Call for Adobe to flush it's lame tech support:

I think I speak for many people when I say that Adobe's outsourced "tech" "support" is niether tech nor support. Come on Adobe, step up to the plate and give your customers a little more respect by offering them the kind of support that would be expected with a professional software package.
I have wasted so much time, I really feel cheated and outraged.  I paid $800+ for an upgrade from CS2 to CS4 and the one feature I use the most : Merge to HDR will not align large images using WinXP-64, yet it workes fine in CS2.  Sound like an easy thing to fix? Well here is 5 months of BS from Adobe tech support, it would be comical if it wasnt so pathetic:
Have a similar story? add it here....
I was already walked through replacing that file over the phone, that is one of the many "solutions" that did not work.  Check the link you just sent me, it goes to PAGE UNAVAILABLE. I did an Adobe search for the file you were having me replace my current one with....PHSPCS4_Cont_LS1 and it IS FOR THE WRONG OPERATING SYSTEM!!!!!!!!!!  Its for a Mac, I stated over and over the problem is a conflict with my WinXP-64 and you tell me to replace the automate file with a Mac file?
YOU PEOPLE ARE ALL IDIOTS!
YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING BUT WASTE MY TIME.
SHAME ON ADOBE FOR OUTSOURCING!  YOU THINK YOU ARE SAVING A BUCK BY OUTSOURCING BUT LET ME TELL YOU -  YOU ARE ONLY LOOSING AND PISSING OFF YOUR CUSTOMERS.
Greedy Adobe Executives: you suck worse than your lame *** "tech" support!

I still have the same problem. The "align" option in HDR will not work with large files when using WinXP-64.
The "align" processing time grows exponentially as the pixel sizes get larger in the images. I did extensive testing and plotted the
results.  My camera shoots 5616x3744, when using 5 or more of the these to create an HDR, (the minimum I would normally use)  the "
align" time is an unworkable 25+minutes.
The whole reason I am calling this an usresolved problem is that when I use the exact same photos in MergeHDR in CS2 it would proces
s in about 1 min. If I use the same files in CS4 without the "align" function, it processes in less than 10 seconds.
So clearly the problem is in the code of the "align" function in "Merge to HDR".  Somehow that code conflicts in WinXP-64.
I dont need to hear any other suggestions  of how to fix this on my end (there have been a dozens so far - they have all been wrong)
I'm just going to ask the same question again: are you going to have a programmer find the problem in the code and re-write a fix f
or WinXP-64 so it can handle larger images? I believe during one of our phone conversations I was told "we will look into this and g
et back to you" That was 3 or 4 months ago!
If you are not going to bother, please, have the dignity to just say so!

Dear Pete,
As per our telephonic conversation i had attached the file with the Case
now you need to download the file from the support portal."
makes no sense whatsoever! The pdf file I was requesting is actually on the installation DVD under "goodies" I followed the instruc
tions to install the "PhotomergeUI" which was supposed to fix the problem with "Merge to HDR" as per our last phone conversation.
It did not change anything.

I just recieved your call and was told you would send me the missing "Optional Plug-Ins ReadMe.pdf" file
Instead i was just sent a pdf which is nothing more than a copy of this page stating all of my past requsests?!?
Your previous emails say to follow the installation instructions carefully, yet they are not included in the download, and were not
sent in the last email. Dont send me a link to start this process over, obviously the pdf file is not included. Just email me the "O
ptional Plug-Ins ReadMe.pdf" file - dont zip it, just email the file!

That's nothing!
An engineer and I contacted Adobe technical support by phone to ensure the PC I was having custom built was configured to its optimum. They advised XP64 as the best operating environment. After that discussion we had to completely revise procurement, etc to get the bits and compatible XP64 compatible software, putting the build project back a few weeks as well, Imagine how I laughed when I found out on one of these forums that XP64 is the worst choice and totally unsupported by CS4!
I have written to Shantanu Narayen, Adobe CEO and didn't even get an acknowledgement I raised this last week on the Adobe stand at BVE and was told they'd get someone to contact me asap but guess what, niet...! To be fair there has been one Adobe executive that recognises the problem and the damage poor customer support is causing the company; he has been as helpful as he can. Unfortunately, it seems the overall Adobe culture at the top is "get the money and run". If your problem goes beyond what's already on their web pages, tough luck!

