Caller Display Charge from Jan 2014

With regard to the soon to be chargeable options 1571 and Caller Display I am confused as to whether I would be charged or not.
For 1571 I cancelled this a few years ago as it interferred with my Answerphone, so hopefully there will be no automatic 'opt-in' for this for me, but Caller Display ?.
I currently have a phone (BT Graphite) that displays the number calling me. However all talk seems to be of 'BT Privacy at Home with Caller display' being the chargable option. I am not sure if this is what I have. Reading BT website for this addon simply means the User would also be signed up with TPS, but I did this myself, again many years ago, so is what I use simply to get a number displayed on the Phone, so is this 'BT Privacy at home with Caller Display' or not. There is no identification of this on 'My BT' Account Page. I have also read that Inclusive call packages could include Caller Display, my package is Unlimited Evening & Weekend calls

Thanks for the clarification.
So, my understanding is as follows:-
I am currently on 'Broadband Option 1' with 'Unlimited Anytime Plan' at a cost of £16.90 per month + Line Rental
I believe the cost for 'Unlimited Anytime Plan' is £5.15 at present (included in the £16.90).
NB: I am not currently in a contract.  It finished in May this year
Having entered my account no. and telephone number in the Broadband Price Checker for the price after 4/1/2014, it shows the cost rising to £17.98.
However, if I want to continue 'Caller Display' as a free service, then I will need to agree to a NEW 12 month contract with BT.  On taking out a NEW contract, I believe that I will then be subject to the £7.00 monthly charge for 'Unlimited Anytime Plan' as opposed to £5.48.  Is my understanding correct on this point?
If so, will my NEW monthly payment rise to £19.50 (difference between £5.48 and £7.00) + Line Rental?
It really is important that I determine what the actual cost will be.

  • Caller Display Charges

Last year BT introduced a charge for Caller Display. If you took out a new 12 month line contract they would continue to be free. I did this and have not been charged for this service.
I have just received my latest bill and there is a small note opposite line charge stating that I will be charged for Caller Display from mt next bill. Last year when BT announced this charge there was a furore and questions were asked in Parliament.
Will BT be doing the same this year and giving it free if a new contract is taken out?
I also noticed on my bill that I was being charged for BT Sport HD which I have never requested. I recently took out a new contract to continue to get BT Sport SD free on Sky. I know that it had been announced that although BT Sport SD would be free for another year HD would be chargeable. No mention was made of this when I took out the new contract. I have contacted BT and they are removing this charge.
It seems that BT will take every opportunity to put extra charges on your bill and make things as difficult as possible to understand.
    Peter

BT did not start charging for Caller Display until early January 2014 but because I took out the deal for 12 months free caller display on the 11th December 2013 I will be charged for it from 10th December 2014. I wish that I had waited until January 2014 to take up the deal.

  • Caller Display Charging Problem

This is now the 3rd month in a row I have been charged for Caller Display, I have contacted the Indian online live chat twice previously but the problem still persists, can someone here get to the bottom of this and refund me the sums I have been overcharged and sort it out so that I don't get charged next month?

