Calling Form on another Database

Hi
What would be the best method to open a form in a different application, on a different instance (same DB version - 10g2)?
Would it not be logical for the Open_Form to have username, password, and connect string parameters along with the 'session' parameter?
What I do now is:
Web.Show_Document(my_IAS/forms90/f90servlet?form=my_form&userid=something/pwd@connectstring&separateFrame=false&otherparams= etc. etc., '_blank');
It works, but it leaves the ugly grey window opened after exiting form, even with separateFrame=false, that user has to close separately. If I use self instead of blank then it just kills the calling application end exits to desktop.
Is there a more elegant way to call a form, temporary log in with different credentials, then logout after exiting form, and return back to the original form in the original app?

Depending on exactly what version you are using, using WEB.SHOW to call another form may not be the best way of doing it. If you are not using SSO and you are using a newer Forms version, you likely are ok. Regarding the exiting of the form and the applet container that remains (what you call gray screen), this is easy to overcome and could result in a cleaner behavior. Simply create a POST-FORM trigger. In that trigger use WEB.SHOW to send the browser to a page of choice. Be sure to include the "_self" target. Similar can also be done using WebUtil's WebUtil_Session function. This is a good option because it could be used in the event the form crashes. Refer to the Builder help for more info about WebUtil and its functions.
As for connecting to one db or another, well this will mostly depend on what behavior you want. If you are trying to open another form that has no direct relation to the first and they don't need to speak to each other, then WEB.SHOW might be a good approach.

Imported Form and sub-form from another database. Sub-form not creating new records tied to parent form's data.

I have imported all objects from an old access db (.adp file) into a new db (.accdb). All of my data lives in sql server so I have added all the tables and views to the .accdb as linked tables. My forms all connect to data, but I am having issues
with a sub form. The sub form does not allow for creation of children records tied to the parent record the way the old db did/does.
Correct - old format .adp file (notice the empty second record in sub-form with the defaulted date of today's date):
Incorrect - new .accdb file (notice the lack of empty second record in sub-form like above):
If I click the create new record icon in the bottom of the subform, it creates a completely blank record not tied to the parent record (fields blacked out in screen shots above). When using this button all parent record fields are blank.
I have also verified the child table used in the sub-form has a valid Fky relationship to parent table used in the parent form.

Have you checked each forms 'Filter' property (in Design view) to make sure they are blank and that each forms 'Filter On Load' property to make sure it is set to 'No'? Also, you might try inserting the following commands in each forms On
Open event:
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdRemoveAllFilters
DoCmd.ShowAllRecords
If you can open each forms Record Source and they are showing that new records are able to be entered (the new record * is showing at the bottom of the recordset), then check each forms On Load and On Open events to make sure there is no filtering.
In addition, check any macro or VBA commands behind the button that opens the main form to make sure there is no SQL filtering in the DoCmd.OpenForm command.
If one of the forms Record Source does NOT allow new records, then you will need to change that Record Source so the new record * indicator shows.
Out of ideas at this point.

Query about Calling One Form from Another using Personalization

Hi All,
I have created a Custom form using TEMPLATE.fmb and created functions in Apps and assigned to Responsibility etc and it all works OK.
Now, I need to call this Custom form from another seeded(PO form) Via Tools -> Menu.
using Forms personalization I can get the Menu Entry and Actions to execute the Form successfully from the PO Form.
BUT, I need it to automatically query records in my CUSTOM form based on my current PO_HEADER_ID value on my PO Form.
How can I do it ?
Do I need to modify my Block and add some parameters and then pass a value via Personalization ?

This article explains how to open the AR transactions form from another form. When it opens the form it automatically queries for the Invoice number of the calling form. You should be able to use this logic for your requirement.

Calling infobus form from another.

Here is a brief description of the problem.
A simple data form is created using JDeveloper2.0's wizard. It is an Infobus based dataframe,which has a simple gridcontrol fetching data from the dept table. This form is in the pacakge,
package1.
Another form is made with a master detail relationship between dept and employee table, in the package, package2.
Now a button control is added on the first form( which is in package1) and the following code is added to the actionperformed event.

f.show();
Essentially, it calls the form in package2 when the button is pressed. Once this action is performed, the login dialog box of the form in package2 appears. After which it throws the following error and shows a blank form.

JBO-00200: A Generic exception occurred during loading Customizations.

If I add a button in the second form, (ie. the one in pacage2 having a master detail relationship) and call dept form (in package1) from here, it works.
We are stuck with this problem, and unable to proceed with deploying the application. As each form need to be called and invoked from a menu.

You can use a timer in your when-validate-item trigger. In the when-timer-expire trigger you can call the procedure open_form

I found similiar solution on another forum as below.

This works fine for the Purchasing form and allows me to zoom to the Supplier form.
But in my case, I want to zoom from the Supplier Form to my CUSTOM form. I replicated the exact steps as per the link.
However, it does NOT work as expected. It gets up to the ENTER QUERY mode in my CUSTOM form and remains in Enter Query mode. If I manually then Press key F11 to execute the query it brings back all records.
Do I need to do anything special in my CUSTOM form to make it behave in a similiar way to the Supplier Form ?

Problem calling a form from another form in oracle 10g

i have created A basic STUDENT form with all fields and the STUDENT/COURSES master/detail form .
I am trying to place to button on the STUDENT form that when pressed, will call the STUDENT/COURSES form and automatically query the COURSES for the employee being viewed on the STUDENT form.
here is the code i used

Ammad is right, in order to pass a parameter to another Form, the Form you call must have a corresponding parameter. In other words, if you go to the Parameters node of the Object Navigator you need to add a parameter called "STUDENTID" and set the data type and precision of the parameter to match the data you will pass to this parameter.
Once you have this parameter in your called form, you will have to write code in the called form to use the value of the parameter. This code is typically in the When-New-Form-Instance (WNFI) trigger, but that all depends on your requirements. In your example, this seems the appropriate trigger as your intent is to pass the Student ID and query any Courses the Student is enrolled in. Your WNFI trigger needs to check if there is a value in the Student_ID parameter and then set the default where clause of your COURSES datablock and execute a query on the block. For example:

You have the command in VB 6.0 to run any exe files right (I think it is the system command). Next to that command place the following code to run your forms application
ifrun60.EXE <forms.fmx with complete path> userid=<username>/<password>@<connection string>.

Is it possible to calling another stored procedure in another database?

Hello all, I hope you can help me out.
I need to call another stored procedure in another database? Is it possible?
I know you can call another stored procedure in the same package:

EXECUTE IMMEDIATE Var_SQL;
But how do call it if its in another database? I assume, I'd have to open a new connection to it, then call it...

I managed to find my synonym;

How to call a Jclient form from another project?

In my workspace, there are three projects. One is for business components. The other two are Jclient forms applications. Can I open a Jclient form from another Jclient form in another project?
I used to create multi_form accounting application using Oracle Form Builder in which I can call a form from another form.

Just set one project to be dependant on another in the project settings dialog of the former. This should work.

First of all, stop shouting. Writing everything in uppercase is regarded as shouting.
Second, you didn't mention any version number, so please tell us your forms-version.
Depending on your version, you have to set the environment variable FORMS45_PATH, FORMS60_PATH, FORMS90_PATH or FORMS_PATH either in the registry or in your env-file.