  • CD/DVD will not boot up for P855-S5200 Toshiba Satellite laptop - Rude Tech Support

Hello. Has anyone else tried changing the boot device order on this computer, only to find that their laptop boots right up to Win 7? I pressed F12 just like it states in the manual (and then pressed F2 to enter setup). I changed the boot order so that the CD/DVD boots first and even went as far as to have the HDD boot last. I saved changes and rebooted. To no avail, it still boots right up to Win 7. So I called Toshiba tech support for assistance. The tech support(less) rep was real quizzical wanting to know why I wanted to boot from my CD/DVD. There are different programs that I have on CD that boot directly before the OS (for example, I like change things up a bit and run Linux once in a while). For some reason this guy didn't like that I wanted to  boot off my CD/DVD from my laptop. Frankly, he didn't buy the computer and it doesn't matter what  or why I want to boot from a CD/DVD. It's a brand new computer that does not function properly. I called Toshiba Tech support to fix a flaw in the computer that was sold to me. Anyway,  I was trying to explain but he kept cutting me off and was very rude. He told me that since I have followed procedure in the manual correctly, that I'd have to go to Toshiba's Advanced Technical Support for a fee. REALLY?! One of the simplest procedures that I have performed on every box I have ever owned, and this guy didn't have a clue to make it happen on a new machine. Instead offering any more explanation than Advanced Technical Support, that rep just hung up on me. Evidently his tech support training consisted of trying to squeeze more money out of the consumer after the purchase. Swing and a miss Toshiba.  So, if anyone has had similar issue with not being able to boot directly off CD/DVD (especially if there's a work around) I'd really appreciate it. If not I'll probably go to Best Buy and they can keep this Toshiba. Thanks.

C.B., You assumed correctly as I did use F5/F6 to move the devices up/down until my CD/DVD was at the top. I tried going in and using HWSetup. As soon as I ran HWSetup - it just confirmed that my earlier selection was already present (CD/DVD in first position).  I also tried pressing C as you suggested but that did not work either.
I appreciate your input. I have one more shot at Best Buy to see if the Geeks can solve this dilemma (which I doubt). I may just throw up a video on YouTube to show the BIOS failure of this system.
It's too bad, I used to love Toshiba until this incident. I have a Toshiba laptop from 2004 that is still kicking (and it does boot from CD/DVD). I have even spilled a 1 gallon jug of water all over it - and it came back to life after it dried. I don't know if all P855-S5200s are like this or if I just got a POS. That coupled with the fact that I had deal with that less than knowledgeable and extremely rude tech support rep. Because of the those factors, I will take my computing dollars elsewhere.
    Hey Toshiba....are you paying attention??

  • Lightweight laptop for Adobe Creative Suite 5 advice

    Hello,
I originally posted this in the 'Downloading, Installing, Setting Up > Discussions' forum and have been sent here to see if anyone may be able to help; I need some advice and guidence on buying a new laptop that will run Creative Suite 5 Design Premium. I have a desktop which I use for the majority of my design work, but I need something portable for tweaking and presenting whilst on the move.
The key thing is I need it to be lightweight as I have joint problems so preferably under 1.9kg (I know that usually the smaller then the less powerful) and with a good as possible battery life. I mainly use Photoshop, Illustrator and some InDesign, working to real size (usually under and up to A3, sometimes larger)
I've found two possibilities; can anyone guide me if either of these will run comfortably for what I need?

If the HP one will run the suite ok then I'll go for that one, as a little kinder on the budget. I've compared them myself but I'm not sure if the HP would be sufficient or if the sony would be wasting money when somethign cheaper will do the job? Though at the moment Sony are doing a deal for 8gb RAM for the inclusive price of 4gb, but only until Monday...
Any advice would be really appreciated, thank you!

Go to HP's web site and you can customize the laptop to your needs and keep an eye on the cost as you add/subtract features. The thing to keep in mind is, forget about tech support, plan on paying someone local to fix it, or fix it yourself or buy new. As Tech support is no good in my eyes.
For me the price out weights the tech support other wise I would pick someone else.
If you need good tech support, then well, not much out there, maybe Dell, but I have seen laptops that break under normal or almost normal wear and tear. Their laptops must be sent in, but I guess tech support is OK. Never owned a Dell laptop, just seen friends with them.
I have heard rumors of bad tech support from Sony, but thats just rumors, so I can't say how good or bad they really are.
As for a lighter laptop, you could go with a solid state hard drive, they don't hold as much, but they are faster and much lighter than their counter parts.
Get as much ram as you can afford, you will be glad you did, when the time comes. I have already ran out of ram editing a video with 16 GB of ram, so you never have enough.
Anyway, good luck on your purchase, I am sure, you will enjoy it, which ever decision you make.