  • Caller display not worked since June 2014

On 26/06/14 I reported a fault (VOL-**********) that the caller display function had stopped working following a thunderstorm in the area. According to the fault status this fault is showing as being corrected and closed on 02/07/14 when in fact the fault still exists. I tested the line using the BT test socket with a new BT2000 phone and this displayed ‘incoming call’ therefore my internal wiring is not part of the problem. I have also dialled the test code *#234# to check if the caller display service is available and confirmed that it is. I then tested the new BT2000 phone on the neighbour’s telephone line and this showed the caller ID for incoming calls, as did my other telephone as well; therefore none of the telephone handsets are at fault. Three times BT have informed me that the fault has been fixed and yet I still have no caller display. Reading through the forums it would appear that other people have encountered similar issues and that the problem is at the exchange, “An Openreach engineer discovered that the RS232 burst transferring the CLI number up the line was too weak and he then went down to the exchange to investigate. He then discovered that the fault lay in the ADSL device which lies between the analogue exchange equipment and the outgoing line”.
I’m surprised to see that BT are taking so long to trace a fault in their system last raised 5/8/2014 (VOL012-**********) and that they haven’t sent an engineer to the property or to the exchange to check the problem.
My patience is wearing thin over this problem with my Caller Display not working as it started in mid June. I’m also becoming less enthusiastic about BT and find it harder to recommend them to others.
My last message from BT, tells me that it should be back to normal on the 8 August. However, it is still not working. Their message that my phone should be back to normal now and if it isn’t report this to BT, is ridiculous. If an engineer had investigated what was causing the fault and found it, then he would have fixed it. However, either an engineer has not investigated the fault or BT is not competent in fixing their own service faults and makes these statements with crossed fingers?

An engineer called yesterday and told me that he had been asked to test the line for a voice fault not a Caller Display fault. However, his testing revealed there is no line fault, CLI signal is strong and he was happy that the new BT2000 phone (bought after the lightning strike) is working properly. (This phone had also been tested on a neighbour’s phone line where it displayed the callers number). He also found that this same BT2000 phone on my line was not displaying the Caller’s number (CLI), but couldn’t offer any reason why.
I conjectured with him that these tests must bring the problem down to a corrupted CLI signal which does not allow the phone to understand the phone number being sent.
When the lightning struck the phone line back in June, it blew the telephone connection in the back of the Sky Box with a flash and bang (telephone cable now removed from the Sky box). It shorted the Openreach Faceplate (now replaced) so that the phones and broadband stopped working and it caused the phone to light up and react as it does when a call comes through.
Now isn’t it possible that the lightning also travelled along the copper wire to the green cabinet just outside the house and damaged something there which is corrupting the CLI signal, but which does not not show up when the voice line is tested? If not, then there must be a problem further back in the infrastructure, possibly in the Exchange, that is causing a corrupted signal to be sent to my phone?
He told me that another team would have to investigate the Caller Display fault as he was instructed to look into a voice issue and as a field engineer he was not able to investigate any problem that might be in the Exchange. I don’t know whether this Exchange Team would be able to investigate a problem in the Cabinet if nothing is found in the Exchange or can that only be done by a field engineer? He told me to contact BT again as he’d done all that he had been instructed to do and they would have to instigate a fault team to further investigate the problem.
When all this is considered we have the basic problem that BT are unable to provide me with a Privacy and Caller Display Service that I have been paying for, because of a fault in their infrastructure. How much longer is it going to take before they correct the problem that’s been going on since June 2014?

  • Caller Display/BT Answer 1571 charges

Unbeknownst to me, Caller Display and BT Answer 1571 have been free since 2005 yet BT have been charging me £3.50/month (slighlty less before price increases) so I have been paying unnessarily for 9 years! I queried this with them and they said £1.75 of it was for BT Answer 1571 which I don't recall ever signing up to and does not appear anywhere on my bill. All that appears on my bill is £3.50 for Caller Display. How was I supposed to know I had 1571 and had been paying for it?!?
It is a really deceitful way of getting money out of their customers because I presumably didn't specifically tell them I would now like it free instead of paying for it.
I signed up to Caller Display about 17 years ago when it was chargeble but would have expected them to drop the charge in 2005 when it became free for everyone else, silly me.
BTW I have now cancelled it and signed up to BT Privacy for 12 months so am now getting it free. This doesn't help me recoup the £100's I lost though!
Hope this post at least helps someone else pick up on it.

They started charging for this service for all customers at the start of this year,

  • Re BT swapping calls charging from my ISP Provide...

