Calling Card Feature on GSM Phones

Does Anyone remember when you were able to buy outside long distance and international calling cards and program them into your Nokia Phone under the Calling card feature? I first learned about this feature when I once used a friends Nokia 6255i CDMA phone. WOW!!! This is a great feature! This allows you to use your own minutes and free minutes from your service provider to make very inexpensive international calls. Now I have Nokia 6131 and it is a very nice phone but does not have this great phone call feature. Is there any way to add this wonderful feature to my Nokia 6131? Can the calling card feature be downloaded and installed on my Nokia 6131? I wish Nokia would put this feature in every phone they make instead of only putting into CDMA phones.

On my iPhone 4, people cant hear me when I make and / or receive normal (GSM) phone calls. But when I make/receive calls using internet-based / native apps like viber or skype, people can hear me just fine. I have tried recording my voice using voice memos - this works. And have already tried different SIM cards but the problem persists.
I have taken my phone to an authorized Apple service center, where they restored my phone to factory settings, but still facing the same issue. They service center directed me to Apple Customer Care Hotline, where I have now spent 3+ hours explaining my issue and yet no one can resolve it. The easy answer if to replace the phone - and since it is out of warranty, I am expected to pay for it.
Additionally, the customer service has been so rude and confrontational that it has completely changed my view of Apple and its customer focus. I am a disappointed and angry customer today - people would be surprised to hear just how rude customer service was including making statements such as "Apple doesnt make infallible products, that's why warranty is needed for our products" and that "every product undergoes a problem at some stage, so do ours!" There goes whatever confidence I had...
My concern is simple - if no one at Apple and / or its CS hotline is able to address my issue comprhensively and keep telling me that they have never encountered a precedent before, then with what right can they expect me to pay for a replacement?! I am NOT here to fund Apple's research into their product faults and manufacturing.
And even though a customer is out of warranty, is it too much to expect an Apple product to work well for at least a 'reasonable' period of time. My phone is less than 18 months old and has been facing this issue for the past 2 months - surely the longevity of Apple products is more than 18 months!
Just a sad sad day for an Apple customer, compounded by unjustifiably rude and aggressive staff. And still no resolution to my problem.

I am having the same issue - with my last 2 iPhone 4's. My first handset each time I was on a call wether it was up to my ear or on loud speaker, the call would automatically mute even though the mute button wouldn't show up as highlighted. Pressing the mute button on and off during the call doesn't fix it either. I rang Apple and asked what some of their trouble shooting solutions were. I got told that it might be a software issue and to install the latest software update. This failed. I then got told to uninstall the software on the phone and do a complete restore. This also failed. After trying the troubleshooting suggestions, I took the phone into my provider and they sent me out a new phone within a week under warranty claiming it was a hardware issue and probably just a "glitch" with that particular phone. This was not the case....
After receiving my second iPhone 4, I was hopeful that it would work. For the first couple of days, making/receiving calls was not an issue. Until after about a week, the same problem started again. In one instance I had to hang up and call back 4 times and the call would still automatically mute after about 5 seconds. Also on the second handset, the main camera located on the back of the phone has red and blue lines running through it and can't take a decent picture. So back to the store I go to get another replacement - Again.
For a phone that is rated highly and as a keen Apple product purchaser, I am a bit disappointed with the experience I have had with the iPhone 4. Let's hope they find a fix sometime soon because this is becoming a bit beyond a joke.....!!

  • Using Verizon SIM Card abroad with non-Verizon GSM phone

I have a Verizon phone, which is not a global phone (iPhone 4, doesn't have a SIM card). I am going on a trip to Europe and want to use Verizon service there, so people can call me on my US Verizon number, but I don't want to upgrade my phone to a global Verizon phone. Would it be possible to order or buy a SIM card from Verizon, activate it such that it becomes associated with my Verizon account and then, when I'm in Europe, stick it to one of non-Verizon unlocked GSM phones? Will I be able to roam this way with my Verizon number? Will my regular Verizon phone still work when I come back?
    Thank you!

Unfortunately, the sat phone is not an option for me. I believe it's very expensive. Also not sure if I can get roaming data this way, specifically $25 per 100MB package.
I want to use iPhone 4S (factory unlocked GSM version, bought from Apple store). The frequencies should not be a problem, since it supports all GSM frequencies.
My main concern - even if Verizon gives me a micro SIM and associates it with my account, will it work in non-Verizon iPhone 4S while in Europe? A representative told me Verizon possibly ties the SIM to a particular phone (normally Verizon world phone). If such a SIM is used in another phone, the registration may fail due to that restriction. The rep was not sure though, that's why posting it here.

