Call all HTC Droid owners

This guy the other day I was talking to said that the Iphone is way better and faster then the HTC droid incredible. So I am asking people who own the HTC incredible if it can:
1. Do everything the Iphone can do
2. Run apps better then the Iphone
In 12 months I will be able to get a new phone with Verizon and I was wondering if the Droid phones are any good then I'll stay but if not I may switch. I am happy with Verizon, If I am paying 30 bucks a month for unlimited data then I expect the internet to be really fast.

Let me put it like this.  The iPhone 4G is coming out this month.  I haven't heard what the processor is like but it will be an A4 processor possibly as high as 1Ghz.  Front facing camera for video calls to other iphone 4G users only.  It will be sporting the same 3.5" display it always had but with the highest resolution of any phone currently on the market.  Tiny but high resolution.  The new OS now features its own special version of multitasking, which is nice since you can use data and make calls at the same time over the air (meaning without wifi which you need active to do the same thing on CDMA phones on Verizon).  It sports a 5MP camera.  According to preliminary reviews from people with the first few of these the call quality is much improved both with the software and the antennae placement.  All in all iPhone users will be greatly pleased with this current iteration of their beloved icon. However, Non iPhone fanboys are a little disappointed because all iPhone OS4 really did was catch the technical specs up to Android phones that are currently out.  Sure cutting edge like the EVO but that's only impressive for a month or 2 until it is upstaged.
The Droid Incredible boasts a 1GhZ Qualcom Snapdragon processor.  It's fast like a marsupial (vague Bob and Tom reference for fun because I like the impression of Christopher Walken one of their guests did), Android has always done multitasking so big check mark on that one.  The screen is a 3.7" 800 X 480 which looks outstanding.  The Amoled screen uses less battery than tft and in the Incredible the touch sensors are incredible best on a phone at least up until it came out in late April early May.  Android is far more customizable than iPhone OS unless that has been changed as well (it hasn't).  The Droid incredible does not capture HD movies nor does it have a front facing camera.  The EVO was the first to sport one of those in the Android world (at least in the available on a network Android world the Saygus had it way before but has yet to be released) there will be more coming.  However, the Incredible does have FM radio receiver which is nice to have an 8MP camera.  The incredible does have some weaknesses a few other Android phones do not have one of which is antennae placement does impede signal strength and for some this has proven to be a significant issue for others it hasn't been an issue at all.  It doesn't capture HD movies which is kind of one of those big question marks considering it is basically standard on most phones now however considering the cameras capabilities I imagine that can be boosted with software if I am not mistaken.  Though it may never be.
The difference in platform is a significant topic.  iPhone OS has the advantage of the larger app store.  Currently somewhere around 200,000 apps.  The Android market houses somewhere around 70, 000 neither number is official.   The iPhone store is the only place where you can get apps for your iPhone and it is closely guarded and regulated and periodically apps are removed often for no apparent reason.  The Android market has some kind of regulation but it is considerably looser.  Apps aren't turned down because Google doesn't like them or agree with them there are very few reasons apps would be removed mostly for being malicious.  The Android market isn't the only resource for Android apps either.  There are other app stores out there some solely for phones that have been R'ed (the evil R word which must not be named) and app stores just for special interests or some just because it isn't a violation of anything about Android.  Currently the Android market is growing at a rate of around 15,000 apps a month and that number grows every month it is pheasible that by the end of the year size of market will be a moot point especially with the coming of new features, new more advanced phones, the ability to install apps on sd cards and larger portions of built in memory, JIT support which is being added to Froyo, and Flash support which is already supported by Froyo so all we wait for is the rollout of Froyo.  iPhone developers and Steve Jobs himself has stated under no uncertain terms that Flash WILL NEVER be on the iPhone.  Adobe has approached them with it and have been refused multiple times.  It has caused friction between Adobe and Apple which had never existed before.  Steve Jobs believes HTML5 will be the new standard and will do everything Flash does so there is no need for Flash.  You know except that HTML 5 is still in development and it is still unknown when it will be released and official.  Also missing the point that there is an entire world of Flash content on the web that is currently unavailable but soon to be available to Android, Winmo, and possibly Blackberry users that will never see the light of day on an iPhone.  I don't know about you but for me that is a big deal.  I am a photographer of sorts but more importantly to the topic I have a lot of friends who are photographers many of whom use Flash content heavily on their websites.  I like playing quick games on the web Flash is the bulk of the quick little games available as well as a lot of the heavier games.  Video services such as netflix and Hulu rely on Flash to operate.  Some of Microsofts cloud programs are avaiable on the web in the form of flash content.  The list goes on.  It is arguable that some of those will be tough to use or impossible on a mobile phone ok granted but some things especially the video content would be amazingly fun to have especially if you take a lot of public transport (the electric busses in Chattanooga provide free WiFi as do some busses in other cities).
I don't think Android will Kill the iPhone but I think that currently they stand on arguably equal footing with slight advantages going either way.  Android stands to have an advantage though from the standpoint of popularity it will never kill the iPhone because iPhone supporters are so dedicated to iWhatever that it will never die completely.  Many of these people started with iPods when they first came out and were tied to them during the heavy DRM days and would hate to lose their collection of DRM'ed material.  Though for much of the content and hopefully eventually the rest of it that will be removed or universalized as well so that iWhatever users will be able to choose what best serves them and Apple will be forced to more effeciently keep up. .
Oh and with 12 months to go before you can upgrade think about this by then you will be choosing between a still GSM version of iPhone 5 catching up to whatever minicomputer is passing as an Android phone, and an LTE Android phone on Verizon.  By then we will be complaining about not getting Android version 3.5 yet and looking at rumors of a multicore processing Android phone with no less than a gig of Ram and a built in solid state harddrive with 120Gigs on it. Possibly with built in projection (already available on some models not as theoretical as it sounds).  We could also pheasibly have an option to get a truely Google phone with data only and make and receive calls using our Google Voice numbers or Google Skype (can't you just see Google eating Skype and offering a better alternative for mobile Skype calling possibly or more to the point probably integrated into Google Voice).  Ah what dreams may come.
If that sounds like a pipe dream I can honestly say only 3 things in that paragraph seem like they may be a little bit of a stretch.  First iPhone5 coming out (they haven't been on a 12 month schedule before the only reason I say that is that they will have to speed up development to stay competitive because Android moves so dang quickly and is grabbing a lot of the new smartphone users because they are always coming out with something better).  Second solid state harddrives on phones, it isn't completely unreasonable but could add bulk or too much raw material costs to be realistic within a year.  I will just say it could happen but I don't really expect it.  Third Google eating Skype they have bought up other VOIP provider giants and are working on somethings around that but I expect it being longer than a year before that is realistically an option and even then I imagine it being a new service in Beta the way Google Voice has been for so long.  Of the three I think the solid state harddrives are the least far fetched closely followed by iPhone 5.  Apple is going to have to adapt and I think they are about to start seeing that more clearly especially in the next few months when 200,000 apps just isn't something you can rest on to impress people.  Yeah 200,000 apps most of which are games that I can get on Android because they have Flash anyway and besides they have 200,000 apps as well with fewer than a third being games.  Yeah definitely that in a year.  Definitely.

