Sounds like the digitizer is wearing out.  If the drift is too much to bear, repairs can be found at several websites including usedpdaparts.com and directfix.com.
Did you test the screen immediately after doing the Hard Reset, or did you HotSync all the data back to it and then test it?

  • Need iMac G5 (iSight) monitor calibration help (RGB Channels?)

I understand the need to calibrate my display so that the final print matches what I see on my display. I plan to use the Gretag Macbeth Eye One Display calibrator, which I have already used on my last CRT monitor, with good results. I needed to adjust the Brightness, Contrast and RGB Channels individually to get the profile on the CRT monitor. I cannot seem to find these same controls in the iMac G5. Am I just blind...or do they not exist in this computer? Please help! Thank you, Regina
    iMac G5 iSight   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

You do not have individual channel calculation on an LCD at least not with the G-M software (apple's built-in calbrator does a software calibration for individual channels, but you'll still be closer with the Eye-One Match results). Brightness you can set with the slider in display or by using the keyboard controls. Contrast is in universal access, but you should just leave it alone. The default setting is the correct one for beginning a G-M calculation.
EDIT Are you aware that there was an update to the G-M software a couple of weeks ago? You can download it from their website.

  • HP 23xi IPS monitor calibration help

    Hi All,
So I have a HP 23xi 23" monitor i've been using for less than a year. Suddenly today my hyperlinks became very hard to discern from dark blue and seems almost black as if it's just regular text.  I have not had this problem until today when I was reading a Wiki page and some of the links seemed to turn black. They are hyperlink and are the links that I have already clicked on so it should turn from light blue to the dark blue but it now seems as if it's closer to black. How do I change this back to normal again and what the heck caused this?
I connected my computer to my old monitor and on that the colors seem fine as I can discern the blue, dark blue and black fonts but back on the HP the dark blue is like a black.  I also installed the calibration tool from the CD but I can't find anything on there to help adjust it so that the dark blue is different from the black.
This monitor was working fine until today. Nothing new done to the computer today except 1 windows definition update. Could that have caused this problem?  I have updated the driver for the monitor as well to the latest 2013 Jan version.
HP 23xi with my comp running windows 7 64bit.
    Thanks in advance.

Best way to calibrate any monitor is with a calibration tool from places like X-Rite or Datacolor. There are others if I recall correctly.

  • Help - Tungsten E - BellTime / Alarms S/W & Device Sound

    Hi there,
    I have a question.
I downloaded the Lite version of 'BellTime' and noticed that there were too few slots for the amount of alarms that I want to use.
Also, I noticed that when I tested out one or more of the alarms, there was no sound coming out of my Tungsten E Palm Pilot? Is this sound problem related to BellTime or to some other software component missing from my device?
    Best Regards,
    jrn81

Does your device still make sounds when other programs are used?  If so, then the problem is most likely with "BellTime"...

  • Macbook Air Calibration Help (LSN133BT01A02)

I am new to the whole Calibration thing. I researched and found that allot of Macbook Air screens have a yellowish tint.
    My screen: LSN133BT01A02
The colors don't really pop out that much and appear "washed out".
I have never calibrated in my life. I just recently started noicing the colors lacking when the guy sitting next to me showed me his macbook pro retina.
I mean, the comparison is way off but the depth of color was still lacking even compared to my macbook pro hi res.
I read people fixed this isssue. And I think my screen is a Samsung.
I like it allot. I am very new to Apple. Longtime PC user. Any help would be great.
I also used google. Mostly old Summer threads with LG screens not much info on mine.

From the menu bar, select  ▹ System Preferences ▹ Displays ▹ Color ▹ Calibrate.

  • Macbook Pro 13" Screen Model 9CAO Calibration help?

This is the screen that I have on my new Macbook Pro. Would anyone out there have a screen profile calibration for this screen model that I could add to my screen (display) profiles. I have tried to do simple calibrations on my own but unfortunately I don't have great eyes and the results have been very average. I have tried a few profiles meant for other screen model #s, but I think these screens vary quite a lot.

