icreative,
To me if you are looking at current products (this would exclude the Zen Micro Photo, we haven't really seen it in action much yet) then my call would be the Zen Touch + the FM Wired remote. That puts it at about $299 and gives it features to match or exceed the others.
Jeremy
Maybe in hardware the Touch is better but you have to accept that when it comes to software ipods are a much better solution, plus also in the aviability of accesories ipod also wins by far. I own a Touch 40GB and I have been unable to find a decent cover for it, the FM Wired Remote is nowhere to be found, not being able to access the Touch like a dri've letter and having to install drivers in every PC that you want to use it is really annoying. Although this is relati've to who is hearing the music I do think the touch sounds better than the ipod, but not having some simple audio features like bass, trebel etc. is also something that I regret not having in the touch (the EQ is not that good in my opinion). And althogh I don't realy care about these extra features like the sleep, alarm, calendar, games, some users would apreciate this features. Maybe if you could merge the micro with the touch you could argue about it being better than the ipod. But sadly enough the micro doesn't have the storage capacity the the Touch has which for me is also very important. As SRR said, it alls comes down to what you are looking for a player.Message Edited by lsd_us3r on 04-05-2005 :02 PM

  • Call of Duty Ghosts Deal of the Day 7/17/2014

Is it really true/possible that the video game deal of the day offering Call of Duty Ghosts for PS4 and XBox One really sold out in about an hour this morning or will there be more available?
I get the idea that "you snooze you lose" but I work for a living and being up between 1-2 AM my time is impossible.  It would be really nice if Best Buy would offer a rain check on this one.  I really wanted to get this game and that was a great price point!
Anything that can be done about this one?  I was up at 5 AM and it was already gone.  The only reason I know it was gone quickly is because of posts on another board.

    Hi billycuth,
As an avid gamer, I’m constantly checking Best Buy’s Deal of the Day as there are often some amazing deals. The Call of Duty: Ghosts Deal of the Day promotion you’re referring to was a perfect example of the types of sales I’m keeping an eye out for. Sadly, like you, I also missed this sale due to the demand. I’m very sorry for any frustration this has caused as that’s far from our intent with these promotions.
Per the Deal of the Day FAQ, these deals are generally up for 24 hours, or until they sell out. Once gone, Best Buy does not offer any price-matching or rain check opportunities as the Deal of the Day products are all limited in quantity. Again, I do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Keep an eye on BestBuy.com as it’s definitely possible we’ll run more gaming promotions similar to this one in the future! Thanks for posting and please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • The Best Wii Games?

I won a Wii Black console with all the trimmings. This is problematic only because I had no interest in the Wii before, but once I won it, naturally, I had to hook it up and I'm in love with the system - especially as it plays Netflix with barely any pauses on my TV.
It came with Wii Sports and Wii Sports resort. The kids have already gotten bored of it, as have I. So the question is, what Wii games would you recommend? What should I be looking for in any genre? The only specifications is that it can't be too bloody/gory, and has to be fun to play.
I myself am a fan of RPG's, and the occasional FPS - mainly RPG's.
How do Wii gates rate with the more mature games of the XBox 360?

    Howdy gamers!
That's some great conversation. For a good FPS that has good story I'd recommend Red Steel 2. It's got great shooter elements and swordfighting! I love this game.
The Wii does sport a few FPS titles and a lot of great role playing action.