Problem fixed now as mentioned in other post. Seems that it doesn't like the function keys been set to default as opposed to the media keys in the BIOS settings. Hope this helps someone in the future. Surprised no-one else has run across this problem.
If anyone know of a fix for this would be appreciated. Save me from doing yoga with my fingers when trying to do simple keyboard shortcuts. Currently using latest Dell BIOS "A04" (http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/ … erId=K5CNF)

  • Calling all iPod Classic owner who wants to use iPod Camera Connector

Dear All Honoured iPod Classic users a.k.a Photo Enthusiats,
Good day. I have recently bought an iPod Classic and iPod Camera Connector. As many of us may be into photography. I believe you may agree with me, it is more expensive to buy CF Card especially when you travelling on holiday or assignment. Moreover 1x 8GB CF card is never enough.
It is troublesome to bring your laptop together when you are travelling. So the best option to transfer all your photos from the camera is to use an iPod Classis and Camera Connector. This helps you to continue shooting without worrying running out of CF card for your next day shooting.
Currently iPod Classic has firmware v1.0.3 but iPod Camera Connector only works for iPod v.1.1 and above. So, in conclusion ... i urge every member here to send in their feedback to Apple ... logon to http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html , so that Apple will act on it sooner rather than we play wait and see game.
So, logon today and send in your feedback. Who knows, tomorrow we will have the iPod Classic firmware updates that allow us to use iPod Camera Connector and this will solve our problem and save our money in CF card.
    Cheers! Happy New Year.