  • T/X touchscreen calibration help

I am frustrated with my touchscreen because it won't calibrate no matter how many times I do it.  The alignment is off by different amounts depending on which side of the screen I'm touching.  It's especially irritating entering info in the daily agenda and selecting drop down menus, etc.  It's fine if I'm in the Graffiti area but I can see how much it's off if I test it out in the notepad function.
Anyone know of any other way to calibrate it other than the installed function in preferences?  I hope this is fixable because I really want the Treo 755p and I don't want this issue to happen to the phone too.
    Thanx!

Thanks Stevemark.  The calibration software did work.  But I still have limited writing space in the graffiti squares.  Only the lower right quarter works.  Everywhere else it skips and I end up with periods or a period and a wrong letter.  Also the capitals area is very limited and I often have to retry 4-5x before I get the right letter.  Any suggestions?

  • I Need Color Calibration Help

I noticed after i got my new imac intel core 2 duo the way the calibration is set makes the color look much better, does anyone know what the calibration settings are for the imac profile or know of a place i can download the profile
ps the new imacs fly i love it its beutifal

If you are trying to use your iMac profile with your MacBook, that is probably a bad idea. The whole point of a monitor profile is to record the characteristics of specific hardware. Your iMac profile describes the behavior of your iMac LCD. It doesn't describe the behavior of your MacBook LCD. If you were to use the same profile or setting on your MacBook, chances are it wouldn't represent colors properly because it would be making compensations based on an LCD type that is not in the MacBook.
Profiles are made to calibrate a monitor to a known standard. What's probably going on is that the iMac monitor is simply a better monitor, and simply hits the standard profile target more accurately and with more colors than the MacBook LCD can. I have a hardware monitor calibrator and have seen this between my PowerBook and desktop monitors. Using the calibrator on both monitors, the PowerBook LCD has never been able to match the color range of the desktop monitor.
Laptop monitors have to operate under weight, size, and power constraints that desktop monitors aren't limited by, so they can't perform as well. On top of that, you bought an inexpensive laptop, so the LCD isn't top-of-the-line. The iMac, on the other hand, may be using a panel similar to the Cinema Displays. I think what you're seeing is the lower performance of the laptop panel itself.
The best you are going to be able to do is use hardware calibrator on your MacBook LCD to generate a profile specifically for it. You will probably be able to generate a better profile than the one that came in the box, but it probably will still fall short of the color quality of the iMac screen.

  • Can't install calibre on windows 8.1

I just bought a new laptop with windows 8.1 inbuilt. I'm having issues installing Calibre on it. After the download, when i proceed to set up a pop up window shows up and the message "This installation package could not be opened. Contact application
vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package."
Please help. I can't put books on my kindle :(

    Hi KrittikaRaheja,
This issue could be caused by corrupted installation program or inappropriate file extension. Please ensure you download this program with right version from Calibre website.
Since Calibre is not hosted by Microsoft. I’d suggest you posting your issue to Calibre Help FAQ. There you can get more effective suggestion by other experts who familiar with this program. Your understanding is highly appreciated.

