Calibrating image resolution in CS5-CS6

I am teaching a class to create a courtroom display.  I have a ppt from the FBI Lab that told me to take two fingerprints, calibrate the image resolution and find a common denominator before i can proceed.  I am new to Photoshop and am not sure where i calibrate image resolution or how.

Thank you for responding. Someone from Foray contacted me and explained what to do. They want the image size of two photographs to be as close as possible to the same. If there is disparity, I am to find a number in pixels that is somewhere between the high and low of the two photos…a common denominator. When the photos are resized to that resolution they should fit on top of each other almost identically.

  • Export to PDF loses image resolution in CS5

I am creating some artwork in Photoshop CS5 at 72dpi. the work is crystal clear.
I then place the file as a jpeg or as photoshop file and again in InDesign the image looks great.
If I then export to PDF the artwork goes very fuzzy in Adobe Reader.
At the file type I am selecting - PDF (Interactive) rather than (print) and the following options are selected below.
I have tried changing the values but may not have reached the right combination.
The main reason I am confused is that when using illustrator my vector artwork never loses quality in PDF format....
Can a PDF be created without image quality loss???
    Many thanks
    Max

It won't arise for you now that you've set the Reader to be viewed at 72 ppi.
But if you send that to me it will look very blurry as I have mine set to 110ppi.
You could have saved the images as 96 ppi and it would have looked perfect in Acrobat.
But the whole point is that will look different depending on who's viewing it and what their setting is.
You personally shouldn't have a problem anymore using 72 ppi images, there is no need to save higher res images for yourself. But keep in mind that if you are sending this to someone else their Reader will be set to most likely 96 ppi. So perhaps you should consider using 96 ppi images or 150 ppi images in future.

  • CS6 placeditem.trace image resolution

    Hi,
We have recently upgraded to CS6 from CS4. We have been using "PluginItem.tracing.imageResolution" property to get the image resolution in Ilustrator. Currently this property is not available in the CS6 DOM.
Could any one guide me on how to use image trace to get the resolution of the image? Or is there any other method to get the resolution of the placed image in CS6 using javascript?
    Thanks,
    Parivalavan, M

    Hi moluapple,
Thanks for the reply. I have gone through the method successfully already. Thanks for the info. My doubt is why CS6 does not have this method while CS4 has? Sorry if I have asked that is too obvious.
    Thanks for your valuable time.

  • After CS6beta install, how to I tell CS5 bridge to open images in Photoshop CS5?

I am not ready to do all of my work in CS6 now, I am just trying to learn the interface.  But now I cannot opening anything through bridge or windows explorer using Photoshop CS5 at all.  The only way that I can open any image file in CS5 is to do it directly from Photoshop in the file open menu.  How can I set Bridge CS5 to at least have Photoshop CS5 as an option, if not the default?

Open Photoshop CS5, and launch Bridge from there (Ctrl Alt o) That will open Bridge CS5, and load images into Photoshop CS5.

  • Image Resolution issues?

Shot RAW images with Nikon D300; opened images in camera RAW (they are all 300 DPI); opened all images in Photoshop CS5 and the image size for all is 300 DPI saved as jpegs; I sent the images to a friend; when she opens in them in Photoshop CS6 they are 240 DPI - any assistance is greatly appreciated!

That's easy to change.  Camera Raw gives you full control.
Try this:  Get the Camera Raw dialog open (e.g., open one your D300 images), then click this link at the bottom-center of the dialog:
That will provide you the ability to change the ppi setting that the images open at:

  • Setting image resolution default to pixels/cm?

    Hi all,
A small question:  is there a way to set PS CS5's default for image resolution to pxels/cm?
In Preferences (with no file open), I've set rulers to mms, and whatever I can I've changed from pixels/inch to pixels/cm.  But when I open an image, and go into Image/Image Size, the dimensions show up in mms but the resolution is still always shown as pixels/inch.  Yeah, it's just a single step to drop the option down and change to pixels/cm, but I've got a few hundred images to edit (and manually - they're all in different locations!)  And it is just easier for what I'm doing to work in cms - it's a consistent 68 pixels/cm, which is easier to set than 172.72 pixels/inch.
Any way to make PS CS5 default to pixels/cm, please?  Thanks for any help.

Try setting to cm's instead of mm's in the preferences under ruler units.
One thing, if you change the ruler units on the rulers themselves, then
you might get a different unit in the image size dialog.

