connection to it via WiFI. Then I dropped into /User/Library/Calendar, and used SCP to copy over Calendar.sqlitedb to my desktop (and I made a backup copy on the Touch). Then I opened the database with SQLite Database Browser from http://sqlitebrowser.sf.net. (warning, you can probably serious screw up your Touch and require a reset, or worse, if you mess up the database).
I noticed that in the Calendar table were listed a number of calendars that I had already deleted out of iCal. For some reason old inactive calendars don't seem to get deleted out of the Touch database even after syncing with iTunes. So I deleted them.
Next I went to the Event table and deleted a schwack of duplicate entries. I was careful not to delete any entries that were for repeating events, since their treatment is complicated in the database by entries in several other tables dealing with reoccurrence.
Finally I saved and closed the database and copied it back to the Touch. When I reopened my Calendar app, all of the duplicate entries were gone!

If you are syncing calendar events with a supported application on your computer, there should be a settings for this under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences.
In addition, on your iPhone go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Under Calendars, what do you have selected for Sync - all events, or Events 2 Weeks Back, etc.?

    After upgrading my iPhone 5 to iOS 8 (and just recently 8.0.2, which I hoped would fix it, but didn't), I'm seeing strange sync behaviour with Google contacts and calendar. Here is what is happening:
    Calendar
    Creating an event on the phone shows up on Google. However, I cannot edit it like I used to be able to.
    Creating an event on Google does not show up on the phone.
    Contacts
    Creating a contact on the phone does not show up on Google.
    Creating a contact on Google shows up on the phone. Editing this contact changes it on Google too.  (this seems really strange to me).
    This is driving me nuts! 

    I have similar behavior. Contact sync with google works fine, not calendar though.
    I connect to Google using Exchange protocol. Have worked excellent before, but after 8.0.2 (I suspect) calendar is only partly synchronized.
    Not all events gets synced from Google calendar.
    I used a workaround and connected to the calendar using CalDav, which is not nearly as good as exchange protocol

  • Help on syncing multiple calendars with iPod Touch 4g 64g

    In our university, we use iCal with Blackboard. Also, our main *email* is Entourage - pretty sure it's the most recent version for Mac. 
    How can we sync the Entourage calendar with iCal, and be sure that they are all merged and 2-way functional for the iPod touch and laptops (I know for multiple computers we'll have to set up home sharing - for now let's just focus on the calendar syncing). 
    I have instructions for syncing Entourage with iPod Touch, and it's been recommended to use Google to sync with iCal (thanks llllass) but we don't want to use Google or MobileMe to get to iCal.  iCal is already built into the iPod Touch, as I'm sure you know.
    Any advice on how to make this super simple?

    My first suggestion is to try Stanza, as it is a much more configurable ebook reader.  You can use the
    Calibre (ebook management/conversion utility) to transfer ebooks from your computer to your iPod Touch.

    Looking at iBooks on my iPod Touch, my font selection and font size are only present when I have an ebook open.  If I tap the center of a page, the top edge of the screen has
    Library | Table of Contents | Brightness | aA (font size, and font selection) | Search | Bookmark
    Where the aA icon brings up a control that has a small a and a large A.  If I tap on the large A, each tap increases the font size until it gets REALLY BIG.  Tapping on teh small a reduces the font size for each tap.
    Landscape lock.  OK for the iPod Touch as a whole, you put the iPod Touch in the orientation you desire, then you quick double-tap on the home button.  This will bring up a list of your running apps.  Now slide the list to the right, and you will see music controls as well as on the far left a screen lock button.  Tap the screen lock button to lock your iPod Touch in its current orientation.  Unlock it later when you want your iPod Touch to be able to rotae again.
    NOTE:  Stanza as an ebook reader, it has its own configuration control that locks Stanza into a specific orientation, independent of the iPod Touch orientation or the iPod Touch orientation lock.  Another reason I like Stanza.
    Wallpaper.  I think you can only change it to something else.  Settings -> Wallpaper, then tap on the screen you want to change.  Now select a different Wallpaper from either the Wallpaper selections, or anything in your Camera Roll, or your Photo Library.

  • Trouble syncing MS Outlook 2011 calendar with iPod touch

    I use MS Outlook 2011 on my iMac for email, contacts and calendar. The Outlook calendar is syncing fine with iCal, which I know it has to do first since the iPod & iCloud will not sync directly with Outlook (go figure, MS & Apple still haven't figured that **** out!) It seems like every since I updated to the latest version of iTunes and iOS 6.0.1 on my iPod touch, the calendar is no longer syncing properly? I've checked all the settings in iTunes and on my iPod itself and there doesn't seem to be any reason why its not syncing? Do I need to update the iOS to 6.0.2? Or is there some other little hidden setting I've missed?