  • Color space when exporting from RAW

    Hello,
I am a new user of Lightroom and I find color spaces topic a bit confusing so far. My main question is: when exporting a photo, does Lightroom convert to a profile or assign a profile? Because there is no way to choose. I tried to export a photo with 3 different color spaces (sRGB, AdobeRGB and ICC profile from laboratory where I print my photos). After exporting them to JPEG it turned out that all of them look differently on my monitor - does it mean that Lightroom assigns a profile? If it was converting, shouldn't they have the same colours? What is more, after printing them in laboratory, results were completely different than I expected - the photo which had closest colours to what I saw in Lightroom was that in sRGB, but that with ICC of Lab was very different (much colder colours).
Where is the problem, or what aspect do I seem to misunderstand? Do I have wrong settings, should I use DNG to work with photos, should I export to TIFF, or I just have too weak monitor or wrongly calibrated one? Should I calibrate when viewing a picture in Lightroom or with the use of a photo exported to the ICC profile of Lab?
I would like to have a little bit of control over what I'm working on, depending on whether I want to publish it on a website or print. I know that my monitor can be a problem (I have an iiyama with IPS), but surely there has to be any way to make results of my work a bit closer to my expectations.
Just for information, my workflow doesn't require Photoshop, as I rather prefer to use only tools from Lightroom. I hope that my problem doesn't require the use of Photoshop.
I will be really greateful for your help - the general knowledge about colour spaces seems to be unsufficient when it comes to the usage of applications such as Lightroom.
    Many thanks,
    Marcin

Thank you for you helpful replies. Now I know a little bit more about it. But still, this is not completely clear to me.
My main question is: when exporting a photo, does Lightroom convert to a profile or assign a profile?
    Both.
What you mean by both? How should I interpret it? I cannot choose "convert" or "assign", so how they both work together? What does it mean for me wanting to process photo and print in Lab?
I can only add, that those 3 photos which I exported to JPEG with 3 different colour spaces, they look different when viewing outside of Lightroom, ie. IrfanView. But when importing those JPEGs into Lightroom, differences are extremly slight. Is that because Lightroom operates in ProPhoto, which covers all colour spaces which I used, and other programs work in sRGB and those photos differently?
And the last question for now: will the hardware calibrator help in monitor which is, let's say, medium cost and medium quality? I mainly use it for preparing photos to put them on the website gallery, but would be nice if I could print better ones with a bit of certainty about what I will get from Lab.
    Many thanks!!
    Marcin
When you export a photo from LR, it converts to the colour space you select (e.g. sRGB) and embeds the appropriate profile in the exported file.
If your monitor were calibrated and profiled, and you view with a colour-managed viewer then images should look pretty much identical no matter which colour space you export in.  (W7 Photo viewer is colour managed, the XP equivalent isn't, Mac s/w generally is.  IE and Chrome aren't properly colour managed, Firefox is for all images, Safari is for images with embedded profiles.  Other viewers vary.)  With colour-managed viewers, the only difference should be with very highly saturated colours outside sRGB colour space (and then only if your monitor can display those colours).
LR is colour managed.  If the monitor isn't calibrated/profiled then I think LR assumes the monitor has a colour space equivalent to sRGB (which is generally roughly right but won't be accurate).  Internally LR uses ProPhoto RGB colour space in develop module, but uses Adobe RGB in Library, and previews are stored in Adobe RGB.  However, the colour space LR uses won't explain why other viewers show things differently.  It's simply that LR is colour managed (which means it converts to/from the image colour space), and I guess the other viewers you're using aren't; they just throw RGB data at the screen without converting.
Is it worth calibrating and profiling your monitor?  Quite possibly.  Does the colour and brightness vary with viewing angle as you move your head from side to side?  If so, it may be TN technology, and perhaps not worth profiling.  If it looks reasonably stable with different viewing angle then probably yes.

  • Snow Leopard Color is Terrible

Just glad I have it installed on an external. The 2.2 gamma shift has been botched imo. None of my calibrators work properly and it hurts my eyes with blinding brightness at 2.2 gamma. Used to be able to tone it down by changing 10.5 1.8 gamma to 2.2. Unable to tone anything down as it seems Apple wants you to view their OS windows under 1.8 lightness and a 2.2 gamma curve. Not cool. Want to move to SL but can't. Considering Apple is a default standard for print and video why did they not try and talk with the 3rd party "Pro" engineers to let them know what changed with colorsync? I know there are other threads related to this. Trying to keep it at the forefront as it is much more major an issue than a consumer printer not working. No one needs a color managed Dock ffs. My icons look terrible all washed out. Please post your disdain. Let's get this fixed.

