Calibrating the MBP display

Is there a way to calibrate the display for the MBP 17"?

look under system preferences -> displays -> color
i recommend using an external device like i1 display 2 for accurate results, since your eyes are really not that reliable.

  • Calibrating the 20" Display

I have been trying to calibrate my 20" display forever. My art director works on a CRT monitor. My monitor is much more saturated and bright. I can't see the same amount of detail in the white space. (I can't see 2% megenta in the white, but she can). I have been using the Spider 2. It would be great is someone could tell me how exactly to set my monitor settings and the Spider 2 settings. Is is really possible to calibrate these monitors?
I am working on OS X 10.3.9 do I need to upgrade?

  • What kind of LCD screen is the MBP display?

I have a 2007 Santa Rosa Macbook Pro. I'm curious what kind of LCD screen the display is. I know TN is the worst, and something like ISPS is better...

The screens in the MBP are provided by one of three manufacturers: Samsung, LG, and Chimei. Although there is a host of debate about which is the best between Samsung and LG, everyone agrees that Chimei screens are the worst.
The Samsung panels tend to be more "vivid" compared to the LG screens (although you'll only notice this difference if you compare the two side by side.) The LG screens tend to be less susceptible to "yellowing." If you get a good, defect-free Samsung panel you hit the jackpot. It's the best of the three.
To find out which one you have, go to System Preferences > Displays > Color > Open Color Profile and scroll down to line 13. Post the code next to "Manufacturer Code." (It should be something like 0000009c68.) Bring it back here and someone will be able to tell you what screen you have.
Of course, unrelated to the screen, the Santa Rosa MacBook Pro was the first to introduce LED backlighting.

  • Doh, mentioned this on yesterday's post but now it seems the mbp display is

    getting worst and worst
first under a black background my screen look like a nice eveing with bunch of shinning stars (stuck pixels) lighting up the sky and then under different color backgrounds minutes ago just noticed 2 dead pixels one light blackish and one whiteish (the later one will probably need a closer look that the former one)
gonna bring it to the Apple store in the morning but i am scared that genius bar tech might eat me alive and refuse to recognize my problem

and when i run the lcd gradient test i wonder how can i tell if my mbp display pass the gradien test or not?

  • Possible to use the MBP display for use with XBOX 360 through DVI port?

Hi everyone, I know that the topic sounds ludicrous to probably a lot of you. After all, how dare a Mac user use a Microsoft machine right ;)? Well, truth be told, I like the 360 and that's the only MS product I prefer to use.
Anyway, I'm going to be picking up my own 360 within the next few days and am currently deciding whether to also buy a new HDTV with the purchase or if I can wait. I'm going to be buying a new TV eventually but I was hoping to put off the purchase for a while since I remembered that the 360 can hook up to monitors through VGA. So what I want to know is whether the DVI port on my MBP is output only or will it accept input signals? Also, if it is possible to hook up my 360 through the DVI port, is there an easy way to attach the DVI-VGA adapter to the 360 seeing? By this I mean, the adapter is only about three inches or so and it would be pretty difficult to attach both machines to each other, so I was wondering if there might be a female-female VGA adapter bridge or some easy method of doing this.
Thank you all for your help in advance.

    Outsider,
Check out this link and enjoy the 360 on your MBP!

  • Brightness of MBP display vs. 23" ACD

I was under the impression that these two should have similar brightness. However, my 23" ACD is much brighter. Is this normal or do I accidentally have some settings tweaked on my MBP. I just got it and have made sure that the display is turned on all the way (using f2). Any suggestions?
    Frankie

When calibrating my MBP display with ColorEyes and a Spyder2 I only get 157 cd/m2 while my 23" ACD will top 300 cd/m2.
Furthermore, the MBP has very low saturation, little contrast and a strong green color cast. Compared to the ACD this is very obvious.
I have tried about everything possible to match both display, but to no avail. The culprit seems to be the factory colour profile "Color LCD-42715C0.icc" which can be found in "Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays". No matter what I do to it, even deleting it won't change anything. It will be recreated next time I start my MacBook Pro.

  • I am trying to connect mbp to tv using mini display port and HDMI cable TVtuned tocorrect port as shows Mac wallpaper (purple star scene) but does not show what is on MBP.  What can I try so that I can see mbp display on TV?

What do I needto do to connect a tv as an external display for my mbp using a mini display port to hdmi cable.  I have tried display without success.  tv is receiving a signal as displays apples default wallpaper when connected but nothing from screen of mbp.

Soundls like it is working. Try dragging a window on the MBP to the edge of the screen and see if it appears on the TV.
There are two ways to set up the TV one is to mirror the MBP display and the other is to be an extension of the MBP's screen.
You change the settings in System Preference->Display

  • Using a Second Display while MBP display is in Fullscreen use

I recently began using a second display consistently (something I only did sparingly in the past), and I was hoping to find out how to utilize my second display while running a fullscreen application on the MBP display (when in fullscreen, the second display is taken into fullscreen, but only with a solid black), and continue using everything else normally if situated on the second display.

Did you have a specific app or application in mind?

  • Using Dual Display. Turn Off MBP Display?

I have no interest in using Clamshell Mode. Is there a way to disable the MBP display while connected to a second monitor with lid open?

To my knowledge, through countless searches, there is no built in way to turn the MBP screen off without closing the lid and sending the system into clamshell mode.
But there may be a third party solution. a Google search and or a search of these forums should turn it up.