  • Image resolution in Camera Raw

    Hello.
How can I permanentely change the default image resolution from 240 ppi to 300 ppi in the Camera Raw 6.0 window (in CS5)? Every time I open a new raw it switches back to 240.
    Thank you.

In my experience that setting should stick.
Have you repaired permissions and performed other system maintenance recently?

  • Projected image resolution

When projecting a screen image of a PP CS6 image via a projector, the image resolution on the screen is very low. The audience can not read the details shown on the projected image.  The laptop is set to maximum resolution already. The OS I use is Windows 7 Home Premium on a Toshiba 64 k. Is there any Windows setting to increas projected image resolution? Thanks for the help.

What's your movie's resolution and frame rate, interlaced or progressive? Premiere will create and export or render to almost any video format if you ahve the codecs.
Let's say your movie is full HD, uncompressed, 1920x1080P. This is unlikely since hard drives and CPUs can choke on uncomrpessed codecs. So your movie was probably transcoded to a more friendly codec. I know nothing about Windows media but on a Macintosh we'd probably use H.264. If it's still in full HD dimensions, your installed video card is simply not capable of playing it back at full resolution. The movie is being scaled down, pixels are being squished and thrown away, to fit on your card's maximum screen size. As your 1080 movie, reduced about 30% to 740 to 760, comes into your upscaler, it's being blown back out to 1080. But the information has been lost. All your upscaler can possible do is make the blobby parts bigger; it cannot replace the pixels that have been lost.
Build your movie in a 720 format. Make sure all of your graphics are clearly legible on your editing screen by looking at it from a distance that simulates the screen's environment. Or, better, hook up the projector to your editor to preview the results.
Or use a device that is capable of playing full 1080 HD.

  • Image Resolution in Crystal Report

I am facing problem in image resolution when resizing big picture in crystal report.
    Please help.

    Thanks for your reply
The issue is the pictures (e.g. employee photos) are saved in Database as BLOB data type.
The report is loading employee photo into the report (e.g. employee card), but the loaded picture is coming up with much less quality than the original.

  • How do I save image and text as a single image in InDesign CS5.0?

How do I save an image and text as one image in InDesign CS5.0? NOT 5.5.
I need to save the image as a 72-dpi, jpg file for ePub purposes. I designed a book and am handing it off to someone for ePub.
    This is what I've tried:
    1) Copied from InDesign, pasted into a PhotoShop doc as a Smart Object. Saved it as 72 dpi jpg, then imported back into ID.
    2) Took a screenshot of ID page, placed it in PS, saved as 72 dpi, imported into ID
    3) Saved page as a PDF from InDesign, then saved PDF as 72 dpi jpg, then imported into ID.
    4) Save page as a PDF from InDesign, placed into Photoshop and saved
as 72 dpi, then imported into ID.
    5) Saved as an EPS from InDesign, placed in PS, then imported back to ID.
In all cases, the type looks terrible. It doesn't seem to matter whether I copy or place into Photoshop, though placing is slightly better.
    HELP!!!

In all cases, the type looks terrible. It doesn't seem to matter whether I copy or place into Photoshop, though placing is slightly better.
Naturally what you did will result in rasterized text. Did you preview with high quality settings?
Are you sure the people who will handle that downstream need pixel images and do you have the exact pixel dimensions needed?
Why did you place the image back in Indesign, by the way?

  • How do I change the image resolution of a photo?

    Hi..,
I am the beginner in Photoshop.
I want to change one image resolution from 72 dpi to 300 dpi.
So, I search and got one pdf for change the resolution of the image. In that they mention, take the "Printscreen" of the image and paste in the photoshop and change the mode(Index - flatten) and change resolution via the "Image -> image size -> Resolution".
Like that i did, it changed correctly.
After that I Open one already saved image file in Photoshop and do that same steps but the resolution was not changed.
So, now how to change that saved image resolution to 300 dpi...??
    Regards.,
    VISWA

    Viswa,
To find the current resolution of your image, follow these steps:
With your image open in Photoshop, Image > Image Size (Like you've already done earlier).
Check the resolution as shown above. If it doesn't show 300, enter 300, hit OK and 'Save' your image.
Open the file and check again. If it still shows 72, post back with more details of the type of file you're trying to open in Photoshop and if possible, a screenshot so we can help.