My gripe which is ongoing is BT moving my calls charging from Virginmedia to BT on the 5th of July without my consent.
This is after being told by BT that this procedure would not take place (20th June), even though in my Account page of the BT website it stated the charge would occur on the 5th. Regardless of this BT moved my calls to themselves from VM. In the process they have denied me my call/broadband package deal with Virginmedia which  as a result of this  has become more expensive.
Being told (on the phone) when I asked to be emailed, that I would be reinbursed for call charged  doesn't really help matters when the change  is all BT's fault!!!. So I'm incurring  charges calling BT, Virginmedia not to mention trying to sort out this mess.
So frankly BT are not my flavour of the month just now....if ever again!.

  • 'Free' Caller Display Being Charged For

For the last three months I've been charged for Caller Display when it should be free until 04/12/15.
Each time I've used live chat help and have eventually got the first two months refunded but have just been charged again.  I've just got off live chat and have been told (again) I will be refunded and the problem will be sorted but I can't say I have much faith.
How can I get this fixed once and for all?
    Thanks,

  • Re: Recurring charge for Caller Display

    Hi,
Sorry to post here but I can't find the new thread option, I'm new to this forum.
I'm having the same issue with being charged for caller display. I was assured last month it was all sorted out and I'd be refunded back to September, just got this month's bill with a paltry £1.69. I really can't cope with the foreign call centre again, can someone please help?

  • Recurring charge for Caller Display

I renewed my line rental contract for a year to get free caller display but I am still getting charged for it 3 months later.
In February I contacted Live chat and was assured it was all sorted and I wouldn't get charged again.
My March bill was issued yesterday and I have been charged yet again, there was a refund of 6 pence ? supposedly for caller display.

  • Caller ID for incoming calls NOT displaying name from contacts (only displays phone #)

Whenever I receive an incoming call, the caller ID only shows the phone #, even when I have that number matched to a contact.  Since I don't have many phone #'s memorized, I have no clue that it is someone I know.  However, the contact name is displayed in my call log, just not on the initial incoming call display.  How do I get the caller ID to recognize and display the appropriate contact name with the phone #? Any help would be greatly appreciated!  (I have the 8520 blackberry)
    Thanks, Lauren

Thanks so much!  The problem was the security settings.  I switched the content protection for "contacts included" to "no" and now my contact info shows up on the incoming call display!  Thanks again for your help!

  • Is Caller Display free or not free for 12 months?

When BT announced there would be a charge of £1.75 pm for Caller Display, they also stated this service would be free for 12 months if the subscriber renewed their contract for one year. i rang BT and agreed to take up the offer.
I have looked at the past 2 bills and they have the following line entries. Here's the latest bill, word for word:
    1. BT Privacy at Home - Caller Display   28 Apr - 27 May 14
This is the cost of your BT Privacy at Home - Caller Display up to 27 May 2014 at £1.75 a month    £1.75
    2. BT Privacy with Caller Display free for 12 months 28 Apr - 27 May 14   £0.00
I queried the £1.75 charge shown on line 1. via BT online webchat and here's BT's response, again word for word:
"BT Privacy With Caller Display is free but for BT Privacy at Home you will be charged £1.75"
You will notice that in their reply they have omitted 'Caller Display' after 'at Home' although the bill clearly shows this at line 1. above.
Can somebody please tell me should I be paying £1.75 a month? If this is so then will line 2. revert to a further £1.75 after the 12 month's expiry which will mean £3.50 a month in total'.
I just thought as a simpleton that I was getting Caller Display entirely free for 12 months by signing a new contract. Maybe life is not that simple?

john46: You state "to put it very simply the 1.75 is charged on one line and credited back on the next line".
Well it isn't. Had there had been such a credit on the bill I would not have raised a bill query with BT or this forum.
Below is my total bill where you can see I have no credit shown. It all adds up to £34.50 including the £1.75 Caller Display fee.
I cannot get a reply out of BT or even an acknowledgement to my email querying the charge. What do you suggest I do? Send a specific mail giving them 7 days' notice that I will cancel the Direct Debit and send a cheque less the missing credits, if I don't receive a satisfactory answer?
Your reply and those of the 2 other respondents now confirm that there should be a credit line of £1.75.
Whatever happens you have proven BT owes me £1.75 for each month this has occurred. May I therefore use your name and your answer in a further email to BT? It will be interesting to see if that prompts a response.