    My OSX is 10.7.5 Lion. I just gave up and decided to go back to Mac mail, iCal and contacts. I'm guessing the issue has something to do with the way iCal handles sync data from Outlook? Or perhaps the other way around? I did 2-seperate tests where I created a calendar event in Outlook and iCal. On the Outlook test, it synced to iCal, but wouldn't get pushed to my iPod touch calendar? (running iOS 6.0.1)
    On the iCal test, it pushed the new event to my iPod within seconds! Also, when I created a calendar event directly on my iPod, that too would sync back to iCal within seconds as well. But not back to the Outlook calendar. It still amazes me that even today MS and Apple still have issues like this? I don't mind using Mac's programs, I just don't like how they have them all as 3-seperate running programs.
    I prefer Outlook's all-in-one interface. I think Apple's software engineers need to do a complete makeover!

  • Syncing an outlook exchange and a regular outlook calendar to IPod Touch

    I have a personal outlook calendar on my home machine and have had no problems syncing it with the IPod Touch.
    However, when  I added the outlook exchange calendar I have from work onto that outlook program  (office 2010) and tried to sync with the IPod Touch, it only transfers appointments from the office outlook exchange calendar.  Nothing from the regular personal outlook calendar shows up any more on the IPod Touch.  Any suggestions so I can get all the information from both calendars onto teh IPod Touch?  

    Assuming you have a PC ,you can only sync one calender at a time. From the Usrs Guide:

  • Syncing hosted exchange calendar to iPod Touch over USB won't update-

    Wanted to post some helpful advice for anyone that may experience this issue.
    If you use a hosted exchange service, and are stuck syncing your calendars and contacts to an ipod touch or iphone over USB, realize that iTunes will only sync the default calendars and contacts over USB, not shared folders. Itunes will give you the option to designate which calendar syncs, but the names in iTunes won't match what is named in outlook.
    Have a difficult client who suffers from a mixture of tech hoarding, non-linear thinking, unwillingness to change behavior, tech anxiety, and ego. So there has been a lot of money and time spent to get him tools that help organize his life, and allow me to schedule things for him. I have him on a hosted exchange account so that I can have access to his most up to date appointments and contacts when he travels internationally (He won't leave AOL because he can save emails directly as Word files). His Palm treo (which was only being used as a PDA) was beginning to fail, so I recommended an iPod touch as a temporary, low-cost PDA alternative. He travels internationally in 6-8 month chunks, since it didn't make sense to commit to a superphone. He did it under condition that it would sync over USB, since he is in areas without wifi very often. I checked it on my iphone (since I'm synced to his exchange account), and it worked. So I gave the go ahead.
    After some issues with changing out his computers while in Europe, he contacts me with issues that his calendar and contact options were not updating to the most recent information in outlook after syncing with USB. After a support call, I was told to restore the phone, so that everything was erased and would be reloaded with outlook info. After we did that, my client informed me that contacts were updating, but the calendar was missing, except for two events that I had accidently added to it from my iPhone. I called support, who took the issue to tier 2, and was outright told not to talk to me and referred me to my hosted exchange company. I mentioned that they would be unable to help me with why iTunes wasn't updating a calendar in Outlook. He apologized but said that Tier 2 wouldn't take the call, and because it was exchange they wouldn't help. This was with my client on the line in a skype conference, who became maddeningly upset, as he would need to find another PDA while in Europe. Since, my client has sworn off Apple, which I was beginning to lean him towards, due to it's robust OS and backup capabilities, as well as simplicity.
    But that's neither here nor there. I noticed that the two events that I had accidently added were on the default outlook calendar, named (oddly enough) "Calendar". Due to issues with me when I setup exchange when we first got it, I had to tell him to use a shared calendar called "Calendar-New" so that him and I could view and edit his appointments from different machines. I was connected to my clients computer over VNC, so I saw that under the info tab in iTunes, where I had checked "Sync with outlook" that there was a second option to sync only certain calendars, and three were listed, ""Calendar", "Calendar-", and "Calendar-1". I asked the tier 1 rep to check to see what these meant, I may be able to redirect iTunes to the right calendar. He was unwilling to, as Tier 2 had yelled at him.
    With that, we hung up, and, once I confirmed that his changes to Calendar could be seen on my end, and changes I made could be seen on his end, and that these events showed up on the ipod after he synced it, I realized that iTunes defaults to the default calendar in outlook. Yay!. I went ahead and dragged and dropped all of the events from Calendar-New to Calendar, and now the problem is fixed.
    I really wish someone at apple support would have been willing to at least walk through this with me, or at least looked into how the sync works, Ashley in tier 2, shame on you for hanging up on my tier 1 rep! You lost a customer who buys a brand new computer every year. Reminds me of this story

    I am an Solutions Engineer for a hosted exchange provider, and that is some good information.
    I have not tested this out, but i will. I do remember when i had my ipod touch, that it would sync perfectly over WiFi, but i do not know if i ever tested this by USB.
    You should also make sure your customer is on a hosted exchange service that uses Akami.