  • The Best Older Games - Final Fantasy XI

I'm sure all of us can relate to this situation:
So your computer is a bit old. The gerbil inside is starting get a bit slow and long in whiskers, and so you've tallied your bills, your income, and your emergency fund. Then you've created a sixty-page Power Point presentation and presented it your your wife, complete with pie charts and graphs explaining exactly how and why you need a new computer.
It takes a few weeks, but she finally breaks down and agrees. Yes, you may go out and buy a new computer.
You are proud, and u unbeknown to her, you have carefully crafted your plans not to include just a computer, but the hottest, greatest machine in the face of the planet. It is of such superiority that you can classify it but under a single word.
'Sweet.' (with an emphasis on the 'e's)
You get your new machine and set it up. You install all your prerequisites and get ready for an awesome experiance. Except, your wife walks in, and she smiles so sweetly at you and states, 'as long as we have a new machine, you might as well go out and buy a new game, right?'
Naturally, you are suspicious. Yet, when the woman declares free-for-all on the budget, you're not going to argue. After all, you earned it, you should be able to spend it, right? Right? So you go back to the store and spend an hour deciding which game you want, and rush home with the fantastic grin that only gamers are capable of having.
    You're excited.
Your wife, however, is sitting at the computer.
"Why honey," she said, all smiles, "Look, my facebook runs faster. I can now farm my grapes in half the time!"
"Great!" You say, annoyed, "When are you going to be done?"
"Oh," she states, wearing a bigger smile then even you had just a moment ago, "It's so fast! Probably not long. I do have six accounts, through, and I wanted to play some Pogo, as well!"
So you sit, and wait, and sit and wait, and soon it becomes obvious what has happened. Your wife has declared YOUR computer as HERS. You attempt to reason with her, and she throws your earlier conversation back at you. Yeah, yeah, family computer. Yes, yes, equal sharing, we can't afford to buy a machine for just one person. Yes.. but when is it my turn?
Never, apparently. You finally give up and acknowledge the fact that your computer time will be those moments when she's at work, and your not, or she's out shopping, and you managed to weasel out of going.
So, you were all excited about PC playing, so your Playstation 3, your XBox 360 and your Wii just isn't going to cut it today. You set up your old machine, thinking - well, at least you can find a GOOD game. A really good game, that will play on this older, less capable machine.
    And thus.. you read this...
    Final Fantasy XI
Designed by Square Enix, the authors of all the Final Fantasy series, this is the first (but not the last) Final Fantasy that is MMORPG. Which means it's a game played with hundreds of thousands of other players.
Well, it least it was in it's most popular time. Today, you can expect about three thousand people per 'server'.
Final Fantasy XI was at one point #2 behind World of Warcraft, and for good reason. It's a richly engaging online world, who's graphics more then beat World of Warcraft and most other online games without thought - even new, and modern ones. Yet, it requires very little resources to run.
The download is intense, admittedly, but I can attest, having had all sorts of internet connections in the past, that even the slowest 'broadband' speed will suffice. There are even some that still play under dial-up, through, that's pretty rare these days (and not recommended).
The world is rich and engaging, it's really fun, and you can use your PS2 style USB controller with it natively, once enabled in the configuration window. All buttons have function and it really saves you keyboard time, since the game was also authored for the Playstation 2. (It was the first MMORPG console game).
There have been numerous patches released, and everyone in the world is friendly - I would know, I just rejoined!

You'll need to download Lion installer on your SL. Then, do a clean install of Lion on your internal, and migrate your stuff from SL in Setup Asistant.

  • Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare at Best Buy

    Power Changes Everything.
Call of Duty is back with their next, highly anticipated game, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare envisions the powerful battlegrounds of the future, where both technology and tactic have evolved to usher in a new era of combat for the franchise. Delivering a stunning performance, Academy Award winning actor Kevin Spacey stars as Jonathan Irons – one of the most powerful men in the world – shaping this chilling vision of the future of war.
    An Advanced World:
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare takes place in a plausible future in which technological progress and today’s military practices have converged with powerful consequences. In this carefully researched and crafted vision of the future, Private Military Corporations (PMCs) have become the dominant armed forces for countless nations outsourcing their military needs, redrawing borders and rewriting the rules of war. Jonathan Irons, the founder and president of the world’s largest PMC - Atlas Corporation - is at the center of it all.
    An Advanced Soldier:
Powerful exoskeletons evolve every aspect of a soldier’s battle readiness, enabling combatants to deploy with an advanced lethality and eliminating the need for specialization. The introduction of this gameplay mechanic delivers enhanced player movement and verticality through boost jumps and grappling, covert cloaking abilities, and biomechanics that provide unparalleled strength, awareness, endurance, and speed. With the advent of the exoskeleton and newly advanced armor and weaponry, every soldier commands tactical freedom in any terrain unlike ever before, fundamentally changing the way gamers play Call of Duty across all modes.
    An Advanced Arsenal:
Harnessing the power of next-gen platforms, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare brings players into the battlegrounds of the future by boasting a new hi-tech, advanced arsenal and ability set, arming players with all-new equipment, technology, perks, and vehicles like hoverbikes and highly specialized drones. Players can also choose between standard ammunition and an all-new class of directed-energy weaponry that enables totally new gameplay dynamics. And with exoskeletons delivering a massive force multiplier and unprecedented tactical freedom, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare evolves every firefight.

  • FX5600 - what's the best driver for it?

I use atually the driver 45.32, is the best for games like Medal of Honor, Quake 3, Ghost Recon and other games that use direct X 8.1, but in other games like Need for Speed Underground, Call of Duty, Far Cry it is the whorst!!
The new drivers (last driver=> 56.72 NVidia) run this news games that use direct X 9.0b very good but is very weak for run games that use older direct X (like 8.1!!!)....
What driver is good or the best in this case? Recommend for me please