Interesting web site. I holiday in the UK (my passport ran out in '91 and I haven't felt the need to replace it yet) and off to Shropshire in September.
Lovely, the UK is actually a surprisingly excellent place to retreat to, despite the occasional weather issues.

It is a little too large to be portable but it will fit in the car to be taken to our cottage holidays and has an amazing range of features and a sub woofer in the base as you can see from the review.
Yes, if you have the money, the B&W is great, but as I said, it's only a speaker.

All of the PURE products are excellent, good luck finding one to suit your needs!

  • HTC Droid DNA - How to enable Call Forwarding in GSM mode in International Network

    Hi,
I have bought HTC Droid DNA (Verizon) from ebay in India and I am able to use any 2G or 3G GSM network as it not locked by Verizon  however there is no option to enable CALL Forwarding in phone settings.
Please help me and let me know how to enable call forwarding in HTC Droid DNA in GSM mode,

I don't think you can, call forwarding is enabled by Verizon here in the states.  Maybe check with your carrier?

My Droid Maxx deleted all my text messages by itself. I had all of them, got a phone call, and when I got off the call, all my texts where gone. Is there a way I can get them all back? I had a lot and some where really important to me. I turned the phone off and on again thinking that would bring them back because of some glitch but it didn't help. Does anyone know of a way to bring them all back?

It's very possible to get your messages back. Verizon Messages (app) from the Play Store has options both to restore and back up your messages. They can be downloaded as a file and saved on the device or SD card. By pulling the menu out from the left side and choosing "Restore Conversations", you can (hopefully) restore your lost messages but it says for 90 days. I hope this doesn't reach you too late.

  • Droid X Makes Calls All By Itself

Starting having problems with this about a month ago. Phone is sitting on my dresser and NOBODY is near it and it makes calls all by itself! In the past 2 weeks, it's done it at least 15 times. And the REAL pain is: It does it at 3 o'clock in the morning!!!! People are getting mad at me for waking them up AND scaring them (thinking something is really wrong).
Last night I was watching TV and I heard voices coming from my phone. It had called my BOSS at 11:15 pm (and woke him up). He was not happy. It calls my voice mail. Several of the people it has called are people I haven't called (or them call me) in over a year! It even called my wife this morning and I wasn't aware of it and she got worried something was wrong.
One of the other things it has done is downloaded pictures and apps. Nothing "dirty" but a couple weeks ago it was background photos and "skins" for my phone and there were like 300 of them!!! I deleted them all and then another batch came through a couple days later. I'll have my phone charging and when I go to look at it, it's actually "surfing" on some web site that I have never (and WOULD never) visit. Again, nothing like porn. But just weird stuff.
Am I being hacked? Do I have some kind of virus? Are there really ghosts in the machine?
HELP!!!  I'm about ready to throw this thing away and get a different phone. Any ideas???

That's very strange ...  It does sound like you somehow picked up a Virus or rogue App. If it is somewhat reproduceable (e.g., happens every night), you COULD try just running in SAFE MODE for a few nights. Just put it in SAFE MODE before you go to bed and see if it happens again. If it doesn't occur anymore during this test period you most likely have a rogue app that you downloaded.
Other options? Maybe do this in the following order.
    - go back an uninstall any/all 3rd party Apps that you got in the last month (when this all started)
    - Clear Cache form the Power Up method.
    - as a silver bullet, the (gulp) factory reset  ...  but if you decide to do this, make sure you don't just download and install all your apps right away ... run in "Stock mode" for a duration that you feel like the problem is solved.  (ps, if you go to Verizon with your problem they will likely do this anyway.)
good luck .. you certainly have a unique problem. if you need instructions on how to do any of this just ask, or do a search in the forum for the procedure.  Please let us know if you're able to fix this and what the solution is.