  • HT1430 Ipurchased a iphone 4s 8gb in jakarta. it was able to recognise only 2 network providers sim card (mentari & xl).it colud not recognise any other service provider sim cards. How can I use this GSM phone across other countries having different servi

I purchsed an apple iphone 4s(8gb) GSM phone in jakarta from authorised apple store on 22/3/2014.The phone could recognise only 2 network service providers out of many that are available .Despite all efforts (approximately 6 hours) to make the phone recognise other sim cards, nothing could be done. The  reseller finally begged excuse and said that this phone was meant for use only in indonesia with only 2 service provide(xl & mentari).& with no other service providers at all. That sounds weird to me. At the end of the day, the reseller finally cancelled my transaction and i had to return back home sad &  empty  handed.
Apple, do u have  any answer to this issue with your i phone 4s 8gb in Indonesia?

  • HT3939 if I purchased iPhone 5 GSM A1429, then I tried to use CDMA SIM card inside the same phone, does it'll work and provide me signals ???

    Hi All,
Regarding iPhone 5, at the latest model, if I bought an unlocked one from UK Apple Store,  iPhone 5 GSM   A1429, then I tried to use CDMA SIM card inside the same phone, does it'll work and provide me signals or not. ??
    Thanks for your answering.

The answer is complicated. None of the major carriers offer PAYG service in the US, but if you buy a contract-free phone for full price you can get a plan that can be canceled at any time from any of the major carriers (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile). There are smaller resellers that offer PAYG service (StraightTalk, for example), but they are hard to deal with.
The most liberal is the GSM carrier T-Mobile. They have "unbundled" the phone from the service, so if you bring your own phone or pay full price for a phone the monthly cost will be lower.
The other 3 will charge you the same monthly cost whether you pay full price for the phone or get a subsidized phone.
Verizon iPhone 5 series phones are unlocked out of the box for international use (thanks to a condition the FCC imposed on Verizon when they were allowed to buy a substantial chunk of spectrum). They are the only phones sold in the US that will work on LTE bands in the UK and Europe.
Sprint is not a good choice, because they give you a hard time if you want to unlock your phone.
AT&T phones are locked, but they will unlock the phone if you pay full price or pay off your early termination fee. However, they will only work on GSM in the UK, not on LTE (4G).

  • Factory unlocked GSM phone - is there any way to make this work?

Hi, I just bought a random off-brand phone from Amazon, not realizing there was a difference between GSM and CDMA.  I know, I know.  Anyway, I have my Verizon SIM card and the phone is working fine on wifi, but no dice in activating my Verizon account.
The phone is the Posh Mobile Titan HD E500 4G GSM Unlocked and frankly it seems like an outstanding phone.  I am not eligible for an upgrade, broke my Droid DNA a while back, replaced it with a Razr M which turned out to be a ***, and didn't want to pay full price for a phone from the Verizon store.
I'm trying to decipher the info on the interwebs, and some sites are saying that Verizon can unlock SIM cards to work with GSM phones, and some phones are dual GSM / CDMA...
I could return the phone but it's really outstanding and I'd probably just end up canceling Verizon service and taking it to TMobile instead, especially with their buyout offers.
Does anyone know if this particular phone can actually be activated on Verizon?  It has a dual SIM, I don't know if that means anything at all, but thought I'd mention it.
    Thanks in advance!

This is not possible. Verizon Wireless doesn't support unlocked phones unfortunately. However if you'd like to keep it and use it on a smaller network, good luck to ya.
It has nothing to do with Verizon not supporting unlocked phones. A GSM only phone does not have the CMDA radios in them that are necessary to make calls and text. If you want a handheld device that can't call or text you might as well use a tablet.

  • GSM Phone capabilities on Windows 8.1 Pro system

Is it possible to have GSM phone (voice call) capability on a Windows 8.1 Pro system (e.g. a laptop/tablet with a GSM voice-capable mini PCI-E card such as Option's GTM671WFS)? And how would one go about getting it to work (assuming it is possible)? Is there
even any software that would support such functionality?
I'm asking because I work remote, and while I'm fine with a phone + desktop while at home I'd rather have a single work-device to lug around when on-the-road. As I always have both phone + laptop on me if I'm working, I figured I might as well see
if it would be possible to combine the two.
At this stage I'm considering battery life and other possible drawbacks as being irrelevant.
Anyhow, thanks in advance for any help in figuring this out.

    Hello Yolanda,
I think there's been a bit of confusion as to my question. As far as I'm aware of, there's not a single GSM-capable WIndows (7, 8 or 8.1) "Pro" (ie full versions of Windows) tablet or laptop on the market atm (not with voice-call capability - at
least not advertised as such). Obviously, there are phones with Windows Phone 7,8 etc., but that's not what I'm interested in or looking at.
On the other hand, Skype, as far as I'm aware of, is not used to make calls on the GSM network, rather for calls over the internet - which again is not what I'm looking for.
What I'm asking is if it's possible (ie. if the full version of Windows somehow supports) regular GSM-network phonecalls, and if drivers and/or software exists to support this functionality - assuming one were to put in the necessary GSM-voice-call capable/supporting
mini PCI-E card (this being necessary as, afaik, there aren't any systems sold with this kind of card already built in). And, while I've seen such cards for sale, they're usually through wholesalers, (apparently) without drivers (at least not drivers that
I could find), nor have I been able to find software that makes use of such a card.
So, what all this boils down to is: Is it possible to, somehow, use my "full"-Windows laptop/tablet as if it were a regular phone, using the regular phone network, without needing an internet connection. I know - technically - the hardware exists,
but I haven't seen any drivers/software which seems to support it, and as as far as I know it's not built-in functionality in "full"-Windows.
    Anyhow, hope this clarifies it.
    Regards,
    J.B.