    Sorry, but I respectfully disagree.
I always use the latest  nVidia Drivers from nVidia and use coolbits to overclock. MSI drivers are often a couple versions behind.
I have not noticed any marked visual or performance gains when using ANY manufacturers drivers.
If you stay tuned to the more popular graphics websites and their respective forums, and you see users reporting a specific manufacturer's driver performing brilliantly over the nVidia ones then it might be considered. However, just a few posts positive means nothing. It must be fairly unanimous and across several forums or news/reviews to make it fairly compelling.
The MSI VGA BIOS comes directly from nVidia, the only difference is in the vendors choice of memory to populate the card. That, in turn may require a BIOS modification. It's not like a motherboard, they usually get it right the first time when it comes to VGA BIOS's.
As far as the new DOT technology, remember that you will have an additional application in the background, dynamically monitoring performance and making changes on the fly.
With any program of this nature and the hardware involved, not every system will perform as expected. You may have one system where it works flawlessly, and another system that doesn't perform as expected. These problems can be anything from user configuration errors, to poor cooling, faulty or low quality components, low or dirtty power conditions, you name it.
I prefer a hands on approach and because I'm a bit of a control freak, I don't like giving up those tasks to a program or utility that can often be buggy and troublesome to say the least. I will admit that for the novice it may come as a benefit, however, the power user may find it restrictive in some respects.
With all of these factors and then an additional resource hog in the background, I have not been compelled to keep these programs installed. At least that's my experience a few months ago. Perhaps the drivers have undergone some refinements since then but my overall experience with most VGA vendors in the market, keeps pointing me back to the chipset manufacturer's drivers 99.99% of the time. On rare occasions I have had to use a vendors drivers due to an incompatability issue or update a BIOS to fix a video in, or capture problem, but those instances are rare.
Most power users follow this methodology.
Try both of the latest drivers from both sources, and you be the judge, just remember, someones success doesn't mean you'll share it too.

  • I was led to believe a Xbox game pad can be used on an iMac to play call of duty, yet my mac doesn't recognise it

I was led to believe that an Xbox game pad can be used to play call of duty black ops on the iMac. I cannot seem to get mine to work. Is there an app or something needed for the computer to recognise it ?

I think Call of Duty doesn't support controllers due to the balance implications in multiplayer.

  • The best option for running Windows on a Mac?

Though I'm loving my MacBook Pro, the only thing I would like to improve is the capacity for playing games. And for that I really need Windows.
So, I have a copy of Windows XP, and I have a copy of Parallel. I've installed Parallel and Windows XP, but it's limited and I can't figure out how to make my graphics card (which is 256MB) work with it. It seems to need to use the Parallel Graphics. So, some questions:
    1) Is there a way to play the best Windows games using Parallel?
    2) Is there a better alternative? One of my friends mentioned Bootcamp to me. Would that be better? Is there any program that would allow me to run Windows and use the full power of my system to play the games?

For gaming... your best option is to use BootCamp. Parallels is an excellent program... and it runs Windows well under most conditions... but it is still not great for gaming (even with version 3). BootCamp is free. It allows you to boot directly into Windows making your MacBook Pro a full fledged Windows PC. Games will run just as well as they would on any similarly spec'd PC notebook. The BootCamp utility in OS X will allow you to create a Windows driver CD for all of the hardware. You will get full speed 3D, ect. Also... you can use your BootCamp installation of Windows in Parallels... So, after you install Windows via BootCamp, you can delete your previous "Parallels Only" Windows installation and go through the process of installing a new version of Windows in Parallels... you will be able to point it to the copy of Windows you have set up in BootCamp. This way... when you want to play games... you can boot into Windows and run them at full speed... but for those times you are in OS X and you just want to launch an application that does not need all the 3d power, you can launch that same copy of Windows through Parallels.

  • Call of Duty : Advanced Warfare issues

    Hello guys,
I bought a MSI Gaming Series Laptop on around August 2014; here are its features :
    http://www.hidevolution.com/new-laptops/msi-gx70-destroyer-229-2gb-amd-r9-m290x-17-3.html
(except I got 8GB instead of 12 on the website)
So my problem is ... I have terribly LOW FPS on  Call of Duty : Advanced Warfare (maybe the post has been replied yet on another topic); let me explain it to you quickly :
-So I launch it on Steam and everything seems to go well
-Then; when I get into the Campaign Mode even the cinematic is lagging for real, I get also some problem with the sound synchronization (it launchs while the game is freezing and lagging and then... nothing happens; the game continues to play the cinematic without any sound)
-I also tried Exo Mode and Multiplayer Mode : the same issue is going on.
About the updates I've already done :
    -Windows Update
-AMD driver is up to date
    -DirectX
I also downloaded the game with Steam (I also checked if it is complete; and it is) and it's located in F:// partition maybe it could have change something.
Thanks for your reading, I hope you'll get some advice for me, I already thank you.

Have you checked the game is running by dGPU in CCC? Go to start -> power -> switchable graphics applications settings. Set the game run on high performance.

Any ideas? Anyone else have this same problem? Is the Audigy defecti've? Wouldn't think so, because it sounds amazing in Half Life 2.........oh well........back to the complaining board ;-)

YEah it runs fine in "Miles Fast 2D positional"... there is a problem with EAX and CoD that Creative doesn't seem to have a fix for unless there is something i missed.
