Calibration tool for 24" LED Display

Greetings, I'm currently using the 24" display with my MacBook Pro and am looking for calibration tool recommendations. I went to the Apple store and they sold me the Huey Pro from Pantone. I haven't opened it yet as I saw it had mixed reviews. It also says it's for CRT's and LCD's. Has anyone tried it on the 24" LED monitor? Successes/failures appreciated.
Thanks.

Brightness and Contrast settings are both dictated by ambient light in the room. There is no set point, and so day and night modes are used for this reason. For this properly setup, you need to use a test pattern which shows the greyscale detail and increments from black to white. Typically "pluge" or blinking patterns are used as well.
After setting those up, you DO NOT want ambient light present when using your meter. Meter's don't have peripheral vision like we do to compensate for room lighting tones... therefore, either work in the dark, or drape something over the sensor & screen.
Here is a free download to get some patterns:

Good luck.

The volume controls stopped working properly for my LED Display (Mac Pro OS-X 10.6.8).  The sliders go up and down, and the clicks are audible, but the sound levels remain the same.  The internal speaker sound settings/controls are working properly.  I tried restarting to no avail.

Is the warranty for 27" LED display worldwide/international?
I'm going to by display for my MBP in USA, while living in Ukraine and using it in Ukraine most of the time? Does the warranty cover issues in my country?

will apple Malaysia replace a refurbished macbook under warranty bought in Australia?
You need confirmation directly from Apple about your concerns.  Call the tech support center that handles your country Malaysia if there is none in Malaysia.

  • Color Calibration for 27 " LED Display

I am shoping for a color calibration system for my 27 inch LED Display.  I was planing on gettinga ColorMunki Photo but I am not certain it will work with a LED backlit display.  What about the Spyder 3 route ?

I got the following response from Datacolor.  So I guess the Spyder is an option.
    Dear Thomas,
thank you very much for your message and your faith in Datacolor products.
The Spyder3 (Elite, Pro and Express) is fully compatible with latest display technologies, such as LED-Backlight, Wide-Gammut and screens with a glossy surface.
    Best regards,

  • Using the LED display as a heater!

    Hello,
I'm living in a student dorm in UK and it's pretty cold in the night.
My central heater is not always turning on and I always have a trouble complaining to the accommodation office.
Now I have a 24" LED cinema display and my problem is gone. I can feel strong background heat in my room after having the display turned on about 1 hour.
So it's a buy-1-get-1-free: Display and a room heater in one prize. Cool, isn't it? (Well, I mean, hot...)
Back to serious thing. I would like to know if it is a normal for a LED display. Since I never had a display before, only had a laptop.
I touched everywhere of the screen, back and front, and feel the same heat dispersed all over its body. There is especially heat coming out from the bottom mesh, where I always put a cup of tea there and keep it warm.
Overall, no problem for me, but I don't know if it will cause any damage to the display in the long run. I have no AppleCare for this display because I did not purchase the same time as my laptop, and purchase a new protection plan is expensive though.

Mine gets very warm also. Remember the power source is now inside of the display. Its vented at the bottom, and helps to keep my hands warm while typing. But its perfectly normal. If you check the LED displays at the Apple stores, they too generate a lot of heat. Even my 40" Sony XBR LCD TV gets warm, so I think that is normal.

  • MacBook Pro 15" LED display

    Hi
I am wondering if the problem of flickering displays will ever be properly eliminated by future updates by apple.
I already returned my first LED MacBoo Pro for the yellow screen tint, and have a new one wich tends to flicker on the uper third of the display even after all the software and firmware updates.
Is this a long-term problem, or do I just hope that the right update will come soon?
    Thanks
    Martin

You can buy a VESA Mount Adapter Kit for 24" LED Display and then connect an Ergotron MX Desk Mount to the display so then you can have a display that is able to move freely above your desk, and essentially have your Macbook Pro beneath it. This is the set up I plan to have for my dorm desk in a few weeks.