  • Cannot type in events on Calendar in iPod Touch (4th gen.)?

    When I try to type in events on Calendar in my iPod Touch (the 4th generation), the Internet refreshing icon appears (a samll spinning circle next to the Wi-Fi signal), and then the events will disappear on some certain but random days.
    No matter how hard I re-try, some certain days just would not show any events.

    I'm having the same issues. Music plays on my Macbook Pro just fine. However when I try to play music from my iPod no beuno. It skips through songs and ands on a random song, but no sounds is coming from the iPod.

  • Having issues with calendar on iPod touch

    I recently bought ipod Touch 4, but I am having problems with the calendar.  Many of the events that appear on my desktop don't appear on my ipod Touch. When I input an event directly on the ipod touch, within a few seconds it disappears.  I've tried numerous times to input the information, but it somehow keeps disappearing.  Does anyone have any suggestion what to do, because I'm unable to input certain important dates.

    I finally got my personnal vendor on the french apple store. She sent me to the ipod team : it is possible to edit event within the ipod touch, even in its french version. So I bought it one and it's great !
    Hope to see more apps on it as it is a shame to build such a great engine with so few apps in it : what about the sustainable developement ?

    I've run the sample and it works fine.
    Perhaps it's not a bug but it's very strange the behaviour ens has with events with special characters. This is what I do step by step:
    1. I subscribe for all events and all the users
    2. I create and appointment with special characters
    3. I receive the event notification
    GAP/1.0 1b 3 1915 enp:///ics/caleventcreate?calid=[email protected]&uid=000000000000000000000000000000000b2c934cc04e0000140000001f130000&rid=0|ntfy|00000000
    The number 1915 should be the message length so I try to read 1915 bytes. However I can only read 1903 bytes. In this 1903 I have the full xml with the vcalendar.
    4. I create a second appointment
    5. The message I received is something like "\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0" which is 1915-1903
    6. I have to discard this message because it's invalid
    7. I receive the event notification
    I can fix my custom client and discard this "\0\0\0..." messages but It's a strange behaviour. Perhaps the protocol is as is but I thought it was a bug.

  • I Need a Search Tool for the Calendar on iPod touch 2G

    I am trying to replace my old Tungsten E2 Palm Pilot with my iPod touch 2G -- I have my calendar and Mobile-Me set up and synced.
    The one main thing that I need is a search function for the calendar on my iPod touch 2G. That would turn the touch into a serious business tool - instead of a game/music toy.
    iCal has a great search function on my Macs - I want to be able to do that on the road with the touch.
    I want to be able to see the date that something happened - or when I was someplace - by searching for a name on the touch calendar. Ideally, it would work like the search function on iCal.
    Is there a way - or an APP- that will do that???

    I asked the Apple Store here in Toronto regarding the Search or Spotlight function on the iPod Touch, which is non-existent. This feature is SO useful specially when I need to look for a past or future appointment(s) or email, or info from the Address Book. Why is this feature not included in the iPod Touch software as a basic function? I used to own a Palm PDA and even at its basic version, it had a Search function. I can easily look for names, events, memos, etc. Before iPod Touch came, I hoped that a gadget such as the Palm would be available from Apple and when the iPod Touch came out, I was SOOOO glad it surpassed the features of a Palm but hoped it had the Search of Spotlight feature that is so useful on the iMac. Can you please include on your next iPod touch Software upgrade this Search or Spotlight feature?

  • Issue syncing Outlook calendar to iPod Touch

    Hi there - I have just synced my iPod Touch with my Outlook calendar using iTunes for the first time since the clocks went back at the weekend. All my single appointments are fine, but all of my recurring ones (of which I have many) are now showing as an hour earlier on my iPod Touch (for example, if an appointment is 8.30-9.30am in Outlook then it is appearing on my iPod as 7.30-8.30am).
    On my computer, the Time Zone setting is "(UTC) Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London" with a tick for "adjust for daylight saving time".
    On my iPod Touch, in the Date & Time settings (found in Settings>General>Date & Time) I have the Time Zone set to "London" and in Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars, I have the Time Zone Support set to "on" with the Time Zone showing as "London" also.
    I've tried changing some of these options (e.g. turning Time Zone Support off, setting the iPod time zone to UTC rather than London, unticking the "adjust for daylight saving time" box in Windows) and then re-synching - but none of this has worked.
    I've tried searching on several forums, but no-one seems to have a solution except for making sure that all the Time Zone settings are the same - which I think they are.
    Please can anyone help?!!