  • PS CC (since JAN 2014 update) Layer-mask editing causes hangs/crashes

ONLY since JAN 2014 update, PS CC has been hanging/crashing when I paint/edit a layer mask. All may be well at first (or not), but suddenly the display of the mask (or mask overlay on the layer itself, as shown when hitting backslash key) is not shown in full but renders in s-l-o-w-l-y in rectilinear pieces <snapshot below was taken before video card upgraded but is still typical of what I mean>. When I view Windows' Task Manager for PS, I see my CPUs are each working at their upper limits (up to 80+-90+%), varying only by a few points, over a VERY long time... which could be MANY minutes. OR the System has decided PS is Not Responding.
In any case, whenever this happens, it means in all practicality PS CC is not working, so I either kill it or it's crashed.
Now, here's the thing: that VERY file, can immediately be opened in PS CS6 (which I have fortunately kept installed on my computer), and the mask will be as I thought it should be, and I can edit it as I always could, just fine! So it's obviously a PS CC thing, and I do NOT recall this happening prior to the JAN update. It is still a problem after the two subsequent updates.
I have not been able to determine the specific instances when this happens, as it seems to happen whenever I am editing a mask, no matter what size/softness/color brush, what magnification, what view mode, many or few layers, big or small file, etc.
I did upgrade my NVIDIA card (from GeForce GTX 260 [with current driver] to GTX660), just in case it was a factor (maybe kept it from crashing as fast? hard to tell... but it's still an unworkable problem). You can see from my Sys Info shown here from the PS CC Help menu  that it should be more than sufficient for any PS CC task, and it's running the latest driver:

I work on digital-photography files, and use a layer mask in almost every file, so this relatively-recent bug is a big PITA, having to switch back and forth between CS6 and CC!
Until there's a fix... is there a way to roll-back my PS CC version to BEFORE the JAN 15, 2014 update?

I am not qualified to comment on technical issues; I'm just a user whose son in IT is my 'technical support department.' (But he's not much of a PS user.)
I'm pretty sure, however, that all my Prefs were set to the same things BEFORE the Jan 16, 2014 PS CC update as after (unless the update itself changed something I was unaware of... the settings APPEARED to be the same but I can't easily locate my notes of what my Prefs were from long ago).
And they were the same as the PS CS6 I have had installed on this same system for a very long time, with older video card with older driver, with newer driver; newer video card with newest driver, etc. Yet after that CC update, CC has not (until this workaround) worked re 'the masking bug' for me, yet CS6 has always worked just the same.
So I conclude that the only variable (other than the video card upgrade I did in an attempt to solve this and of course those Windows auto-updates) in this scenario IS something to do with PS *CC*, and after Jan 16, 2014.
As for restarting the machine vs. restarting PS, well, PS is the major player of my system, so when I shut that (and LR) down, I might as well 'clean things up' by Restarting. BTW, I am in the habit of closing and reopening PS (CC or CS6) whenever I finish with a file and load another, in order to get back some of that memory which PS never seems to want to let go. (This is not new to the latest versions, I think. My son says it's a 'memory hog'? ;-) ) I track its memory use in Windows' Task Manager and find that seems to let it 'refresh' itself. (See, I told you I'm not a technical person. ;-) ) But I do not think this has anything to do with the bug. Just a quirk of PS. Like when a tool goes all wonky (for example, its little icon becomes just a 'plus' sign even though the tool is still performing correctly, it's telling me, I think, that it would like to be restarted. And that makes it feel all better... I mean, tool icon reappears.)
Anyway... it's up to Adobe to figure out IF and what may be wrong with PS CC -- it still doesn't work for me as I had it configured at first, and I think it should, right? -- and to fix that... PLEASE. SOON.