  • My HTC Droid Eris rant, maybe you can help, maybe someone with some power will read

Alright I've got a new HTC Droid on the way, for the next 2 days I have a phone I can use the internet and check my email on, but the most basic cell phone functions I can no longer use, send/receive both calls and messages.
I'll get into the problems that lead me to do a hard reset on my phone today later, we'll start there.
So I've read about doing a hard reset and how it fixes a lot of problems.  So I prepared today not knowing what would happen really.  Backed up my photos and contacts and had at it.  Turns out I didn't need to back those up.
So everything goes alright, it calls Verizon to activate my phone, says everything went fine.  No calls or text messaging.  But I've got internet and gmail. I get an error message when trying to send texts, and I get a verizon recording saying "We can't authenticate your phone."
Take it in to the Verizon store, they can't figure it out either, so they order me a new phone.
The greeter gal was the most helpful really, she asked me if I did a *228, I didn't know what it was cause the phone called to activate by itself.  So later I tried that wondering if it was something different.  I tried the second option activating roaming.  Didn't work.
So right now as I'm typing this I got the battery out, we'll see if that works.
Alright here's my laundry list of complaints:
It's slow, even for the most basic things like making a call or text messaging.  I understand it's not a very fast processor compared to other phones but for basic things it shouldn't struggle.  Hell even the calculator lags.
The messaging program sucks.  Well since the update I see they finally made it so it can play animated gifs.  But where to begin with this,  well first you can't delete messages.  It locks up.  Second if you don't want to delete a whole thread, you can't go through and select all the ones you want to delete, and mass delete, no you have to hold down everyone you want to delete, till the screen pops up, click delete, wait, and go to the next one.
If that wasn't time consuming enough, wait till you get a picture message with multiple attachments.   No it can't play it like regular phones, this is a droid dammit!  We have to be innovative and make it so you click on the attachments button, and it brings up a screen that lists all the attachments!  Then when you find the one you want, you can't simply just click it to view it, no we give you another pop up that gives you options, to view, or save the attachment!  I mean regular phones you could save the attachments while you're viewing them, but droid gives you options before hand, then after all the lag to load and exit the attachment, you get to start all over to look at the next one! (Handcent fixed a lot of the problems I had with the messaging but it loses multiple attachments so I end up going back to regular messaging to look at them)
Gmail on your phone!  Only thing that sucks about this is google saves every person you have correspondence with through gmail as a friggin contact.  At least I can delete them off my phone, time consuming and annoying, I still haven't figured out how to delete them off actual gmail.
Facebook!  Hey if google contacts wasn't bad enough, in this connected day and age, when you type in a name to call or send a text message to, it searches facebook friends too!  And its really fun when your friends have old numbers listed on their facebook account and you call it and it's some 80 year old guy named herbert who says he'll dress in pig tails and be Jessica if I want.
I use Gmail, I use Facebook, but I do not need these to be a part of my contacts for my calling and texting in any way!
The silent phone issues.  Mine has gotten worse lately.
The one thing I didn't mind, the browser, well attention is in the details, and they made one thing super annoying now.  I liked browsing craigslist on my phone, most browsers for computers, you click the back button, it returns you to the point in the page you were at, oh no, not droid, it takes you to some point in the page it feels like going back to when you click back.  Which is annoying when you're zoomed in trying to go down a list.  Either fix this or make it so you can just open links in new tabs.
I've been searching online for solutions to these problems if you got any please fill me in.  And before I send this, I put the battery back in, booted it up, still not able to make calls or send messages.

Firstly, your device authentication issue has absolutely nothing to do with your device. Even a Knack can get that error. In a nutshell, your device authenitication needs to be updated and a quick call to tech support can fix that. It takes 35 seconds to resolve that issue once you get through.
Second, need some tissues? The Eris is an entry level phone. Don't like the included messaging app? Download Handcent. Or Chomp. You are really being overly whiney and will probably not be happy with another Droid device either. All devices need some set up, optimization, and guess what, basic user knowledge. Sounds like you never even bothered to crack the manual or seek out help.
And yes, I do own an Eris.

