Callable VEE with LabView? / Accessing HP Lan gateways?

Hello,
We have several years worth of HP VEE code written and are now exploring
LabView as a new development tool. HP VEE provides something called
"Callable VEE" which loads a server and allows any program which can
"access C routines" to call HP VEE's userfunctions. Has anyone had
experience implementing such a hybrid? Can examples be found anywhere?
While this is probably not the best solution it would give immediate
access to a lot of proven code. Are there any better solutions to
accessing the HP VEE code base?
Also, there are currently several Lan <--> GPIB gateways installed. Is
there any way LabView can access these lan-drops to access the test
equipment installed there?
Alternatively,
is it possible to set up a computer with LabView as a
test site and have others log on to it over the lan and access all local
resources (serial ports & GPIB devices) remotely (without having to use
Timbuktu) ? Any examples or ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any help,
joel

LV has a node called the Call Library Function Node that can call
functions within a DLL. If the VEE object looks like a DLL, then
it should work. I'm not aware of any examples laying around, but
I do know of organizations that use both; so they might be good
places to start. I know that JPL uses both.

NI sells an Ethernet-GPIB device that I think is similar. The device
comes with drivers that make it look just like any other GPIB device
hooked to the computer. If the LAN/GPIB device has drivers, then it
should be possible to hook it into LV. It is probably access normally
through HP-VISA drivers. You might want to search the Knowledge Base
on the NI web site to see if there are any guiding instructions there
on whether to use the NI-VISA drivers instead.

It is currently possible to write smallish LV client programs that
talk to a LV server program to carry out the I/O. The programming
to do the client server stuff is quite easy using the VI Server.
It is also possible to write the client in most other tools and
communicate to LV over DCOM using the VI Server's ActiveX interface.
The interface publishes a class to the EXE to load VIs and make lots
of other changes, and another class to a VI that allows for Running,
printing, and lots of other changes. Remote interaction without
doing the client/server stuff isn't currently possible, but it was
demonstrated at NIWeek working in web browsers.

  • How interface N5181A MXG signal generator with labview by using LAN Interface????????????

hai every one ...i have a doubt how  to interface N5181A MXG signal Generator with Labview by using LAN Interface???? and
how to find IP Address of N5181A MXG signal Generator????????
when i connect instrument with labview it shows that no instrument connected and what are the requirements for LAN interfacing with that instruments in labview and please help me??????

You can set the IP Address on the instrument.  You may need to be in the same subnet of your controlling computer, so you may need to set your computer's IP Address to something static.
Use VISA.  It makes life easier if you decide to use another bus (like GPIB, USB, serial, etc).  In MAX, create a network session with the static IP address you set the instrument to and use that as the VISA Resource.

  • HP/Agilent Infiniium 54831B scope - how to connect with LabView 6.0 by LAN (TCP/IP)

    Dear,
I'm looking inf. how to connect Agilent Infiniium 54831B scope with LabView 6.0 by LAN (TCP/IP).
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
If the instrument is capable of being controlled from its TCP/IP port, it will be possible to communicate with the instrument from LabVIEW using VISA.
The VISA resource name input will need to be entered manually and is a little different from the normal Serial or GPIB format. The format is as follows:
For SOCKET connections, this is just like the traditional TCP functionality in LabVIEW. An example string that connects with the NI FTP site is:
    "TCPIP::ftp.ni.com::21:OCKET"
For INSTR connection, this requires a device that supports the T&M standard LAN instrument protocol. An example of this (that we have tested with) is the Tektronix 3054 Scope. A string that connects with this scope is: "TCPIP::HostnameOrIP::gpib0,1::INSTR"
    I hope this
    helps,

    Hello!
Let me first understand your question,  Do you want to know wich of 22 DLL´s, that you have, can you use to sent an AT command to retrive the MSISDN on SIM Card?
If you answer is yes, you should be identify all the functions in your dll and found wich of them ara used to sent AT commands like SMS send, SMS retrive, etc.., the same structure of this commands you can use to send another AT Command.
The number should be record on the SIM Card.
    AT+CNUM Subscriber Number
    Description:
This command returns the MSISDNs related to the subscriber (this information can be
stored in the SIM or in the ME). If subscriber has different MSISDN for different services,
each MSISDN is returned in a separate line.
    Test if the command
    is supported
    AT+CNUM=?