I grew tired of washed out web browser colors long ago.
The reasons for switching w/SL may be because enough users complained to Apple about their approach w/using 1.8 monitor gamma and ColorSync, and/or new staff at Apple was able to make changes. We have to wait and see if the Apple geniuses follow through, however, and enable a ColorSync setting to assume sRGB, versus ColorSync defaulting to a custom device-dependent monitor profile.
Recalibrate to the new gamma if you haven't and see this page for calibration help:
    http://www.gballard.net/boutique/colorcorrecting.html
Remember, we are now closer to device-independent color - if this isn't in your workflow now, it will be soon enough. Enjoy the new blacks w/SL and don't worry too hard over gamma for the time being - the move that SL represents has only started.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It is a good idea to run the new MBP through several calibration cycles, instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490
The calibration helps your computer know when the battery really is low, otherwise it will keep more charge available than it needs to when it shuts down so that it doesn't have to shut off after going to sleep.
Here's another article about helping the MBP last longer when running on battery:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3557
Apple says this about their battery life claims:
    About Apple battery life claims
Published battery life is based on a light duty test that involves wirelessly browsing various websites and editing text in a word processing document with display brightness set to the middle setting.
The more intensive the usage of a computer, the faster the battery will drain. For example, while a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010) used as described above can get up to 9 Hours of battery life, the same MacBook Pro computer continuously playing DVD movies with the display set to full brightness will drain the battery more quickly.
Hopefully this will help you get more enjoyment out of your computer.
    Best wishes. Joel.

  • Monitor gamma settings

I have been working on some video footage which will likely be posted online and be put on DVD as well. Unfortunately for me I can afford an actual monitor for assuring accurate color so the best I can do for now is calibrate the display on my Powerbook. After doing some test DVD burns and trying it on different tv sets I have noticed that the image is considerably brighter than what is on my computer. It is in the broadcast safe range but it started to make me wonder why there was such a discrepancy and how I go about getting color for both the web and DVD close together.
After doing some searching around I have found that some people recommend keeping the gamma setting at 1.8 (typical Mac gamma) as opposed to the 2.2 I have mine set at. I had assumed 2.2 would give me more predictable results for n the bulk of computers but what I have read lately is that FCP may actually already assuming I have it at 1.8 and making the necessary adjustments in the viewer. If this is the case, then perhaps my DVD look and web look aren't so far apart.
Can anyone tell me if I should have my monitor set at 1.8 and if FCP does in fact compensate assuming I have it set at this?

If I understand you correctly, FCP does assume a gamma setting of 1.8 then. I have always been of the belief that proper calibration helped to establish a proper baseline but have been confused about the gamma setting to use. There seems to be a lot of disagreement about whether or not to calibrate and I guess that is somewhat subjective for the user but whether or not FCP is compensating based on a gamma of 1.8 is not subjective and there seems to be a bit of confusion about this. Does Apple clearly state anywhere in the FCP user manual that it is assuming 1.8? If so perhaps if somewhat could paste the info in a reply here to definitively answer for both me and others would be helpful.

  • HT1519 Do I need to buy a new battery ASAP if the cycle count is way over limit?

My macbook OS X 10.6.8  (late 2007) is listed as having a maximum  battery cycle of 300; my system reports 415 cycles and I have never calibrated. Do I need to buy a new battery ASAP? Would calibrating help?

A solid state drive or 'SSD' is a flash based storage drive used in newer Macs and PCs that give a significant speed increase as well as reduced power consumption due to not having any moving parts like a hard disc drive or 'HDD' s which work on spinning magnetic platters driven by a motor.
They are backwards compatible as they come in the same sizes as previous HDDs (physical size) and connect to the same Sata interface, so are simply a swappable item. Smaller SSD storage sizes are not too badly priced these days, however the larger drives are still fairly expensive.