  • Attn: ALL APPLE PORTABLE OWNERS -Macbook Pro, MacBook Air Apple portable slowdown / kernel high CPU solution

Attn: ALL APPLE PORTABLE OWNERS -MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac mini slowdown kernel / high CPU use problem and solution.
YOU COULD FRY YOUR COMPUTER IF YOU DO NOT FIX THIS PROBLEM SO PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE MESSAGE!
    YOUR MAC WILL THANK YOU
    Hey all.
Like many of you I've got a newer Apple portable which slows down to an unusable level for an unknown reason. In my case a 13" mid 2009 Intel MacBook Pro Core 2 duo laptop. After many failed attempts to figure out what this nutty problem is I have discovered the problem, the solution and I have solved this for my own MacBook Pro. Since this fix it has been working immediately and consistently -without issue
I am sharing this with you in hopes that you to can fix your Apple portable yourself or so you know what to tell the Apple techs so they can quickly fix your Mac from this wacky and unfortunate kernel CPU hogging problem.
    User Software Symptoms :
Your Apple portable computer periodically for an unknown reason slows down making everything frustratingly slow. This happens even when running previous apps that were never a problem; things that your Mac should be able to handle easily but for some reason now it can't.
Slowdown most often happens during high CPU use such as gaming, video playback/editing, etc. or when running multiple apps (even non CPU intensive apps) at the same time.
    Possible Hardware Symptoms:
Your computer is making more noise than it did previously.
Your computer occasionally makes more noise but then gets quieter.
Your computer is always extremely quiet (too quiet) even during high CPU apps -worst case scenario.
It feels hotter than it normally does. Test: After several minutes of the slowness/high kernel CPU touch the computer to feel if it's hotter than normal.
Looking at Activity Monitor (in the Utilities folder) shows the kernel_task is going bonkers eating up CPU but you have no idea why.
After trying many different things to solve this problem such as :
PR ram reset, SMC reset, fresh OS install of 10.5 and 10.6 on external hard-drives, calling and speaking to various Apple tech people who had no ideas/solutions, etc. I had no luck.
Btw, if you're having the symptoms I've decscribed above I would not run the Apple Hardware check (read below as to why). You could fry your Mac!
After much testing I found the problem :
It is my belief that "recent" Apple portable computers are using low quality internal fans which soon stop working!
Fail time period seems to be about 1.0 years to 2.5 years of use but this fail rate could vary depending on use.
First noticeable symptoms (depending on what you notice) could be computer slowdown or your fan is making more noise than it normally does. This is your fan's lubrication slowly eroding making your fan spin slower and less smooth resulting in the louder noise and slower rpm spin speed. The slower fan spin speed means less cooling is happening for your computer. The effect on your computer is that the CPU and other chips are heating up! Overheating to be more specific. When your computer's chips overheat they get wonky and screw things up. Most often this seems to have the effect of making the kernel hog CPU resulting in a frustratingly slow user experience! Heat kills computer chips and it is extremely bad for them. Extreme overheat or repeated overheating has been said to shorten the life of computer chips or in extreme cases even fry them completely!
The longer this goes on without being fixed your fan loses more lubrication and spins slower and slower cooling lesser and lesser resulting in your CPU heating up more and more possibly shortening the life of your Mac! Eventually your fan will stop completely and you could fry your chips! My fan stopped completely and my MBP was running very quietly, too quietly. Luckily I did not fry my chips because I was avoiding using high CPU apps because I knew something was wrong due to the massive slow down and wonkiness when I'd run them.
Side Note:I'm a bit concerned about all those Mac mini servers which may be using the same defective low quality fans which cannot be easily serviced by their owners as they are co-located in some server facility. One positive thing is those facilities are usually well airconditioned keeping temps low.
I suggest you do not run the Apple hardware test if you suspect your computer is overheating because the hardware test can seriously heat up your Mac! I tried running this test and my Mac got so hot I had to shut it down forcefully and I was concerned I damaged the chips. If you want to run the Apple hardware check make sure your CPU temperature is ok and that your fan works well before you run the test.
IF YOU DON'T FIX THIS PROBLEM YOU COULD FRY YOUR COMPUTER DUE TO HEAT DAMAGE!
DO NOT IGNORE THIS PROBLEM YOUR MACS LIFE MAY DEPEND ON IT!
First you need to properly diagnose this problem and see if your CPU is getting to hot and you need to see if your fans are spinning at high rpms giving proper cooling, or if they are spinning at low rpms when running high intensive apps as your CPU temp increases.
TEST IF YOUR FAN(s) IS WORKING CORRECTLY :
Unfortunately Apple does not include CPU temperature reading software nor fan rpm speed software that I am aware of.
However, There are two free ways that I know of to check your CPU tempurature and your fan speed :
One app shows fan speed, and CPU heat, etc.
One app shows fan speed, CPU heat and allows you to adjust your fan speed settings.
One app is a dashboard widget, the other is a system preference.
I suggest you download both of these to check your computer statistics.
    http://www.eidac.de/?p=134
    http://www.islayer.com/apps/istatpro/
    http://fan-control.en.softonic.com/mac
I am not exactly sure what proper CPU temperatures are for the different Apple computers and this will change given different CPU loads.
My MBP doesn't seem to function properly with anything around 90 degrees or higher (celcius).
It seems when the fan is operating normally the CPU temp should not stay above 78 degrees even under heavy load, at least with the apps I'm running in the room temperature I'm in.
I can post back later with more specific temps under longer load, etc. but I wanted to get this post up for people to read as soon as possible so they don't fry their Macs.
If a bad fan is your problem :
THERE ARE ONLY TWO SOLUTIONS FOR THIS PROBLEM :
Fix or replace your fan so it cools the CPU and other chips properly.