  • MBP Display, is it HD?

Hi i was wondering if the MBP display is HD?

1080P= a resolution of 1920x1080 (so called full HD)
    720P= a resolution of 1280×720
If your display can drive those, then yes it's HD. In my 17"'s case, it's a 16:10 rather than 16:9 screen, so there will be a slight black band at the top and bottom for the extra pixels.

  • Switching between the MBP and ACD

    Hi guys!
I have just recently got both these products from Apple, and it has been confusing adapting to the Apple world. Nevertheless, it is all worth it for the long run
I figured out how to use the ACD without having the MBP display on. But, am not able to figure out how the reverse would happen. That is, once the MBP screen is dead and the lid is open or closed - and the ACD display is the only one and main display, how do I get back to the MBP display - without having to go into the system preferences and select Display monitors option - or any other manual work.
Of course the other could also be to just unplug the ACD plug from the MBP - but this is insane to keep doing it, if I prefer switching very often.
Any helpful suggestions would be really welcome.
If there was a power button on the ACD - wouldn't that have been great? I don't understand the point of having a monitor completely controlled through the laptop itself without any physical buttons.
What if I want to keep some processing going on for the night, but want to switch the display of the ACD? That would not be possible as well, right?
I am starting to see limitations in the system, unless I am bling and cannot see the logic behind such a design!
    Help!
    Regards,
    Raj!

Hi Raji, I don't think there is a way to do it without going into System Preferences. Usually, I'll have my MBP hooked up to the cinema display and when I need to use the macbook screen only, I'll open the the lid and then unplug the display. When it's time to use the display again, I'll close my macbook lid and it'll go into sleep mode. Then I'll plug the display back into the macbook and wake the computer with the bluetooth keyboard.
I guess it could kind of be annoying doing it this way if you do it often but it's not too bad I think

  • Current software compatibility for the MBP's?

I dug around thru the site, but can't quite tell what atypical software can run on the Pro. Can Rhino or any other modeling programs that traditionally run on PC's work with the Intel core?
Any insight would be appreciated before I release 3+ grand back into the Apple.
    best, carne

When you receive your MBP, it will be loaded with the Macintosh Operating System. If you would like to ALSO add to it Windows, you will need to download and install BootCamp which will provide the following:
    * Assist the user in repartitioning their hardrive from its default configuration which only has ONE partition (For Mac OS) to TWO partitions (One for MAC, one for Windows)
    * It also provides the user with the required Windows Drivers to properly support the MBP (display drivers, sound drivers, etc). Without these drivers you will not be able to take advantage of the features of your MBP under Windows.
    * Once you have used BootCamp and installed Windows, you will have the choice during bootup to boot EITHER into Windows, or into MacOSX.
    * BootCamp is currently a separate download, but I have come to understand that it will be integrated as part of the next major release of OSX. Currently it is considered a Beta offering.
Lastly, Parallels allows you to run Windows ONTOP of MacOSX - meaning that your Windows XP (and programs) will run INSIDE a Window (or fullscreen if you prefer) at the same time you are running MacOSX. Therefore, MacOSX is the host operating system, and Windows becomes the client operating system and the CPUs will be running both simultaneously.
    The order is this:
    *Boot Into OSX
    *Load Parallels
*Boot Windows Inside a Parallel Virtual Machine Window.
You'll be able to move your mouse between programs running directly under OSX, and your Windows Virtual Machine (unless you are in fullscreen mode). These are features of Parallels, and should not be confused with BootCamp.
I recommend you download and read the release notes for both BootCamp and Parallels so you can get a better idea of how they work.
If you are only interested in running Windows and Windows Applications, the MBP may not be the best choice for you.
If you are interested in exploring (as an artist) the advantages of the Mac, while continuing to have compatibility with your existing software, than perhaps the Mac IS a good choice for you.
    Good luck,
    Golan.

  • MBP display dims slightly off while reading article....???

    Hi all,
I have done a lot of research in this discussion, but couldn't find the resolution. The MBP display always dims slightly off while not in use for 1 minute. If I check off the setting in the Energy Saver/Option/"Automatically reduce the brightness.....", then display dims off completely (dark...)!! It's very annoying since ever time when I read an article without moving mouse for 1 minute, then the display dims off slightly. I have to keep moving the mouse so it doesn't dim off.
Does anyone have the same issue? Does anyone find any resolution?? I talked to the Genius guy and they said they don't know what to do about it....
    Thanks in advance.

Okay okay, I see what you're saying... I thought you were saying it goes off and doesn't come back on or something.
Anyways, this is normal behavior but it can be prevented. Go to energy saver preference panel. For both battery and adaptor, slide the "put displays to sleep after" slider all the way to the right, which is never. Make sure also under the options tab, that you uncheck the "reduce brightness..." box.

Actually my roommate has a MBP too... he has the same problem.... only takes 1 minute for the display to dim off (not completely, only dim off the brightness...) but he said it doesn't bother him. For me it is really annoying...

  • Taking Apart the MBP Screen?

I would like to check and insure that the camera cable in my MBP's screen is secure. It is non-functional and may be the source of a sleeping problem for my laptop.
All I want to do is look, and if there is some kind of simple, basic disconnection, plug it back in.
Has anyone done this, or know how to get the MBP display module apart?

Nevermind, I see here that taking apart the screen requires taking apart the main computer module as well.
