Call icon won't open

I can't make a call from my iphone.  I click on the call icon, it starts to open, then returns to the display.  Any suggestions for correcting this?

Standard troubleshooting steps for the iPhone are first power the iPhone off/on. If that doesn't help, then reset the iPhone. That is accomplished by holding down the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slide to power off screen if you see it. Once the phone has restarted, if that doesn't help, then a restore with iTunes is in order. First try from a backup and if that doesn't help then restore as a new phone. If none of that helps, then you schedule an appointment with the Genius Bar at the Apple store nearest you.

  • Hard Drive icon won't open and menu bar flashes off and on

All of a sudden, in the middle of the day, my eMac went haywire. I can launch apps and docs are one the desktop. But I cannot open the Hard Drive icon. If I double-click on it (or used Command-O from keyboard), the icon won't open. And when I attempt to open it, the Finder Menu Bar begins flashing off and on (vanishing, reappearing, vanishing) across the top of the screen. I haver rebooted, run disk utility to repair permissions, even booted from TechTools to run its diagnostics. But still no access to the Hard Drive icon. I logged out and logged in as a TEST user, and same thing happens even when logged in that way. Literally, this happened in an instant. One minute the eMac was fine, then this started. Anyone else seen this? -- david

If the problem exists in both your regular account and your Test account odds are that it is at the system level. You can try a Safe boot (hold down the shift key at startup) to see if there is a third party startup item or one of the optional Apple functions that is causing the problem. You could also boot from the installer disk and use the Disk Utility->Repair Disk function. If you have a utility such as Tiger Cache Cleaner which will do a deep cache clean you can also try that.

  • Help! Icons won't open

I have a problem recurring on and off where when I turn my computer on, none of the icons open. I have to manually shut it down with the button, Then, when I start up again there is often just a black screen, or the same thing happens where the icons won't open, or it starts a disc scan. So far, if I  walk away and come back to it much later in the day, it will work again. Am wasting so much time, and I am am afraid one of these days it just won't be usable at all. I have a toshia satellite, just barely a year old, with windows 7 (which I loathe.)( Any suggestions? I have tried the geek squad and gotten nowhere.

Go to START/MSCONFIG and disable all startup  programs (under the STARTUP tab) except your anti-virus. This is a possible error occuring from a memory leak in a background program, so this might assist. Please post results or any action you've taken in testing/resolving.

  • My mail icon won't open

my mail icon won't open but the bar goes across and i can't open my mail from there either.  Also when it goes to the top of the screen it won't let exit it and i have to do a hard shutdown.  can someone help.

    With Mail quit....
Go to the User's Library folder. This folder is hidden by default. To unhide: Select the Finder in the Dock. Under Go in the Menu bar > hold down the Option key and you’ll see the Library.
      • Go to Containers.  Drag the com.apple.mail folder to the Desktop
      • Go to Mail folder.
Select the V2 > MailData folder.
Delete any files in MailData with envelope in the name. (should be 3)
      • Go to Preferences. If you find any com.apple.mail.plist files, delete these.
Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar
    Log in
Open Mail. Mail will reindex your files.

I run 10.5.1 and I have been getting a blue screen on boot that takes forever before the screen icons pop up...then I can't open them by clicking on them even though I can do so thru the finder in the dock. Any ideas how to fix? I dumped a bunch of stuff my boot drive to free up space...I have aropund 130 out of 160 gig that's available.

Go to your Applications folder where you have installed these applications that will not open. Right-click, or two-finger tap (if enabled) the application icon. Choose open, and the application will launch. This is a one-time deal, as afterwards, that specific application will launch normally.
This is an Apple security mechanism. You can override this in System Preferences > General: Allow apps downloaded from: Anywhere. However, it is not set to Anywhere to protect you, and even I do not leave Anywhere permanently enabled. Only for those apps that I know are not in the App Store, and already know have this open behavior.

Hi there - I have not used My Book Essential for a long time as I always had problems opening it to do a back up - eventually I used to copy and paste pictures to it but I want to do scheduled back ups so plugged it in today, but cannot open the SmartWare to start a back up - the icon is there and in the start menu but when I click "open" nothing happens - very frustrating, can anyone advise please?  should I remove the software and (hopefully) download again?  if the program is there, why won't it open?  thank you!!

  • Icon won't open via double click

For months, have several icons on right side of screen. Until a few hours ago, could open these icons with double click. Now, must first highlight icon, then go to Finder/File/Open to Open. Don't know why these icons "froze". Annoying! Help!

First of all, have you tried restarting? If you've laready done that, navigate to ~(yourHome)/Library/Preferences and trash these two files:
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then log out and back in again. Or restart.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

  • HD icon won't open with the mouse

I installed Tiger yesterday. Then I updated to 10.4.4, added a few new widgets from Apple downloads. Everything is running more slowly than 10.2.8 and my mouse is not able to open the Mac HD icon on the desktop. I cannot open my IDisk icon from the desktop either. I am able to open both of them by going to "GO" and pulling down the menu. The MAC HD appears to have a very faint blue box around it when I try to open it. I have tried other icons on the desktop and I can't open them either. I can click on items in the DOCK and they do work. I do not understand this problem at all! I have also tried to click on the MAC OS X install DVD and it does not open either.

Thank you all for your help. I did go in and tinker with the Mouse in system preferences and in universal access. The Mouse is still erratic, but working much better. I'm going back now and try to really speed it up. That may solve this last little crazy behavior.

  • Icon won't open in dock

I have just installed my new printer via the set-up disk. Everything seems fine except the icon for the on-screen manual in the dock does not open. The icon also came up on my desktop outside of the dock and that opens o.k. I've tried doing a variety of things to get rid of it off my desktop and open in the dock but nothing I've tried works.
It is no big deal as I can open it anyway, but it is an annoyance and I'm curious as to why it happened.

Things in the Dock don't exist independently but are merely pointers to something elsewhere. I'd remove the icon in the Dock, put the icon on the Desktop in an appropriate place, such as in your Documents folder, then drag the icon that you just moved to the Dock.