I fixed my fan myself and I didn't need to buy a new one. Total cost was about $8.00 because I had to buy a #00 sized screwdriver and had it shipped to me. Price includes shipping.
On my mid 2009 model MacBook Pro fixing the fan was incredibly easy :
Before I started doing this I wasn't 100% this was the problem so I decided to try to fix my fan instead of ordering a new one and replacing it. As it turns out I didn't need a new fan, I only needed to clean the existing fan and relube it's axl so it could spin easier like when it was new.  It also didn't make sense to buy a brand new fan from an Apple authorized parts reseller selling me the same low quality fan for $49.00 which would probably fail in 2 years again. Prices for new comparable fans from different manufactures range from about $15.00 USD + shipping to around $49.00 USD + shipping depending on where you order them from and what brand you get.
How to fix / replace your internal fan on a mid 2009 MacBook Pro :
Please note : I am not a hardware technician, nor expert. If you decide to fix your Mac yourself you do so at your own risk through no fault of my own. Prior to opening up your Mac you should google around and learn how to do it correctly and safely so you won't damage your Mac. For example, it is possible for you to damage your Mac by static electricity from your body. To avoid this I believe proper procedure is that you wear a 'ground strap' (around your wrist) which  you clip to your Mac's metal body so your body will not excude a charge into your Mac. I believe the idea here is to keep your body's charge level and your Mac's similar. Since I do not have a ground strap and fixing/replacing the fan doesn't require touching any chips I did not wear a ground strap during my fan fix. What I did was periodically repeatedly touch the metal case of my MBP hoping that would be enough and it was. Avoid unecessary actions that can build up a static charge in you. Once I started the repair I did not walk around the room building up an electrical charge in my body. Walking on carpet can often build up a large charge in us so it is better to be avoided while working on your Mac. Certain clothing can build up static charges. Combing hair, etc. If you need to get up from your repair when you come back make sure you first touch the Mac's metal case and not anything inside.
Now that we're done with the scary paranoia, below you will find some instructions on how I fixed my MBP's internal fan
    Before you begin:
Check out someone's video (not mine) on how to remove / replace the fan (but not take it apart and repair it):
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AghE9newvbs
Check out someone's web page (not mine) on how to replace the fan in a mid 2009 MacBook Pro:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing-MacBook-Pro-13-Inch-Unibody-Mid-2009-Fan/ 1338/1
How to repair your mid 2009 MacBook Pro fan:
Make sure you are in a 'secure' environment. No pets, no kids running around, no drinks near the Mac, etc.
Make sure your computer is unplugged from it's power supply and turned off. NOT slept. Totally off / powered down.
    1. Get a size #00 phillips screwdriver (Hobby store, Radioshack, Amazon).
    2. Open up your MBP by unscrewing the bottom (yes flip it over so it's resting upsidedown). Note where each screw goes because some are different lengths. I placed each one around my MBP where they go, insuring I know their order (don't jumble them up). Note which direction your MBP is facing when it's upside down so if you spin it around while working on it you still know where the screws go.
2b. Some recommend removing the MBP's battery but I didn't do this step. You probably should, just to be safe. Follow the online instructions from the web page I listed about disconnecting the battery.
    3. Unscrew the fan's 3 holding screws.
    4. Unplug the fan's electrical connection (lift it straight up off the board). If you need to you can try to pry it up while you lift with a non metal/non electrical conductive object like a spudger if you have one or -perhaps a pen cap. Before you remove it, look closely at how it's attached so when you put it back on you won't wonder if you're doing it correctly. There's only one way it can go because it cannot fit 'the wrong way' but looking at it closely will make you feel more confident popping it back on when the time comes.
    5. Remove the fan - it easily lifts out.
    6. Take the fan apart by unscrewing it's one screw then unlatching the  plastic clips which hold it together.
    7. Seperate the fan blades from the housing. Lift the fan blades off of the fan housing by pulling it straight out away from the housing.
    8. Clean off the dust that's gathered. A can of compressed air helps here (I didn't have one). I used a little brush from my electric shaver kit which worked well. Once you've removed all the dust from the fan and surrounding areas proceed to the next step.
    9. Reapply new lubrication. You need less than 1 drop. Be sure it covers the entire fan blade axl as this is what needs to be well lubricated. Make sure there isn't excess oil that will fly around when the axl/fan spins at high rpms. I used the only oil I had which was olive oil (for cooking!) but I do not suggest this. At the time I was doing this I didn't know my fan was the problem so I wasn't even sure I was going to relube it. You should probably use something more appropriate perhaps like 3 in 1 oil. A good idea would be to call the manufatures of these little fans and ask them. Maybe a hobby store knows of good lubricants for these purposes?
DO NOT use things like WD 40 as it's not a long term lubricant or so I've read.
    10. Once your fan is now clean and oiled (make sure there isn't too much oil) reassmble the fan.
Push the fan blades/axl back into the housing shaft. Give it a few spins with your finger.
Screw together the fan housing then reclip the clips.
    11. Place the now reassembled fan back into your Mac and screw it in place (3 screws).
    12. Reattach the fan's electrical wiring by gently pushing it into place. Make sure you've got the right end facing down before you push it in place.
    13. Once your Mac's internals are clean and reassembled, place the rear cover back on your Mac and screw it in place.
    14. Double check you didn't forget anything like screws, tools, etc.
    15. Boot up your Mac and monitor the temperature and fan speed using those programs.
Compare the previous temps/fan speed to the current temp/fan speed.
Run a high CPU intensive app where your computer has been slowing down.
You should now have a happy Mac
If you have this problem and this solution fixed it for you please post in this thread letting me and everyone else know!
    Hope that helps.

