Calling a function in a loop

Hello,
I have something like this:
         declare
         cursor c is
           select 2,3,4 from dual;
         begin
         for r in c loop
           dbms_output.put_line( prod_stb(81852225, r, 'STB 1 HORECA'));
         end loop;
         end;I wanna call (and output the results) that function in a loop, for all 2,3,4 values for the 2nd parameter.
How can i do this?
with simple 'r' in the 2nd parameter does not work
Thanks!

So the 2nd parameter should be 2,3 and 4 (in a loop).Well, as far as I understand, that's exactly what you'll get:
SQL> begin
  2    for r in ( select level+1 col from dual connect by level <= 3 )
  3    loop
  4      dbms_output.put_line( r.col);
  5    end loop;
  6  end;
  7  /
2
3
4
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.

  • Can we call a Function Module with in a loop

    Hi,
    Can we call a Function Module within a loop . Does it reduces the performance.
    Can you please guide regarding this.
    With Best Regards
    Mamatha.

    hi Mamatha,
      You can call .. but it is better to avoid calling it within a loop...
    Loop at it_tab.
       call function 'CONVERSION_EXIT_ALPHA_INPUT'
        exporting
          input  = it_tab-vbeln.
        importing
          output = it_tab-vbeln.
    endloop.

  • Call library function node in a loop

    Hello All,
    I am currently using a call library function node in a while loop which calls a third party dll to process and recieve some data.
    My question is, if I am using this function in a while loop, what exactly happens?
    Does the dll get called in each loop iteration, or does it keep the called dll loaded in memory and just pass the values to it to process data?
    Also, if the answer to the above question is that it will make calls to the DLL in each iteration, how can we keep it loaded in memory always? I mean, if the DLL is a .NET application DLL, I believe the main .NET application which uses this DLL won't do multiple calls to the dll, rather it will keep it loaded in memory.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    the DLL will stay in memory as long as there is a program running which has not closed (unloaded) the DLL.
    Doing repetitive calls to the DLL is irrelevant in this context. LV opens the DLL as soon as needed and will only unload it when there is no VI in memory which has a CLN to that DLL...

  • Performance issue: CALL FUNCTION inside a Loop.

    Hi Friends
    I have a Performance Issue. That is, inside a loop...endloop a CALL FUNCTION has been used which gets data from another database table. Finally it's appended into another internal table. Please see this :
      LOOP AT i_mdkp.
        REFRESH lt_mdtbx.
        CLEAR lt_mdtbx.
        CALL FUNCTION 'READ_MRP_LIST'
          EXPORTING
            idtnum        = i_mdkp-dtnum
            icflag        = 'X'
          tables
            mdtbx         = lt_mdtbx
        APPEND LINES OF lt_mdtbx TO i_mdtb.
      ENDLOOP.
    It happens for each record available in i_mdkp. Suppose, i_mdkp have around 50000 records, it needs to call the function module till that much time.
    So, I want to split it. Can I?
    Please give me your valueable suggestions.
    Regards
    Senthil

    If internal table i_mdkp has 50,000 records it does not mean that you need to run 50,000 iterations. You just need dtnum from internal table i_mdkp so you number of iterations should be eqaul to the unique number of dtnum in the internal table. Sort the internal table by dtnum and delete adjacent duplicates from the internal table comparing dtnum before looping. Look at the code below.
    DATA i_mdkp_tmp LIKE TABLE OF i_mdkp.
    IF NOT i_mdkp[] IS INITIAL.
      i_mdkp_tmp[] = i_mdkp[].
      SORT i_mdkp BY dtnum.
      DELETE ADJACENT DUPLICATES FROM i_mdkp COMPARING dtnum.
      REFRESH i_mdtb.
      LOOP AT i_mdkp.
        CALL FUNCTION 'READ_MRP_LIST'
          EXPORTING
            idtnum = i_mdkp-dtnum
            icflag = 'X'
          TABLES
            mdtbx = lt_mdtbx.
        APPEND LINES OF lt_mdtbx TO i_mdtb.
        REFRESH lt_mdtbx.
      ENDLOOP.
      i_mdkp[] = i_mdkp_tmp[]
    ENDIF.