  • Revising the Adobe CMM - call for feedback

The first Adobe CMM was released a little more than a year ago. Happy birthday!
It's been downloaded more than 50,000 times. (But does anyone actually use it?)
Two companies - CGS Software and Color Solutions - have licensed the Adobe CMM for their products.
The Adobe CMM output - within the limitations of the CMM framework and APIs - should match the color-managed conversions in Adobe applications.
For applications that use the OS CMS (ColorSync, ICM, or WCS), installing the Adobe CMM may provide some benefits. The Adobe CMM extends the existing OS-level CMS with an alternate color conversion engine with which a color expert can build cross-vendor, cross-platform, workflows with consistent color conversions.
It's time to figure out what conversion features to include in the next revision.
A few bugs will be fixed.
We're considering providing supplemental APIs to control BPC, but this would be useless to all but those who actually write code to call the Adobe CMM directly. Do you?
We'd like to know how (and why) you use the CMM, about bugs in the CMM, or your CMM feature requests.
    Thanks,
    Lars

    Hello, Ken
We've encountered following problems with Adobe CMM:
1.) Adobe CMM reverses channel order for bitmap formats like BM_xRGBQUADS, BM_CMYKQUADS and probably others. Here you have MS specification: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms536563(VS.85).aspx
2.) Adobe CMM doesn't accept 'spac' class ICC profiles. For example we have Lab->Lab identity profile, which we use to assemble ICC transformation like Lab->CMYK, CMYK->Lab. Microsoft CMM handles them very well.
3.) There is serious problem with BM_GRAY bitmap format. At one place MS claims that BM_GRAY is 32 bits per pixel and only the 8 bit gray-scale value is used. In table of bitmap formats MS claims that BM_GRAY is 8 bit per pixel format. Both interpretations can be found in MS spec: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms536563(VS.85).aspx Adobe CMM uses 32 bits, MS CMM use 8 bits per pixel.

  • Please tell me how to call javascript(.js) in my vb exe for adobe illustrator cs.

Could you please please give some sample codings "how to call javascript in my vb exe for adobe illustrator cs". I called through doscript in my vb program, but some time it throws an error. If i run the script directly in illustrator it does not throws error. So Please advice me how to solve this problem.
    Thanks in advance,

I'm not sure if this helps but it's from the CS4 scripting examples:
    Set appRef = CreateObject("Illustrator.Application")
    Set fileSystemObject = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
' Creating a folder browser in VBScript can be a problem (relying on either Windows API calls
' or use of ActiveX controls which may not be present on a given system). Instead, use
' Illustrator's built-in JavaScript to display a file browser. DoJavaScript can return a value,
' in this example it's the platform specific full path to the chosen template file.
    doJavaScript = "var templateFile = File.openDialog(""Select CalendarTemplate.ai file:""); if (templateFile) filePath = templateFile.fsName;"
    myFilePath = appRef.DoJavaScript(doJavaScript)

  • Adobe Flash Player calling for orginal install path

My work recently pushed out a login script through the AD

    9. The problem we are having in our domain is that Adobe Flash
Player is calling for the original location of the install of Adobe

    exist anymore.
I have used the Flash uninstaller from Adobe but still having

  • I just downloaded an app called "Logos for Adobe Illustrator thinking I would be able to design a logo?  I can't even figure out hot to start a new project!  Did I buy the wrong app?

Did I just waste $30 buying something called "Logos for Adobe Illustrator?"  Do I need something else, some other program, to make it work?

    Jill,
Presumably, you can create a new document, then File>Place one the templates, then edit it or whatever.
But maybe you should click the Logos for Adobe Illustrator® Support link here:
Mac App Store - Logos for Adobe Illustrator®
Whether it is a waste depends on the quality of the templates and the extent to which you wish to create your own one and only artwork.

Download and installation help for Adobe links
Download and installation help for Prodesigntools links are listed on most linked pages.  They are critical; especially steps 1, 2 and 3.  If you click a link that does not have those steps listed, open a second window using the Lightroom 3 link to see those 'Important Instructions'.

  • Why do we have to spend $39 for a phone call if Adobe has made an error with your account ?

Have new computer with win8, cannot transfer with seral numbers, in my account there is no history of purchases of elements9  and premier elements 9. I refuse to spend money for a phone call for the error on my statement that leaves out the purchase order number not allowing me to download with a missing link.

Perhaps you will be kind enough to state your problem here so that volunteers can help you out.  We can't help you with lost serial numbers or activations on multiple machines; otherwise most problems can be addressed and if there is no solution we'll say so.