Thanks for your lengthy reminder dude, I have a similar Mac with yours. I suspect its a software fault because it happens after I upgraded to Lion, 10.7.2.

  • Firefox constantly crashes on my htc droid incredible

i have an HTC Droid Incredible and have been using firefox for a while. all of a sudden, when i try to use firefox on my phone, it opens for a few seconds then the screen turns white then takes me to a page that says FireFox has crashed and allows me to restart or close the program. Regardless of closing or restarting, the it always crashes. I've unistalled and reinstalled FireFox to see if that would fix it but it doesn't. My other internet browser works fine. Does anyone have any advise on how to fix this?

    Have you rebooted the phone?

  • If you receive the HTC Droid Incredible Froyo update, please post here.

It is August 18th and we all know the rumors said we would get Froyo today on our  Incredibles. If you receive the HTC Droid Incredible Froyo update, please post here so those of us waiting will know that the update is starting to download. It should be downloading by batches of phones. Once we know it has started, at least we'll all know it's then just going to be a short time until we are in an update batch.

My wife had the update waiting when she checked her phone at 9am this morning, I'm still waiting.
She's got a 917 area code and I'm 646.  Her phone's paid by a corporate account while mine is tied to a different larger corporate account, but it is my personal phone that I pay for.
I've got my phone about a month before her and have been a longer VZW customer, so no idea what the distribution order is.

  • How does HTC Droid recognize phone extension?

