Call From India?

Today I received a call on my BT phone, the Indian woman said she was from a repair computer company and would I give my email/computer and personal details to her. When I asked where she got my phone number from, she put the phone down.
I contacted BT, they said they could not check internetional calls or where they were from and that it was a regular scam, is this true?

Kelly613 even the Caller preference service (The Telephone Preference Service) can do nothing about International Calls.
The TPS is very limited in what calls it is able to/can block. If you want to control the amount of nuisance calls you are recieving then some form of blocker is the best way to go. ie; included with a phone or a standalone unit.
It's either that or put up with it. I certainly know what I would do.

When I got my new phone I was asked if I wanted to stop unsolicited calls and I said yes so why do I daily get calls from India asking me if I am numerous different people and trying to get me to answer surveys.
Sometimes they just hang up.

Hi Howard, I don't believe that BT can block International calls coming in to you, and if they could/would there would certainly be a charge for it.
The only thing that does stop international/ withheld/ and number unavailable is a unit called Truecall.

I'm using Iphone 3GS with updated ios 6 . if i dial a no of tollfree from india 18002094276 it is working first time by connecting to authourised one . but if i redial that number again it is converting into +1(800)209-4276 and is connecting to us telephone numbers .its creating some mess for me . could you please help on this ..

I think the issue is with new dial assist feature in IOS6. Disable dial assist and you would be fine.

How to display incoming caller numbers from india

I live in US. When some one calls from india, No caller ID is displayed on iphone. How to see the number. I already verified that the callers did not blocked their numbers from being visible.

I am using att. The number gets displayed on other att phones but not on iphone. This makes me believe that it should be problem with iphone.!

I received a call saying a Trojan worm is affecting my Mac. The call was from India. Is this a scam? Or can I find a way of checking my computer myself? On 4-12-14, I paid to have my firewall fixed which had let in some maleware. The firewall is on now.

Today, 4-26-14 I received a call from India claiming my Mac was infected with a malware: a trojan worm and they were from Microsoft Support group. I did not believe them and ended the call. On 4-12-14 I paid a 3rd party vendor to fix my system connection for my wireless HP printer. The 3rd party found that I had not set up my Firewall correctly and had let in 31 malwares. It has been fixed, the Firewall is in place and all seems fine both on the Mac and with printer operations.
The question is, can I check to see that all is fine on my Mac easily so I can do my own assessment versus listening to a potential scam to sell me unnecessary computer software fixes?

It's a scam, ignore it. You don't have to worry about malware however your computer uses a pretty old version of OS X, if you can update the computer to run Mavericks 10.9.x I would strongly recommend that. This way your computer will remain even more safe as it will then be using a version of OS X that Apple continues to update and provide security updates for. The minimum system specifications for Mavericks are:

I am using Iphone 4 and I live in India.
I have few friends in USA and I want to make a call to them.
The problem is that they do not have any smartphone so I can't use any peer to peer system or Apps like Skype, Fringe, Viber etc etc.
I am looking for the names of an Apps which i can use to call from India to USA but In USA my friend don't have smartphone so I can be able to make a call on cellphone in USA without any data plan.

Assuming you have an Internet connection of some sort from your iPhone, you should be able to use any Voice-Over-IP service, such as the ones you mention. Skype, at least, allows calls to standard telephones, but such calls are not free. You will need to consult the services' pricing to know what it will cost.

Hi, Since I am from India I am not able to make any call to Indian mobile and landline numbers. I found the below message in the help section. As of 10 November 2014, if you are in India, calling from Skype to mobiles and landlines within India will unfortunately no longer be available.This change only affects Skype calls to landlines and mobiles; you can still make free Skype-to-Skype calls within India, and you can still call mobiles and landlines in India from outside the country (as well as make calls from India to other countries) You can also use any Skype Credit you currently have to use Skype WiFi or to send SMS messages to your contacts. Next week I will be travelling to US and I might need to make some calls to Indian landline and mobile numbers from the US airport. As per the above message by skype I will be able to make calls to Indian numbers from outside India. My question is, if I am at a place outside India how will Skype know that I am calling from outside India ? Do I need tochange any region settings or any other settings in my mobile or profile. Cold call from BT Technical Help

I have just had a call from India saying they represent BT Broadband Technical Help and that my system was slow because of virus infection and that they could help speed up my machine. I said that I would need proof that they were who they said they were and they said to contact 019086 7190 which was the Technical Dept and would vouch for them.
I am not letting anyone get free access to my machine unless I know who it is. Has anyone else been approached? Is this the scam I have read about?

As mentioned, this is a ploy to extract data from your machine. These scam artists typically request users to download TeamViewer (or use it) or a similar program so that they can remotely access your computer. PC based of course. They then either load a supposed "anti-virus" program which effectively looks at the machine for credit card and all sorts of other personal data, or just do it manually.
The number you've been given (though the one quoted looks to be invalid) is almost certainly their own mate who will do the confirmation, or just a number with an answer message, or anyone! By you trying to confirm the call they will probably just go away and call the next unfortunate person.
As an aside, TeamViewer is actually very handy, I've used it for friends/relatives.

There may be a defect in the phone. As you bought it in the US the only place you can get it looked at is in the US.
When you say you bought it new, unlocked did you buy it directly from an Apple store? If you did not it was hacked to unlock it, which could also be your problem. Apple stores are the only place in the US that sells legitimately unlocked iPhones.

Because it behaves differently depending on whether the phone is locked (in standby) or unlocked (in use) when the call comes in.

Hi, I am new to skype, Call option to Landline and to Mobile subcription. I have made the payment and have got the confirmation from skype. When I am trying to call the India landling number from UAE, it just give the tone of dialing from here, , but no sound of the receiving end ring tone.