  • Calibrating LED Display

    Hi,
I've searched for but not found an answer to the following questions:
    1. I want to use an Eye-One calibrator on my new MBP 15 with its LED display. As I understand it, the display is actually an LCD display with LED, rather than flourescent, backlighting.
Question: Is there any reason the Eye-One won't work?
    2. At work, I hook up a Samsung monitor. I want to calibrate it, too. As I understand it, because the MBP has but one video card, I will be able to profile the Samsung, but I will have to use that profile on both my screens (the MBP) while running two monitors. Is that correct? If so, no problem -- I'll put my images on the Samsung and the tools on the MBP.
Thanks, in advance, for the advice.

I have calibrated my new macbook pro with the led lcd with a older model gretag eye one. I used version 3.6 software downloaded from gretag macbeth's website. The calibration worked out great. I used native color temperature and gamma 2.2. I have an image from fuji called fujical, the screen matches fujical's print perfectly, as well as other control prints I use. Good luck

  • Apple display calibration tool messes everything up?

So I recently had my display clamshell replaced on my mbpr 15" for the bright mura spots that I had. I noticed when I got it back that I must've gotten a samsung display because everything was just a tinge too yellow. I prefer it to the cool bluish whites of the LG display I had before though. I wanted to try the screen calibration tool to try and calibrate the white balance though. When you do this, you also have to calibrate the gamma though. For some reason, the tool ALWAYS messes up the gamma correction, I'm not sure how. The native gamma of the display is 2.2, exactly what it should be. For some reason, when I go through and do all of those apple logo tests where you're supposed to make the logo disappear into the background, it winds up calculating that the native gamma of the display is somewhere around 1.5 to 1.7, which is utterly wrong. I would say no big deal, because I can just tick the checkbox that says "use native gamma of display" and presumably it'd leave the gamma alone, right? So I check the box, and on a graphic I have (zoomed to 100% or actual size) the colors even out at 2.2, which means the display is calibrated to gamma 2.2. So I proceed to adjust the white balance to what I want, just a titch cooler than the native white balance. Then I click continue, and on the very last screen of the calibration tool, it changes the gamma to 2.6. EVERY TIME. Without fail, even if I slide the gamma slider all the way to 1.0 when I reach the last screen it makes it 2.6. How? I have zero ideas. But it's driving me NUTS. All I want to do is adjust the white balance, I don't even want to touch the gamma, but for some reason I can't do that without raising my gamma to 2.6. Anybody? Please, this is going to make me insane.

Can anyone confirm this on their MacBook?

  • Found a GREAT display Calibration Tool!

If you are like me, you are probably not very satisfied with the look of your MBPs display profile out of the box. Apple's COLOR calibration system is pretty lame and it makes it almost impossible to get the screen to look right!
Having just switched over from a Powerbook G4 that had a perfectly calibrated display, I had been struggling for days to get this new MBP 15" to look as good. Something was always not right. Either there was a green or blue tint to the screen, the gamma was not low enough so everything looked washed out etc.
I stumbled upon an EXCELLENT little FREE tool called SuperCal that worked like magic on finally getting my screen to look right. It still took a couple of tries, but unlike the Apple calibration tool, you can EDIT EXISTING PROFILES created in SuperCal, so you can go back and TWEAK your settings until you have everything nailed!
    Check it out!
    http://www.bergdesign.com/supercal/
I would post a link to my final profile for you to try, but I can't seem to get the file to download right when I try it on here.