  • Call Restrictions feature don't have Restrictions ...

    Hello,
I have a Nokia 2330 classic, the silver and black phone. Honestly, I love my little phone, and I wanted to start with some standard before I dish out $100 + bucks for my first phone back with T-mobile without a contract (no commitments, which I love). Please help me with the Cancel all call restrictions (requests the system to cancel al call restrictions) option located within Call restrictions which is located within Security which is located within Settings. Settings > Security > Call restrictions > Cancel all call restrictions It keeps asking me for a Restriction password which I contacted T-mobile several times and they don't have a clue why my phone is requesting this. T-mobile doesn't even know the password for this feature on my phone, and they tried providing me several codes which they thought my work such as 1234 (the default code) with no success. I'm glad with all the random codes after the default they (T-Mobile) had me enter as the restriction password for canceling all the call restrictions I didn't cause any further problems to my phone such as being locked out but luckily it isn't like a PIN Code or Security Code then I would have. Their last result for me was I had to submit a exchange request for another phone. But at my level of frustration/lack of faith with T-mobile, I refuse to purchase a completely different phone with them at full retail price because I said to them how will I know the next phone I receive won't encounter the same problem. I chose to exchange my phone for the same make and model, and I'm waiting for them to process the request. It would save me a great deal of time and money (they will be charging me the same amount for my current phone for the exchange, but they said they would credit me back the amount of my current phone within 30 days of receipt of the "defective" one). Also, I grown attached and quite fond of my Nokia 2330 within the 1 day I had, so I don't want purchase another phone at full retail price just yet. I hope for their sake and mine that the exchange phone which is the same make and model will let me access this feature without entering a password. Last but not least, T-mobile contacted Nokia and was told that my phone shouldn't be requesting a password to cancel al call restrictions and offered the solution to restore all settings. It didn't help a bit, so if anyone out there encountered a similar issue with their phone then I will love to hear about it and the resolution.
Thanks for your time, your help, and your consideration!
    Very Sincerely,
    K.Jones
Have a wonderful day & Thanksgiving Week!
P.S. They want me to once I receive the exchange take the SIM card out of my current phone and put it into the exchange phone. I informed them (T-mobile) if I can't access this feature on the exchange phone then my next call will be requesting a refund. Additionally, I will be not purchase another phone from T-Mobile, but through a third party that is unlocked. I do want to keep my service since I haven't experienced any problems with it yet. Any suggestions just in case? :-D

    Hi,
I am supporting as Tech Support for a network provider (Mobily, KSA)
I have the issue related with call restrictions, as nokia handset doesn't support for call restrictions
either it may be Call barring, in this call barring you will get options as International call barring(Incoming/Outgoing)
All call barring(incoming/outgoing). So to cancel all the barring services you need to enter PIN2 as service provider provides PIN1 and PIN2. So ask PIN2 and enter in to Barring Calls all the Barring action will be Canceled
You won't get a second chance to create a first good impression.

  • Why doesn't my call waiting feature work AT ALL?

My call waiting feature does not work at all. I receive absolutely no alert when I am on the phone and have a second incoming call. My phone goes straight to voicemail for the person who is attempting to call me while I'm on the phone.

Em83, We know that every call is important so let's look into this together! When did this issue first begin? Any new updates to the phone applications or software? Please confirm the software currently loaded in your phone, as well. We'll . Please share details.

  • In the search feature of the phone, does not work correctly

In the search feature of the phone, when typing a first name or last name, why does the search start with the letter A?  For example, I type ME and the first name that pops up is Cecil.  Cecil is in my contact list but not what I am searching for.

I believe when using the search feature, it searches more fields than just the first and last name. See if Cecil has something in his contact card that contains MA, such as an address, company name, etc. Otherwise, I generally do not find any problems using search.

  • Set up prepaid calling card for international calls?

I have a prepaid calling card that I use for calling international. The way it works is that I have to call a 866 number, followed by entering a 10 digit code, and then proceed to calling the actual number (with international prefix codes). Is there a way to set this up as international call default so that I do not have to modify all my international contact's phone numbers to include this procedure?
    Thanks.

yeah, i've set a number to be blocked using the ios7's call block feature 2 days ago. today, the phone rang and displayed the number which i've blocked ... anyone encountered this problem?

It is normal for the box to start showing the option before it's actually live.
You won't need any service call or change of equipment. it will just start working when it's live.
From that thread some areas of NY have it. Verizon doesn't announce schedules on anything too much so you are highly unlikely to get an answer to "when".