  • Upload data from excel with vba by calling a function module

    Hello all,
    i have a problem with the function module "ALSM_EXCEL_TO_INTERNAL_TABLE". I will call this function module with vba to load data from excel to sap with a Buttonclick. I have copied this function module and set it remotable. But i can´t call it from excel.
    Can you give me some tips how can i
    upload data from excel with vba by click a button.
    The problem seems the function: call method cl_gui_frontend_services=>clipboard_import in the function module, because when i comment this function call the vba-call is true but no results.
    How can I call the function module correct with vba?
    Thanks a lot for your tips!!!!

  • Tuning a procedure and using dbms_job.submit proc that call's functions

    Hi
    I have Procedure that have 3 curosrs which are nested one below with in each other
    and it looks as below
    it's structure will look some thing look like this
    declare
    empno_fetch number;
    CURSOR deu_process IS
    SELECT empno
    FROM emp
    WHERE flg_process = 'N'
    AND ROWNUM <= 5000
    ORDER BY empno;
    CURSOR dup_all IS --c1 fetch around 400000 records
    (select empno
    from emp
    where empno>l_empno
    order by empno
    where rownum<=empno_fetch;
    CURSOR rules IS --c2
    SELECT rule_id, rule_score, name_Of_func
    FROM rule;
    begin
    l_count := 1;
    OPEN dedupe_rule_attr;
    LOOP
    BEGIN
    Here one loop is used for fetching 5000 records at time and
    Here deu_process cursor is opened ,assume it fetches one record
    Here another cursor dup_all is used for fetching the records and assume it fetched 400000 then
    Here another cursor is opened name where it fetches 10 rows
    Here logic is if first row then
    call's stored function which has following functionalty
    it compares fields such as address of outer most cursor i.e deu_process with all the address of the other rows i.e 400000 rows and return a number
    if second row then
    call's another stored function which has
    compares other fields such as first name,last name
    if third then other field
    so on ....
    up to 10
    and then finally ends
    so if i comment all the rules loop then it takes only one min to execute .If it validaes all of them if takes 14 minutes to execute .so there is problem in that 10 procedures to execute
    So i found an approach to run all the rules simultaneously using dbms_job .But i face a problem that i can't uderstand how to send the input and out put parameter's to calling procedure.And these parameter's must be passed by variable from called procedure to calling procedure
    Please suggest me what is the syntax of dbms_job with input and output parameters with variable's that must be passed as formal parameter's
    Regarding DBMS_JOB.SUBMIT I am getting following error
    Declare
    x number:=1;
    b number;
    jobnumber number;
    BEGIN
    DBMS_JOB.SUBMIT(JOB => jobnumber,
    WHAT => 'vamsi_proc1('||x||');',
    NEXT_DATE => (sysdate+1/(86400)),
    INTERVAL => null);
    --dbms_output.put_line('value of b is '||b);
    COMMIT;
    END;

    begin
    --a:=1;
    insert into emp_vamsi(select 677,ENAME,SAL,DEPTNO,MANAGER from emp where empno=v);
    commit;
    --a:=2;
    --x:=a;
    end;
    using dbms_job.submit proc that call's functions which returns out and in parameters to calling procedure environment .I can't get this with out using data base table's.
    If you have any method for this Plese suggest
    And also please suggest me weather using job's is a good idea ,If not than suggest me what ever will the other approach.
    Thank's and Regard's

    Hi <br>
    I have looked at all sql trace file ,<br>
    I found that there is no problem in sql statemens all of them are using proper <br>indexes execpt the folllowing statement<br>
    <br>
    SELECT nvl(COUNT(ref_appln_no),0)<br>
    FROM ci_cust_dedupe_mast<br>
    WHERE flg_mnt_status='A'<br>
    <br>
    This statement executes only once for 1*3,77000*10 times <br>
    The function that i had sent previously executes more than 4000000*20 times .<br>
    I think all it takes is only for iterations that are caused<br>
    <br>
    I am also sending sql trace for reference

  • Calling a function from a DLL, exectution in background mode.