I am pretty sure that what I described is not a hardware problem. The whites are white and the blacks are black, but blues and greens were slightly off. They aren't anymore. ;o)
I'm pretty sure that this is standard on all new MBPs.
The display setting out of the box is over-saturated and the GAMMA is set way too low causing a washed out image. I've seen the same thing at the Apple store.
Having owned Macs for the last 25 years, and currently owning two large Cinemas that have been calibrated using a Colortron, I am speaking from experience here. The shift I referred to is subtle and most users would probably never notice it. Especially if they have nothing calibrated to compare it to.
Never the less, I am taking the machine in to an Apple Store on Monday to have this vibrating 7200rpm drive replaced, so I will switch the display back to the "un-calibrated stock setting" and see what the Apple folks have to say. I am pretty sure that they will say it looks fine to them, since most of the display Macs I see at these stores are not calibrated either.
Only displays I see looking right there are the large Cinema displays like the two I own. Probably because Apple wants people to see a HUGE difference between those and a standard laptop display. LOL!
The fact is... With some tweaking using a good software based tool like SuperCal, you can get one of these MBPs to look "almost" as good as a hardware calibrated Cinema display that cost me more than this entire laptop did! ;o)
I haven't priced hardware calibration tools recently. I had my Cinemas done by a shop since at that time the device used on mine was several thousand dollars to purchase.

Does the problem occur when you do not use that application?
If not, then SEO Tools is the problem and iWeb is not involved.

  • What resolution should i take for a movie to be played on 70X20 LED display?

I am working on an animated video that will be played on 70X20 Feet LED display. What resolution should i take?

size of the screen is 80640 X 23040 (in pixels)
You are going to need a monster to playback something like that. Are you sure? The max comp size in AE is 30,000 pixels. Your specs claim a requirement for 80,640 which is about 20 4K displays.
The data rate for a comp that is 42 times wider than HD would be crazy and probably require an array of high end server grade machines and fiber optics to push even 20 fps video through the system.
As I said before, you MUST contact the manufacturer for their exact media specifications.

  • 21.5" LED display...is it best to keep it on mid-brightness for longevity?

I love my new iMac. The size and quality of the new LED display is remarkable. I keep it on maximum brightness, but worry that that will wear it out after a couple of years. If I plan on keeping this machine for 3 years, should I lower the brightness to ensure that it will be just as bright 3 years from now?
    Hugh

    Hi Hugh
To help save energy and prolong the life of the graphics chip and display:
    1. Go to: *System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Screen Saver* and set *Start screen saver:* to Never. +(just me, but they waste energy, pound the graphics chip and hog resources)+
    2. Go to: *System Preferences > Energy Saver* and set the *Display sleep:* time down to around *10 to 15* min. +(for me, 5 min. works if it's not in use it sleeps)+
    3. Go to: *System Preferences > Exposé & Spaces > Exposé* and set an *Active Screen Corner* to sleep the display. +(for me optional, if I forget auto Display sleep kicks in)+
On Jan 21 2010 my Early Core Duo will be 4 years old and I hope to have it for many more.

  • Best stand for MacBook Pro and Apple LED Display

I am buying a MacBook Pro and Apple LED Display tomorrow. I want to have a two display setup, similar to what I have seen in the Apple Store. I believe they used a Griffin Elevator. I want to make sure of two things: that the stand is sturdy enough so that my laptop won't slide off of it and that I can adjust the stand/monitor so that the tops are level (so that moving my mouse from the laptop to monitor and back is smooth - i.e. the cursor doesn't jump up or down.
I like the fact that I can use this setup to go mobile very quickly, but what about my direct Ethernet connection. I wish there were a stand/dock such that I could hook everything up to it and then just undock the entire machine.

How did you solve the problem of closing the Macbook Pro when it was connected to the display and preventing it from going to sleep?
I am thinking about buying one. When I went to the local Apple Store the tech guys told me that it would be necessary to keep the laptop open slightly when connecting it to the display. They said it was something to do with cooling. It didn't sound right to me. I'm sure that Apple didn't solely intend for the Cinema Displays to be used by Mac Pro and Mac Mini users.
There must be a simple way to "dock" or connect a Mac laptop (Macbook Pro or Macbook) to an Apple Cinema display or any other display with DVI input while keeping the laptop closed with an external keyboard and mouse connected and still be able to use the SuperDrive.
I'm very curious about how you handled this.
    All the best for now,
    Ambrose