  • How can I access CAPI 2.0 methods with LabView ?

I must use CAPI 2.0 (common ISDN interface) method with LabView (graphical interface), the work is to command a ISDN S/T card on PXI Bus, and this card support CAPI 2.0.

This depends upon what type of interface you have to the ISDN. I assume you have either Basic Rate Interface (BRI) or Primary Rate Interface (PRI). Do you have a DLL to control it? If so, you can use the "Call Library Function Node" VI to access this DLL and just make calls to it. If you have an ActiveX Server, you can use the LabVIEW ActiveX Automation VIs to access it.

  • Using HP E2050 HPIb gateway with labview

    Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to use an HP E2050 Ethernet-HPIB
gateway (interface) with Labview. National Instruments has a similar
product (a GPIB-Ethernet interface), but I was wondering if it was
possible to use the HP product since I have a whole bunch of them lying
    around.
    Thanks,

    Prasun,
If the HP Gateway has a VISA interface, i.e. you can interact with it through
VISA calls then you should be able to use it in LabVIEW after installing
HP-VISA. I've never tried it but it might be worth looking into.

  • How to access LPC 2368(NXP) board with Labview arm

I have Lpc 2368(NXP) customize board. I want to access the board usng Labview. I have done this using Keil but not able to do this with Labview. There are lots of tutorial for lpc2138 but I am not able to find out for LPC 2368.

    Hi Kolakanuru,
Thanks for using our discussion forums. How you connect your limit switches depends on what type of motion board you are using. For example, if you look at the connection diagram for a PCI-7344, you can see that Forward Limit switches connect to pins 39, 45, 51, and 57. These will then pin out directly to the UMI. For the connection diagram for your particular motion control board, you can go to www.ni.com/manuals and pull up the necessary information. In regards to reading this in LabVIEW, the first thing you will want to check out is Measurement and Automation Explorer. In the interactive windows for your board, you can check the limit switch status there- Press your limit switch on and off and make sure that it changes the LED in MAX. Once that i
s all set, then you can go into LabVIEW and use the "Read Limit Status" VI which you can find in Functions>>All Functions>>NI Measurements>>Motion>>FlexMotion>>Motion I/O palette. Good luck with your application.

  • Excel with Labview 6?

I'm trying to get Excel '97 to work with Labview 6.02, but I'm always receiving error message: -2147319784: "old format or invalid type library". I modified windows registry as told in LV knowledgebase. After that I could see Excel components in ActiveX pull down menus. I have tried to run demos such as "Open Excel And Make visible.vi" but they always output the error message. I have tried this with both Windows 2000 and NT. Other programmes, for instance MS Access, seem to work fine. What is the catch?

    Anders,
You have run into a special case of the problem that actually has a work around for it. However, you will have to contact LabVIEW technical support to obtain the temporary fix since they need to keep track of all the people with this special case.

    Hi Leo22,
Does this error occur if you use any of the example programs that come shipped with LabVIEW? I would try opening one of the examples that write data to Word and see if those give you an error. Also, have you tried just putting down a New Report.VI and change the report type to Word? If this simple vi (that's all you need to open Word) breaks, I would check to see if there are any instances of Word still open. Check the task manager to see if any word processes are still open. There should not be a problem accessing Word 2003 from LabVIEW 7.0. If neither of these solutions work, please give some more detail about your application and we can research further. Thanks!

Req any examples of how to use a USB midi controller/keyboards with Labview TIA

    Hi,
To access the MIDI ports you will need to call the Windows SDK. To send MIDI commands is relatively easy, here is an example that shows you how to send data to a MIDI controller or keyboard.
As far as input goes, this is the hard part. There are a series of functions that you need to call to open up the device, set some buffers and and possibly a callback to get notifications on the incoming data.
Reading MIDI data will not be an easy task, your best bet will be to implement this in a DLL and call that DLL in LabVIEW, there should be some code available o the web.
= "http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/multimed/htm/_win32_multimedia_... is a link to the Windows multimedia functions that you could use for MIDI input.
Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Juan Carlos