    Dear Experts,
    We have created an ABAP report the calls a function from a DLL file. If the report is executed in on-line mode the program calls and executes the function from the DLL, but if the ABAP programa is executed in background mode it doesnt calls the DLL function.
    Do you know a way to solve the problem when executing in background mode?
    Best regards.
    Antonio

    Hi Gabriel,
    Let me explain in details about my DLL function.
    We are importing the business partners from legacy system into the SAP CRM system, so at the moment we created the BP master data via BAPI, I get the name of the BP and this moment I call the function in the DLL file. I export the parameter name and I receive back a simplified string with the name reduced to a code. This code I get back from the dll it is insert in a Z table, so there is no interaction in the screen, all must be executed in background mode, because there are a lot of business partners to be converted in SAP system.
    I am sending my code for your considerations.
    Instancia a DLL
      CREATE OBJECT dll 'MTCODE.CPFONET'.
      IF sy-subrc NE 0.
        RAISE without_dll.
      ENDIF.
    Move para a tabela interna IT_NAME os valores recebidos na TI_NAME
      it_name[] = ti_name[].
    Para cada registro importado
      LOOP AT it_name.
        CLEAR v_string_ret.
        wa_matchcode-zregid     = it_name-zregid.
        wa_matchcode-name1_text = it_name-name1_text.
        v_string = it_name-name1_text.
        CONDENSE  v_string.
        TRANSLATE v_string TO UPPER CASE.
        CALL METHOD  OF dll 'SetNome' EXPORTING #1 = v_string.
        CALL METHOD  OF dll 'ExecMatch'.
        CALL METHOD  OF DLL 'GetMCData' = v_string_ret.
        FREE OBJECT dll.
      Preenche os campos do match-code de acordo com o retorno da DLL
        SPLIT v_string_ret
        AT '|'
        INTO wa_matchcode-zparmcln
             wa_matchcode-zparmcfn
             v_empty
             wa_matchcode-name_first
             wa_matchcode-name_last
             wa_matchcode-namemiddle.
      Adiciona o registro com o match-code correspondente na TE_MATCHCODE
        APPEND wa_matchcode TO te_matchcode.
      ENDLOOP.

    Thanks so much.

    Have you checked the user that is used to connect from J2EE back to ABAP?
    I had a similar problem, went into the Visual Administrator and found the incorrect password (or possibly outdated password) was being used to communicate back to ABAP, and updating that sorted out my problem.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    Andrew

  • SQL query slow with call to function

    I have a SQL query that will return in less than a second or two with a function in-line selected in the "from" clause of the statement. As soon as I select that returned value in the SQL statement, the statement takes from anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes to return. Here is a simplified sample from the statement:
    This statement returns in a second or 2.
    select A.pk_id
    from stu_schedule A, stu_school B, stu_year C, school_year D,
    (select calc_ytd_class_abs2(Z.PK_ID,'U') ytd_unx
    from stu_schedule Z) II
    where B.pk_id = A.fk_stu_school
    and C.pk_id = B.fk_stu_year
    and D.pk_id = C.year
    and D.school_year = '2011';
    if I add this function call in, the statement runs extremely poor.
    select A.pk_id,
    II.ytd_unx
    from stu_schedule A, stu_school B, stu_year C, school_year D,
    (select calc_ytd_class_abs2(Z.PK_ID,'U') ytd_unx
    from stu_schedule Z) II
    where B.pk_id = A.fk_stu_school
    and C.pk_id = B.fk_stu_year
    and D.pk_id = C.year
    and D.school_year = '2011';
    Here is the function that is called:
    create or replace FUNCTION calc_ytd_class_abs2 (p_fk_stu_schedule in varchar2,
    p_legality in varchar2) return number IS
    l_days_absent number := 0;
    CURSOR get_class_abs IS
    select (select nvl(max(D.days_absent),'0')
    from cut_code D
    where D.pk_id = C.fk_cut_code
    and (D.legality = p_legality
    or p_legality = '%')) days_absent
    from stu_schedule_detail B, stu_class_attendance C
    where B.fk_stu_schedule = p_fk_stu_schedule
    and C.fk_stu_schedule_detail = B.pk_id;
    BEGIN
    FOR x in get_class_abs LOOP
    l_days_absent := l_days_absent + x.days_absent;
    END LOOP;
    return (l_days_absent);
    END calc_ytd_class_abs2;