    I recently had a similar experience with my iPhone 3GS and Outlook calendar. The calendars suddenly quit syncing although Contacts and Notes continued to sync normally.
    After unsuccessfully trying all of Apple's suggested fixes ("Troubleshooting the iPhone and iPod touch contact and calendar syncing via USB on Windows"), I discovered that inadvertently multiple calendars had been set up in Outlook. I removed the superfluous calendars and they began to sync perfectly fine once again.
    In my case, I don't think was related in any way to iTunes updates, but rather user error. Now, I have two calendars in Outlook and two on the iPhone and my world seems to be 'in sync' once again.

    You should have been syncing your contacts and calendars with your computer from the beginning, so all of your contacts and calendars should be on your computer.  Are they not?
    If they are, as they should be, then sync your ipad to your computer.

  • Managing iCal calendars on iPod touch

    I know there have been plenty of topics in this discussion started by folks trying to get the color codes on their iPod touch and iPhone calendars to match what they see in iCal and MobileMe. I've battled this issue pretty much ever since I bought my first-generation iPod touch as a replacement for my Palm Tungsten E PDA. I don't want to start another one of those fruitless discussions.
    I'm pretty much hard-coded when it comes to the colors I associate with my calendars on desktop and laptop (red=national holidays, blue=household events, green=office events, purple=school events, etc.), and seeing different colors on the events on my iPod makes the Calendar app confusing, distracting and hard to use. I've realized I'd almost rather not check my schedule on my iPod, because I can't scan events the way I'm used to. As a replacement for my Palm PDA, in other words, I'm afraid my iPod's a failure.
    Unless, that is, someone knows of a way to turn the colors off in the Calendar app or, more likely, can recommend a better third-party solution in the App Store.
    My first-generation touch is already feeling outstripped by recent hardware updates, and I'm coming to realize I'll be looking for a replacement before much longer. If I can't figure out a good way to make an iPod touch sync with my calendars, my next handheld is going to be something other than an iPod.

    First I'd like to clarify some nomenclature. I switched from using Now Up-to-Date and Now Contact to iCal and Address Book. In Now Up-to-Date, there was only one Calendar, although you could have miltiple Calendar files with different names. Within a Calendar, you could have many categories of calendar entries which could be customized as to type style (Regular, Bold, Italic, etc. and Color). I had used it for over ten years and during that time had moved several times and lived overseas in two countries. Thus I had on category for Spanish Holidays, another for Portugues Holidays and many others, with a total of about 12 categories.
    When I shifted to iCal, I archived all old calendar entries but my new iCal Calendar ended up with 12 sub calendars. I have culled/combined them to the following list: Club Events, Holidays and Birthdays, El Paso events, Medical-Dental, On-Screen Reminders, Special Days, KId's Events, Work, Theater & Entertainment, Travel plus subscriptions to Birthdays (direct from Address Book), Holidays in Spain, and Holidays in Portugal.
    That is the description of my iCal Calendar as seen on my Mac Pro and MacBook Pro, automatically synched through Mobile.Me.
    On my iPodTouch, I see at the top, All Calendars, then From My Mac, below which is one subcalendar entitled All from My Mac, and below that is [email protected] (MobileMe), followed by all of the subcalendars I have described above.
    I would like to get rid of the From My Mac entry so that All Calendars and MobileMe are one and the same. After reading other threads, I have decided the only way to do so is to talk to a MobileMe expert.

  • How to delete duplicate calendars on iPod touch?

    Hi, I have duplicate calendars that show up in iTunes in the iPod sync prefs and on my iPod touch but that don't show up in iCal. Since they get all transferred to the iPod I have a huge amount of duplicate entries as I cannot deselect just one of them.
    How would I go about deleting those entries from the iPod and/or the iPod sync preferences?

    I have the same issue on my iPod Touch, but with only a handful of birthdays (not all birthday entries). I've tried removing the birthdays from the contact entries and then putting them back in, but that only removed 1 copy temporarily. When I put the birthday back into the contact entry and sync it shows only 1 date entry, but then after syncing again it goes back to 2 duplicate date entries.