I recently traded in my old Blackberry for an HTC Droid Incredible 2 and am using DejaOffice App to manage contacts, calendars, etc. I use Companion Link Express as an add-in to sync between Sage ACT 2010 contact database and DejaOffice as prescribed by the professional.  Scared yet?  The problem is the Droid phone does note recognizes the default phone extension symbol (semicolon symbol and sees the number as an international call. I spoke to DejaOffice tech support and they tell me to contact Verizon to ask them what symbol my Droid uses to recognize extension number.   Thanks, atmdad

I appreciate your inquiry. I would suggest trying a comma. A lot of Android phones use a comma for extensions.

  • Htc Droid dna Contact trouble

Ok so my htc droid dan has some serious issues but last night the device completely reset everything. I lost all my contacts, and I'm not sure how to get them back when i go to backup assistant plus is doesn't work and i though i had them saved on my google account but clearly i didn't. i need to get them back anyway i can! please help.

Koondog, I am so sorry to hear that your device has reset itself! That's so inconvenient to have to unexpectedly try to piece your information together again! To try Backup Assistant again, follow these instructions to clear the app. http://vz.to/1izKXrw
My recommendation would be to clear the cache and clear data both on the Backup Assistant app, and also the app labeled Sync Service if available. Restart your phone, and try the backup again.
Please let us know if this helped to retrieve your contacts!
    Thank you,

  • HTC DROID INCREDIBLE DESKTOP SYNC & CHARGER FOR 2150 mAh BATTERY

While I await my HTC DROID INCREDIBLE I did what I always do when buying any mobile device; I ordered the largest capacity battery so I never have to put up with the low batt message. Talk to people all the time & they are always having to charge their batteries cause they never get the extended battery. Anyway, two 2150 mAh batteries with backs, are in route to my house. Question is, where is a desktop/sync charger for this phone that  will also charge these larger batteries
I will be needing to sync w/my PC. Like the desktop docking station style. Easier to see too.
    Anybody looking into this one???
Oh yeah, Yes, I gave up the iphone. To much inconsistency about the truth of whether Verizon was getting it. Jobs may have said it's coming to providers but as usual, no date.
Yes, I know about LTE. My antique E815 is dying & so was my patients
Hope this Incredible is a good one. I did notice the touch screen was excellent. That impressed me
Found this Sync/charger online. Company says it will accommodate the 2150 mHa battery while docked plus charge the second 2150 mAh battery too. Not sure I believe them.  I asked them if it didn't work can I return it. They told me yes but there would be a restocking fee. I replied, "You are guaranteeing me it will work but if for some reason it does not you are gonna charge me a restocking fee???" They said, "Yes". Don't like the sound of that.
    http://www.thinkhtcincredible.com/htc-droid-incredible-desktop-charger-10078.html

i don't think that will work. the micro usb port on the phone is on the lower left side of it.....RIGHT where it appears the dock you posted has side grips for the phone. this looks more like a universal type of dock that would work.....if htc hadn't put the port on THE SIDE of the phone (don't get me started on this....i just dont get why they didn't put the port on the bottom???). i suspect that there is no real dock for the inc because the port is on the side and our homescreen doesn't go to landscape mode (don't get me started on that either). there are some decent universal stands that i've seen....but nothing that the phone will just plug into.

  • IPhone 5S: does anybody has this problem. During a successful voice call all of a sudden people can't hear me while I can hear them

iPhone 5S: does anybody has this problem. During a successful voice call all of a sudden people can't hear me while I can hear them. Signal is strong and call quality (me hearing the other) is still very good but it looks as if I’m going on mute while I’m not muting my iPhone. When dropping the call and re-dialing it works fine again. It’s a brand new iPhone 5S but it now happened already 4 or 5 times in 2 days.
It feels like a hardware/iOS problem and not a network issue. It happend with iOS7.03 but I just see 7.0.4 is available so will install that one now.
    Thanks in advance for feedback
    Best regards,
    Marco

    Hello Jeff,
Thank you for providing so much detail about the issue you are experiencing with the audio on your iPhone.  I would be concerned too if the audio on my iPhone was not working unless using speaker phone.  I found an article with some steps to take when you are experiencing issues like this:
iPhone: Can't hear through the receiver or speaker

If you are using Apple's Mail app 6.5 is the latest version irrespective of what a previous poster says. It does sound though that you are using a gmail account online via a web browser. Please confirm and fill in missing information.