    Query returns anywhere from 6000 to 32000 rows. For each of those rows a parameter is passed in to 4 different functions to get ytd totals. When I call the functions in the in-line view but do not select from them in the main SQL, the report (oh, this is Application Express 4.0 interactive reports, just an FYI) runs fast. The report comes back in a few seconds. But when I select from the in-line view to display those ytd totals, the report runs extremely slow. I know there are the articles about context switching and how mixing SQL with PL/SQL performs poorly. So I tried a pipeline table function where the function for the ytd totals populate the columns of the pipeline table and I select from the pipeline table in the SQL query in the interactive report. That seemed to perform a little worse from what I can tell.
    Thanks for any help you can offer.

  • Calling a function in a form in PL/SQL

    Hi all,
    i'm workin in Forms ( Oracle 10g) i wonna call a function and i got an error
    this is my code:
    declare
         x number;
         b_min_g number;
         b_max_g number;
    begin
         x := check_overlap(:min_g, :max_g, ex2.min_g, ex2.max_g);
    end;
    ex2 is a table
    i got this error:
    error 357 at line 7, col 14
    table, view or sequence reference 'ex2.min_g' not allowed in this context
    thanks in advance

    one more question:
    Are you using loop through ex2 table records, or cursor?
    or ex2 is also block name --> then use :ex2.min_g, :ex2.max_g

  • Can I call a function in another package?

    Dear all,
    Can I call a function in another package?
    Say I have package A, and package B.
    Is it possible for me to call a function in inside package A, within a function inside package B?
    If yes, what's the syntax.
    Thanks in advance!

    The variable in the calling package that will receive the value of the function in the other package needs to be defined based on that type in the other package directly:
    sql>create or replace package pkg_a
      2  is
      3    type testTable is table of varchar2(10) index by binary_integer;
      4
      5    function f_a return testTable;
      6  end;
      7  /
    Package created.
    sql>create or replace package body pkg_a
      2  is
      3    function f_a
      4      return testTable
      5    is
      6      v_table testTable;
      7    begin
      8      v_table(1) := 'One';
      9      v_table(2) := 'Two';
    10      return v_table;
    11    end;
    12  end;
    13  /
    Package body created.
    sql>create or replace package pkg_b
      2  is
      3    procedure p_b;
      4  end;
      5  /
    Package created.
    sql>create or replace package body pkg_b
      2  is
      3    procedure p_b
      4    is
      5      v_table pkg_a.testTable;  -- this variable has to be based on the type in pkg_a
      6    begin
      7      v_table := pkg_a.f_a;
      8      for i in 1..v_table.count loop
      9        dbms_output.put_line( v_table(i) );
    10      end loop;
    11    end;
    12  end;
    13  /
    Package body created.
    sql>exec pkg_b.p_b
    One
    Two
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.

  • Call a function with variable function name

    Hey guys,
    I have a func_table which maintains function names (each one makes reference to a dynamically generated stored function)
    I need to make a procedure that calls the functions in that table one by one using its name retrieved from SELECT func_name FROM func_table;
    Thanks

That dynamic code is 99% of the time wrong. That dynamic code opens securities hole for code injection. That dynamic code often results in severe performance penalties as the coder is clueless about what the Oracle Shared Pool is about. And so on...
    As for a basic procedure template to do this - assuming all functions get the same parameter as input and that all functions returns the same data type:
    create or replace procedure FooBarFunctions( paramVal number ) is
      .. variables and types and cursor definitions..
    begin
      for c in (
        select function_name from my_fubar_functions order by function_order
      ) loop
          plsqlBlock := 'begin :result := '||c.function_name||'( param => :p ); end;';
          execute immediate plsqlBlock using out funcResult, in paramVal;
          .. do something with funcResult ..
      end loop;
      .. more code..
    end;
    {code}
    Looks not like a sensible approach though - and begs for justification as to why this approach is needed. What justification do you have?
